Samantha McCarren, who hails from Germany and is a Masters student at the Percy Fitzpatrick Institute of African Ornithology, was hiking in the Vogelgat Nature Reserve recently in the early morning to collect data for her project on the nectar-feeding Sunbirds of the Cape. She suddenly saw this Klipspringer family on the trail in front of her and says they appeared rather bewildered by the unexpected encounter! “Klipspringer pairs form strong bonds and often spend their whole lives together, living in the same territory and raising one or two young per year.
