Start with your eye makeup, especially when using glittery eyeshadows, so that if any product drops down you can wipe it away without ruining your foundation. MAC Bare Study Paint Pot is a staple. It’s a gorgeous champagne cream eyeshadow with a warm shimmer that works perfectly as a base. Use your fingers or a small, flat eyeshadow brush to apply this over your eyelids from the lash line to your crease. Using two eyeshadow colours is a great way to add a little depth and shape to your eyes. Starting with a brown shade, use a fluffy eyeshadow brush to blend this into the outer corner of your eye. Then take your finger and either a champagne or pink shade, and push this onto the rest of your lid from the inner corner to where the brown starts to create a beautiful gradient where it gets darker on the outer corner. Taking a soft, brown eyeliner pencil, apply this to your upper lash line to smoke it out softly and then finish with lots of mascara or fluffy false lashes!

ow that the Christmas season is here, we’re anticipating a lot of couples to plump for a festive theme. Christmas is a magical time to tie the knot, there’s already so much joy and goodwill that it seems perfect to celebrate your love for each other, too. Here’s our top tips for a fabulous festive tablescape!
Christmas is a very excessive time, full of decorations, sparkle and extravagant gifts, so make the most of this and make sure your wedding tables are full of glitz and glamour. There are few festive themes you could opt for, one is a winter wonderland theme full of snow and fir trees, as if you just stepped out of Narnia. Choose white candles and napkins with pops of green and brown to emulate a winter woodland and scatter pine cones among your décor. Purchase a snow spray to cover your tablecentres and décor in a frosting of white to really capture the winter look. Fir and pine branches are a great way to incorporate plants into a theme at a time of year when many flowers will be out of season. They are very sturdy and can be moulded to create tablecentres in a ring around candles and tealights, or even as wreaths around your venue that you could decorate with bows and berries corresponding to your wedding colours. A pop of silver is a great way to frame your wedding food and makes for that sought-after Insta snap. You can even get gold or silver spray and spray parts of your foliage displays to give them some sparkle. Presents always spring to mind when it comes to Christmas and wedding favours are a great way to incorporate this tradition. Popping an elaborately wrapped parcel brimming with ribbons and bows is a lovely way to gift your guests on your special day, as if it’s one huge Christmas all together! Of course, if wrapping isn’t your forté, you can always use a labelled gift box with their name on to save you time as it doubles-up as a placename. Simple and timeless, these gorgeous hammered silk celebration dresses by British designer Dawn Clarke will make any little girl feel like a princess. Dawn specialises in UK-made luxury and ethical children’s garments for special occasions and is launching her first collection with a small Somerset manufacturer this autumn. Dawn says: “These dresses are one of my favourite designs. They have lots of gathering and layers of petticoats to create a classic shape, and they’re made with the finest silk and feature some beautiful extra details." Dawn’s celebration dresses are principally made from hammered silk, which has an opulent dappled patina, and are available in navy blue and natural white. Silk sashes in a variety of colours can be added, and alternative dress colours are available as bespoke orders. A stand-out embellishment is an embroidered privacy panel behind the zip that proudly declares ‘Made in England’. The dresses are lined with the softest habotai silk and feature pretty piping, netting petticoats trimmed with British cotton lace, and hidden pockets for special trinkets. Suitable for children aged two to six, the dresses can be drycleaned. Dawn designs and creates all outfits in her Hampshire studio, first sketching ideas, and then creating the pattern draft to technical specifications for manufacturing to ensure her signature ideas shine through. She sources as much fabric as possible within the UK, uses British suppliers and only manufactures in the country to help reduce her carbon footprint. Farleigh House (farleighwallop.com) provided the stunning backdrop to showcase Dawn’s new collection. s the leaves start to turn brown and we enjoy cosy nights in, we find it the perfect time to get inspired by all the colours, textures and vibes that the festive season brings. An autumn, winter wedding doesn’t have to be carved pumpkins and baubles hanging around your venue, but rather an opportunity to use darker shades in your bouquets and heavier textures within your table styling. For festive florals, more is often more!
COLOUR The main focal point of an autumnal bouquet is often the colour, with the reds, browns, oranges and yellows reflecting the colours of the season. These richer, deeper colours ooze style and indulgence, making a real statement that the usual posy of white roses cannot. The statement bloom we’re seeing most regularly in festive wedding styling is the dahlia. In a range of colours and styles, you really can choose a dahlia type perfectly suited to your taste! Scatter crimson red dahlias among your bouquet and tables to enrich the style. If you dare, they even go almost black in colour if you really want to make your white dress pop! Contrast these darker shades with peachy, yellow dahlia blooms, these geometric flowers are a big hit with brides.

EXTRA TOUCHES With a big focus on what nature is doing around you for your wedding styling, autumn and winter allow you the chance to integrate more unusual touches into your florals for the day. A common theme is to add fruit into your bouquet, particularly sprigs of berries, to add definition and a new texture to your blooms. These also act as a nod to the festive seasons of Halloween and Christmas as food is in abundance and this is then reflected in your wedding theme. WHERE & WHEN Research, research, research! You will need to trawl through websites, directories, photos and actual venues to find your dream one. If you don’t have a wedding planner to do this for you, you need to keep a detailed sheet of your research so that you can look back on it and compare prices, distances, capacities etc. You may also need to consider family availabilities and therefore be searching for a venue with a precise date in mind, or, if you have given yourself a longer engagement period, you may be able to adapt to venue availabilities. Either way, never hesitate to hold a date at a venue. This means that it gives you a little more time to think about it without feeling pressured.

often get told by my clients “we don’t know where to start, help!” Obviously, it’s my job to guide and reassure them along the way, but there is also a logical process to wedding planning so that you you are guaranteed your dream day. I’ve outlined the top 5 actions to take when starting your wedding planning journey:
SET YOUR BUDGET AND RESPONSIBILITIES I know this sounds obvious, but you would be surprised at how many people go into wedding planning without being truly honest about their own wedding budget. Establish who is paying for your wedding (parents, family, you both) and what the budget truly is. Once your realistic budget is established and set, and all parties involved feel comfortable with it, establish your and your partners’ responsibilities. Who will manage what? Are you able to invest in a wedding planner so that they can take the burden of planning and guide you along the way?
GUEST LIST & BRIDAL PARTY Depending on what your budget is and what venue you have picked, you will probably have some limitations on guest numbers by now. You may have already had a rough number in your mind whilst working through the above points, but now you need to sit down and establish who is invited and who is part of your bridal party. You also need to make that all-important decision – are children invited or not? My tip to clients is to follow your gut, try not to be overly influenced by other people and don’t cave into too many political invitations if you can. MOOD BOARDS & INSPIRATION Creating your mood boards or at least saving images of things you like will be very helpful when you start reaching out to suppliers. It’s a visual tool that we all use and base our quotes off. Whether you have a Pinterest board, Instagram saved posts or create an actual mood board – go for it! CRUCIAL SUPPLIERS Have you been following a photographer or florist for years? Reach out to them quickly! If you want to have them on your big day, suppliers book up quick, so make sure you email the suppliers that you consider crucial fast. Once you have your caterer, florist, photographer, videographer, music and AV booked, you have covered the largest ones, and you can take a breather. “Our reveal to our bridesmaids and mums was so special”
PROPOSAL IN PARIS A birthday surprise became even more momentous for Joseph, when Chris not only planned a day of adventures visiting the Eiffel Tower, Jardins des Tuileries and the Moulin Rouge, but completed it with a proposal! “Chris decided to break with tradition and propose with a Tag Heuer watch, rather than a ring, which has traditional roles attached. Resting on top of the box was a card that said, ‘will you marry me?’ The answer was yes and we cracked open a bottle of Champagne to toast!” Joseph recalls. A WINTER’S TALE After initially setting their sights on summertime nuptials, the couple realised that winter would actually be perfect for their personal style. “We loved muted colours, deep greens, blues, browns and white,” they explain, “and that suited a winter wedding much better than summer, when you’d expect bright florals. We’d looked at 10 venues and thought we’d go for a grand hotel, but in the end, it was Kirtlington Park, which was only five miles from home. It felt quite exclusive and had the real wow factor as you drove up the driveway, and plenty of room to accommodate guests indoors all day.” “We also chose to break up the day and keep our ceremony as an intimate affair, before all the other guests arrived. It really allowed us to feel comfortable with the formal bits and then celebrate with everyone.”

SUIT YOURSELF “Rather than hire a traditional wedding suit, we wanted to invest in something tailored to each of us individually, that was modern, not overly traditional and something we could wear again.” Edit Suits were the couple’s tailor of choice. “We reversed our colours so the suits matched each of our tastes but were still similar and looked like a pair. We had so many comments on how well they fitted and good they looked,” the grooms grin. PICTURE THE SCENE “Being able to plan out the day with our photographer, Poppy, meant there wasn’t a moment she wasn’t ready for what’s next. I also had a mid-morning panic when I couldn’t find my speech, and Poppy instantly went to get it reprinted by our venue. She really went above and beyond and captured every moment perfectly.” HONEYMOON HEAVEN Three weeks in Thailand beckoned for the newlyweds, who enjoyed five-star resorts in Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai. “We had a great time sea kayaking, diving and even visiting an elephant sanctuary.” WH

ENGLISH CHARM After popping the question on the aptly named ‘Love Beach’ in Antigua, Tom and Katie set about planning a wedding much closer to home. “I’d always wanted to get married with a quaint church wedding and an old English house,” smiles Katie. “Hengrave Hall was one of the venues on our list and as you arrived, it has a long straight driveway with the hall at the end. It was the most beautiful grand entrance and I knew it was the one!” THE BIG DAY After three and a half hours of pampering in the bridal suite at Hengrave Hall, bride Katie reveals her nerves started to flutter as she heard guests begin to arrive. “It had started to rain too and we needed to walk to the church,” says Katie. “I was worried about ruining my dress (and the 7ft cape attached!), but my dad walked beside me helping to keep my hair and face covered and the Hengrave staff created a shield of umbrellas to keep every bit of me protected from the elements. My makeup artist came to the church door for any final touches and I was ready for my big entrance,” Katie grins. The bride stunned in a design featuring a beautiful scalloped train and striking cape as a modern twist on the classic veil. “The one person missing from my wedding experience was Hannah, my sister who sadly passed away six years ago. The seamstress was fantastic at incorporating Han at my last fitting, with a tiny

pocket of her ashes sewn under my train so she could walk down the aisle with me and Dad.” Her groom looked dapper in an Alexander McQueen velvet dinner suit. OLIVE AND WHITE Creating a classic look for their celebrations, the couple focused on these natural tones to bring their styling together, choosing white roses and eucalyptus for their florals and an elegantly iced four-tier cake with sugar roses, concealing white chocolate and raspberry, Victoria sponge and lemon tiers. “Anvil Cottage in Newmarket, where I grew up, helped us bring in a subtle nod to my local area with a horseracing theme,” explains Katie. “They made a horseshoe cake stand, a K&T tabletop centrepiece and we hired gorgeous horseshoe table numbers too.” HONEYMOON HEAVEN “We flew to Ozen Life Maadhoo in the Maldives for 10 days and the most amazing experience! We split our time between the beach and water villa. The hotel has an underwater restaurant, outdoor beach cinema at night, a Maldivian ocean swing and great snorkelling!” WH

PLANNING MAKES PERFECT For most couples, the proposal comes as a big surprise for at least one of the party, but these two had other ideas: “I hate surprises,” admits Emily, “and I wanted to pick my own ring. After sending Andy about 500 ideas from Pinterest, we decided to go shopping and I chose a pear drop emerald surrounded by diamonds. Knowing we were going away in two weeks, I was sure Andy would go back to buy it. He was almost rumbled going through airport security but a quick nod and his secret was safe! Andy proposed in Budapest over the Fisherman’s Bastion and I said yes before he’d even finished the question,” Emily laughs. FINDING THE ONE Bucking another trend, the couple had their hearts set on one venue from the very beginning. “We used to live near to Pentney – it was always the one. The gatehouse is so picturesque, I couldn’t imagine ever wanting to get married

anywhere else. Once we met our amazing planner, Hannah, and tried the incredible food, we knew we’d made the best decision,” they gush. AISLE STYLE Despite being a self-confessed planner, finding her dream dress was one element that didn’t progress quite so smoothly, but we’ll let her tell you the story: “I struggled! I knew what I didn’t want – no sequins, no sparkles, no lace, and certainly not a big or strapless dress. But the problem was, I couldn’t work out what I did want instead! Until, that is, I visited Amelia and Alice in Woodbridge and my Sassi Holford dress teamed with a top by Charlie Brear and a silk sash to seamlessly combine the two. The mix of the designers made me a one-of-a-kind dress and it was effortlessly chic. SETTING THE SCENE After Oli’s oh-so romantic bonfire-lit proposal, this happy couple could picture themselves tying the knot at the very some location: Wilderness Reserve. “The venue is so special when you stay there, and it worked so perfectly for a weekend wedding with different areas and properties within the one venue.” FINDING THE ONE “I’d had my eye on Mira dresses for a while and knew that kind of style would be perfect for a wedding at Wilderness Reserve,” smiles Poppy. “I had a particular design in mind, so the amazing team at Browns Bride had it sent over from the US for me to try on. I fell in love immediately and knew it was the one for me. I was so excited for our wedding day to finally show Oli, as I knew he would never have guessed the type of dress I was going for!” WEDDING WEEKEND Poppy and Oli celebrated their nuptials over an event-filled weekend, with the party beginning with Empire of Sound on Saturday and Royal Roaming taking to the stage on Sunday too. “Our band learnt our first dance and sung it live – it was amazing! We picked ‘Fast Lane’ by Rationale as it always reminds me of Oli dancing in the kitchen when he is cooking, completely in his element,” Poppy smiles. “My wedges were an absolute lifesaver – I didn’t sink on the grass and I didn’t even feel my feet until midway through the night dancing.”

“Our catering team from Social Pantry and Leanne and her team from Wild About Flowers were amazing suppliers, as was our amazing photographer. She captured every moment perfectly! Our planners, GSP, were our complete saviours and our wedding wouldn’t have been what it was without them. Getting a videographer was a must too – there is something special about a video and we couldn’t wait to see ours,” gushes the bride, "it's the best way to relive the day!" JET, SET, GO After the wedding, the newlyweds jetted off for a minimoon in the city of Lisbon. “Getting away from it all and switching off after the wedding was amazing, we were both exhausted! Our friends were getting married in Colombia six weeks later, so we extended that trip into a honeymoon for us. We love getting caught up in the thrill of weddings!” WH

A Winter’s Tale IT TAKES TWO What happens when you both decide to propose? We’ll let Toby and Mikey tell you how it went down: “Our proposal was unforgettable – we proposed to each other on the same evening, which was completely unplanned!” they laugh. The Cotswolds set the scene for the perfect moment to pop the question, it seemed they both agreed. DECK THE HALLS “We chose to get married in December. I’d always dreamed of a wintry wedding with festive foliage, a string quartet and a crisp winter’s morning,” explains Toby. “Being an interior designer, the décor was incredibly important to me. We decided on the Painswick almost immediately after visiting – it’s a quintessentially British boutique hotel in a small Cotswold village with award-winning food, beautiful views and the perfect ceremony room

THE BIG DAY “We stayed at the venue the night before our wedding, but of course we didn’t see each other,” the grooms smile. “I got ready with my groomsmaids and they were so calming and supportive. The Champagne was flowing from breakfast to the ceremony, which did help a little with the nerves too!” “It felt amazing for it to be us getting married, although we were equally worried about making sure everyone else had a good time too. I had a teary moment as my mum walked me down the aisle to a string quartet’s rendition of ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’. It was a truly overwhelming moment.” Later on, the quartet played tunes from the couple’s favourite films, including Love Actually, Notting Hill and the Holiday, as well as a few gentle Christmas classics. The Retreat at Elcot Park
As we rode up the winding driveway, our eyes were treated to a delight of a sight as The Retreat at Elcot Park peeked out from behind monkey puzzle trees and manicured lawns, inviting us in for a rejuvenating stay. Part of The Signet Collection of hotels, our drive was to Newbury, West Berkshire and was extremely convenient to locate thanks to the efficient travel links with the motorways. Housed in a Grade II listed 18th-century building, we couldn’t wait to explore the wonders that beckoned us beyond the honeycoloured pillars and dainty flower arch adorning the entranceway.

With a warm welcome from the team and a taste of Whispering Angel Rosé, we were whisked up to our room for the evening: the gorgeous Sutton Suite. Our breathtakingly grand suite was filled with a fluffy super king-sized bed, stylish en-suite and eclectic styling with charming nods to the history of the property. The highlight of the room had to be the copper roll-top bath in the bay window of the bedroom, sipping on some bubbly with glorious views over the Wessex Downs sounds like pretty much the perfect wedding morning to me.
After a peaceful sleep with a belly full of exquisite food and freshly pampered with a hot bubble bath in the room, breakfast was served in The Orangery, a bright space flooded with natural light that struck me as the perfect location for your celebratory wedding dinner. We helped ourselves to fresh, warm pastries and delectable meats and enjoyed fresh eggs on crisp sourdough toast with juicy tomatoes and mushrooms, a delightful send-off to a hotel we had been wholeheartedly charmed by.
Our next port of call was The Signet Spa, so we donned our robes and headed down to the hydrotherapy pools, steam and sauna rooms, and refreshing outdoor infinity pool to unwind. I was so completely relaxed after my head, neck and shoulder massage that it felt as if I floated down to the 1772 brasserie for our evening meal. We dined on fresh gazpacho, chargrilled steak and dark chocolate mousse, an indulgent treat with impeccable service and all washed down with expertly paired wine and cocktails. The whole evening flowed like a magical fairytale, the perfect addition to your romantic stay with your true love.

Located across the road from the main building are 6 luxurious and spacious apartments. Varying from 1 to 3 bedrooms, guests have an entire floor of a town house to themselves. These apartments differentiate themselves from the main building by focusing more on contemporary living. Filled with a selection of books, magazines and tasteful ornaments, these comforts create a homely atmosphere – and there’s nothing better than a hotel that feels like home, especially for longer stays! During my visit, my accommodation was a spacious two bedroom apartment adorned with deluxe soft furnishings and stylish décor. The large glass double doors enabled me to admire the picturesque view over Cadogan Gardens, flourishing with plentiful trees and vibrant green foliage, it was hard to believe I was in London. Elegant touches complete each apartment with lavish toiletries, bathrobes, slippers, complimentary WiFi, TVs in each room and a Nespresso machine, giving you that luxury feel. A special touch was the ‘Welcome breakfast hamper’ brimming with eggs, freshly made bread, delectable pastries and freshly squeezed juice, enabling guests to enjoy breakfast from the comfort of their own apartment at a time of their choosing.
Located next to Cadogan Gardens, guests have the rare combination of peaceful London parks while also being only a short walk from the vibrant city. If you’re after a place to stay for a relaxing, sophisticated hen do, the three bedroom apartment would be the perfect option to complete your glitzy pre-wedding celebrations. When it came to dinner, I made my way to Hans’ Bar and Grill which is located amongst the fabulous independent shops and quaint coffee houses on bustling Pavilion Road, just off Sloane Square. The bar area had an air of sophistication, with exposed brick walls and ambient lighting. Paired with marble tables and olive green seating, the contemporary yet elegant décor is the ideal setting for chic brunches, classy cocktails and dinner dates. After a pre-dinner cocktail I indulged in a lavish three course meal. Picked from the carefully selected menu, I enjoyed the popular choice of cauliflower wings to start, and a succulent steak accompanied with grilled vegetables and peppercorn sauce for my main course. The sweet menu looked so appetising, I couldn’t resist the warm moist brownie with a raspberry garnish to finish. The instagramworthy dishes, paired with superb service and a relaxing atmosphere created the perfect Saturday evening dinner. Whether you’re looking to plan a glamorous hen do, private wedding reception or a 5* romantic city break, the staff will do the utmost to accommodate your needs. Seaside Serenity at Susona Bodrum Tucked away on a private peninsula surrounded by the clear turquoise waters of the Turkish Riviera, Emily Williams checks into Susona Bodrum’s contemporary ocean-inspired oasis. One thing we desire on a Mediterranean honeymoon is the presence of water, whether that be the soothing lap of the waves on the shore, a sleek infinity pool surveying panoramic sea views, or a refreshing drink to slurp on in the midsummer sun. At Susona Bodrum in Torba Bay, Hilton’s first LXR property in Turkey, H2O is forever in abundance. From the blue flag-awarded private beach to the swim-up cocktail bar and boardwalk jetties that step directly into the ocean, every architectural design feature is reminiscent of the element of water. Aquatic inspiration flows into every curved corner of the hotel and it ties into the namesake itself. ‘Susona’ originates from the Turkish name for a mythological mermaid who controls the seas, hence why the hotel’s configuration resembles the shape of a water droplet. With a high-energy centre surrounded by circular rings of villas and the state-of-the-art Spa Soul, I soon felt in tune with its fluid rhythm. Each morning, I’d fuel up with a traditional Turkish breakfast at Ezi, one of the two refined restaurants at the apex of the resort, then spiral down towards the uplifting DJ beats at Frankie’s Beach Club, where afternoons were spent swaying between the irresistible pull of the outdoor pool and the temptation of the Aegean Sea.
As one exclusive property out of just 11 Hilton LXR Hotels & Resorts around the world, the collection focuses on delivering personalised service along with a window into local life through immersive excursions. During my stay, we had the opportunity to venture around the Bodrum peninsula to go wine tasting at the picturesque boutique Karnas Vineyard and visit the enchanting Etrim village, one of the oldest hubs of Turkish carpet weaving. After learning about their organic dyes and intricate techniques, we explored an Alladin’s cave of woven wonders and shared an authentic meal on the veranda, while fresh bread was baked on the hearth beside us. These are the kind of memories that stay with you forever, and thanks to Susona Bodrum, it’s exciting to find a chic honeymoon hotel that extends your experience beyond the resort to connect with the cultural spirit of the destination.
Across the resort, there are 76 guest rooms and standalone villas that cascade towards the ocean to maximise the peninsula's views from every angle. My King Junior Suite had an airy and modern aesthetic, fitted with a well-appointed en suite, plenty of spacious storage, and a supersize bed backed by a large mirror that reflected coastal views through the floor-to-ceiling windows. On the ground floor, the balconies are swapped for private plunge pools and manicured gardens, many of which would make idyllic settings for intimate al fresco wedding receptions after a ceremony on the seafront jetty. Susona Bodrum’s award-winning culinary offering is another highlight, promising an escape from the ordinary. I recommend trying their local delicacies, including oven-roasted ‘Manti’, a tasty Turkish Ravioli served alongside a trio of smoked yoghurt, paprika butter and fresh mint pesto, and the sublime ‘Kadayif’ custard for dessert, which had a base of pistachio crumble, topped by vanilla pudding, caramelised sugar sauce and summer berries. As the evening draws to a close, the expert bar staff can rustle up a bespoke cocktail for you at the boho-style Malva bar, such as a spin on the classic gin and tonic, infused with satsumas from local fruit trees.
