Most of you have waited patiently to get going with your arrangements, and now, I think we all see a ray of light at the end of the tunnel. t Blame Her Ranch, we’ve recently had the unexpected happen during one of our weddings. The main water line that provides water to the ranch burst. It was one of those things you would never expect to happen or plan for, but the couple and Randy the Ranch Hand handled the problem in a way that minimized the inconvenience. The first thing that Randy did was notify me and I in turn got our crew, plumbers, and experts immediately working to fix the line and restore water to the ranch. Randy and I immediately knew it would be several hours before the line would be repaired. So, we sent the staff into town to purchase 5-gallon bottles of water for those staying at the ranch. Next, we arranged for the staff to provide their homes so the wedding party staying at the ranch could take showers and get ready for the ceremony. Were people inconvenienced? Yes. Did everyone understand and adapt? Yes. Did Blame Her Ranch need to refund part of the couple’s rental agreement? Yes.

Have your Wedding Planner provide a list of back-ups should the unexpected happen like a broken heel, make-up or hair disaster. Always be solution-oriented and remain calm. Everything is solvable when you and the wedding team put your heads together. Talk to all vendors, especially catering, about their backup plans.

Keep the family drama to a minimum. Don’t put feuding family members at the same table. Weather. Blame Her Ranch is fortunate to have a Plan B. With just a few hour’s notice, outdoor ceremonies and receptions can be moved into our Knotty Pine Barn. Before booking an outdoor space, ask your venue what their Plan B is in the case of inclement weather. Restrictions and Rules cause problems. Most venues have too many rules regarding dos and don’ts, cut-off times, and vendor procedures. These always lead to a misunderstanding, so make sure all parties are aware of the restrictions, or even better, try to book a venue like Blame Her Ranch that limits restrictions of this kind. There you go! The good, the bad, and the ugly. Remember, hiring the right Wedding Planner and a venue that focuses on customer service and solutions keep the unexpected events to a minimum!

ENGLAND Since the 21st of June, the rule limiting the number of people at weddings has been lifted. The number depends on the venue’s capacity, defined by a Covid-19 risk assessment.

WALES Civil partnerships and weddings can take place in approved venues, depending on the capacity and social distancing measures. Wedding receptions can now take place indoors with a maximum of 30 people.

We celebrated our wedding on the 12th of September 2020.

NORTHERN IRELAND There is no limit to the number of people who can attend weddings. The venue will assess how many people they can accommodate safely. Receptions can take place.

WAS IT DIFFICULT TO PLAN A WEDDING DURING THE PANDEMIC?

As the wedding was planned before the pandemic and invites had already been sent out, everything was thrown into disarray due to not knowing which restrictions would be put into place. Availability of the venue was also a worry, as the venue similarly did not know what they could do. Once the venue was confirmed, we had two weeks to prepare and arrange everything. To make it more stressful, one of the suits arrived late! In short, yes it was very difficult to plan our wedding, but it was worth it.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO MARRY IN 2020?

It was the nearest date to the 40th anniversary of our first meeting. We cherish the 13th of September of 1980, it’s the day we fell in love. We loved the fact that our wedding was very intimate. We simply wanted to celebrate our love and share it with the people we care about the most.

WHERE DID YOU HAVE YOUR WEDDING?

WHAT WILL WEDDINGS LOOK LIKE?

With summer weddings taking place across the country, let’s find out what is allowed and what is not. Spacious outdoor locations are preferred, with sanitising stations across the perimeter. With venues preparing a Covid-19 risk assessment based on capacity, it’s clear that open-air settings offer better solutions for social distancing. The more space and air flowing, the merrier. If the weather doesn’t look promising, make sure you have an indoor backup plan, with enough space to include all your original attendees. Ask all your guests to wear face coverings whenever they are in enclosed spaces, and

remember, good ventilation is extremely important. Most planners and venues will suggest choosing sit-down meals. It might take up a bit more of your budget, but getting served on your wedding day is worth it. On your sitting map, try to put households together and position social bubbles next to each other. Speeches are welcome, preferably outdoors, and with social distancing in place. Same for the first dance, it can be done! Another element that we’ve been missing, live music, can be booked for your big day. Just remember not to sing along! STYLED SHOOT The venue is located within Stanlake Vineyard in Berkshire. As summer is within reach, we went with a warm bright colour palette. We also wanted the layout to be Alfresco and amongst the grounds of the Vineyard to show off its natural beauty. The grounds were perfect as they didn’t distract too much from the details and colour of the table design and flowers. We wanted to bring a slice of Italy to the UK! In a time where we were all longing for a holiday that the pandemic wouldn’t allow, we thought to recreate the holiday vibe in sunny Berkshire. We designed the layout based on an intimate wedding. With this shoot, we want to show couples that they can have the most beautiful wedding, despite how many people attend. We were lucky enough to work with two dress designers, Flora Bridal and It was all a Dream. This was amazing as the dresses were a huge staple of the shoot. The dress from It was all a Dream was handprinted, and this was a real treat to capture.

Set in a charming French village, Chateau de Minargent is a picture-perfect small-scale chateau. Lovingly furnished in a hue of blues, it was a perfect match for our photoshoot, planned by Best Events Company. With the softest of colour palettes, marrying pale blue and powder pink, the musically gifted couple gave us the idea to feature the baby grand piano which sits in the historic hallway of the chateau, with its beautiful original floor tiling. The florist for the day was the talented Chloe Le Berre from Les Ephémères who uses local flowers and works sustainably, without floral foam, and has a true passion for her work which shines through her art. The divine blooms were selected from within France and she also incorporated foraged spring blossoms. The destination wedding photographer Véronique Chesnel captured the exquisite elements for this photoshoot, including the handmade children’s clothing made from pre-loved wedding gowns by Dawn Clarke Designs modelled by the wonderful Joseph and Rokhaya, and expertly captured by fine art videographer Matthias Guerin and his partner Rose. The outdoor ceremony was set against the chateau’s faded blue doors, which made a perfect backdrop for a small ceremony, and the chemistry between the couple was a joy. Best friends Joseph and Rokhaya adored their clothes including their intricate matching masks.

The floral displays were divine and reflected the overall feel of the day. The bride wore the most beautiful pink gown by Millia London, complemented by the newly designed pale blue shoes from Bella Belle Shoes and earrings from French bridal accessory house Maison Mimi. Hair and make up were expertly delivered by Alexia Bigaud Morin who settled on a fresh modern styling. The male model looked dashing in a black suit with pastel accessories by Le Colonel Paris.

tied the knot in a beautiful artistic ceremony

nastasia and I met in law school, in San Francisco and for our wedding, we wanted to go back to where our love story started. We chose the Asian Art Museum as our wedding and reception venue because of the beautiful architecture throughout the building. The history behind the museum is magnificent too, it was the original site for the San Francisco Public Library. The colour palette we chose was inspired by our favourite season, autumn. We had a lot of flowers; this was really important to Anastasia as she wanted them to be the focal point. We wanted our celebration to have the feel of being outdoors, just like being in the middle of a garden. Most of our guests didn’t need to fly. For those who did, some stayed at the Fairmont Hotel, an iconic San Francisco hotel at the top of Nob Hill. This is also where we did our ‘first look’ and exchanged vows before heading to the ceremony. One of the biggest challenges we faced when planning, was staying on budget. We tried and failed. Though, not having an official wedding party did help to lower the costs, and also allowed our unofficial wedding party to choose their own attire. It was also a little difficult to keep the guest count from getting out of control. We finally settled on 150, but that was still more than what we originally wanted. The most important piece of advice we would give to anyone planning a wedding would be to get a wedding planner! It is worth the money. Even with a planner, the amount of time it takes to make decisions is like a part-time job. We wouldn’t have been able to do the wedding the way we wanted without a planner and, we probably would have both gotten fired for not getting any work done. Planners know which vendors are the best and most trustworthy and will take out any element of surprise that you don’t want to deal with.

had an intimate wedding in London...

e got married in October 2021 during the global pandemic. We had our ceremony in the Westminister Room of the Old Marylebone Town Hall and then had lunch at The Orrery in Marylebone. Planning our wedding was completely stress-free once we decided to embrace the intimacy of a tiny pandemic wedding! We did have to change our plans when restrictions tightened from a guest list of 25 to 4! That was definitely the hardest part, it was a difficult decision to make as it meant not having any of our siblings or close family and friends present. However, we found the actual wedding planning itself very simple - we always knew we wanted to take a relaxed approach to our little big day and had clear ideas of what we liked so finding great suppliers was easy. 2020 reminded us on both a global and personal level that nothing is guaranteed in life. Losing a very important family member - Beth’s grandmother Sylvia - encouraged us to embrace life despite the pandemic, so we decided we didn’t want the long planning process or fuss that often comes with a wedding! When the restrictions started changing, we had a tricky decision to make but ultimately just really wanted to marry each other! A few weeks after we decided on our wedding date, we found out Beth was pregnant with our little rainbow baby, it felt really special to have our son join our day in bump form. We loved having a tiny wedding. There was no pressure, no stress, no family politics or demanding expectations. Although we missed some important faces, it felt really special to exchange our vows without a large audience, with just TC’s parents and Beth’s mum and grandfather to witness. Of course, we also saved a lot of money by having a small day which meant we didn’t have to spend years planning and saving or accrue any debt to get married. We were able to focus our budget on much more luxurious things - like a four-course fine dining lunch and a 5-star hotel suite for us to spend our wedding night in! I wore a £70 ASOS dress and felt a million dollars; none of the usual wedding pressure felt like it mattered.

Marvin and Serena exchanged vows surrounded by picturesque mountain views

e chose Moab because of the scenery. Due to the pandemic, we were forced to scale down from 150 guests to just 10. Serena loves the outdoors and Utah has the 3rd largest number of national parks in the country, so when we had to change our plans there was no other option, but to go to Utah. We are so grateful for the experience we had, having our elopement surrounded by nature’s beauty and our loved ones. When we were choosing our venue, we decided based on accessibility, uniqueness and location. We landed on Dead Horse State Park, because of the picturesque quality. This park is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The natural Moab landscape, our green outfits and our guests’ neutral clothing worked so well together. Serena’s favourite colour is green, and Marvin went to Michigan State, so we just both naturally like the colour green. Serena’s dress was from Milla Nova and my suit was a green seersucker double-breasted custom suit from Indochino. With our wedding being held outdoors at a state park, the scenery was what we really wanted to stand out and we didn’t need a ton of decorations. Our florist, Eight Tree Street Floral, put together some amazing pieces for us that helped accentuate our ceremony location, along with some rugs to stand on. The reception we had was at our Airbnb which was nestled in the Moab Spanish valley. It was a candlelit dinner, surrounded by auburn-coloured mountains in the middle of the desert. We literally pulled the event together in three months, so time was probably the main challenge. Due to the pandemic, we made the decision literally three months prior to cancel/postpone our original event and shift to the Moab elopement. While we had a vision and expectations, planning an event in a place we had never been and working with vendors we had never done business with, proved to be challenging. The advice we would give to couples planning their wedding would be to focus on what is important to you! Friends and family will try to make this day about what they want, but this is your day.

I feel relieved and very happy for all those couples who were anxious and desperate. After a long and difficult year, this is a new beginning and we all hope that things will get better in the following months.

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE FIRST WEDDING IN YOUR BOOKS?

My first wedding will be on the last weekend of June, in a wonderful countryside resort near Rome. Like all the other summer weddings, it was originally scheduled a year ago. And, many of these have been postponed to 2022.

WHAT HAS CHANGED IN THE WAY YOU WORK?

This year we must stay informed at all times, because the situation is changing every week, and regulations have to adapt to the evolution of the pandemic. We need to comply with every new rule and make sure brides and grooms are aware of what is permitted, and what is forbidden as well.

THE LATEST WEDDING SHOOT YOU HAVE CREATED?

During 2020 we worked on 3 different wedding shoots in 3 different locations. Each of them was inspired by a different theme and set. We searched for unusual and unpublished places nearby, mainly outdoors. The whole work was condensed into an inspirational ebook we sold to collect donations for a pediatric oncology hospital in Rome.

WHAT INSPIRED THE SHOOT?

I wanted to focus on authentic Italian sceneries, far from what everyone can see on the internet, and different compared to the wedding shoots that take place in Italy. I offered pure Italian style, without any reference to famous locations.

Interview ARE COUPLES COMING TO YOU WITH NEW REQUESTS?

Actually, they don’t have specific new requests. They are cautious about having a safe wedding, but most of all, they are very eager to celebrate their big day to the fullest.

WHAT HAS THIS PAST YEAR TAUGHT YOU?

As a business owner, I had to be fast at making decisions, and very quick at predicting changes. At the same time, with all my team, I had to be closer than ever to all my clients, supporting them and giving them good advice. Finland is a winter wonderland: the landscape is shimmering white, the sky is dark blue, the lakes and sea are frozen, the fireplaces and decorative lights are on to create warmth. In the summer, a wedding on an island or by the Baltic Sea is an experience. Finland is called the land of a thousand lakes, and it is wonderful to celebrate weddings with a lake as a backdrop, even in autumn, when nature glows with colours. Finland is also a country of equality, so all people over the age of 18 have the same rights to marry, regardless of religion or sexual orientation, for example.

WHAT’S YOUR MESSAGE TO COUPLES?

Start early, be flexible, and hire a professional. Times have changed, and the norms of wedding planning have changed with them. Having a team of experts by your side will be worth the money. The pandemic has changed most plans, and what I suggest is that couples start from scratch. They should think about what’s important to them; the big wedding surrounded by people, or are they ready to scrap the idea and simply celebrate their love intimately. Take a realistic look at the overall situation and make the most of it. Be prepared to give up your initial expectations and embrace change. With a team of planners, you won’t be disappointed.

WHICH TRENDS ARE ON THE RISE?

Here are a few trends that will emerge between 20222023, especially in Finland: 1. Intimate weddings: Just because you are planning a smaller event doesn’t mean you need to scale down the experience. 2. A sensory experience: Events will be experiences that guests can share and remember for a lifetime. 3. Bespoke and easy-to-wear: Wedding dresses and suits will become much more practical and locally crafted. 4. Original ring designs: Rings designed by the wedding couple are becoming popular. Most of these are handmade by a local jewelry artist. 5. Personalised events: The couple’s traditions, values, and origins enhance new cultural features for weddings.

YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT SO FAR?

During these 30 last years, I have done a lot of beautiful things for people: working with the Office of the President of the Republic and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, decorating the opening of the New Helsinki Music Hall, and the assignments received from the White House since the Helsinki Summit have been significant achievements. I have won a few international competitions, won awards in clothing design, Chaîne des Rôtisseurs has awarded me as Chevalier, and I was selected as the first top Finnish wedding planner in 2015. Yet, I consider the greatest achievement to date to be my work as an entrepreneur for 23 consecutive years, constantly developing and creating new projects. New Beginnings We sat down with Rhian and her mum to learn about their inspiring bridal boutique... a full refurb! We think the shop looks incredible and we have received some wonderful feedback. Since the reopening on the 12th of April, we have been extremely busy. We haven’t had a day yet where we haven’t been fully booked. We are loving meeting with our brides and their loved ones after such a stressful year, and it’s so lovely to talk with hope about the future.

We are a family-run bridal boutique trying to make a difference. Our main focus is on service and inclusivity. We aim to provide every bride with the best possible experience no matter their budget, style, shape, or size. We are proud to have such a wide selection of incredible designers, with over 200 different styles available in a wide range of sizes. Unlike a lot of boutiques, we carry equal numbers of plus-size and smaller size dresses, so every bride who walks through our door has a huge range to try on and choose from. We need to spend some time getting to know our brides as we truly feel that the perfect dress is so much more than one that looks great; it needs to fit with your vision and embody your personality. We have helped hundreds of brides since our opening in 2018, and we honestly can’t wait to continue!

Rosalyn’s Emporium All you need to know about Rosalyn’s Emporium and its customised jewellery HOW HAS IT BEEN SINCE THE EASING OF RESTRICTIONS?

I’m fortunate to have been incredibly busy. My workshop is private so I have been able to work on commissions and recycling throughout this whole period. In-person workshops and consultations had to stop but I started offering Zoom calls. Even though my workshop is ‘by appointment only’, I’ve followed non-essential retail guidelines to ensure my clients and business remain safe. Everyone has been so supportive and I have worked on some amazing projects so, despite the stress, I can say that the past year has been very productive.

HOW ARE YOU WELCOMING BACK CLIENTS?

With absolute joy! I started my business with Make Your Own wedding ring workshops. I moved from a home workshop to a private unit in November 2019 with plans to grow the business and offer more workshops. I only had 3 months before the first lockdown and it was devastating. It’s wonderful to have clients back in now. I have a Covid-19 policy and ask everyone to adhere to this. They are all so happy to be doing something towards their wedding, commissioning or making rings they will wear forever.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR COMPANY.

Rosalyn’s Emporium is a bespoke jewellery business specialising in commissions, Make Your Own wedding ring workshops, recycling and remodelling gold and gems. Established in 2016, I wanted to combine my 20 plus years of experience making bespoke items with a meaningful, specialist business. My previous experience cemented my love for creating jewellery that can be treasured and passed down. The jewellery industry can negatively impact the environment and livelihoods of mining communities. The gold I buy is 100% recycled, our stones are ethically and responsibly sourced, my packaging supports artisan makers and is made from FSC materials. I’m very picky when it comes to working with suppliers and I have spent a lot of time researching trusted and reputable ones. My future plans are to develop ‘RE Collections’ which will be one-off or small quantities of pre-made jewellery, carefully designed or briefed with clients in mind but allowing me more creative freedom to develop my style.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO?

Like most people, I have missed seeing family. Living in Chesham, we were able to enjoy the beautiful countryside and weather last year, but I am looking forward to exploring other parts of the UK. I have a girls’ weekend in Devon planned for July and a family holiday to plan for August. I take August off work for school holidays (our children will be 10 and 7 in the summer) so it’s a great moment to take time off work before we get busy again in autumn. Spot on Event We had a chat with Nehar, founder of Spot on Event, and this is what we found out about the award-winning Luxury Planner... HOW HAS IT BEEN SINCE THE EASING OF RESTRICTIONS?

There are still some uncertainties with couples given that the restrictions have been on and off since last year. It has been busy though. Couples turn to us as experts in the industry to know which is the best way forward and where possible, we advise them the best we can. Some couples are happy to reduce their numbers and just get married, they don’t mind social distancing in their photos or masks at a ceremony, you can get some really quirky photos with masks on. Some couples, however, want the big traditional wedding, and they have had to postpone a few times.

HOW ARE YOU WELCOMING BACK CLIENTS?

With a lot of excitement. I have missed meeting with my clients and being able to share the joy with them, so post May, I have arranged for afternoon teas with most of my couples to enjoy being with them face-to-face, having a planning session as well as a cheeky afternoon tea. You’ll be surprised by the difference between an in-person planning session and a virtual one.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR COMPANY.

Spot on Event was born to give couples the best experience ever when it comes to wedding planning. This means handholding as much as required, making things happen regardless of how unique the concept. I love taking my clients’ scattered ideas and turning them into what I like to call a “masterpiece”. Over the years, the business has evolved, and I just love how different all my weddings are. Be it multicultural, traditional, or with a modern twist, all the weddings I have planned have all been my favourite. Currently focusing on the luxury market and multicultural or multi-day weddings, I’m actually really excited to plan weddings again. Although, I’ve adapted to micro weddings during the last year, and they are cute and romantic for sure, but nothing, in my opinion, beats a wedding venue full of guests, large floral décor and a night full of singing and dancing.

Once all restrictions are lifted, I am really looking forward to a normal wedding… not because it will be normal, but because I’ll be able to see all the excitement on everyone’s face; everyone will be dressed up again, enjoying the moment, and this it is something we have not been able to experience in a very long time. spotonevent.co.uk

wo people we love to see at weddings on our ranch are the Wedding Planner and Venue Manager.

Often, couples confuse these two critical roles when establishing their wedding budget and what they want on their special day. A Wedding Planner is hired by the couple and typically focuses on all wedding-related activities. The Wedding Planner provides the couple with tremendous insight on wedding suppliers, venues, timelines, budgets, and much, much more. Particularly valuable is how they keep the wedding day activities on schedule, making sure things flow properly and most importantly, allow the couple to enjoy their time with family and friends. It’s fair to say, Wedding Planners can be expensive. But, they are worth every dime when you consider their role, contributions, and even suggestions on how to save on the wedding budget. Wedding Planners can be hired just for the day, but typically work over a year or six-month period of time to start the planning process and secure all the necessary commitments for your wedding day—including the welcome dinner, rehearsal dinner, lodging, just to name a few. The Wedding Planner always plays a big role in selecting the wedding venue. In our case, at Blame Her Ranch, the wedding planner works directly with Randy, the Ranch Hand, regarding venue-related issues. Many times, couples confuse the Wedding Planner and their agenda with our Venue Manager. In short, Randy the Ranch Hand is an extension of the Wedding Planner. Someone who focuses on elements directly related to the venue. In our case, Randy answers all pertinent questions and issues revolving around securing Blame Her Ranch and the key deliverables provided in our contract. After the contract is signed, he works with the couple to make sure all the financial elements are paid on time. In addition to financial duties, Randy also helps both the couple and Wedding Planner select rooms for the guests, he provides insight into kitchen related issues, meets separately with vendors, with or without the couple, to save time and money, and is the driving force for the wedding set-up both at the ceremony area, barn, and great lawn. As you might expect, everybody wants their tables and chairs arranged in a specific fashion and Randy manages the entire process at Blame Her Ranch, from A-Z. Rarely

does he get involved in any of the wedding specifics and as the name suggests, concentrates on the functionality and key deliverables on site. Since Blame Her Ranch is the premier destination ranch in America, our Venue Manager goes beyond what you would typically find in a resort or a hotel. This is partly because of our exclusive and remote location, but also because our focus is on customer service, and we try to eliminate restrictions most venues apply to their wedding clientele. Part of this comes in having a Venue Manager like Randy, but also someone who is there to help with a set of services that are exclusive to the ranch through Randy’s Rental company.
