A Love Story on
Lake Orta
An elegant shoot set on the shores of a picturesque Italian hamlet SUPPLIED BY WANDERLUST WEDDINGS & EVENTS
The concept for this shoot was inspired by a couple who loves Italy - the Italian lakes, the ancient architecture, the culture and the romantic allure. We wanted to create an intimate setting where modernity meets elegance. We opted for a refined yet contemporary aesthetic to complement the young couple. Orta is a historic hamlet with a
very fresh feel just like Beatrice and Luca - it was a match made in heaven for the idea we wanted to convey with this wedding editorial. The venue had to be a classic but modernized Italian villa close to the lake. We picked the unique setting of Villa Antica Colonia - a beautiful hotel with breathtaking views over the lake.

Lexie and Aisha are LGBTQ+ activists in London. Lexie is a wedding planner and Aisha works in science: "Pride is all year long for us and each year celebrating pride month means something different. This year it means being visible and getting seen in places that don't usually champion queer Black women like us.
We met at the annual UK Black Pride a few years ago, which we are also part of. Aisha is Head of Community Engagement and Lexie is Head of Operations. UK Black Pride is Europe's largest celebration for LGBTQI+ African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Caribbean heritage.

Tied the knot overlooking the romantic Monaco harbour... While my groom was getting into his bespoke three-piece suit, I was getting ready in the Riviera Diamond Suite. My dress was breathtaking and I felt stunning in it. The Mother Nature “Hana” gown was inspired by faraway lands with delicate hand-embroidered flower details, gold accents on the upper body and a floor-length sweeping “Izanami” kimono. This gown spoke for itself, so I simply finished my look with a pair of Maison Vitale “Fleurs des Mers Bleues” earrings. As I joined my love at the Excelsior Terrace of the Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo through the open doors of the beautifully adorned Excelsior salon, I was greeted by a hand-picked gathering of our nearest and dearest. With our intimate affair, we wanted the floral decorations to really stand out, and they were beautifully arranged by Claire of Dandelions & Grace. The decor was designed to enhance my modern look but also render homage to the classic French elegance of the stunning venue. The cocktails were served on the outdoor terrace of the exotic gardens of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo overlooking the sea and Palace, and during that time, we had private photos taken in the gardens, under the wooden canopy lining the alley way reminiscing gardens of far-away lands. We then celebrated with our loved ones with an elegant sit-down dinner.

The date for our wedding was an easy pick for us. We chose the date Liam proposed 2 years before. We both love Portugal so we decided it was the place for us. We went on endless trips out there to find the perfect venue. When we saw Casa do Lago in Quinta Do Lago, we instantly fell in love with it. We knew it was the one straight away! The sunset on the lake was magical and a wedding abroad was the best decision we could have made. We always wanted a big wedding with everyone we love there to celebrate with us, so we had no plans to cut our guest list. We had 140 people join us in Portugal and it was truly amazing to have everyone we love there. We couldn’t have done it without our wedding planner Rebecca. Planning a wedding abroad is difficult but with her help, everything turned out glamorous and elegant. Our amazing photographer Courtney Marie Photography made a huge difference on our wedding day. She made us feel comfortable and at ease, especially since we don’t love to get our photos taken. Two years in and I still can’t stop looking at our smiles and my beautiful dress in our wedding album - I love it!

Theilay & Rory celebrated their love in a historic castle surrounded by their loved ones... We picked the 21st of August 2021 as our wedding date. We were supposed to be married the year before but due to Covid-19, our wedding was postponed. We looked at many venues in Scotland and Dundas Castle took our breath away. The castle, very close to home, is so beautiful and it ticked all of our boxes. It also has a very interesting history and represents the beauty of Scotland. We wanted to keep our wedding classy and elegant just like the venue, and everything turned out wonderfully. We have to give a big round of applause to the great staff at Dundas Castle and our professional suppliers. Jessica Lily, our photographer, is super friendly and easy to work with. On the day, she just blended in the background like a guest but still captured the most beautiful pictures. Also, our makeup artist, Jessica Trant, was very lovely and made us feel beautiful. Our celebrant was also fantastic. He did such a fantastic job and offered a service that reflected our personalities. The ceremony was the most intimate part of the day. It was the time both Rory and I got to really focus on each other. I felt very emotional and tried my very best not to cry. I loved my wedding dress, I truly felt like a princess, but I did have to visit 8 wedding dress shops to find the one. I was so indecisive and due to having a fashion background, I knew I would be quite picky. I had an idea of what I wanted but couldn’t find it so I went for a dress close to what I liked and altered it a lot. I bought the Rhiannon dress from the Morilee range and changed the overskirt, the neckline and added off-the-shoulder sleeves. This dress gave me two looks in one.

Shared special moments together during their intimate ceremony amidst the Californian desert... We picked Joshua Tree National Park because we desired a truly magical location, different from the rest. We wanted to make it special, intimate, a priceless memory, and not break the bank and our desert-inspired theme wedding at Joshua Tree did the trick. We’re both outdoorsy, adventurous people so it was the perfect fit, and now we have the most beautiful place to visit on our anniversaries. We will celebrate with our family and friends next year, on the same date, and for this reason, we wanted our intimate celebration to be all about us. I was so nervous and excited! We stayed in the cutest Airbnb and we spent a lot of time there. That’s where I did my makeup and put on my beautiful dress. I actually tried on at least 10 gowns in a shop, but in the end, I went with my gut and picked the online option. It was literally the best day of our lives and so full of emotions. I started crying during our first look and basically cried all through the ceremony! It was the sweetest thing to see Anthony wipe tears away and pucker up his lips to keep himself from crying as well. All of the attention was on us and that’s what made it perfect. It was so magical and a dream come true for me. I’ve had a pretty difficult life and have faced a lot of trauma and this day was a real turning point for me. It was all about us from start to finish. A wonderful memory of the days was when we were going to have dinner in Palm Spring but 15 minutes down the road, we decided to turn around and have pizza and cake at our Airbnb instead.

Valentina & Michael said “I do” on the mesmerising Amalfi Coast... Michael and I first met and fell in love in June 2015, while vacationing in Amalfi with separate groups of friends. Four years later, Michael popped the question at the same restaurant where we first met. The date of our wedding was the 26th of June 2021, exactly one year from Michael’s proposal and also the anniversary of our first encounter. I’ve always wanted to marry in Amalfi. It was important to honour the culture and tradition of Italy as part of my identity. Michael has also come to adore Italy, so when our wedding planner Mitheo Events introduced us to Villa Astor as the ultimate wedding destination, everything fell right into place! Villa Astor is a breathtaking villa among manicured gardens, packed with treasures from the Neoclassical era, and we immediately thought it would be perfect for the elegant and romantic celebration we had in mind. Even when our guest count went down to 12 from 120 due to Covid, we were still fixed on this wedding venue, which became our Italian piece of paradise. For our theme, we wanted timeless elegance with Italian flair. We hoped to include our favourite palette of white, soft grey, ivory and gold. Our wedding designers Mitheo Events created for us delicate organic arrangements of roses and peonies, lots of candles, intriguing gold details along with classy Grecian and Roman elements to reflect the venue’s identity. Our love for Italy and its culture was also reflected in our first dance song choice, we picked “Volare”, though we chose the slower version by Andrea Bocelli.

Real Weddiing
It was a special experience putting on my wedding dress inside the decadent, boudoir style room of such a historic Italian villa, that tied me to my roots. I instantly fell in love with my stunning Monique Lhuillier dress. It was the first bridal gown I had ever tried on. It was an elegant and minimalist mermaid design made of white silk, with drop shoulders, puffy sleeves and an open neckline. It was both romantic and fashionable, and as Monique Lhuillier is my favourite designer, when I put it on, it felt like it had been designed just for me. Walking down the aisle at the arches of Villa Astor’s terrace, having all the Amalfi Coast at my feet and seeing Michael waiting for me along with our closest friends and family, was a feeling of utter bliss. We chose to recite our own vows, just us two, with no celebrant present, so our ceremony was in reality just a heart-to-heart confession of love. And, we loved our private photography session with Bottega 53.

" ABOUT THE CASTLE Inspired by the beautifully manicured gardens surrounding the castle, Tomas De Bruyne did his best to incorporate as many natural elements as he could. The castle is nestled in acres of woodland, just like you would see in fairytales, and this location, with its majestic features, was the perfect setting to accommodate a small wedding fused with grand and lush details, as the floral decorations. The garden roses came from the renowned Alexandra Farms, whilst the greenery was cut directly from the garden. The indoor space was transformed into an intimate, garden-inspired backdrop for the couple to celebrate with those closest to them.

The weddings of next season will be intimate, with a small guest list, or, in many cases, elopements. Although the guest list is pared back, the styling will be full of creativity and fun. We are living in the decade of 'green weddings', with couples seeking sustainable ways to organise their day without sacrificing the details. 2022 will feature retro and recycled elements and sustainable styling, such as potted plants instead of cut flowers. Where did you honeymoon?
We decided to travel to Europe and explore some of its irresistibly romantic destinations. We visited Santorini, Mykonos, Positano and Sorrento.
What did you eat?
We ate lots of pasta, pizza, fish, gelato, cheese and delicious pastries.
What did you get up to? We explored each city, tried different cuisines, drank great wine, shopped, went to beach clubs, enjoyed multiple private boat rides and took a pizza and gnocchi making class!
Where did you stay?
We rested in top-notch hotels and resorts overlooking the sea. These were all fairytale locations and we relaxed plenty at Canaves Oia Hotel, Myconian Imperial Resort, Hotel Le Agavi and Grand Hotel De La Ville.
Which places did you visit?
We went to visit Santorini, Mykonos and Positano. We took a private boat tour around the Amalfi Coast, toured the beautiful town of Sorrento and took another private boat ride to Capri.
Why did you choose this location for your honeymoon?
We have always wanted to go and could not picture more exciting and romantic places than Greece and Italy to spend our once in a lifetime trip - and it truly was!
A few special moments of the trip?
Our private boat ride exploring the Almalfi Coast, going
through the Blue Grotto, experiencing a brief rainstorm then rainbow over Positano, eating pasta on the beach, finding a restaurant from my husband’s family childhood vacation, having a limoncello break in Capri in between shopping, and eating at a 5-star restaurant on the last night in Sorrento overlooking the sea.
