Best of The Bahamas...

Set to be one of the world’s greatest honeymoon destinations in 2018, the Islands Of The Bahamas are truly enchanting. We’ve hand-picked five of the most romantic hotspots across the islands for the adventure of a lifetime! 1

The Bahamas is a group of 16 main islands, set in an archipelago of hundreds of islands and cays

4 PINK SAND BEACH
1 SWIM WITH THE PIGS
Shades of sapphire and turquoise blue dominate the scenery across The Exumas, a chain of 365 islands and cays — one for every day of the year! If you want to uncover a truly one-of-akind experience here, head to Big Major Cay. It’s the home of wild pigs who enjoy swimming in the waters. No one knows how they got there, but whenever a boat arrives, they swim out and expect to be fed — it has become a tradition over the years.
2 BLUE HOLES NATIONAL PARK
Fall in love with endlessly stretching limestone caves filled with seawater, so abundant that they comprise this Caribbean pine and coppice forest. Beaches dapple the area where you can stop for a sun-soaked picnic, meander along the trails to discover the flora and fauna living amidst the foliage, or take a plunge into one of the glittering natural pools. Captain Bill’s Blue Hole is steeped in romance, complete with a boardwalk and shaded gazebo.
3 SEA PLANE FLIGHTS The Bahamas lays claim to some of the world’s clearest waters — and the sky is just as blue, so view the ocean colours at their best from a seaplane. Almost every island can be landed on, even the more remote ones, and seeing the constellation of islands sprinkled across the sea is mesmerising. Up here you’ll see The Bahamas for what it truly is: paradise. 20
DWHA || january / february
An island of natural beauty, Harbour Island is perhaps most renowned for its Pink Sand Beach, often considered one of the best beaches in the world. The perfectly pink sands stretch for over three miles, caressed by tranquil turquoise waters. The sand here is always cool, so you can stroll barefoot down the beach with your new husband, no matter the time of day. If you fancy something a little different, horseback riding along the beach is a popular activity for honeymooners.
5 DOLPHIN PARADISE Dolphin Cay at Atlantis Paradise Island offers one of the world’s largest open-air, man-made marine mammal habitats and rehabilitation facilities, where you can find unparalleled educational experiences to remember for a lifetime. You can take part in creative interactions with dolphins in an undisruptive environment, get close to them, and feel a rush when they swim beside you. You can also dive with the dolphins in Bimini — an experience that's sure to be a highlight of your visit.

Vigna Belvedere On the happiest day of your life, what better way to commemorate Cloud Nine than a celebratory glass (or bottle) of the sumptuously sparkling and outrageously appealing Italian prosecco, Vigna Belvedere?
I
dyllically set between the lush lagoons of Venice and the alluring Carnic Alps, Vigna Belvedere’s expansive vineyards boast a long-standing family history exceeding 200 years of deeply rooted farming traditions. Their Stone Pine symbol presented on every cherished bottle, the tree — grown by ancestors to use in the development of boats and palaces — marks clear the family’s highest respect for sustaining the surroundings’ rich fertility. Staying true to the example set by previous ancestors, the newly rejuvenated vineyards have been introduced to a more modern approach to viticulture. The vineyard’s production cycle is meticulously nurtured day-by-day with the purpose of preserving the health of the vines and in balancing yields, favouring quality over quantity. Only intervening with Mother Nature’s process when the life of the plant is seriously threatened, the fundamental benefits of the natural yeasts and microorganisms in the soil are not jeopardised. This considerate cultivation — ultimately — sanctions a harmoniously uninterrupted journey from seed to glass. Through delicate pruning, Vigna Belvedere relies on the motif that with better quality grapes, comes better quality wine. Consequently, vines are under no pressure to yield high quantities of grapes, so much as producing grapes of high quality.
Did you know?
Prosecco is said to have some health benefits, including heart circulation and keeping your mind sharp With no naughty acidic or sugary additions, together with sulphite levels equating to those of organic wines, you can enjoy your bubbles innocuously, with certainty that every bottle popped in celebration of your special day not only encompasses a mouth-watering display of deliciousness, but is brimming with affection and devotion and love. For refreshment entirely divergent to the sweetness of your celebrations, try a Vigna Belvedere Prosecco Doc Brut. An attractive and understated light straw-yellow colour, the Doc Brut tantalises aromas of meadow herbs and grasses as you sip on the clean and well-balanced wine. The fine natural acidity, paired with bitter flavours of green apple and almond are ideal for your bespoke wedding breakfast, especially with fish and seafood starters. For a sweeter treat, try Vigna Belvedere Prosecco Extra Dry, its vivid yellow colour and fine, delicate foam pleasantly fruity with tropical hints. This fresh and rounded flavour combining ripe apples and pears with ethereal spring blossoms is consumed cordially with cocktails, aperitifs, cheese and desserts — perfect for unforgettable toasts.

REAL LIFE WEDDING IN FRANCE
Don’t tell the bride
Jack organised everything, from Melissa’s favourite flowers to a private chef who created a custom dessert
In June, we went on a two-week
vacation to Morocco and France. Before our trip, Jack mentioned that we should elope later in the year. He suggested I get a dress, and he would start looking into local venues. We agreed to not mention to anyone our elopement plans. Jack proposed in Morocco and I excitedly messaged our families to announce our engagement. Two days later, we were in Bordeaux, France, on a private wine tour. On the last stop of the tour, the winemaker suggested we go to the back patio to enjoy the views. I rounded the corner, and was greeted by mine and Jack’s families, screaming, cheering and crying. I was shocked and confused! Jack revealed he had been wedding planning for months, and we were getting married on Sunday at a Château, where our families had been staying a week prior to our arrival. They had been drinking wine in the backyard together when I had messaged about our engagement! We spent four nights with our families at a 19th-century castle set in its own private grounds of 50 acres with woodlands, lawns, and vineyard. Jack had arranged every detail and my mother had secretly snuck into our home and brought my wedding dress to France. Our wedding was very relaxed. My aunt gave me a small antique charm to attach to my bouquet that my great grandmother had given her on her wedding day. Jack’s mother brought a chandelier to hang from the branches, the same chandelier that had hung at Jack’s brothers wedding. We did the ritual breaking of the glass, followed by a communal Mazel Tov, and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres with champagne and an al fresco dinner overlooking the vineyard. I still cannot believe my husband was able to pull off this epic surprise. We were engaged and married within five days, a magical whirlwind. He is the perfect partner to me in every way, and it was the perfect wedding for us.
During dinner, every guest gave an informal speech. Everyone cried throughout the meal, including the photographer!

REAL LIFE WEDDING IN CANADA
Stephanie’s advice
Do what is best for you. You’ll be offered many opinions of what you should and should not do, but ultimately it is your day and you should do what makes you happy
We knew we wanted
to get married in winter, so we decided to have our wedding somewhere that everyone could travel to for a fun holiday. Ultimately, we chose Quebec, by the Laurentian Mountains. My husband’s parents have a cottage there, so we knew it was a beautiful destination. Saint Sauveur is a quaint ski village where most people speak only French. Our guests were able to partake in skiing, snowmobiling, skating, spas and enjoy Canadian French food. We visited a couple of venues but loved Hôtel Le Chantecler. The event coordinator was amazing and made our wedding planning experience as seamless as possible. Organising a destination wedding meant planning ahead of time to make trips to Quebec and meet with various vendors. We tied in all of my colours, including adding a few deep purple flowers in the centerpieces and using a bit of sparkle and lace details. We tried to keep costs down where we could, such as creating our own wedding invitations. I consulted wedding magazines and researched online to identify some designers that I liked and the style of dress I wanted. I organised a shopping day with my sister, sister-in-law, my mother and mother-in-law. We went to about seven different bridal shops and the last shop was where I found it. I knew it was the one. I loved the tulle and lace details of the dress. Most of our guests stayed at our wedding venue, the Hôtel Le Chantecler. This was very easy to set up and organise. We arranged a shuttle bus to take our guests to the church where we were married, then back to the venue for the reception. Some of our family, including ourselves, also rented cottages for the entire week.
Some of the most important elements of the wedding for the couple were good food, drinks and music!

REAL LIFE WEDDING IN ITALY Charlotte advises that if you’ve got your heart set on a specific look, budget for a couple of trips to your venue with suppliers in tow. Also, make sure you surround yourself with people who you love, fill you with confidence, and feel relaxed around
Classic romance
We chose to
get married in Puglia as that is Francesco’s home region and where we first met. When we found Masseria San Nicola, we knew instantly that it was the spot for us. The setting was so conducive to the colourful theme we had in mind that the rest of the planning was simple! As we’ve been together six years, the wedding, although religiously important, was more of a celebration of our love for each other. We didn’t want something serious, but joy filled, and bright colours fit that! Before we’d even found the venue, I spotted my perfect dress on Instagram. It was the first one I tried and I bought it during my lunch break from work! The little details, such as the pearl baby button good luck charm sewn inside the lining made me smile. When my shoes arrived, I found that they had ‘I love you x’ written inside — it was meant to be! With so many colours in my bouquet, shoes and headpiece, I wanted to keep my make up simple. For my hair, I just worked with my hairstylist, Raf to make it hit the right tone. One thing I feared about a destination wedding was finding local suppliers who understood what I was looking for. Being able to have Raf style my hair was a treat. A close friend worked with me on the make up look in advance, so we were well versed on the day. My mother and grandparents made hundreds of tissue paper flowers that were used to decorate the bridal cars and create a colourful backdrop for the Polaroid pictures. The two swimming pools at the Masseria were a focal point of the party too! The wedding party ended with everyone playing fully clothed with inflatable flamingos in the pool until 5.30am! Puglia is a wonderful area but tricky to get around, so I built a website on Squarespace with links to the accommodation with transport recommendations, as well as a huge list of places to see, stay, and things to eat in the area and wider region. Although I speak Italian, I found it difficult to make my vision clear. Italian wedding customs are very different from British ones, so I had to stand by my guns to get the wedding I wanted. Luckily that involved some nice weekend trips to wedding plan in Puglia! Photos of the wedding days of close relatives were hung from an ancient olive tree at the reception

REAL LIFE WEDDING IN CROATIA
Sasha’s top tip
Just enjoy it. We planned the wedding and had our share of laughs and tears. We enjoyed every second and left the rest behind us!
As a little girl,
I spent my summers in a village on the coast of Croatia. I remember swimming with my cousins and running around barefoot all day in the sun. When we were choosing our wedding destination in Toronto, my heart just wasn’t full. One night, my husband asked me, ‘where is your favourite place in the world?’ Immediately, I remembered the summers of my childhood. Next thing I knew, we were in Croatia deciding on our venues! As our ferry approached Hvar Island, we saw a majestic old terrace under a large clock tower overlooking the island and sea. The rest was history! After many months of searching for the perfect dress, I decided to make my own. I reached out to a Montreal designer who met with me to create the most magnificent fitting dress for me. It was light and flowy, lined with silk and simple details. I wanted something that represented simplicity and elegance, and it turned out perfectly! Overall, I ultimately wanted to look like myself. Often brides get carried away and lose themselves in the process, so I decided I wanted to keep my hair and make up light and simple. We worked with an incredible designer from Zagreb in Croatia, who added touches of our personality into the décor. From olive tree branches to golden vases, she created a whimsical yet sophisticated design. We were blessed to have the support of Suncani Hvar, as well as our designer. Our designer and florist had a vision and Suncani Hvar went out of their way to ensure every detail of their vision was perfected. From our welcome dinner to the big day itself, they executed with professionalism, and most importantly, with a smile. I couldn’t have been more grateful for their work. Our wedding was just perfect and all I had to do was show up!
Suncani Hvar Hotels provide a selection of exclusive and classic venues — they have something for everyone!

Short Hair
by Paul Windle
Co-founder of Windle & Moodie salon KEEP HAIR HEALTHY by looking after your scalp — it is like the soil that your hair is growing from. IT IS IMPORTANT TO find the right shampoo, which very much dictates a healthy scalp. Windle & Moodie’s Healthy Head (and hair) Treatment boosts circulation. It contains Yerba mate tea and green coffee, which are both known for their antioxident and microcirculation properties. Overall this helps to promote healthy hair growth. BE CAREFUL not to over-cleanse, as it can dry the scalp out. INVERSION EXERCISES, like the ones in yoga, help boost blood circulation to the scalp. You can also take vitamins, such as iron, vitamin C and B12. IF YOU ARE GOING SOMEWHERE HOT on your honeymoon, protect your hair with Windle & Moodie’s Invisible Day & Night cream, which you can use up to two to three times a day. It has sunscreen in it to protect your hair and keep it supple with heat exposure, salt water, and chlorine. WHEN IN DOUBT, wear a hat to protect your scalp if somewhere hot and sunny!

Long Hair
by Kasia Fortuna
Award-winning bridal hair stylist
HAVE REGULAR TRIMS every six to eight weeks, as this will prevent the hair cuticle from splitting. Split ends tend to travel up the shaft, making hair thin to the point of breaking. USE BRUSHES WITH BOAR BRISTLES to help condition your hair. The unique structure of boarbristle transports sebum — the natural oil produced by the scalp — from the roots to the end of the hair shaft. This coats hair with a tiny amount of sebum, giving hair a mirror-like shine and repairing dry hair. INCORPORATE A DEEP CONDITIONING treatment into your routine. Using it regularly will improve texture, elasticity and inject moisture to your hair. It also reduces split ends and breakages and improves the look and health of your scalp and hair. AVOID USING HEAT EXCESSIVELY and always use heat protector when straightening or blow drying. Also, don’t forget to use heat protector while on honeymoon as it also protects your hair from any UV damage. HAVE A WELL-BALANCED DIET, keep hydrated and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. It might also be a good idea to take supplements. Curly Hair
by Pam Wrigley
Award-winning bridal hair expert KEEP YOUR HAIR HEALTHY by having a trim around four weeks before the big day. After a trim, curls tend to spring up, so just a half-inch off the hair can look like you’ve had three inches off. I find it best to allow this amount of growing time so your hair can settle and regain some length. KEEP IT CLEAN with a 100% sulphate-free shampoo to help keep your curls soft and gorgeous. Always use a good conditioner for hydration. I love Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat conditioner — a little spritz will tame even the most unruly curls and it smells gorgeous too! DON’T TAKE ANY CHANCES! If you are planning to keep your natural curls for the wedding day, let your stylist know in advance. One of my favourite products is Boots Essential Curl Cream. NATURAL CURLS ARE UNPREDICTABLE — they can be amazing one day and frizzy the next. If you want to be sure of fabulous looking curls, it may be better to fake it. Ask your stylist to try different looks when you have your trial. Curly hair always holds a curl well, so whatever look you go for, you can be sure to have perfect curls all day. DON’T FORGET your umbrella!
“ Always
use a good conditioner for hydration”
Pam Wrigley
THE KEY TO BEAUTIFUL hair on your wedding day is preparation. Meet your hairdresser well in advance to discuss your ideas. Aim, if possible, for a sixmonth programme of appointments, including a trial session two to four weeks before the wedding day itself. You should bring along any accessories and a photograph of yourself in your gown. USE THE RIGHT SHAMPOO! Some shampoos can be harsh on your hair, which causes your colour to fade quicker. It’s important to use a shampoo that is specifically designed to boost and promote colour. REGULAR CONDITIONING will help your colour last longer. If the condition of your hair is bad, the hair cuticle opens up and allows the colour to drop out. Conditioning your hair regularly locks down the cuticle and seals in the colour, making it last much longer. Revlon Professional’s Revlonissimo range of shampoo and conditioners are my choice. GOING SOMEWHERE SUNNY on honeymoon? Protection from the sun is vital as it can actually damage your colour, making it look tired and faded. THE BEST WAY TO PROTECT your hair is to keep it out of the sun completely, but of course, this isn’t very realistic! When you can, wear a hat or use a protection spray. I swear by the Revlon Equave Protection Detangling Conditioner spray!

LUCIA MAGNANI REJUVENATING SERUM
Reviews tried & tested
The first thing I noticed about this product was that it smelt lovely. When using it, I only needed a pea-sized amount, so it should last a long time! I could see a difference in my skin within a couple of days. My skin was brighter, fresher, radiant, and had a more even tone Claudia

VITA LIBERATA LUXURY TAN MOUSSE
For the best results, I tend to apply this mousse after exfoliating for an even coverage. It blends effortlessly with great consistency, leaving my skin soft. This develops into a warm sun-kissed glow that is buildable for your desired shade Megan
THE BODY SHOP FOOT CREAM
I walk a lot, especially at the end of the day. When I tried this product, I felt like my feet were floating on clouds. It was like having a personal spa at home. The peppermint scent is so refreshing, and my feet felt so revitalised, I forgot they had been hurting only hours before! Ana INFUSE MY COLOUR PLATINUM WASH
As a natural brunette, the bleached ends of my hair need a lot more TLC than the rest. This platinum wash is a miracle-worker. By replacing it with my normal shampoo once a week, brassy tones have been banished and my hair feels lovely and soft after washing Amber 88

Searching for the perfect eyelashes for your special day? Marina highly recommends Agnes dos Santos extensions. After the treatment, her lashes were long and thick, whilst still looking natural
I found this mascara perfect from day to night. Even when I was out all day (and after two outfit changes), my lashes stayed thick throughout it all. Best of all, there were no clumps and I didn’t need to worry about smudging! It made my lashes look really natural and doe-like and they felt just as light. It even has a rose scent! So if you’re looking for a natural, long-lasting look — this is it Catherine
Smile, you’re getting married! IAS Academy (Intelligent Alignment Systems) describes the different options available for straightening your teeth in preparation for your big day
ClearSmile Inman Aligner
• Get your teeth wedding-ready by straightening them with The Inman Aligner, a removable appliance and the perfect solution on short notice, not to mention cost effective! • Most treatments with the Inman Aligner are completed within 6-18 weeks, so include it in your pre-wedding prep alongside fitting sessions and make up trials: This is a perfect solution if you’re a bride who’s left something a little last minute. (We won’t tell, and no one will be able to notice!)
ClearSmile Aligner
• ClearSmile Aligners gently reposition and orient the teeth to create a beautiful new smile that is perfect for the wedding album and the rest of your life. • Take a sneak peek at the final appearance of your teeth through animated 3D models and images before you make the jump with the Aligner. You’ll see a preview through ArchwizeTM simulations, so you’ll know what you’re expecting before investing 6-24 months of your time.
ClearSmile Brace
• For a less visible option that doesn’t require as much time invested into it, the ClearSmile Brace is a swift, aesthetic fixed orthodontic system that uses clear brackets and toothcoloured wires to straighten the front teeth. The swiftness of this treatment makes for a highly appealing option that can fit anyone’s lifestyle. • Treatment times vary for every patient as every individual has slightly different dental requirements. Your dentist will discuss treatment times with you when they have had a chance to have a good look at your teeth and analyse your bite thoroughly. Typically, treatment can take between 4 and 12 months. To find a Certified ClearSmile dentist located close to you, visit iasortho.com

Romantic Charm in Provence FRANCE
Discover rustic chic at La Bastide de Marie, a relaxing and inspirational place for romance, from pre-wedding to honeymoon Words by Ana Sousa

E
ntering the tranquil countryside of Provence, there are many special locations for a romantic getaway. Facing the mountain range of Luberon in Ménerbes, I find the charmingly restored 18th-century farmhouse of La Bastide de Marie. A well-kept secret, this house oozes authenticity and comfort, allowing guests to forget about the world outside. From the entrance to the living room, it is impossible to be indifferent to the environment with its fine combination of traditional and modern. Vintage furniture and antiques enhance the décor, giving a home away from home vibe. In the rooms and suites, each is designed with its own colour theme. They tell a different story though the delicate fabrics and little details, yet all express comfort and romantic harmony. Around the house, every “salut” comes served with a kind smile and attentive discretion. Serenity lives in every corner, beside the pool, in the shadow of a terrace garden tree and amongst the vineyard paths. I am visiting in autumn and the 23 hectares of vineyards look truly magical. The changing colours of the leaves create the perfect scenery for relaxation. We are sheltered inside with warmth and comfort, whilst the last sunbeams fall across the landscape. It is simply enchanting.
Wine & dine
The cuisine at La Bastide de Marie is delicious. Every week the chef prepares an innovative menu, cooked with passion and creativity. Each dish focuses on quality, using the freshest products in the region at the time of year. Not only was the gastronomy rich in flavour, it was also presented beautifully. Overall, this made the food even more appetizing.

As a famous wine-producing region, Provence boasts wines as flawless as you would expect, and La Bastide de Marie is no exception. The in-house wine, named Domaine de Marie, is made from eleven vine varieties and possesses a spicy, fruity flavour. The wine is an ideal accompaniment to salads or starters. However, if you’re opting for haute cuisine, the premium wine, Nº1, is recommended. Refined and elegant from 25-year old vines, these wines balance richness, finesse and complexity.
Pre-wedding
The surrounding area offers many options for couples getting ready to say, “I do”. Feel the fresh air on an electric bicycle ride and see the landscape up close, without a guide or time limit. On your travels, don’t miss the pretty village of Ménerbes. A beautiful stone commune built upon a rocky hill, the village is the perfect stop for a break with wine and truffle tasting. Another option is to venture to the tradition market in Gordes, where you can find lovely pieces of pottery, special condiments and spices. Here, you can also allow yourself to be seduced by the natural aroma of handmade soaps. For some décor inspiration, shop in the small town of L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, where you can find extraordinary antiques and a Sunday market. Every object tells of a different story and the market stands showcase some of the best flavours in the region. If you have time, visit the Edith Mézard shop for customisable linens and local souvenirs. Return to La Bastide de Marie at the end of the day and
DESTINATIONS You can declare your vows in any corner of the garden, surrounded by vines, olives and cypress trees.
Treat Yourself
With the house green tea, a chocolate cake, or seasonal truffle. Pair the treats with a fruity rose Marie wine
relish with a facial detox, pampering treatment, or massage at the Pure Altitude Spa. The in-house products use a selection of rare and natural ingredients from extreme environments, offering effective care for face, body and mind.
Wedding Day
A glorious venue for an intimate wedding, La Bastide de Marie is the perfect place to accommodate your guests. Spread across multiple levels, the 14 rooms allow everyone to stay in same space whilst maintaining a sense of privacy. You can declare your vows in any corner of the garden, surrounded by vines, olives and cypress trees. Alternatively, an indoor wedding at La Bastide de Marie is equally beautiful. Why not get married in the Vermentino Room with panoramic window, just a few steps from the main house? The panoramic views of the vineyard and access to the wine cellars make it an ideal location for lovers of the beverage. Saunter between the cellar and large terrace, an area enriched by the daytime sun and glistening stars at night. La Bastide de Marie is encompassed by the fragrant tones of lavender, serene beiges from the ancient stones, and purifying greenery. From sweet pastel colours to vibrant yellows, whatever your wedding theme or colour palette, it will look picturesque amongst the stunning backdrops.
Honeymoon
After a romantic wedding ceremony and reception, why not extend your stay for the honeymoon? Enjoy the sun by one of the outdoor swimming pools, or take a stroll around the vast garden. Rest on the terrace and take in the purifying breeze and gentle sound of the fountain. For more privacy on your honeymoon, stay in the Gipsy chic caravan. This nomadic abode is located in the garden and allows you to imagine a carefree lifestyle, free from modern constraints. Alternatively, at the end of the property is Villa Grenache, a house with five rooms, private terrace and heated outdoor swimming pool. It offers the same attentive hotel services as La Bastide de Marie, with the intimacy of living in your own private residence. This charming Provencal setting is the ultimate place to recharge your batteries before returning to daily life as a newly married couple.

Aquagrand An interview with
The luxury five-star resort, Aquagrand of Lindos is situated directly on the beach beside the dazzling turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea. We talk to Rebecca Diacoula from the resort to discover why it’s the perfect location for the wedding of your dreams
T
he Aquagrand is a Deluxe Spa Resort situated on a private beach. It is renowned for its unique romantic and beautiful environment and its ability to offer unrivalled individual holidays. For this reason, the hotel was continually requested by couples who dreamt of having their weddings here. Their ideas became a successful reality. We start our first meeting by showing the couple the locations the wedding areas, beach and chapel. WE THEN ASK THEM HOW THEY ENVISAGE THE DAY and how much they wish to spend. We build on this dream, and together we work to create something utterly perfect. Couples’ favourite locations for the wedding ceremony are the beautiful chapel surrounded by its own amphitheatre next to the beach and the deck, which gives the feeling of being directly in the sea. The up-to-date facilities for the ceremonies and receptions next to or on the beach offer many different possibilities for the wedding breakfast and party. IN ALL THE NUPTIALS we have overseen at Aquagrand, we have found that good organisation brings about good results. Whilst every wedding is individual, the more the couples get to know us and trust us to arrange their perfect wedding the better and more original each marriage is. To cater to each wedding in a tailored manner, our trained staff

play a huge role in the organisation of the weddings, depending on their department and the needs of each occasion. Their dedication and love for the hotel creates a positive energy, which helps us all to work together to create the dream for each unique couple. MONTHS OF BEHIND-THE-SCENES COORDINATION create the perfect wedding. From the moment the couple decide to get married, we have to book the registrar. The legalities are dealt with from England and translations here in Greece. The colour scheme and the flowers, cake, menu — the list of aspects we like to help couples with — goes on and on. For every wedding, we give our souls as if it were our own children getting married. We listen to the couple’s ideas and discuss all the options that they can have, giving them inspiration and joy on each step of the way. That’s why the number of weddings we host is not as important to us as the quality of our weddings. We are in the privileged position of being able to choose which weddings we host. If we held all the weddings that we had requests for, they would lose the magical individual touch. OUR PROCESS OF ARRANGING A PERFECT WEDDING is co-operation, communication, organisation, dedication and love for what we do. If the couple wish to leave the occasion totally in our hands, I believe that our experience allows us to create a perfect successful wedding full of optimism and joy. Although the hotel is adult only, we have a dedicated area and entrance in which children are allowed to roam. Children are not allowed in to the main areas of the hotel or into the guestrooms, however this does not stop the wedding party enjoying the landscaped gardens, beach and chapel and amphitheatre areas of the hotel.
DESTINATIONS
“ For every
wedding, we give our souls, as if it were our own children getting married ”
“ We build on this dream,
and together we work to create something utterly perfect ” THE AEGEAN SEA IS THE PERFECT BACKDROP for ceremonies here and offers rich history and Greek authenticity. We always offer the Greek traditions, such as the violin whilst the bride or groom is getting dressed, or accompanying them to the ceremony. We also often offer the traditional Greek wedding sweets, Melokouni (honey and sesame). The music, food and drink, local dancers and musicians can be brought in to give a total Greek experience. We also work alongside our chef and our inhouse Sommelier to create an individual and perfect menu to suite each couple’s tastes, accompanied by both local and foreign wines. WE HAVE AVAILABLE MANY IDEAS for the decoration of the venues, depending on each weddings concept. However, we can arrange any decoration that the couple desires. With the help of the florist and the use of the decoration from the hotel itself, we can arrange for bespoke decoration for each wedding, such as dappling the beach milieu with lanterns and candles. It transforms the space into the most magical, romantic setting. That said, I always like to tell the couple that with the backdrop of the hotel and the beauty of the location, it’s not necessary to spend huge amount of money on extra decorations; the natural beauty of the location is all they need. I ask them to trust us and their wedding will be successful and dazzling success. We’re happy to help realise your dreams.

Bliss in Bodrum TURKEY An exclusive retreat nestled where the hilly landscape meets the Aegean Sea, Il Riccio Beach House brings boutique glamour to Bodrum. lue is the colour we tend to associate with a sundrenched sky, a refreshing dip in a hotel pool, or the lapping waves of salty seas. Inevitably, it is the sapphire shades of the Aegean Sea that is the true showstopper upon arrival in Bodrum. Even the rich azure colouring of the cloudless sky looks slightly dim in comparison to the water. I am on a transfer from MilasBodrum Airport when the Aegean captivates my attention. Its presence is almost demanding, seeking admiration from all those that pass — I certainly cannot deny it. Most of the transfer is spent overlooking the sea, taking us through winding and hilly roads, before a slight descent leads us to the property’s gates. It is here that will become my home for the next few days, at Il Riccio Beach House, one of Turkey’s hidden gems, where the sea inspires every aspect.
Luxury living
A pristine white building and manicured gardens, purple bougainvillea and an enticing infinity pool, are all visible upon approach to the main entrance. Basking beneath the Mediterranean heat, Il Riccio Beach House reflects the natural beauty of its awe-striking surroundings. Overlooking virtually untouched landscapes and boasting magnificent sea views, the property is enchanting. However, despite the majestic ambience, Il Riccio’s vibe resembles more of a private home than a hotel. Greeted by the welcoming staff, it is easy to forget about the world outside as you prepare to unwind. As part of the Mytha

Hotel Anthology, Il Riccio earns its place amongst the exquisite collection of unique Mediterranean hotels. Large, spacious and airy, my suite is simply stunning. The theme maintains Il Riccio’s style, with a pristine design and hand-painted majolica tiles. A separate living room, bedroom, bathroom, terrace and balcony gives me all the space I need — and more. The suite is of course equipped with both basic and luxury amenities, the most impressive being an iPad that controls the air conditioning, lighting, and curtains. However, the most remarkable part of the suite is also perhaps the simplest. Upon opening the main door, I am greeted by a sensational view through the sliding glass doors of the encompassing landscape and picturesque waters. In fact, sitting on the balcony and witnessing the sunset soon becomes a hobby of mine. My suite is not unique when it comes to spellbinding views — each of the ten rooms boasts its own scenic picture of the water from either a balcony or terrace.

Although spectacular surroundings and unparalleled service play a large role in the hotel’s character, it is ultimately the cuisine that is the heart and soul of Il Riccio. Popular with locals and tourists alike, Il Riccio Restaurant brings the tantalising Michelin star dishes of its Italian sister venue in Anacapri to Turkey. Fusing traditional Italian specialities with local seafood cuisine, the result is truly divine. Particularly stand out dishes from my visit include tuna with couscous and cheese-filled ravioli. If you have a sweet tooth, a visit to the ‘Temptation Room’ is a must. An entire room dedicated to dessert, it can entice even those who have indulged on many of the savoury dishes (I am personally drawn to the sea salt chocolate cookies). For hotel guests, an a la carte breakfast menu is available, boasting everything from hearty Turkish breakfasts to customisable omelettes. The ambience of the restaurant maintains the casual feel emitted by the rest of the hotel. The open terraces display the picture-perfect backdrop of the scenery, perfectly

complemented by vivid blue and white décor and colourful ornaments. Freshly caught fish are displayed in counters and all dishes can be impeccably paired with fine and Turkish wines. All food is served on specially designed dishes that are also available to buy as a souvenir or keepsake memory of your trip. Lunch and dinner are both served at Il Riccio restaurant, yet we opt for the beach snacks menu and cocktails in a cabana overlooking the sea one lunchtime. Although tempted by a lighter meal, we indulge on rather hearty burgers with chips —so don’t take the word ‘snacks’ too seriously!
Getting hitched
With exquisite cuisine and ten spacious rooms to choose from, it’s no surprise that Il Riccio Beach House is a popular venue for exclusive weddings. Whether you’re after an intimate celebration with close friends and family, or a banquet affair of 250 people, the hotel and restaurant cater to all your needs. There is flexibility for your theme and desired locations, whether you decide to transform the swimming pool into a dance floor or have guests arrive to a Prosecco Ruffino or gin and tonic. Foodie couples will be in heaven sampling the wedding menu: a mouth-watering six-course affair — not counting the vast selection of canapés. Dine on a starter of grilled octopus and a main course of seared sea bass with lemon-scented mayonnaise — I can confirm they are both absolutely delicious. Among many other elements, the wedding package includes one-day complimentary accommodation for the bride and groom, next day breakfast, and a farewell cocktail before checking out.
Out & about
Il Riccio is located on the exclusive Paradise Bay in the Muğla province. On the opposite side of the Bodrum peninsula to the resort town of the same name, the hotel allows you to enjoy tranquilty in a natural landscape, whilst also being conveniently located close to the local sites. From historical landmarks to market places brimming with culture, there is plenty to explore. Upon our travels, we visit Palmarina, Turkey’s leading luxury megayacht marina. Those wanting a bite to eat or a place to lounge can sit back and watch the yachts roll in. Alternatively, shopaholics will find themselves in designer heaven as they stroll through the open-air shopping mall with 106 brands to choose from. Alternatively, a short drive or boat ride from Il Riccio’s pier can whisk you off to the coastal town of Türkbükü. Amble along the semi-circular boardwalk for shops, restaurants and beach clubs. The docks are used for sunbathing in the day and dining in the evening. Although less well-known than Bodrum, it is a favourite holiday spot for both Turkish residents and elite travellers, catering to sophisticated crowds and high-end consumers. During the summer, you may even spot a member of the rich and famous — it’s no wonder the town is referred to as the Saint-Tropez of Turkey.

Atlantis on Islands THE MALDIVES
T
he Maldives makes you imagine white, powdery beaches, crystalline turquoise waters with gardens of coral beneath the waves, and over-water bungalows. It conjures up thoughts of reclining on hammocks in the sun, drifting aimlessly above the sea, a book in your lap and a cocktail in your hand. This tropical archipelago plays host to coral islands, some in the formation of delicate rings encompassing jade lagoons. It was Charles Darwin who suggested that atolls were a stage in the process of a reef’s continuing growth around a sinking volcanic island. These tiny islands are strewn with seashells, their sand sun-kissed and often seemingly untouched. A country of isles itself, the Maldives is renowned for its undersea beauty. A diver’s paradise, its marine life is rife angelfish travelling in pairs, clownfish that burrow into anemone, and the silhouettes of turtles floating with the waves and the sun kissing their shells. Moodhu Holidays can help you find the best diving tours and excursions, taking you through the Maldives in its native form and showing you a local experience. Swim and surf over the translucent waters and bask in a live aquarium experience (moodhu.com).
A diver’s paradise
Take a dip into the Maldives’ underwater kingdom to experience the feeling of discovering a whole new world. The Huvadhu atoll is a secret gem. Far from resorts, you’ll feel like you’re watching an animated film with the display of sea creatures swimming like a choreographed dance. Some of the islands are even concave — that is to say, they aren’t attached to the sea floor; you can swim underneath them. You can swim alongside all the marine life, all without a wetsuit because the water’s already so temperate and inviting. Hanifaru Bay is a famous flocking spot for whale sharks, but is best known for its elegant reef manta rays’ feeding frenzy. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to behold. Later in the day, take a relaxing boat or surfboard out just

before sunset and just go dolphin watching. Because many islands are surrounded by see-through shallow waters, you can paddle along them and see everything below.
Your own ocean
Resorts dapple the land, but you can feel utterly at peace as each resort is its own private island. Because the islands are so small, you’ll barely notice other people around you. It’s truly an indulgent escape for your honeymoon. Fear not, intrepid travellers — you can create your own itinerary and ferry from island to island as pseudo-nomads and stay among natives in locally-run guesthouses. Spend your days traipsing the islands that are home to the world’s most gorgeous beaches. It is a paradise fringed by lofty palm trees, swaying in the gentle breeze. Paddleboard, surf, swim, boat, or simply ltounge in the rolling waves; these beaches are the heart of tranquillity. The Maldives, composed of nearly two thousand small islands peppering azure waters, isn’t entirely inhabited — some are used simply as farmland and are the perfect place for remote picnics.

Intrepid island hopping
Malé is the capital of exotic Maldives. A bustling, thriving community that offers a stark contrast to the easy-going life of the island. Malé’s skyline is dotted with buildings the colours of liquorice all-sorts. Lively markets will transport you into the authentic life of Malé, where you can spot the palace of Mulee-aage that was built for a sultan in the early 20th century. Island hopping is a must; take time to take excursions to visit communities for a glimpse of real life. Maldives, the islands of honeymoons, offers the renowned couple’s massages, to amplify the romanticism just that little bit more. Soothing music, sounds of the sea, and expert masseurs rubbing the aches and pains out of your backs makes for the perfect start to a lazy day. Relish in relaxation and spend a day lounging before having a private dinner together on a pier or the beach while the sun dips beneath the horizon and the sky is painted orange and mauve.
Undersea facilities
A new way to dine fits the theme of the Maldives: undersea. Fish both on and off the plate can be found at Ithaa, a submerged restaurant five metres beneath the sea and its wine cellar. It is the largest in the country, and dug two metres into the island’s depths. Glass walls offer a panoramic view of coral gardens and darting schools of rainbow fish. It offers a European-style menu, boasting a six-course set dinner menu. If you want to score extra points with your newlywed, you can book it privately for breakfast (conradhotels3.hilton.com). After dinner, you can go on a night-time swim alongside grey sharks and spot hammerheads in the distance. Many lagoons make for shark nurseries and anodyne baby lemon sharks can be seen while you wander over jetties.
Where to stay Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa For couples who crave genuine luxury and an award-winning culinary experience, this exclusive all-suite resort is for you. Located in the northern Alifu Atoll and set on a crescent-shaped private island, Hideaway offers seclusion at its finest. In fact, the privacy levels are the resort’s hallmark, boasting some of the largest beachfront villas in the Maldives. The honeymoon package includes a daily fruit basket, bottle of champagne and candle-lit dinner for two (hideawaybeachmaldives.com).
Glowing sea
Mudhdhoo Island is home to a beautiful beach that you and your newlywed will want to leave your footprints in at night-time. When the sun has set and the sky is indigo, the sea glows. Ostracod crustaceans make for thousands of luminescent specks dotting the waves, creating a sea of stars. When ostracods meet water, they emit light-like beacons for a couple of minutes. They create a firefly effect, a magical experience that will have you asking yourself if it’s truly real. To truly appreciate the natural beauty of the Maldives, take a scenic flight. Soar above the glittering ocean dotted with islands and coral reefs, piers just out over miles of shallow waters that stand out as cerulean against the deeper azure ocean. It will be a magical moment, seeing the islands stand out in miles and miles of water, together on your honeymoon.

Guests are transported to a luxurious Robinson Crusoe-style barefoot existence with 360-degree views of the shimmering shades of the Indian Ocean with its white waves breaking gently over the reef. The resort boasts holistic spa treatments and a myriad of water activities both above and below the surface.
The Secret Wedding Experience The first of its kind in the Maldives, the Secret Wedding Experience concept was created by Gili Lankanfushi due to growing guest requests for a luxury elopement. The team has woven together several special experiential options for couples to secretly tie the knot, surrounded by sparkling turquoise waters. They include a sacred blessing from a local Maldivian cleric, followed by a festive Bodu Beru Band singing personalised love songs, then setting sail into the sunset aboard a traditional Dhoni sailing vessel. In advance of the couple’s arrival, consultations about the perfect bespoke itinerary make the experience seamlessly organised. This leaves no arrangements to worry about once you set foot on the island. Additionally, each couple is matched with their very own Mr. or Ms. Friday, who serves as their personal assistant, friend and wedding planner to provide a calm, clear schedule for the ceremony and duration of their stay. Ms Midori Onaka Wedding Planner at Park Hyatt Tokyo, Ms Midori Onaka explains why the city and hotel are perfect for the destination wedding of your dreams
T
OKYO IS A VERY POPULAR CITY, especially as the Tokyo Olympics are coming up in 2020. It is a very iconic and unique Asian city, making it perfect for destination weddings. If you go to areas such as Asakusa, you will find traditional Japanese architecture, whilst in the city itself, there is a more contemporary style. The mixes of different characters and culture makes Tokyo a very interesting and exciting place.
PARK HYATT IS AN IDEAL WEDDING VENUE. We have two banqueting rooms that are very private and intimate: the Venetian Room and the Ballroom. We also have fine dining, the opportunity for custom-made weddings, and our very own flower artist, Mr Yuji Kobayashi. He creates such amazing flower arrangements, and the fact that we have our own flower artist is something that we’re incredibly proud of. There is everything you need in this hotel, including a beauty salon. THERE ARE SO MANY LOCATIONS that I like at the Park Hyatt, so it’s difficult to pick a favourite for weddings! If the wedding is held in the morning, the New York Grill restaurant is perfect for a photoshoot. The Peak Lounge is where you can have photos in the bamboo garden, and the hotel’s library is also a beautiful and popular spot.

In the winter, you can see Mount Fuji from the windows, and the sunset over it is absolutely stunning. TO TAILOR A WEDDING to the couple’s needs, we prefer to have a discussion with the bride and groom in person. However, this is difficult for international couples, so we usually arrange for phone calls and emails to discuss the plan. We often contact couples four months prior to the wedding, but we prefer to get in touch with international couples earlier as they may need changes to the standard process. We also offer honeymoon packages for after the wedding. The couple will get to stay in a suite room for one or two nights, depending on how large the wedding is. I FIRST STARTED MY CAREER at the Park Hyatt as a front receptionist for about two years. I then had a training course with the wedding department and I was dazzled by how beautiful the banquet room is, the gorgeous flowers and delicious food. I was also really impressed with the teamwork of the department, so I went for an interview when the job vacancy came up. I now have twelve years of experience as a wedding planner. There are many favourite moments to my job: when a bride and groom see each other for the first time on their wedding day; when the mothers see their daughters walking down the aisle; when the bride

The Beach & Wellness Festival BARBADOS Witness orange pink sunsets and glittering oceans; relax and detox at this unique Caribbean festival for an alternative hen party adventure
T
he best destinations allow you to forgo the daily routine of work, schedules, and routine to share good times and make everlasting memories with the friends who never let you down. In recent years, exotic destinations have gained popularity, replacing the pubcrawling hen dos with memorable vacations for the girls who seek real bonding experiences and proper girly pampering.
Sunset yoga
If you haven’t been to Barbados before, you’re in for a treat. With crystal clear aquamarine waters, golden sunsets and powdery white sands, you are bound to have the most magical experience. It’s here you’ll feel like a natural goddess, the sun kissing your skin and the wind running through your untamed hair. Not only does the island boast natural splendour with palm tree silhouettes against orange skies, but it’s also now host to the free-to-attend Beach and Wellness Festival.
Hen-do alternatives
It’s the perfect recipe to spice up the traditional ‘girl’s night out’ hen party weekend away. It is a fun, refreshing alternative to classic parties and offers something special for a bride who’s more into fitness or relaxation. If you and your girlfriends are looking for the ideal combo of chill time, with a side of deadly delicious cocktails and dancing, then this is the perfect island getaway. Festival go-ers have more options for when you want lively evenings after tranquil mornings. Venture to the kaleidoscopic array of food stalls, accompanied by the scents and aromas of spices and fruits. Open-air markets such as Kula Market sell locally handmade jewellery, clothing, and craft works. As you traipse the bustling streets, live music follows you everywhere, performed by local artists both wellknown and emerging. Ride a classic Bajan Bus for a little sight-seeing, then head to the lush Andromeda Botanic Gardens, a once private family garden. Steeped with romance, the Gardens are an exotic collection of plants from all around the globe, a true horticultural gem, wherein only organic practices are used. Hummingbirds flourish in this area, monkeys swing from trees later in the day, and if you have a picnic by the pond, you can watch dragonflies flutter around. The Garden’s café offers Bajan fishcakes, homemade bread, and an assortment of cakes. Here you can also enjoy some craft classes, just for that bit of tradition in your hen-do. Alternatively, you can do it with your partner to make some fun new memories if you’re visiting the island for a honeymoon.

The birthplace of rum
A by-product of Barbados’s main luxury commodity, cane sugar, it’s a definite staple at events and gathering — and believed to be a cure for many ailments. It was in 1703, when Mount Gay Rum began distilling, that the industry really took off. Even today, Barbados’s rum is considered the strongest and most refined, and is the main ingredient to some of the sweetest and spiciest beverages in the country. Rum punch is also a musthave. ith 17 years in the travel industry secured under my belt, I found myself longing to explore a new path. Around eight years ago, with my passions for travel and romance, I started to look into the wedding industry. It’s taken some time for me to settle on a branding that I’m one hundred percent satisfied with. It was only after I’d finished my education to become a wedding coordinator at Wedding Academy in Sweden that I decided to go full-steam ahead and follow my dream. Combining my love for weddings with years experience, I felt that integrating the both obvious direction and niche for my company. me to work cohesively with two of my greatest every day.
of travel was the It allows passions
FIRST AND FOREMOST, PLANNING A WEDDING is getting to know the couple, including what kind of mood, styling and atmosphere they wish to evoke on their big day. From there, I guide them through various pre-existing concepts, alongside newly formulated ideas inspired by — and a reflection of — the unique personalities and traits of each couple on their special day.
“ It is unwaveringly important that the couple feel they are involved in all aspects of the process”
Most of our local couples that want to marry abroad decide to tie the knot legally in Sweden, followed by a symbolic ceremony in the destination of their choice with friends and family. Our clients from the United Kingdom tend to follow the same pattern and, of course, we help them with the administrative information. In fact, I am arranging a wedding this year that will be hosted in both Sweden and the UK.

“ We handpick everyone we collaborate with”
FROM DECORATION TO COORDINATING, we, as planners, work behind-the-scenes to ensure that all the different partners — catering, music, and set up — will be on time and run smoothly. If any issues arise, it’s very important that we solve them before anyone even notices. We love seeing couples travel to new places and experience unseen before destinations, unrestricted to countries as a whole, but specifically hotels and venues too. It’s a great experience, too, for them to explore these locations prior to deciding where they will host their wedding, so as to grasp a feel for the place first-hand. Each year, I do roughly three weddings in Sweden and five abroad, as well as arranging around ten honeymoons. It’s really down to my couples how much or how little control they wish to have. Some clients like to do as
much as they can on their own and only seek help with a few parts, such as decoration or simply the security of having me there. It is unwaveringly important that the couple feel they are involved in all aspects of the process, so much as they desire since, it is — after all — their day. Even if it is something truly minor that couples require help with, I’ll

WHEN PLANNING YOUR WEDDING, remember to decide on your budget and stick to your plan of how you want your day to go. It should be fun to plan your wedding, not stressful! Don’t be afraid to ask your friends and families for help. We slip into the equation with ease. A lot of our couples seek help to find the perfect wedding venue that fits their budget, whilst holding true to their requests and requirements. ensure it’s taken care of. From our starting package and consulting, to arranging the whole wedding, we’ll help in whichever way they would like us to. However idiosyncratic you may wish it to be, we will do our best to accommodate and help create the most sublime and lasting memories. IN SWEDEN, my couples’ favourite destination seems to be Krägga Herrgård, an 1830’s mansion on the shore of Lake Mälaren and, of course, there’s the Swedish Archipelago or the Icehotel to the north, the latter of which had a different architect design each room. My couples also seem to be big fans of Tuscany, Italy, and for it I have grown a fondness too. There are so many places that I just love in so many different ways. There’s such an overwhelming array of vendors that many people require assistance filtering them down. Depending on style, budget and request, together with my different partners, I source the best prices and only suggest to my clients the venues I work closely with to guarantee the highest quality. Of course, if clients find

a venue on their own that we haven’t previously visited, I can help them with the logistics, but I do prefer to use my trusted locations to ensure the greatest standard for a positively perfect day. I REALLY HAVE LOVED EVERY WEDDING I’ve been a part of, although one of my favourites must be a wedding in Koh Samui, Thailand that was tragically affected by monsoon downpours. But since we had a precautionary Plan B already set in place, it was solved quickly — on the other hand, the couple were so blissfully happy and in love, neither rain nor shine could have spoiled their special day.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Ravi Bakhru
The founder of Warlock Wedding Planners, an agency based in India, discusses the beauty of destination weddings, his favourite venues, and what makes Warlock Wedding Planners stand out from the crowd
MY PASSION for event management began in teens, but it wasn’t until 1989 that I founded Warlock and started working with the flagship Entertainment Services. With its constantly growing success, I soon added Exhibitions and Hospitality to its wings. It was much later in 1991 that an existing client approached me to do his wedding, expecting unique creative ideas. I AM AN AVID TRAVELER and have always looked forward to exploring destinations that I have never been before. Even with corporate events, I have traveled all over the world, executing product launches and conferences. My expertise lies in working with unexpected challenges of a novel destination. I assimilate the geographical landscape into the décor and integrate the local talent to create unique wedding experiences.
I love nature and work around the exotic “locations, enhancing its natural beauty
”
I BELIEVE A WEDDING IS all about making unforgettable experiences and memories. I would advise couples to keep the weather in mind and consider unexplored destinations. As for the concepts, I love nature and work around the exotic locations, enhancing its natural beauty. For example, we’ve created backdrops with the ocean, focusing laser lights and highlighting the waves. In a South Indian wedding the venue was located at the riverside. Technicians were flown in with a fountain technology and using water pumps and nozzles, water from the river was put into motion to produce a beautiful, eye-catching water pattern. We relocated the stage and there stood the couple with a background of a 50 foot tall, magnificent water fountain. Indian weddings are vast and requirements are intricate. The first lesson is to plan well in advance. The weather improves the experience, so consider it well. To make a wedding standout, try an off the beaten track location. Be a trendsetter. OVERALL, MY FAVOURITE PART OF THE JOB IS working on creative ideas with a given location. This is also our forte. I take pride in my creative imagination for décor and entertainment. This art has been an experiential learning over the years. Every working day is different and every wedding poses a unique set of requirements. I may be looking at set designs for shipping to Europe, or flowers being imported from Holland. The challenge is to be extremely flexible and to deliver every fantasy. Given the detailed nature of destination weddings, we try not to exceed more than seven to ten weddings a year. INDIA IS A LAND OF VARIOUS CULTURES. Traditions and choices vary for different castes and locations. One has to be extremely sensitive and compassionate towards the traditions of the family. Some of my other favourite locations for weddings include Istanbul and

Antalya in Turkey, and the shores of Portugal. We are currently in the process of identifying venues in Tbilisi in Georgia, and Baku in Azerbaijan. These are going to be brand new experiences for couples. Our management includes identifying the perfect location based on the weather, travel time, number of guests, shipping to the event location, and many other factors. We create a customised service and I personally correspond with the client for all the details. This may involve numerous trips to the destination on behalf of the couple, thereby easing any travel burdens. Most of our production is done in house unless we require some local talent from a specific region. FIRSTLY WHEN WE MEET WITH THE COUPLE, we start by figuring out a destination. We enquire about family and friends and to what extent of travel they would prefer, as an Indian wedding is about the active participation of society. We then embark upon the pomposity of the event expected, and learn how willing the couple is to various ideas. Couples should ask for unique venues and various entertainment concepts, not just with artist, but also special effects. ONE OF MY MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS WAS at a wedding in Istanbul. On the shores of Bosphorus, we had a traditional Hindu marriage. At the end of the ritual, we had fireworks opposite the shore and a cruise ship carrying a bright ‘CONGRATULATIONS’ sign on the deck. Sky scanner tracker lights beamed in the sky
with moving rays, the guests were mesmerised. Every couple that is willing to explore and indulge provides us with an exciting challenge. As a planner, facing unexpected, abrupt emergencies is common. One has present effective solutions on the spur of the moment. One such incident was when a helicopter entry was planned for a couple. However, the authorities refused to let the operator fly the helicopter, as it was way past his flying designated hours. A new pilot had to be rushed to the site, and we ended up using the helicopter to fly the couple out of the venue at the end of the function. WHEN I’M NOT PLANNING WEDDINGS, I love to drive. My interest has led me to own two-door sports Porsche Cayman GTS. I have teamed with other sports car lovers and have a motorcade of sports cars on weekends, driving on the freeway.

Why Prenups
are Romantic
Family and matrimonial lawyers at Keystone Law, Carolyn Bottomley and Kim Marshall explain why getting a prenup can be one of the most caring things to do, alongside the more practical advantages. Protecting each other financially, no matter what, is romantic!
O
nce celebrated by the rich and famous, the prenuptial agreement, or prenup, is becoming increasingly popular. Does wanting one mean you think your marriage won’t last? No! Ensuring you are both protected in a way that is often representative of what you have built together is both loving and courageous. So, what is a prenup? A prenup is an agreement made by a couple prior to their marriage, which makes provision for the split of a couple’s assets and income in the event that their marriage ends.
Why are prenups a romantic gesture?
Regardless of whether you are planning a traditional white wedding or eloping to Las Vegas to tie the knot — entering into a prenup may offer the following benefits: • COMMUNICATION Discussing financial issues can be a difficult aspect of marriage. Dealing with this at the outset can truly strengthen a relationship and support good communication. • CERTAINTY A prenup enables you and your partner to agree how assets are to be held and managed during the marriage. For example, whether a joint account will be opened, or how property is to be held. • FREEDOM TO AGREE YOUR OWN TERMS You and your partner may have a creative plan for dividing your assets if you divorce. A prenup provides you with the freedom to agree your own terms without the court imposing a solution on you. • TRANSPARENCY Prior to entering into a prenup, you and your partner will each be required to disclose to the other, details of your income, assets and debts. Ultimately, there
166
DWHA || january / february
will be no surprises as you will both be familiar with each other’s financial positions before tying the knot. • PROTECTION If you, and/or your partner have children from a previous relationship, a prenup can ensure certain assets are reserved for them and that their inheritance rights are protected. Equally, a prenup can clarify what should happen to certain assets on your death.
What are the practical benefits? • PROTECTION OF ASSETS You and your partner may wish to “ring fence” certain assets from one another. This guarantees that funds allocated for a particular purpose will not be spent on something else. If the prenup ring fences such property, the court is less likely to award a share of that property to your partner on any future divorce. • DEBT PROTECTION If you or your partner has significant debts, either now or in the future, a prenup can be used to protect assets from being used to satisfy the debts of the other spouse. • BUSINESS PROTECTION A prenup can protect your business interests so that the business is not divided and subject to the control or involvement of your former spouse upon divorce. • CONFIDENTIALITY Nobody wants their personal matters to be made public. A detailed confidentiality clause can be included to ensure that the terms of the prenup are kept confidential. • COMPENSATION FOR LOSS OF CAREER If during the marriage, you or your partner plans to give up a potentially
PLANNING
lucrative career to care for the family, a prenup can ensure that that person is entitled to a greater share of the assets to reflect their loss of earning. It is often difficult to convince the court to award an element of “compensation” for loss of career, but provision for compensation in a prenup is likely to be upheld by the court. • MARRYING FOR MONEY CONCERNS You may have concerns that part of the reason your partner wishes to marry you is due to your wealth. It may give you peace of mind if your partner shows commitment to negotiating a prenup that leaves you both with financial provision that is fair and reasonable. • MINIMISES ACRIMONY ON DIVORCE Setting out how assets are to be divided on divorce should lead to fewer arguments. This is particularly important if you have children together. • MAY SAVE MONEY It is usually much less expensive to negotiate and draft a prenup than to litigate about the division of your finances should you later separate or divorce.
Already married?
It’s not too late to enter into a postnuptial agreement that can provide the same financial protection
What is the process?
A prenup is always tailored to the individual couple to make the whole process as friendly as possible. Discuss the prenup amongst yourselves in broad terms first. Next, a specialist solicitor can prepare an initial draft agreement based on your instructions. You and your partner can either negotiate the terms between yourselves, or they can be conducted between solicitors. Prior to signing, you will each require your own independent legal advice about the effect of the terms of the agreement.
How long do prenups take to negotiate? This can depend, but couples should allow as much time as possible. The Law Commission’s recommendations are that agreements should be entered into at least 28 days before the wedding. It is important to start the discussions well in advance to ensure sufficient time for the agreement to be negotiated, considered and signed.

Guatemala is a magical place for a wedding, with breath-taking scenery of mountains and lakes. Discover the thriving and colourful culture of the indigenous people, and the awe -inspiring monuments of the mysterious Maya civilization. Whether you are planning a small or grand event, Guatemala has it all. The venues are countless: the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala (protected by the UNESCO), the tranquility of Lake Atitlan, the inspiring beaches of the Pacif ic Coast, the breath -taking Keys of Belize, and the ancient Mayan city, Tikal. There is no country in the world like it! Guatemala captivated Diana Sciarrillo’s (head planner and founder of I Do, Guatemala) heart in such a way that she became bound to it forever. After falling in love with the country, she decided to create this exclusive destination wedding company. Orchestrating weddings of a lifetime took her company to the very top of the list. I Do, Guatemala’s passion for weddings makes them comfortable coordinating grand events and small intimate affairs. Their goal is to give clients the wedding of their dreams. All of the recommended vendors are personally hand picked by Diana Sciarrillo.
They work closely with Camino Real Antigua, both for hotel accommodation and catering services and are proud to present them as their Top Pick Nomination for 2018.

I love performing weddings, especially in Irish castles. I was in the flow of a ceremony when a ghostly voice emanated out of the wall behind me. Taken by surprise, I uttered ‘Who said that?’ At the same time the Bride’s Mother called ‘Dad? Is that you?’ The next line in my ceremony? ‘A special welcome to those who are here in spirit.’”

DESTINATIONS
The Marylebone Hotel is also a perfect place for weddings. The Courtyard is a particular favourite with its retractable roof and open fire
108 Brasserie RESTAURANT REVIEW A stylish and contemporary restaurant for all-day dining, 108 Brasserie of The Marylebone Hotel is an elegant venue for a relaxed, romantic meal with stand-out classic dishes
A
well-established London eatery without the pretentiousness, 108 Brasserie is situated in the heart of Marylebone. Nestled amongst chic boutique stores and quiet back roads, the restaurant seems distant from the hustle-and-bustle of city life, despite its convenient central location. On approach to 108 Brasserie, the terrace catches the attention of passersby. Beautifully designed, the outdoor dining area exudes a flawless charm, enhanced by vines interlaced with fairylights that climb up the white brick walls. At centre stage are the large front doors that open to an elegant, yet cosy space and impressive bar. The numerous patrons encompassing the bar area certainly depicts the restaurant’s popularity. However, round the corner, the distinct dining space is more tranquil, relaxed, and spacious for a weekday evening meal. Members of staff are attentive and friendly — nothing seems like too much trouble. Firstly, homemade bread is brought to the table to share, a delicious selection of sourdough, soda bread, and Guinness brown bread. The menu itself is varied, with mains ranging from fresh seafood dishes with mackerel or cod, to Great British favourites, including the 108 hamburger and shepherds pie. Every dish comes as a superb portion, including the small size
— although you can hardly call it small. The hearty food uses only high quality ingredients, which results in the straightforward but indulgent cuisine. The extensive wine list also provides many options for those who want to enjoy a glass of the tipple. Even the house options are of a particularly high standard. The red Pietas 2016 wine from France certainly tastes like it should be in a higher price bracket of the menu. Ideal for a delightful meal w i t h you r t ru e love, 108 Brasserie is the epitome of romance. Treat yourselves to delectable dishes in a restaurant that emits a laid-back, yet classy ambience- you deserve it.

PLANNING
From
Bachelorette to Bride
B
Are your girls looking to give your single life a send off to remember? Whether you’re after an extravagant night on the town or something a little more alternative, here are some ideas to help you get the planning started!
achelorette parties stem from the centuries old bachelor’s party, in which the groom was laid out a feast before the wedding. Hen parties weren’t so common until the 1980s, but they have always entailed ladies letting loose. Visions of feather boas, glittering disco balls, and a night out spring to mind, and it’s a perfect reason to get together with your girls and put together the winning combination of gin and giggles.
ICE QUEEN’S DREAM
Have the sleepover you’ve always dreamed of with your best friends in the breathtaking Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, an otherworldly destination in Finnish Lapland that invites you to watch the magic of the Northern Lights from your adorable glass igloos. Be adventurous and go on late night aurora hunting trips on a sleigh pulled by reindeer, huskies, or horses; traipse through Urho Kekkonen National Park where the water is so pure you can drink from the streams; glide through the sweeping scenery as you ski past the park and drink in the beauty of wintry nature, and end your frosty days with a Finnish sauna experience. This snowblanketed region is draped in the rich cultural history of the Sámi people. Most everything at this resort has been created by local craftsmen over the past 40 years (kakslauttanen.fi).
Did you know?
Hen parties are likely to have started in North Africa, the Middle East and Asia, where ‘hen’ is derived from ‘henna’
AFTERNOON L AGOON
Planning your wedding is stressful. Why not use your bachelorette party to indulge in some well deserved (and much needed) R&R? The fabled Blue Lagoon in Iceland is an oasis of relaxation and a true wonder of the world. Steam rises from milky blue waters, enclosed by snow-capped mountains. The geothermal water is this colour thanks to the silica and during summer, there’s even a hint of emerald in the water. However, the water is actually white — it’s the sunlight that colours it blue. Their sauna and steam baths, carved into lava rock, reflect the awe-inspiring landscape of the Blue Lagoon. You can also stand beneath the waterfall, which washes away your stiff muscles, along with the water. If you want to go all out on your girl’s trip, book the exclusive lounge where you’ll receive complementary bathrobes, slippers, and skincare set, and can be booked for up to twelve guests (bluelagoon.com).
BUBBLES AND BOAT RIDES
Don’t want to miss out on the cocktails but want an exotic getaway with your girls? Fly to Albufeira, Portugal, known as the gateway to the Algarve, a quaint sandy city on the coast that was once a fishing village. Now, however, it’s renowned for its glittering beaches, waterfront promenade, and vibrant nightlife. The marina glistens in the sunlight and it’s there you can go diving, watch dolphins, and head out to sea on boat trips. One of these excursions can be found through Matt’s Bar, on the main strip of candy-coloured buildings. Head out to the ocean on one of their boat parties where you’ll be drizzled sea water and the spray of champagne. A mega sound system and live DJs wait to entertain you all night long, so grab a paddle board and leap into the water. Remember your good side though, professional photographers like to capture snaps of all these memorable moments! If you need a reason to smile for the paparazzi, remember that you’ll receive two free drinks on board and one more when you return to shore for the afterparty. You can also sign up for cocktail-making classes, a bull ride, and have a personal message illuminate the screen (mattsbar.net).

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO Foreign guidelines, rules and essentials
H
ere is DWHA’s at-a-glance-style checklist for all of the required and advised documentation you’ll need for your destination wedding. We have put together details on the majority of the world’s wedding hotspots so that you’re in the know and ready to start sending out those ‘Save The Date’ cards. Here you’ll find up-to-date information tailored to each country on key areas, such as medical and vaccination advice, flight times and legal requirements. This section provides guidance on whether your marriage can take place in the country of your choice, and, importantly, whether it will be valid in British and international law. Remember, rock royalty Mick Jagger overlooked a technicality at his Hindu wedding to Jerry Hall in Bali — the union was not actually legally recognised in this country. With the help of your guide, you can start to gather all of the relevant paperwork. You may decide to employ a destination-wedding planner, who is either based here or in the country you are marrying in. A reputable planner will advise you on all the paperwork you need to ensure your marriage is legal for a one-off fee starting around £200. Other vital considerations include visa requirements and residency. Residency refers to the number of days or house you are required to reside in the country before your wedding ceremony. It can vary from no residency required, to a number of months. Residency is not to be confused with ‘waiting

With a little planning, you and your groom could soon be jetting off and enjoying the wedding of your dreams! This section should be treated as a guide, rather than definitive legal advice.
