here’s nothing better than a love story, and here at Weddings and Honeymoons, we get the opportunity to read countless love stories. Every wedding we feature is a story about where the couple met, how they got engaged and the way they celebrated their love on their wedding day. This month's issue is a Real Wedding special and we have featured seven beautiful big days (page 63) to help inspire you with your own wedding plans. Speaking of love stories, we are eagerly anticipating the return of the Netflix series Bridgerton, on the 25th March, for a second season. Head to page 22, where you will find a round-up of gowns inspired by the period drama, with empire waistlines, corsetry and puff sleeves galore! If you're hoping to be the diamond of the wedding season, find some inspiration with these dresses straight out of the Modiste.

By Georgia Round @georgia_makeupartist 1. PREPARATION IS EVERYTHING To create this beauty look, I began with Charlotte Tilbury’s Multi Miracle Glow Balm. This was left on for 10 minutes then removed with warm water, using Jo Jo Glow Pads. Next, I used a serum to hydrate the skin and give it the ultimate glow. My choice of serum is the Charlotte Tilbury Crystal Elixir. 2. NATURAL BROW Let your natural beauty shine through and enhance your features in a subtle way. I used the Glossier Brow Pen to add hairlike strokes to the brows, following the natural direction of the hair, and then set them in place with a clear brow gel from Collection. 3. EYE COLOUR Colour can be a beautiful way to enhance your eyes. You could even opt to match your bridal colour scheme. Inspired by coastal weddings, for this look I have used RÓEN Beauty’s 34

52°Cool Eyeshadow Palette. This soft blue is perfect to add to the eyes for a dreamy evening look, too. 4. MORE GLOW, LESS SHINE Every bride wants to glow, but don’t make the mistake of adding too much ‘shine’ and risk looking greasy. I use By Terry’s Hyaluronic Hydra Powder to mattify. This powder will keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. For additional coverage you could also use Charlotte Tilbury's Airbrush Flawless Setting Powder. This is a tinted powder that gives you impeccable flawless, pore-less looking skin. 5. KISSABLE LIPS To create a full looking lip, I use a lip liner such as the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Cheats. Find a colour that enhances your natural lip shade. Follow your natural lip line and fill in the whole lip for a longer lasting wear. Add a gloss over the top for a more luscious look.

By Linda Dockerty @lindaloveshair_uk 1. GET TOUSLED To get that tousled, beach wave look, add some texturising sea salt spray to damp hair before drying. I recommend Fudge Urban Sea Salt spray. You can add it at the roots to 'dirty up' the hair so it is easier to control and style. 2. HAIR PROTECTION I use Moroccanoil Perfect Defense to protect the hair from heat damage. This product is a weightless, dry aerosol that should be sprayed onto damp hair, then combed through before drying, or used on dry hair before using any heat tools. It smells great, too! 3. A FIRM HOLD Schwarzkopf Silhouette Pump Spray is a great strong-hold hairspray without any stickiness. A light spray combed through dry hair, then curled, helps the curl to stay in longer. For a longer lasting curl, roll the curl back up and pin it in place until

it has cooled down. This sets the hair nicely. 4. SMOOTH IT OUT Schwarzkopf Osis Tame Wild is a smoothing cream that gives unruly hair a smooth, shiny finish. I like to use it on dry hair, before curling. I add a tiny amount on my fingertips, run it through a section of hair, comb through and then curl. I also like to use it when braiding hair. Again, only a tiny amount on your fingertips is all that is needed to create smooth braids. 5. VA-VA-VOLUME Schwarzkopf Professional Volume Hair Powder is a great product that I couldn't do without. It's a powder product that is great for using while backcombing. Spray at the root, then backcomb and this will help the hair to stay where you want it to. Alternatively, this powder can be sprayed liberally throughout the whole of the hair, then backcombed and smoothed to add that feeling of thickness to fine hair. WEDDINGSANDHONEYMOONSMAGAZINE.COM

As your big day draws near, start planning with our simple and effective planning checklist and put aside your fear

lanning your wedding can seem daunting, but there’s no need to panic. We recommend you start by sitting down and working out what to prioritise, then break down your to-do list into a strategic wedding planning checklist. Your wedding checklist can be personalised to suit you and your partner, it’s a great way to keep everything in order and will help you keep track of your progress. Take it step-by-step and follow our lead with this guide on what to do in the months leading up to your wedding day…

18 months to go

Start jotting down a draft guest list. Consider who you want to make an appearance on your big day to help you plan the guest numbers you’ll be looking at when you select your venue.

16 months to go Set the date! Book the wedding date with your chosen venue and finalise your guest list. You might need to cut it down from your initial draft, to keep within your budget, until you reach a final number.

You’re engaged, congrats! At this stage, you don’t need to worry too much about getting everything in order. If you haven’t already, decide if you want to throw an engagement party and spend a few weeks in your happy engagement bubble.

Go about ordering and sending save the date cards, so that your nearest and dearest can secure the date in their diaries and make arrangements to ensure they can be with you on your special day, be that time off work, childcare or booking accommodation.

Start researching venues and create a list of potential settings for your big day. Set a budget early on, too. This will give you time to save and ensure the funds cover everything from the food to the flowers. It will also help keep you on track, so that you don’t overspend early on in your planning (or entirely!).

15 months to go

17 months to go It’s been a month, which means you’ve hopefully narrowed down your venue search. Visit a few venues that you’ve shortlisted to get a 48

feel for the space before you make your decision.

Let’s go shopping! Time to start the search for your dream dress. Once you’ve secured your venue and date, it’s a good idea to start dress shopping as soon as you can so you can order your dress and have enough time to make alterations. A fun activity to take part in preparation for your wedding during this month could be to book some cake tasting sessions with your partner, because what’s better than cake? Free cake, of course!

Planning

14 months to go Once you’ve got your dress checked off, you should think about shopping for the rest of the bridal party. Bridesmaid dresses often need to be ordered, so getting them sorted early on will save you feeling stressed as the day draws ever closer. You’ll probably want your bridesmaids gowns to echo or be in keeping with your own, so make sure you choose your dress first and then hit the shops with your best girls in search of outfits that they will all adore.

13 months to go Select your photographer, caterers, any musicians you want to perform on the day (including musicians that will play during your ceremony and a live band that may perform in the evening), and any other suppliers that will be with you on the wedding day itself. These suppliers’ diaries are likely to get booked up quickly as they can only attend one wedding on any given date, unlike your florist or cake maker who may be able to deliver to more than one wedding in a day.

12 months to go This is an important stage, and the time for you to seriously get the ball rolling, it could go one of two ways now, so make sure it goes the right way as you keep on top of your planning and preparations. Start looking at the varieties of flowers that will be in season when you get married. Choosing flowers that are in season is more friendly on your wallet as well as being a more eco-conscious choice. Try to find and secure your florist this month.

10 months to go Now that you’re eight months into planning, your wedding is probably starting to take shape. Head out with the boys to find their wedding attire - from suits to shoes and bow ties to braces, decide if you will be hiring or buying the suits and find a style everyone feels comfortable in. Look into some unique keepsake ideas for you to save from your wedding day, take our Editor-In-Chief, Becci Clubb’s, wedding for example, featured in our September 2021 issue, she hired a live painter to capture the special day.

9 months to go At this stage, all of your key suppliers should be booked for your wedding. Narrow down your menu choices for your catering and confirm the finer details with your cake maker and florist. With all those pictures on your Pinterest board, you should know by now exactly what style of cake or bouquet you’re after. If required, you should have come up with a couple of beauty looks and booked both a makeup artist and a hair stylist.

8 months to go Now would be a good idea to send your wedding invites, so your guests have enough time to make arrangements and time for you to get your RSVPs sent back. Get any alterations arranged for your dress and your bridesmaids’ dresses. Make sure that the suits are also ordered and if the groomsmen need any alterations, take care of this now, too.

7 months to go If you need to, book dance lessons for your first dance and practice the choreography in the weeks leading up to the day. Head out with your photographer for an engagement shoot and get

11 months to go You’re probably starting feel a little pressure at this point and you might feel like the bridezilla you never dreamed you would be! Don’t stress, it could be a good time to hire a wedding planner, if you haven’t already, they can help to take some pressure off you. Pro tip: Start a wedding Pinterest board, this is a great tool to keep all your ideas in one place. Decide on a specific theme and colour palette to make it easier for your wedding planner to work alongside you and your partner.

2 months to go If you are marrying in a church, attend a wedding rehearsal to get a feel for your day. Start breaking in your wedding shoes; nobody wants to have blisters on their wedding day!

1 month to go Now that there’s only a month to go, you should only be doing finishing touches, such as a hair colour top-up, a haircut, a manicure and pedicure, or perhaps even a facial.

1 month later

This is also a great time to order your wedding favours, source any decorations and fine-tune the little details for the day.

Phew! You’ve done it. All that planning and preparation was well worth it. Now is a good time to send out your thank you cards, and start to enjoy your new life as a married couple! WH

Start thinking about your honeymoon, are you planning to go somewhere exotic? A coastal destination or a city break? Narrow down your choices so you can book it and start packing and looking forward to newly-married bliss.

5 months to go At this stage you should be feeling a bit more relaxed about your planning. It’s a great time to ensure you’re on track. This month, ask your friends to plan your hen and stag parties or start organising them yourselves if that’s what you’d prefer. Organise the wedding transport for the wedding party and now that your dress is altered, you can buy your wedding shoes and accessories.

4 months to go Send a list of photographs you’d like to have to your photographer, and confirm timings with all of your suppliers. As an extra task during this time, you could research nearby accommodation for wedding guests if the venue is somewhere unfamiliar to them.

3 months to go Follow up on your RSVP’s and confirm your final numbers, food choices and any allergies with your venue and caterers. 50

We both love the outdoors and liked the idea of getting married in an open-air, rustic setting that would give us more possibilities to decorate than a traditional venue.” “As soon as we visited Askham Hall we knew it was the one – the barn is gorgeous and so are the grounds and gardens. Our families could stay the night before and the night of the wedding, which meant we could decorate together beforehand. There was a barn for the reception and a smaller barn for a more intimate drinks reception after the ceremony.”

THE BIG DAY Bride Allie was pampered by hair stylist Emma Jewell and makeup artist Alice Stephens on her wedding morning, before slipping into her Enzoani dress. “I felt strangely calm getting ready, I loved having my hair and makeup done. It wasn’t until I got into my dress that time seemed to fly and I realised I’d soon be making my vows in front of everyone,” she laughs. “The ceremony was incredible because we wrote our own vows. I thought I’d be nervous, but as soon as I got to the end of the aisle and saw Richie, it felt like it was only the two of us there.” The couple tied the knot outside on a beautiful blue sky day. Allie walked down the aisle to an acoustic rendition of ‘A Thousand Years’ performed live, with the same guitarist and singer lending a laid-back vibe to their drinks reception afterwards.

PARTY TIME! After a quick wardrobe change into an embellished dress for Allie, the newlyweds shared their first dance to ‘Forever Young’, performed by the bride’s mum’s partner. “We both love Ibiza, so we booked a DJ and saxophonist for the evening party. They were amazing and the sax player really brought the music to life and made everyone want to dance. So many guests commented they had never seen a dance floor so full,” Allie reminisces. PINK & PAMPAS The couple styled their barn setting in dusky pink and mauve tones. “We added lots of pampas grass flowerheads and candles and our amazing family made many of the decorations. My grandpa sanded antique ladders for our table plan, while my step mum flavoured gin with homegrown rhubarb for our favours,” the bride smiles. HONEYMOON HOMESTAY Allie and Richie had initially set their sights on Switzerland for their honeymoon being keen hikers, but a change of plans led to them choosing Snowdonia instead. “The weather was fantastic, we swam in secret waterfalls and hiked up Mount Snowdon. We stayed in a log cabin with a hot tub, perfect for relaxing in with a glass of fizz.” WH

“One of my bridesmaids travelled all the way from Reunion Island to celebrate with us”

MAKING MEMORIES After Ashley proposed to Emma with a stunning platinum ring, complete with an emerald cut in the centre and tapered baguettes to either side, this glamorous couple set the date for their UK wedding in March. “We chose the date because we knew Ash would be in the UK then, because it falls between the Caribbean and Mediterranean super yacht seasons,” Emma explains. “Because Ash is at sea for months at a time, visiting venues together was a challenge. I’d played lacrosse at Westonbirt School as a teenager, and as a couple we’d attended many antiques fairs there and loved the way it reminded us of bygone eras. Our emotions told us this was the venue.” “We decorated in a classic English theme to bring out the best of the venue, with peach and coral tones, calligraphy overlaid on glass, lace details and old books.” AISLE STYLE For Emma, the search to find her dream dress only ever had one contender: “I’d fallen in love with Rosa Clara designs in wedding magazines, and the ‘Abril’ design in particular. I found several stockists near London and ONE1 Bridal were the friendliest. My parents and sister came with me, nothing else compared to the dress I’d chosen and I ordered it there and then! Wearing my dress was the most magical, feminine moment of my life.” Emma added LK Bennett stiletto heels for the daytime, swapping to Rainbow Club shoes during the evening for comfort.

TAKE A VOW “The moment we exchanged rings and looked at each other was the best moment of the day. Our photographer captured it perfectly and the look in our eyes says it all,” gushes the bride. “Right after the ceremony we had canapes and Champagne waiting for us in a private room so we could have a moment for the two of us to take in what had just happened.” A string quartet created a relaxed atmosphere during the daytime, playing a repertoire of modern songs, before the couple took to the dance floor for their first dance to ‘Say a Little Prayer for You’, chosen by the groom. GOURMET GATHERING From Champagne served with a macaron on arrival, to lollipops on the tables, woodfired pizzas prepared in under a minute and a stunningly ornate cake with coconut and lime, raspberry ripple and coffee tiers, all coated in white chocolate ganache, guests were in for a foodie treat at Emma and Ashley’s wedding. Easy-Going Extravagance FINDING THE ONE The search for her dream dress came with a learning curve for this bride. “I approached the search with an idea of what I wanted, something 70s-inspired, but as I tried on styles that fit the bill, it just felt like something I’d normally wear and not really special. I ended up trying on a Mikado ballgown and while that wasn’t the dress for me, it was the fabric, and helped me find my dream dress – an A-line style with three-quarter-length sleeves and a boat neckline.” Abigail also opted for a second dress for her evening reception, a beautiful floral, embroidered, backless design. “We didn’t want everything to look too uniform, so my bridesmaids had different colour dresses and the groomsmen didn’t wear matching suits. We wanted everyone to feel comfortable, so we gently guided their choices, but didn’t dictate.” MAKING HISTORY Finding the setting for their ceremony was an easy choice for this couple. “Marcus grew up in Nottingham, so he’d visited

SET THE SCENE The perfect photograph – for Marie and Jean Baptiste, it was just one photo that set their wedding plans in motion. “I’d been browsing venues on Instagram and one day, I saw the photo,” recalls Marie. “It was of a single table surrounded by trees and lights – simple, elegant, natural and just like a fairytale. It was posted by a wedding planner, Lovestory Events Italy, and as we were planning an Italian wedding from Paris, we decided to enlist their help!” Jean Baptiste and Marie set their hearts on Villa II Poggiale for their celebration. “It’s an amazing venue – traditional, warm, beautiful. The food was amazing too,” the couple grin.

“We booked our wedding venue without visiting it and it was the best decision we made!”

THE DRESS Bride Marie credits her dress and floral crown for making her feel every bit the bride on the big day. “I found the one easily,” reveals the bride, “on a visit to Pronovias’ boutique with my mum. I tried on five dresses in total and my dress was perfect: simple, a little bit bohemian and flattering for my figure. After making the decision, I did start to worry seeing lots more dresses on Instagram, but I know I made the right choice. I felt beautiful.” Jean Baptiste looked sophisticated in a tailor-made suit with Dior shoes, and the bridesmaids stunned in multiway styles in a matching blush colourway. LOVE SONG Music played an important role in this couple’s

“Our wedding planner meant we could have the wedding of our dreams”

wedding, with the same band playing during the ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner for the newlyweds and their guests. The bridesmaids danced down the aisle to the upbeat tune of Maroon 5’s ‘Sugar’ and the newlyweds exited together to ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz. But the biggest musical surprise came during the vows, as bride Marie tells us: “My husband wrote a song to perform to me at the moment we exchanged our vows and at the end, his friends came to join him to sing too. It was a dream.” A dreamy pampas grass-adorned wooden arch framed the couple’s ceremony, with an equally natural and bohemian style lent to the reception tables, which were filled with olive branches, roses, lisianthus and eucalyptus. HONEYMOON HEAVEN After tying the knot in the surrounds of Florence, Italy, the couple jetted off once more for a luxury honeymoon in Bora Bora before returning to Paris. Their verdict? “It was the best place on Earth!” they laugh. WH

shopping without her,” explains Alessia. “I’d looked at some styles in London with an industry friend but I couldn’t find a style I particularly liked. So, when I half-jokingly asked my friend and fashion designer Angelique Jacquemin if she might design one for me, I was so happy when she said yes!” The bride stunned in a gown that complemented their relaxed yet elegant theme effortlessly, with a Giupure lace bodice and linen skirt, designed and made exclusively in France. The groom looked equally stylish in a Paul Smith ensemble, and bridesmaids joined Alessia in gorgeous linen gowns in complementary tones of green. ECO-CONCIOUS STYLING “Our venue was full of character, so we didn’t need too many decorations. We added flowers and plants to style the space – I was adamant I didn’t want single-use decorations and plastic everywhere. Nature makes the best decorations.” A stunning arch, adorned with berries, crab apples and pomegranate branches, as well as arrangements of café au lait dahlias, lavender, gaura, eucalyptus, roses and lisianthus added whimsy, echoed by the olive and lemon trees. Season’s Greetings SETTING THE DATE Self-confessed horror movie fans, Roksana and Luke had no problem setting their wedding date: “There were only a few dates available and the 31st October, Halloween, was one of them. It stood out to us, we were surprised no one had taken it. We both love Halloween and autumn is a beautiful season, so the choice was simple.” The couple invited 34 guests to join them for their celebrations, keeping the day intimate and personal. “Our venue had 14 bedrooms in the main house, it was important to us to be able to accommodate everyone as they had travelled from all over the place to be with us.” SECOND TIME LUCKY For bride Roksana, it took only two bridal boutiques to find the dress of her dreams. “I’m not keen on shopping so I was happy to find my dress in the second shop we visited. I originally thought I’d love a dress with long lace sleeves, very traditional. But then I tried on the opposite to what I thought I wanted, and I knew it was the one. The dress felt light, simple, sexy – it was ivory blush, an unusual and beautiful shade,” Roksana remarks. Bridesmaids complemented the bride in

different styles and shades of pink dresses. Groom Luke opted for a brown three-piece suit, which the groomsmen’s attire also echoed. THE I DOS “For me, our ceremony was the best part of the day,” grins the bride. “My bridesmaids were smiling, my dad emotional, the sun shining through the windows and there was my husband in front of me, looking adorably nervous and so happy to see me. We looked at each other intensely and couldn’t stop smiling!”

“St Ethelburga’s was a hidden gem”

LOVE IN LONDON While the capital city isn’t home to either bride or groom, London did have a place in their hearts – we’ll let Hannah and David tell you why: “I’d studied in the city for several months and David’s father was a Londoner, so he’d made regular visits. On our first date, London was our first topic of conversation, so it felt like the perfect fit. I loved the idea of a ceremony and afternoon tea in a historic chapel and then dinner in a pub, so we booked The Admiralty in Trafalgar Square.” “Getting married in the city meant each time we changed location, people congratulated us. It was touching and added to the celebratory feel of the day,” the bride smiles. DESTINATION DREAM “I was studying for a PHD at the time,” explains bride Hannah, “so we picked the summer break to get married so that our wedding and honeymoon wouldn’t be rushed. It also opened the doors to a destination wedding in London, as the weather would be better in summer, and we booked a cruise for our honeymoon to embark a few days after the big one. One of the great things about an overseas wedding is you’re not tied to a weekend wedding, your guests are already travelling, which meant our budget could go further on the venue.” On the day, 10 guests joined the couple, with another 500 logging in to watch the live stream! WEDDING WARDROBE Bride Hannah waited for her mum’s next visit to her home in Dallas to begin the search to find her dress.

“The day after Christmas, we went out just the two of us to look for both of our dresses. I wanted to buy one that was off-the-peg, but I wasn’t set on a style or fabric. The gorgeous lace detailing, fitted silhouette and sweeping train gave me a 1940s vibe in the dress I chose and the seamstress added a bustle so I could pin up the train to make it easier to move around. No other dress fitted a London wedding so well.” ENGLISH FAIRYTALE Florist Joanne Truby styled the couple’s chapel venue with armfuls of blooms. “She created the atmosphere of an English garden with her floral pieces, it transformed St Etherlburga’s,” the bride reminisces. “The scent of the arrangements as I entered the venue on the day and saw David at the top of the aisle, just as Pachelbel’s ‘Canon in D’ swelled in the background, was an amazing moment.” “I also loved the pieces we hired from Classic Crockery, they were exactly what I wanted for afternoon tea, which was served flawlessly by Fat Macy’s and Cake Me Up!”

iven our location, tequila is an important spirit that is widely celebrated and consumed in many different ways. From the start of BHR’s wedding venue, we've asked all guests to bring a bottle of tequila for the “Rub a Little, Drink a Little Bar”. But, we also tell them their contribution can be fully consumed by themselves or their guests.

But beyond the donkey, here are some tequila ideas for your wedding event in any place in the world:

So why so much fuss over tequila? Everyone knows it is a Mexican spirit that dates back to the Aztecs. It comes from the agave plant in a region that is now known as Tequila Jalisco. And technically, all tequilas are Mezcals, but not all Mezcals are tequilas. Like Blame Her Ranch, which is familyowned and operated, the Cuervo family began distilling tequila in 1758 with the popular margarita invented in 1936. Like Champagne in France, the Mexican government moved to take ownership of the term tequila which ensures the name tequila must come from only certain areas in Mexico. While its origins are rural and rustic, some of the world’s best tequilas or mezcal sell for well over $2,000 a bottle and we get all kinds of varieties that are ideal for mixed drinks, shots and late-night sipping. For weddings, true tequila lovers enjoy taking advantage of our local tequila donkey who strolls around the property serving tequila shots from his saddle.

1. Seal the deal with a “first shot” Unity Ceremony. Hand out festive tequila shots at the end of the ceremony. 2. Entering the building, we were greeted with an invigorating citrus fragrance that filled the reception area, signalling that our chic city break was about to begin. After a swift and friendly check-in, we were shown to our room, which was beautifully decorated with plush furnishings, local artworks and elegant wallpapers, echoing the rest of the building. Our room was the perfect place to wind down after exploring all that Richmond has to offer. The snuggly bath robes and slippers, White Company toiletries and complimentary gin and sherry are just a few of the luxuries we sampled in our room. Closed for refurbishment during our stay, the hotels newly appointed HarSPA & Club is now open, with an indoor pool, Scandinavian hot tub, treatment rooms and gym. Tucked away in the hills of Vence, Château Saint-Martin feels a million miles away from civilisation when in fact, the scenic postcard village of St Paul is just a 10-minute drive, and Vence even closer. We arrive to the warmest of welcomes – a hint of lavender and pine in the air – and are shown to our room, a beautifully light and spacious suite with parquet floors and a luxurious sunken bath. Throughout our stay, we spend much of our time relaxing on the south-facing balcony – after all, what could be more soothing than being lulled by birdsong as you sip on an exceedingly good bottle of Châteauneuf du Pape on a balmy evening? The intimate Michelin-starred restaurant and spacious patio bar are the heart of the hotel. Dinner can be served inside or out on the terrace with panoramic views that stretch towards Nice. In

the Summer, the hotel’s rustic dining space L’Oliveraie opens for wood-fired pizzas and barbecue. It was closed during our stay, but if the food was anything like what we had experienced in Le Saint-Martin, I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to chow down on fresh grilled fish and zesty salads amongst the olive and lemon trees. Breakfast is also something of a fine art here and is best enjoyed on your balcony at least once during your stay. It’s not just the culinary choices that leave us feeling spoilt for choice. Alongside romantic walks in the grounds and dips in the pool, there are so many other ways to pass the time. Ease yourself in with a signature couple’s treatment in the La Prairie spa – you can even enjoy a massage beneath the hotel’s jasmine-clad pergola as you soak up more of those #nofilter views and let the memories sink in. Plan B…

Without question, the single biggest mistake couples make when planning their wedding is to not have a Plan B. Why would you shell out tens of thousands of pounds without knowing exactly and precisely what to do when “mother nature” or other events can affect your wedding plans? All good wedding planners should provide you with a Plan B or you have the wrong wedding planner. This is especially true if you are planning an outdoor wedding where the weather can become an issue. Obviously, this is especially important when picking a venue and if you plan to have your ceremony or banquet outside. Here at Blame Her Ranch, we created two Plan B options that don’t cost the couple any extra money and are well coordinated through our Site Manager, Randy the Ranch Hand. Obviously, with all Plan B’s, they are not as good as Plan A… hence the name. But at BHR, they are pretty good as you can move your ceremony and banquet from our Cliffside Ceremony area and Great Lawn into the Cowboy Chic Knotty Pine Barn or Great Room Lodge. With any Plan B, you will also need to decide when is the last minute you can pull the trigger so you don’t jump to Plan B prematurely. Many times, and with today’s technology, you can follow the progression of inclement weather and get the short ceremony completed within 20 minutes between storms. The banquet at BHR is a bit trickier as the couple and Randy the Ranch Hand need to evaluate a three-hour like window and shift to the barn or main lodge based on what weather may be coming and for how long. But, if your venue does not have an indoor option or won’t allow you to move to an indoor facility, you are taking an enormous chance and putting a “damper” on your special day. Beyond Plan B for weather-related issues, it is just as important, especially in this pandemic world, to think through some of the 136

other factors you or your Planner may need to address. For instance: 1. Elderly accidents. People trip and fall at weddings all the time. What is the protocol and what steps will you take should you face an unfortunate incident? 2. Government Covid regulations. While we all hope for improved conditions, every District, State or Country is constantly updating protocols. Know now if you are going to require all guests to be vaccinated, wear masks, or even quarantine before your event. It doesn’t mean you have to do them if they are not required, just be ready for the “what ifs”. 3. Moving your date. Like most venues, BHR has a firm no cancellation policy. But during Covid’s early days, we tried to work with all of our guests who were forced to postpone to find another date later in the year or the following year. We also face guests who've had major catastrophes like an accident or military personnel being transferred. Under these special circumstances, we try to rent the ranch to someone else which allows us to refund deposits of those who have been dealt a bad hand. Here at BHR, which is privately owned, we take a much more customer-focused approach for Plan B planning. Not being a corporation, resort or B&B, we can be more flexible and sympathetic when things arise. But Plan B’s are not limited just to your venue so make sure you know what those would be for your other supplier.
