ear blushing brides,
I am proud and honoured to be stepping into the romancefilled avenue of Destination Weddings & Honeymoons Abroad as Editor-in-Chief. Much like a marriage, I’m excited by the journey that lies ahead. Not only am I lucky enough to edit Europe’s number one Destination Weddings magazine but I’m tremendously fortunate to work with a great team of wonderful designers and some of the most talented fashion and travel writers in the world. I find their dedication and passion incredibly inspiring! As we move towards the welcoming arms of summer the team have put together something truly spectacular. This issue captures the sweet amor of reallife weddings and the beauty of honeymooning in some magnificent destinations including the Maldives, Indonesia and the South of France. From colour palettes, to flourishing flowers, to glamorous gowns — our inspirational collection of fashion and beauty tips will most certainly make you sparkle on your special day. We also bring you (my favourite) runway fashion statements from Georges Chakra, simply seductive lingerie and an unparalleled beauty regime — all bases covered then! We are often told that couples love to use our magazine as their go-to source for discovery and planning, and this issue definitely delivers on all pre-wedding fronts. With our Know Before You Go section you won’t be caught short on the documentation! Enjoy the journey ahead and I would love (no pun intended) to hear from you via our Facebook or Twitter page. Alternatively, why not contact us directly and speak with one of our friendly editors! They, like I, would be delighted to hear from you.

Park Hotel & SPA Cala di Lepre
HONEYMOON INSPIRATION Experience adventure, luxury and rejuvenation at this stunning resort on the North East coast of Sardinia
S
ituated on an enchantingly unique stretch of Sardinian coastline is the glorious Park Hotel & SPA Cala di Lepre, part of the wellestablished Delphina Hotels & Resorts collection. An ideal choice for couples looking for both an energising and revitalising stay, the hotel offers panoramic seascapes and luxury service within picturesque parkland. Lovers of the outdoors will relish in the luscious location, rich in scented herbs and wildlife, including tortoises, red grouse and the infamous hares (Lepre). Follow charming trails through the Maquis shrubland and granite rocks, keeping an eye out for the local landmark — Roccia dell’Orso (Bear Rock) — before stopping off at one of the many wind-sculpted coves for a refreshing swim.
Sun, sea and sand A prominent element to Park Hotel & SPA Cala di Lepre is its close proximity to water. For couples that desire complete relaxation, head to either the hotel’s sandy beach, sea-water pool, or on the wooden shore-side sun-deck.
Alternatively, with the beach of Palau and the Gulf of Arzachena close by, guests additionally have the opportunity to experience Northern Sardinia by land or boat. A multitude of excursions are available for adventureseekers, including boat trips to Corsica, dolphin-watching and local tours of evening markets and ancient villages.
Mouth-watering cuisine Eating exquisite dishes paired with sumptuous beverages is a fundamental part of the Sardinian holiday experience. The restaurants at Park Hotel & SPA Cala di Lepre assist with this by presenting both the flavours of traditional Sardinian cuisine and the authenticity of using local ingredients. We recommend paying a visit to the hotel’s panoramic restaurant, Le Terrazze. The restaurant oozes a truly romantic ambience where both you and your partner can enjoy impeccable dishes in the impressive candlelit setting (hotelcaladilepre.com).

REAL LIFE WEDDING IN ARIZONA
Traditional beauty
We wanted a
springtime outdoor wedding and Arizona was one of our best bets for weather at that time of year. We also wanted to get married in a place that had meaning to us. We were inspired after a trip to Italy so we decided on the Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club which is a Tuscan-style venue in the community where Jordan’s parents live. We loved this destination also because we know we’ll be coming back there to visit a lot. We love the backdrop of Superstition Mountain and since Jordan is fairly superstitious, the name was quite fitting. Our venue was decorated in a Tuscan-style theme with colours of dusty blue and rose. For seating arrangements, we tied names to a piece of bread at each table place. Jared and I love having bread before meals at restaurants so we wanted that touch to be there as well as making the table setting beautiful yet functional. We made an effort to keep the costs down by only spending money where it was most meaningful for our guests and us. We wanted our guests to feel very welcomed and to have a great time, so we made sure they were taken care of through great food, plenty of drinks and a great energy on the dancefloor. People still talk about how amazing it was! I got my dress from Posh Bridal in my hometown when I was visiting over the summer. I wanted an open back dress but all the backless ones I tried on didn’t seem to fit me, or the venue. Even though it was slightly outside of my price range, I tried it on anyway and loved it. While I went to one more shop, I came back the very next day to try it on again. It was then I noticed the two J-looking lace near the top of the back and started to cry thinking it symbolized our “J and J” initials. My hair and beauty looks were chosen to complement my dress, matching the romantic, timeless vibe. Our colour palette was inspired by a sunset. Jared and I were walking where we live in Newport Beach, California and there was a beautiful pastel-coloured sunset. I mentioned how awesome it would be to do a colour palette like that sunset so we went for it — dusty blues, peaches, and light pinks/dusty rose! Our guests stayed between three places. It was very easy to organize and the hotels were incredibly accommodating. One even offered a free shuttle and dropped guests off staying nearby the hotel in rental homes. We wanted them to feel welcomed even when they got to their hotel, so we had little “Arizona Survival Kits” waiting for them.

REAL LIFE WEDDING IN MICHIGAN
Traditional beauty
Our ceremony venue
was our family’s private residence. There was a lot of significance to having our wedding in a place that was close to our hearts. After visiting the Royal Park Hotel, our reception venue was an easy pick. They have exceptional service, exquisite accommodations and some of the best dining we have ever had. Our first step was to hire a wedding planner and that’s where Nicola Wilson and her team at Simply Brilliant Events came in. She guided us along with all the vendors, contracts and even gave us advice on where and when to spend our money, based on what was important to us. I truly believe she saved us a lot of money and time just by having her every step of the way. It’s easy to get caught up in the wedding industry when you’re a bride, so she kept us focused on what was important. My dress was one of the first gowns I tried on but I wasn’t sure of it at first. I shopped around and spent another two days trying on every wedding dress in Michigan. In the end, the reason why I chose this specific dress is because it had all the qualities I was looking for: romantic and traditional, yet sexy. It has a little lace, not too full of a skirt and hand beaded stones and sequins. When I found out that the skirt was made of horsehair, I knew that it was perfect for me. I’m a horse girl so the dress felt like it was made for me! It fit my personality perfectly and was so flattering on my figure. I felt so magical every time I put it on. As I wanted to still look like myself, my makeup was a glamorous version of my everyday style. In my eyes, the biggest challenge was the vendors. For a first time bride, the wedding industry is a new place and you don’t have any connections or contacts. Since you don’t get a trial, it’s all based on reviews, research and gut!
Megan’s top tip is to hire a wedding planner. Weddings take lots of energy, and having someone to handle the details means that there is more for you to enjoy, while still keeping up with your normal routine

REAL LIFE WEDDING IN CANADA
Traditional beauty
We decided on
Canada as the destination for our wedding because it was a place that many of our guests could easily travel to. It was location and budget that were the biggest factors in deciding on the particular venue. We actually managed to save a lot of cash by being able to bring in our own vendors and alcohol. We are also lucky enough to have a good friend who is a wedding planner and because of her expertise, we were able to save in many areas of the wedding, including florals and décor. We left all the décor decisions up to her. She carried the design from the invites to the decoration, and it all turned out beautifully. It’s quite true what they say — I didn’t choose the dress, the dress chose me! I realised quite early on that I wanted a ball gown. However, I hadn’t planned for a black and white dress, but it just felt right when I tried it on. Later, the bow was added and I just love the final outcome! Since the dress was of a classic design, I wanted my hairstyle to be the same. I also wanted to feel like myself and I don’t usually wear a lot of makeup, so I opted for a more natural look. To finish, my jewellery was simple and elegant. Our guests stayed in a nearby hotel, with family, or at their own homes. We contacted a hotel in advance and arranged for a fixed rate if the guests booked by a specific deadline. Overall the process of organising the wedding was simple. However, our biggest challenge was obtaining an alcohol permit for our champagne as it was purchased from France as a gift! Our top tips for anyone organising a wedding is to hire a planner. Also, have a rain plan, especially if your destination is susceptible to some bad weather!

REAL LIFE WEDDING IN ITALY Alethiea recommends investing in a wedding planner from the region that caters to foreigners. This is because they are most likely to be more in tune with the level of service you are accustomed to
Traditional beauty
We chose to
get married in Italy mainly because we were guaranteed the weather. I am part Italian and knew that I’d be able to find the style of venue and architecture that I love. We initially searched for venues in Tuscany and Liguria as that’s where home is for me, however I stumbled across this venue on a blog and fell in love with the crumbling stone, beautiful cloisters and gardens. It was much further north, in Lombardy, but we decided to fly out and take a look at the venue and area. One of the bonuses was that a lot of their own decorative pieces already fit with our theme and colour palette. We fell in love straight away. I had apprehensions about my gown. I knew a lot of the styles I liked wouldn’t be best suited to my petite and curvy body type. I have worked with Sophie from Coco & Kate Atelier a few times and always fall in love with her dresses. As soon as I walked in, I spotted my dress. It was the first I tried on and was different to what I had anticipated I would want. I really liked the fact that I went alone. It made the decision seem so easy. Having a makeup and hair trial were definitely one of the best decisions I made. Many of the styles that I was certain I loved just didn’t suit me in reality. We tried a few different looks and I simply chose what I felt most comfortable with. My husband was very relaxed about most things but his one criteria for the wedding was that he wanted to be able to recognise me. I also didn’t want to feel caked in makeup in such high temperatures too, so I went with a fairly natural look with a slightly smokey eye. One of the challenges of organising a destination wedding was that Italian suppliers have a slightly different way of working to their British counterparts. They are a lot more ‘relaxed’ and we found it quite stressful at times. We are used to dealing with people who are very much about the experience as opposed to just the service and we found this a bit frustrating. We luckily flew in a number of our suppliers like our brilliant photographer and floral stylist. The extra expense of doing so was worth it as they were just so helpful and patient. The gorgeous Italian weather was perfect for a relaxed, outdoor wedding

REAL LIFE WEDDING IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
A tropical
adventure
Gen and TJ tied the knot at a glorious beachfront location in the stunning town of Cabarete Photography by Katya Nova
www.dwha.co.uk
59
Gen’s advice
Try to not let what other people say get in the way of your wedding. Just take a step back, and remember it’s about you and your fiancé
The couple chose dusty rose and persimmon for their colour scheme to match the tropical locale
TJ’s proposal
I gently slipped the ring on Gen’s finger while she was still sleeping. When she woke up and asked what I wanted to do, I replied that I wanted to go on a hike and be engaged to her. We hiked to one of our favorite local spots and that’s where I did the official proposal
TJ’s advice
Go the extra mile for yourselves even though it might cost a little extra or require a little more planning. Also, don’t take yourselves too seriously. Plan for what you can, but remember to embrace the chaos!

REAL LIFE WEDDING IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Traditional beauty
It was only natural that our wedding
Contact 4TW: Dominican Wedding Planner (dominicanweddingplanner.com) to create your own off-resort fairy tale in the Dominican Republic
would be one of our trips. We couldn’t imagine our wedding any other way. TJ’s main thing was that our ceremony would be small, and intimate, and of course that he could surf that morning. We wanted our wedding to reflect where we would stay if it were just us, but when we were trying to pick the “perfect spot”, we had to keep in mind that it had to be somewhere we could convince our parents to go. TJ had never been to the Caribbean, and we’ve heard amazing things about the Dominican Republic. I’m so thrilled with how things worked out, our venue couldn’t have been any more perfect. Richard Weber was the best wedding planner, he even surprised us at the airport by putting decals of our names on our rent-a-car! Everything was taken care of, and he made sure everything went smoothly. When I was upset about some people not being able to make it, he said, “Whoever is supposed to be there, will be there.” I instantly felt better. Having a wedding planner who will be your advocate first, is huge, and he was throughout it all. It was amazing being able to spend a week in paradise with some of the most important people in our lives. Cabarete was perfect as our families felt safe, but it was still a little rough around the edges. A memorable moment was road tripping in the Dominican Republic with TJ after everyone had left. We drove through gorgeous scenery and got to venture down random roads that led to empty beaches. Overall, I have no regrets. It never fails to amaze me how everything comes together and always works out. Not having ever been to Caberete, or ever actually meeting any of the people I chose to make our dream wedding a reality, I really had to play off gut feelings and trust. I love how intimate and cozy our ceremony felt, how everything turned out to be so gorgeous, and how delicious the food and desserts were. Being able to have a bonfire until two in the morning, just steps away from where we said “I do” was magical. My amazing wedding team was the best. They dealt with all my detail annoyances and worked so hard to make our wedding how we wanted it.

“ Using the correct

LYNETTE MURRAY The talented hair stylist speaks to DWHA about her experience, inspiration and the latest bridal trends right now I’VE ALWAYS HAD A PASSION FOR HAIR, even as a child I was constantly torturing my younger sister to play hairdressers. My granny Lily was always such a glamorous lady and had her hair styled every week. I went with her and always wanted to help. I was very lucky to get employed by a salon in Holywood called Patrick Mulholland, and there my real passion for hair started. I worked there for eleven years before moving on to a creative salon in Belfast called Blue. I created bridal hair for my clients and from listening to their desires to still look like themselves, not a version of what people think a bride should be, my passion to create soft natural wedding hair began. I have specialised in bridal hair now for four years but have always loved creating styles.
MY PASSION FOR LOVE is what sets me apart from other stylists. I truly believe it’s an honour to be chosen to create any bride’s hair. You get to meet their families and friends, and share such an important day with them. They are marrying their best friend and I want them to feel as good about themselves as possible, so I only ever take on one wedding per day. I stay until everyone is dressed so I can do all the finishing touches and attach the veil if needed. I don’t just create their bridal hair, I am also there to help keep everyone calm and make sure the morning of their wedding runs as smoothly as possible. I like to think of myself as a little wedding fairy godmother. I’M A HUGE FAN OF MARIA NILA PRODUCTS as they are all sulphate and paraben free, which is great for your hair. They have a beautiful argan oil that keeps your hair from going frizzy, so if you’re planning a destination wedding, it would help fight against the humidity. Davines have a beautiful styling range too and an amazing blowdry system you can buy and use at home. It is great for keeping your hair looking good all day and night. My top tip for bridal hair is to be you! If you have short hair, keep it short. If you have long hair and never wear it up, keep it down. Don’t be afraid to be you! Your other half hasn’t asked you to marry them for you to suddenly change into a different person. When walking down the aisle, walk down with confidence and be the best version of the real you.
“ My passion
EVERYTHING FROM THE WORLD around me inspires me. God has created such a beautiful platform for me to grab inspiration. I have a huge passion for architecture and truly believe that the basis applies to hair too. Hair is like a beautiful building, without foundations it will fall. For me, creating any hairstyle needs to start from what you put in it. No amount of hairspray will keep a style if it hasn’t been prepped well first. The correct shampoo and styling products are key! Soft and natural are the main words I’m hearing when it comes to styling. Even when the hair is up and off the neck, it is all done very relaxed. Plaits and soft curls are still big hits with brides, but nothing too stiff for hairsprayed.
is creating soft, natural wedding hair”

AFTER 19 YEARS working from a salon, I’ve just opened up my own bespoke studio. I’ll be working by myself and creating a haven for my clients’ hair. I will be using Maria Nila and Davines products. There’s a range being created by hairstylist Leon Gorman that is produced from seaweed off the Irish coast and when it launches, I will be using that too. I want Lynette Murray Hair to help with sustaining the world’s environment. I’ve even got a beautiful bridal section to create a calming atmosphere for my bridal trials and to talk all things weddings. Overall, I hope to keep growing my brand (lynettemurrayhair.com).

TRISTAN COOPER
The experienced hair and makeup artist shares his expert advice, inspiration and discusses getting married abroad
I HAD A DREAM TO TRAVEL THE WORLD, however before my mother would allow this, she insisted that I got myself a trade. Like her, I chose hairdressing. After working with hair for 15 years, I felt that I needed to challenge myself once again, and this is what led me into makeup.
finger waving are also popular. I strive for perfection and believe that wedding photos should be timeless.
I FIND INSPIRATION EVERYWHERE — you just need to open your eyes and breathe it in. Taking risks, colour and movies — both old and new but especially the iconic ones — inspires me. My favourite style icon of all time has to be Coco Chanel. She was always so stylish, elegant and poised. But I equally adore Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Charlize Theron is my icon of the moment, but Angelina Jolie is also a big contender.
THE ASPECT I LOVE MOST about my job is attaining perfection. When I hear clients saying that they love their hairstyles, it makes me truly happy. I’m a firm believer that beauty comes from within. Drinking plenty of water and getting at least seven hours of sleep are both high on my ‘beauty tip’ list. I also always recommend using organic products — the less toxins on the skin the better! If a bride is planning a wedding somewhere hot, then high factor sun cream is a must. Burnt skin is very difficult to disguise with makeup. For a hair conditioning treatment while sitting in the sun, I recommend coconut, almond, argan or olive oil — whichever best suits your hair type. If the wedding is taking place in a cold country, then plenty of moisturiser should be used before the big day.
I FEEL THAT I’M NOT your conventional stylist as I’m always thinking outside the box. My haircuts are decided by each individual client’s bone structure and their daily requirements for their hair. When I’m colouring hair, the first thing I consider is the client’s skin tone. It’s very important to never become stagnant in this industry as you always have to move with the ever-changing styles and stay on top of the latest trends. In these contemporary times, social media is essential. At the moment, it’s all about loose, natural bridal hair, but braiding and

NEIL DONKIN
The Phuket-based makeup artist and hairstylist tells of his experience and inspiration, sharing his expert beauty advice for brides-to-be! AS I ALWAYS LOVED FASHION and creativity, hairdressing was something I got into straight out of school. It was about six years after I started hairdressing that I begun studying makeup artistry. It just seemed like a natural progression, having one person to create a total look. After I completed my makeup course, I was on the books for an agency in Sydney. I spent around five years working in fashion, editorial, advertising and commercials for both print and television. From there I ended up working for commercial television in Sydney, for over twenty years. I have been lucky enough to work with people like Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, Elle McPherson, Rose Byrne, Isla Fisher, KD Lang, Cate Blanchett, Dame Joan Collins, Jackie Collins, Pamela Anderson, Dana Delaney, Chris and Liam Hemsworth. I HAVE LIVED IN PHUKET now for five years. Wedding hair and makeup is something I have always loved doing, so to be doing it now full time is perfect for me. For the first time in over twenty years, I love what I am doing. Each day, I cannot wait to get to work and am so lucky to be involved in the most important day of many people’s lives. To be working in such a positive and happy environment is such a great feeling.

DWHA || may / june
MY GREATEST ADVICE FOR BRIDES getting married overseas is to do your research and have definite ideas. Don’t be afraid to explain what you like and dislike, and plan your dress accordingly — you don’t want layers and sleeves if it’s on the beach. Also, take into account the climate. Although it’s beautiful to have your hair out, curly hair often hates humidity. If you’re having a beach ceremony, you don’t want makeup that looks like it belongs in a club. Opt instead for natural tones and a clean foundation. IT’S GREAT TO HAVE a current and contemporary look, but be careful, as your wedding photos are for life. You don’t want to look back and define an era by your hair and makeup. Go for a classic, natural style that is really ‘you’ and not what you expect a bride should look like. Don’t be afraid to be in constant contact with your makeup artist. The more information we have — photos of hairstyles, makeup looks, your dress etc. — the better! It’s also a great idea to have a makeup and hair trial prior to the wedding, even if it’s just the day before. Overall, it makes it a lot easier on both the bride and the stylist on the day. I CANNOT SAY WHAT IS NEXT for me. I just love what I do, and feel so lucky to do what I love on a tropical island with the most beautiful and happy brides. They say that if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life. I have found my love (neildonkinmakeupartistphuket.com).

Post-war optimism and Hollywoodinspired outfits defined fashion in the Jazz Age. Slim three-piece suits were all the rage, usually paired with a matching waistcoat. Colours were similar to previous years, with browns, greys and greens being popular choices. Additionally, pinstripes and plaid designs made a significant appearance. Accessories were dominated by bow ties and no man would be seen without a befitting hat. Styles included fedoras, bowler and trilby designs, whilst boater hats were often favoured in the summer.

50’s
A MINIMALIST ERA
Suave conformity and trim tailoring highlighted the decidedly simple fashion of the fifties. Dark blue, dark brown and grey flannel suits were the norm for formalwear, and men were always adorned with accessories. A stylish hat, handkerchief, coordinated tie and wingtip shoes were a must for the fashionconscious man of the era. Compared to previous trends, ties were slimmer, shirt collars were less pronounced and the brims of hats were narrower. To truly finish off the look, opt for a pipe, cigarette or martini glass in your hand!

EMBRACING INDIVIDUALITY
“There are no rules in the fashion game now,” Vogue announced in the early seventies, defining the key aspect to trends of the era: anything goes. Men were no longer restricted to hats and monochromes due to the rise of a loose-collared culture sweeping society. Hippie fashion of the late 1960s continued and bell-bottom jeans, tie-dye shirts and homemade accessories took over. Chunky knitwear and patterned clothing were in abundance, with anything from loud florals and polka dots to plaid designs gracing the streets.

80’s
AFFLUENT DRESSING
The eighties had a prominent emphasis on expensive and branded accessories. Young Working Professionals made preppy Ivy League style clothes a significant trend and those following it could be spotted wearing turtlenecks, suspenders and corduroy. In terms of formal attire, business men took to power dressing, showcasing expensive clothes and accessories and pinstripes made a return. Suits however, were surprisingly conservative. Neutral colours were most popular with skinny ties taking centre stage.
Salviati Oxblood calf leather oxford shoe, £329, oliversweeney.com
90’s
CASUAL CHIC
This decade saw a return to the anti-conformist approach to fashion, with casual looks featuring T-shirts, distressed jeans and over-sized hoodies. Minimalism defined the nineties and tattoos and body piercings became increasingly prominent in the western world. Men’s fashion was heavily influenced by the subcultures of music. Flannel shirts and ripped acid wash jeans were typical attire for lovers of grunge, whilst oversized baseball jackets and tracksuits largely took over the hip-hop scene.

From small fishing sloops to large trading schooners, you can witness a variety of different shapes and sizes of boats being constructed. I take the lead on a wedding, centralising and managing all the information. I have to be attentive to guide the couple and advise them. I am here to respect their desires but I also offer them new ideas to make their day unique. All my expertise and experience are dedicated to them so they can feel calm and relaxed. A winter wedding I planned in Courchevel stands out to me. It was prestigious and enchanting under the snow — an epic moment as beautiful as a masterpiece. This day was full of emotions and happiness, not just for my newlyweds, but also for me. My advice to couples looking to hire a planner is all in the word "feeling". The harmony between the wedding planner and the couple has to be perfect to have good organisation for the wedding. This feeling is the cement of the trust between us.

Jonas Jacquel
Specialising in artistic and rigorous wedding pictures, Jonas Jacquel uses his photo-journalism approach to create stunning images for your special day
Primarily working in Dijon and Burgundy, photographer Jonas Jacquel discusses the inspiration for his photographs, his experience and his ambitions for the future
I first started photography with the daily press. I was a full-time photojournalist and then, during the meetings, I discovered architecture and wedding photography. I still work for lifestyle magazines on a regular basis. As I have a degree in History of Art, I was initially inspired by classical art, painting and cinema, before focusing more particularly on photographic culture. I remain very influenced by cinema and fashion photography. There are many aspects that I enjoy about photographing weddings. But overall, I think it is the perfect compromise between the “capture” of the moment in reportage and the aesthetic research of the portrait that draws me the most. It is a very complete exercise, and is therefore quite delicate but very interesting for the photographer. I am a true lover of Venice, which I visit regularly. It is one of my favourite destinations to photograph. I know the city and its corner very well, steering away from the touristic paths. I know it sounds quite conventional, but Venice continues to deliver a legendary background to lovers all over the world (jonasphotographie.com).

The Nightless Night
Of course, Finland is more than just a winter destination. Its remarkable natural landscapes are ideal for summer walks and adventures, including sailing across the coastal islands and hiking through luscious forests. All of this is made possible for a vast amount of time in the summer months due to a phenomenon called the Midnight Sun. Occurring north of the Arctic Circle, the Midnight Sun refers to the natural wonder where the sun does not set for a couple of months. Further south, the sun can be visible for almost 24 hours a day during June and July, whilst in the northernmost parts of Finland, it remains above the horizon for over 70 consecutive days.
Endless Summer
Due to this amazing occurrence, summer in Finland can often seem endless. In celebration of this, there are numerous outdoor activities to undertake. Allocated the nickname of the ‘Land of a Thousand Lakes’, Finland’s extensive waters are first on the list of locations to explore under the Midnight Sun. Although this nickname may seem like an exaggeration, it is actually an understatement. There are in fact approximately 188,000 lakes across the country, meaning that a considerable amount of Finland is covered in water. Lake Saimaa is the

We have put together details on the majority of the world’s wedding hotspots so that you’re in the know and ready to start sending out those ‘Save The Date’ cards. Here you’ll find up-to-date information tailored to each country on key areas, such as medical and vaccination advice, flight times and legal requirements. This section provides guidance on whether your marriage can take place in the country of your choice, and, importantly, whether it will be valid in British and international law. Remember, rock royalty Mick Jagger overlooked a technicality at his Hindu wedding to Jerry Hall in Bali — the union was not actually legally recognised in this country. With the help of your guide, you can start to gather all of the relevant paperwork. You may decide to employ a destination-wedding planner, who is either based here or in the country you are marrying in. A reputable planner will advise you on all the paperwork you need to ensure your marriage is legal for a one-off fee starting around £200. Other vital considerations include visa requirements and residency. Residency refers to the number of days or house you are required to reside in the country before your wedding ceremony. It can vary from no residency required, to a number of months. Residency is not to be confused with ‘waiting
