This scholarship may be used either in the United States or abroad but will be awarded only for a recognized summer Chinese language program. Undergraduate students currently studying Chinese language in the Department of Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures at The University of Iowa may apply, but preference will be given to a student who is majoring in Chinese. This is a merit-based scholarship, therefore, priority will be given to students maintaining a higher GPA.
To be eligible, you must
Have a minimum UI cumulative GPA of 2.83 Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in Chinese courses for the Chinese major or minor.
This scholarship is awarded by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese to undergraduate students majoring in Spanish and who meet the following criteria.
To be eligible, you must
Must be currently enrolled undergraduate Spanish major Have a UI cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher Be a native speaker of English; Be in at least their fifth semester of university study when the award begins Be studying in a Spanish-speaking country for two consecutive semesters (may include winter/summer term) and earning at least 15 s.h. of credit.
This scholarship is awarded by the Russian Program of the Department of Asian and Slavia Languages and Literatures to students majoring in Russian and who meet the following criteria. This scholarship is intended to be applied towards a study abroad in a Russianspeaking country.
To be eligible, you must
be a student majoring in Russian who is not a native speaker of Russian.
The Department of Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures is pleased to announce a summer scholarship for students in Russian and Asian Language Study.
This scholarship may be used either in the United States or abroad, but will be awarded only for study in a recognized summer language program. The proposed summer course must provide the equivalent of a full academic year of language study in an intensive Russian or Asian language course. Such summer courses generally meet the equivalent of 20 hours a week for an eight-week term.
*Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their Study Abroad Advisor to discuss their study abroad plans and scholarship eligibility before applying for this scholarship.*
Students who are pursuing Direct Enrollment programs are not allowed to use Federal Financial Aid or Iowa Scholarships to cover program costs if the hosting institution does not have a Federal School Code.
Preference will be given to students who demonstrate 1 2
An aptitude and achievement in previous work in their chosen language
A serious commitment to incorporating this language in their future study and career goals.
Consideration will be limited to students who intend to return to The University of Iowa for further study either upon completion of their summer work or after a limited time in a formal study-abroad program following the summer award period.
Final award of scholarship funds will be contingent upon acceptance into an intensive summer language program approved by the scholarship selection committee.
One annual scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Russian.
Preference is given to student(s) majoring in Russian during the academic year, excluding summer study programs. The award is renewable to any recipient as long as they still meet the qualifications.
To be awarded to a deserving student majoring or minoring in Russian or Russian Studies Student should be a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate who has excelled in the study or Russian and shows promise for using the language in their career.
Awarded to students majoring in Russian (non-majors and minors are not eligible).
To be eligible, you must
have a UI cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 be enrolled full-time for both semesters in the 2022-2023 academic year (12 s.h. for undergraduates) born in Iowa and educated in Iowa for at least grades one through eight OR Born in the United States and graduated from an Iowa high school.
Undergraduate students cannot receive this scholarship for Study Abroad.
The Department of Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for deserving undergraduate students majoring in Russian in the Department. Preference is given to student(s) showing financial need during the academic year.

The Department of French and Italian will be awarding this scholarship to a Junior or Senior major in French (non-majors and minors are not eligible).
To be eligible, you must
have a UI cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 be enrolled full-time for both semesters in the 2022-2023 academic year (12 s.h. for undergraduates) born in Iowa and educated in Iowa for at least grades one through eight OR Born in the United States and graduated from an Iowa high school.
Undergraduate students cannot receive this scholarship for Study Abroad.
This scholarship is awarded by the Department of French and Italian with preference given to an undergraduate senior majoring in French
To be eligible, you must
have a cumulative UI GPA of 3.0 or higher Preference will also be given to a student who is emphasizing in literary studies and shows outstanding promise in French studies. Preference will go to a student who has completed a project in some area of his/her French studies.
A scholarship awarded by the Department of French and Italian to a deserving studentopen to all applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship, disability, age, or veteran status.
Preference will be given to a student majoring or minoring in French or Italian Preference is given to a student who is a member of the University of Iowa Honors Program.
Eligible students must have a cumulative UI GPA of at least 3.7.
Awarded to students majoring in Asian Languages and Literatures (non-majors an minors are not eligible).

To be awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student based on scholarship and demonstrated interest and/or activity in South Asian Arts and Culture.

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity to will be awarded to a student majoring in Spanish or Portuguese who demonstrates financial need. Preference is given to those with a Hispanic or Latinx background.
To be eligible, you must
Have no more than 12 s.h. completed toward your Spanish or Portuguese major by the end of Spring 2023.
This scholarship is awarded by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese to a deserving student majoring in Spanish or Portuguese. Must demonstrate financial need and merit.
