We are honored and excited to take this opportunity to invite you to our 3rd Annual Buildin’ A Brand Production Sale. It appears that all facets of the beef business remain strong and in demand. The recent fall rains experienced by much of the country have lifted the spirits and expectations of cattle producers nation wide, helping to set the scene for a prosperous jumpstart next spring. I’m not sure there has ever been a better time to be in the cow business. We truly believe that we have, with the assistance of our good friends and guest consignors, assembled one of the finest offerings of bred females to sell this fall. Ourselves and our guest consignors are focused on producing cattle that are easy to look at, yet extremely functional, efficient, and profitable. These females are mated to some of the most desired and sought after Simmental and Angus genetics available, in order to get you the most return on your investment possible. Many are bred to sexed female semen. This is a practice that we have used quite extensively since the technology became available, to further your chances at success with your purchase. We are again selling a small group of young herd bull prospects headlined by Sandeen Bull 2386. A bull that possesses the genotype and phenotype required to be perhaps the most opportunistically timed young herd sire in the history of the Simmental breed, to assist in the fulfillment of the economical traits needed to be at the forefront of the beef business. He, along with a select few bred females, are derived from the famed “Donna” cow family that has become so dominant in the maternal sectors of the Angus breed and appear as though they are being very well accepted by the SimAngus population. We are extremely proud of this set of cattle brought here for your appraisal and truly believe that every female will go out and become a profitable, productive cow. If we didn’t feel she would do that, she wouldn’t be here, plain and simple. We really do want these cattle to work for their new owners and enjoy hearing the reports from them.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all of our friends and customers from years past, present and future. We fully understand there are many places you could invest your hard earned money and we’re grateful for the opportunity to have you evaluate our program. One which we feel is rather unique when compared to others, due to the fact we have tried to blend practical traits such as efficiency and structural integrity with the showring like appeal, to make a desirable and highly marketable product. It also needs to be recognized that without the help of so many good friends and associates, having this sale would not be possible. From all the help in the spring with calving and A.I.ing, to our vet, to the picture crew, the sale management, auctioneer, consultants, etc. Your work is not done in vain. It is all so much appreciated! There are countless hours of hard work that go into getting to this point, and without all the excellent help and the loyalty of our customers it couldn’t happen. Thanks for your time & God Bless The Sandeen’s

Sandeen Donna 7386

The donna cow family is one of the most important genetic cornerstones of the decade, creating some of the more consistent and predictable genetics in both the angus and sim/angus breeds. The most infamous of the Donna family is Coleman Donna 386, who recently sold 1/2 interest for $100,000. Not because of a great picture or some over the top promotion, but because of her ability to produce great cattle. We currently house two outstanding daughters, and one son, of 386 by the immortal Meyer Ranch 734. To date these to donor females have yielded tremendous results within our program. Son’s and daughters by both 7386 and 8386 have all been stamped with added style, loads of volume and fleshing ability, soundness, and are excellent in terms of performance in a yet moderate framed package. An 8386 daughter by Sandeens SOS was the high selling open heifer in the 2011 Foundation Female sale. For this years sale we will be offering a tremendous 3/4 simmental bull from the mating of Upgrade x Sandeen Donna 7386 as well as five bred heifers from Sandeen Donna 8386 sired by Steel Force and SOS. It has always been our sincere belief that the key to the cattle business is to build your foundation on the best, most maternal cow families available. We have chosen the Donna cow family due to the fact that it is stacked several generations deep with cows that have continued to produce consistent, useful offspring without waiver. Please take some time to study this cow family, then we invite you to analyze the progeny in this offering on sale weekend!

ASA #: 2642004 Mr NLC Upgrade U8676 BW 1.8, WW 72.9, YW 113.5, Milk 21.2, API 108.0 2386 is the most impressive 3/4 simmental bull we have ever had the pleasure of raising. He comes at a time when purebred simmental breeders need a clean made, naturally soggy, loose structured bull, that is flexible in his joints and wide based, with tremendous performance in a moderate framed, efficient package. He also possesses a very useful set of EPD’s as well as being homozygous black, smooth polled, and a baldy. This Upgrade son is derived from the infamous Coleman Donna cow family which has become one of the most intracle parts of our of our SimAngus program. The dam of this bull, Sandeen Donna 7386, is a full sibling to Sandeen Donna 8386, who has placed 5 very impressive bred heifers in this years offering. Coleman Donna 386, the grandam of both this young herd sire and the Select Sires record breaking Coleman Regis, sold 1/2 interest last year for $100,000, his great grandam, KMK Donna J311, just recently sold for $20,000 at nearly 13 years of age. The genetics, longevity, and proven productivity are deeply imbedded in this young herd sire. Selling 1/2 semen interest and 1/2 possession.

An own daughter of 8386 by the most highly sought after Simmental bull in the business, Steel Force, making her a 3/4 blood and only one generation away from a purebred. That was our vision when we started with this Donna cow family. To instill what we felt were the very best Angus genetic into the Simmental cattle, making them more maternal and efficient all while improving consistency. 1856 is a female that is moderate in her frame, massive in her body type, with added power and substance, yet still maintains an attractive profile. We are very excited about her first calf by Lock’n’Load regardless of sex you can expect a massive, sound made, marketable calf. It will be the first purebred Simmental produced from the Donna cow family, which will only add to the genetic value of that first calf.

This is what cows that live long, productive lives look like as bred heifers. Moderate framed and highly efficient, all while being extremely sound on the move and bold sprung in her rib shape. I would love to see this one when she’s a 4 year old, she will be flat impressive! 1629 is the type and kind of female that has made the SimAngus the most versatile and useful hybrid available. However that has probably never been SimAngus produced from a foundation as strong as the dam, granddam, and great granddam of these Donna sisters. This cow family tends to transmit longevity, fertility, milk production, and udder quality. All the traits it takes to make a great cow.

Only two other full siblings to these two females have every been sold at public auction. One was purchased by Green Oak Farms for $16,750 the other by the Greg Scott Family and Ver Ploeg Farms. The female purchased by the Scott & Ver Ploeg families recently sold a calf by Steel Force in the 2012 Hawkeye Sale for $17,250 and the year before that the same cow produced a daughter who sold for $8000. These females are bred to produce and should generate a very respectable amount with the first mating.

This Jet Stream daughter is an absolute tank of a female. With that in mind she still combines all that power and substance in an extremely feminine featured package. Without a doubt a donor cow in the making bred early to OCC Prophet 666P.

A commercial Angus female in this lot, but still the same quality as registered cattle in this sale. She is a descendent from the 1245 donor cow that was very productive in the DUFF program, and now resides at ETR Cattle Co. Don’t discount her just because we can’t put registration papers on her!!!

These next three lots represent what we at FBF think are ideal in terms of femininity combined with power and substance. A trio of sisters that one would be hard pressed to separate in terms of type and kind.

Mr. HOC Broker

This is our only Salute bull this year, but he is out of probably the most productive of our Tharpe Angus cows. His dam, 225, produced the first Salute daughter we ever sold in 2004, who sold for $6500. A few years later she gave us a $15,000 heifer that wound up being a high point show heifer for the Harsh family of Ohio. Then in 2009 she managed to have our high selling bred going to Green Oak Farms of Ohio for $28,500. Most recently she has sold nearly $20,000 worth of embryos. Long story short, this bull should make an impressive set of replacement females.

2021 is a good brockle faced 3/4 Simmental bull by the $74,000 Canadian sire, Lock’n’Load. This bull’s dam is a full sister to 9761W, the sire of many of the 1/4 blood heifers in this offering. His granddam is our 021K donor, which I always felt was one of the best donor cows to ever come out of the Gateway Simmental Ranch of Lewistown, Montana.

Someone could put together a pretty im 266 is a stouter constructed, hairy, soggy bull pressive set of these half-blood Lock’n’Load brothers that comes directly from a 14 year old Tharpe Angus sale day. Just think of the tremendously consistent cow that has produced multiple offspring featured in and quality driven set of calves that would create. our past sales. These Lock’n’Loads have worked well for us. The bulls are rugged made, good doing cattle that are structurally sound from the ground up, and the heifers will be sale features in future Buildin’ A Brand Sales. ASA #: Pending Birth Weight: 80
