Paper Island | Copenhagen, DK Celebrating an industrial waterfront with retention of structures and destination This abandoned industrial island is the last bit of available waterfront real estate in CPH. Thus, it is up for r e d e v e l o p m e n t b y t h e c i t y. T h e i s l a n d has become an unlikely but popular destination with the rise of grassroots commerce and public use. Pynchon Plaza | Springfield, MA An interlock of architectural rigidity with an organic hillside landscape Linking the Historic Springfield Quad to the more commercial downtown area, the ‘Living Machine’ moves pedestrians up a 40’ elevation change and offers pedestrian space at three levels. It is sad to see it in such disrepair. It could be a great pedestrian shortcut from downtown to the Quadrangle if there were more such traffic, and maybe an enticement like an ice cream vendor to encourage a walk in that direction. Flag

I’d love to use this as a shortcut through downtown. The answer to security concerns is to get the space activated with more pedestrian traffic. Maybe open the plaza up to food trucks in the summer? Flag

Umass Campus | Amherst, MA A social space encouraging interaction with site through two dedicated art walls Site analysis video in collaboration with Christopher Rucinski viewable here. By popular demand, the central wall stands today as a cut through with a small wall dedicated to free creative expression. This design takes the e x p r e s s i o n w a l l s a s t e p f u r t h e r, making them convex and creating more continuous wall space. As the main entry into the student living area, the space must foster interaction and be welcoming. A main flow of foot traffic trickles down the sculptural staircase with opportunities to rest and gather at one of the many blue stone platforms.

Architecture Studio | Amherst, MA Evolution of form from architectural inspiration to landscape experience Aiming to understand how an architect thinks, designs, and speaks; I enrolled in an architecture studio, beyond my curriculum. Course work began with an analysis of phenomenal transparency of Rudolph Schindler ’s Lovell Beach House design; exploring structural patterns through object models. Choosing the model best representing the building’s spatial qualities; the model was studied 2-dimensionally through hand drafting and then to be introduced to site, bringing spatial phenomenon from building, to object, and through to landscape experience.

As a structure pavilion based on the experience and observation of human movement; the site resembles an ant hill with multiple routes of circulation.
As an exterior space composed entirely of architecture, The Ant Hill is the culmination of my exploration in relating the enclosure and the expanse.
