The “WOW” Experience
DynaFlex® vice president explains the importance of providing a “wow” experience
I
have the opportunity to lecture to thousands of dentists and orthodontic staff around the country. In my lectures, one of the areas I emphasize is providing the “WOW” experience. While many practices do a wonderful job providing a great clinical experience, my research shows that we take many aspects of the first impression or interactions with the patient for granted. Let me give you an example. One question I always ask of the staff is to estimate the dollars spent each year to market the practice. I explain that the marketing budget is everything they think is done to attract new patients. I get a wide
array of answers ranging from $0 to as much as $100,000 per year. When I explain to them that they are not even close to the real number, they all look at me with disbelief until I explain. I ask the staff members to assume that their doctor had just come from back from a marketing symposium. At that symposium, the first speaker was an expert on the Internet and suggested that if you plan to be in the field of dentistry over the next 10 to 15 years and do not have a strong web presence, you are in big trouble. The reason for this is because research shows us that two out of every three people under the age of 50 will search the Internet
first when trying to find a local business. In addition to being on the web, the expert continues that you must not only have a presence, but you must be within the first two pages of their search, or they won’t find you. This means that search engine optimization (SEO) and Really Simply Syndication (RSS) are absolute necessities in the development of your site. The marketing expert goes on to describe the critical nature of choosing your “meta tag” wisely. A meta tag is the paragraph underneath your practice’s name in an Internet search. Most businesses unfortunately allow the search article continues on page 2

the necessity of dental extraction requirements, then we suggest that it would be beneficial to investigate the simplicity, versatility and easy employment of the Series 2000® appliances. Series 2000® Appliances
Five Reasons These Appliances Are the Next Generation in Fixed Arch Development The DMAX-2000® was designed to take advantage of the high efficiency telescopic rod tube spring-loaded design. It is designed to be the mate of the MSX-2000®, which only requires observation appointments as both the DMAX-2000® and MSX-2000® are activated at the time of cementation.

provides this unsurpassed quality of motion. Because the nickel titanium coils will not take a permanent set, it allows the clinician to present the amount of force and arch length change desired prior to appliance placement so as not to require any further activations on the nickel titanium spring loaded activation sites throughout the entire treatment period. The use of the nickel titanium coil springs allows for the patient and is also extremely efficient for the clinician allowing for concentration on more arduous tasks and also greater intervals between scheduled appointments. The MJX-2000® and MSX-2000® make use of previously designed orthodontic molar and first bicuspid bands adapted for deciduous first molars with their buccal attachments which can be prespecified by the individual clinician to match his/her full bond armentarium. The design of the appliance is almost totally lingual with the placement of the telescopic rod tube spring mechanism at the same level as previously tolerated lingual holding arches. Nothing on this design approaches tissue support as seen with removable of bonded overlay expanders. The position is well tolerated by the patient and has shown to be extremely hygienic which means that the clinician no longer must be in a rush to activate and remove the appliance.
2
DMAX-2000® All thirteen designs of the Series 2000® appliances make the most efficient use of the latest technology in nickel titanium open coil springs to provide the clinician with the most stability and control with trauma protected friction-free movement on the special telescopic rod and tube design so as to allow for continuous no binding movement and force distribution. It is this unique combination of the closely adapted telescopic rod and tube size design mechanism with the nickel titanium coil spring force system that

The MJX-2000® is a clinician friendly appliance. It does not require any more activations than previously used orthopedic expanders in
either the maxillary and mandibular arch. For clinicians who have been comfortable allowing parents to make the activations on jackscrew appliances this appliance can also work into that mode because the only activation required is at the midline screw. The anterior/posterior activation is built into the appliance at the time of cementation by the special spring loaded telescope rod and tube design. The MSX-2000® is a totally spring loaded activated appliance requiring only recall observation visits. The MSX-2000® employs the spring-loaded telescopic rod and tube design bilaterally as does the MJX-2000®, but replaces the midline jackscrew with this same spring loaded telescopic rod tube mechanism. Due to the flexibility of the MSX-2000®, seating of the appliance is extremely easy.

What is the turn-around-time?
The Herbst® appliance is a superior fixed functional appliance which effectively corrects skeletal Class II malocclusions. DynaFlex® has created quality Herbst® appliances for doctors all over the world for forty years and counting. DynaFlex laboratory offers value pricing, expertise, and a vast knowledge of current Herbst® designs.
All standard appliances are 3-5 days in the lab. Appliances that are more time consuming will take 5-8 business days, some examples are: EZ-Align®, tooth positioners and study models. Always be sure to fill out the “Date Wanted” box on the prescription, this allows the laboratory to contact your office if needed.
Herbst® Designs: The Herbst® designs include stainless steel crowns, Rollo Bands, bands and/or acrylic. The amount of mandibular advancement and bite opening depends on the case and appliance design. All Herbst® designs can be reactivated by using precut “shims” or “spacers” to gain further advancement of the mandible. The EAS® design allows for 5 additional mm of advancement with a built-in screw mechanism.

Hilgers Crown Herbst® Design This is a simple yet effective design by Dr. Jim Hilgers. Utilizing the traditional rod and tube components soldered to crowns with an LHA for a comfortable and efficient appliance. The upper first molar crowns and the lower first bicuspid crowns provide sufficient anchorage; however, the LHA rest can also be bonded for even greater anchorage.
For orthodontic appliances I would always suggest to send a good quality yellow stone model, it saves lab time and an extra charge to pour your impressions up. If you request study models DynaFlex® would prefer impressions, this also saves lab time and a duplication charge.

Do I need to send a construction bite?
Hanks™ Telescoping Herbst®
The HTH was developed by Dr. Stephen Hanks as a major improvement to the traditional rod and tube design and is the only true “one piece” design available for Herbst® treatment. The telescoping design eliminates problems of disengagement and incorporates a ball and socket pivotal screw that is built into the telescoping mechanism. The ball and socket allows for tremendous lateral excursion and increased patient comfort. Also, the built in screw makes chair side placement extremely easy.
Appliance
A construction bite is required for most functional appliances as well as splints and night guards.
What to do if an appliance breaks?
I would always recommend contacting one of our lab technicians regarding specific cases. Depending on the circumstances and appliance type, we may require a new model or set of models to either repair, reprocess or re-fabricate the appliance.

Flip-Lock® Herbst® The Flip Lock mechanism is comprised of a simple ball joint hinge that allows for maximum lateral excursion and extremely easy chair side assembly. It can be fabricated with the traditional design or the cantilever design for increased patient comfort.
Ideally the answer to this is yes. Most would agree that this is the most accurate way of guaranteeing an accurate fitting appliance. Please verify band placement after the model has been removed from the impression. If minor movement has occurred, note this on the prescription and the laboratory will make any adjustments required. 101112 - Herbst Brochure 6 pager.indd 4-6
Does DynaFlex® keep models after an appliance is made?
Yes, models are kept 30 days from the day we ship the case back to you. That way if an appliance is lost in the mail or if there is a problem with the appliance we can pull the models and remake quickly, if the models are still good.
Can the patient design his or her own retainer?
Yes, your patient can change any design on the DynaFlex color chart. To add a personal touch your patient can send their own decal or design to place in acrylic.
The DynaFlex® Philosophy The DynaFlex team is committed to providing all of our customers with the service, quality and value they expect and deserve. We will do whatever it takes to service our customers in every detail with courtesy and consistency. We want to be your first choice!

EZ-Align
®
Affordable Aligner System
EZ-Align® is a clear tray system that will progressively align your patients teeth until the final results have been achieved. And best of all, EZ-Align® is a very affordable alternative to other aligner systems currently available.
EZ–Align®
Designed to fit your practice and please your patients
General Guidelines for the EZ-Align® System 1. As a general rule, if enamel reduction is necessary, it should be preformed prior to taking the impression. 2. A high quality impression is extremely important. We suggest a Poly-Vinyl-Siloxane impression if this is available at your practice. If not, we suggest using a high quality impression material such as Kromopan. 3. Always send both upper and lower impressions or models, even if the case calls for treatment of only one arch. No bite will be needed to complete your case. 4. The EZ-Align® appliances should be worn full time, except when eating. 5. One should be realistic in the potential changes made by EZ-Align®. More than three millimeters of movement may require fixed braces before using EZ-Align® or may require more appliances. 6. At each appointment the doctor should check for space requirements and reduce enamel as needed. 7. Upon delivery of the first retainer you may need to have the patient bite on to cotton rolls placed on the occlusal surface of the appliance in order to attain a good seat. 8. For more retention you may consider having a button on the facial surface of the tooth. The button can be made from composite of adhesive. Please call if you have any questions concerning the use of retention buttons. 9. If the desired results are not achieved with the first set of EZ-Align® retainers, additional appliances may be utilized as necessary.
If you would like to discuss a possible case for EZ-Align® please feel free to call one of our laboratory technical advisors at 800-489-4020.
