IFE NEWCOMERS INTEGRATION WEEKEND 2011
From 23 to 25 September, 106 students from 12 countries of Europe spent the last sunny weekend of September in Zdwórz, Poland on international integration. This trip is an event, for which every student waits eagerly. We got to our destination a couple of minutes after noon and almost immediately started doing what our trip was all about – integration. We began from some simple games that were designed to break the ice and in the evening we travelled back in time to the 90's and stayed in this dancing atmosphere for the rest of the night.
Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever and our 3-day adventure had to end. However, there is no doubt that it was an unforgettable experience for everybody. We were coming home happy with the way we spent the last weekend of our holidays, but on the other hand we were worried by the fact, that the trip had ended too fast. “We started the preparation for this event on the very beginning of summer. Despite the fact, that the trip was short, we put a lot of effort into it. ESN-EYE members have gone to great lengths to fulfill their duties. All the Erasmus students came back extremely happy – after the weekend I got a lot of e-mails with thanks for a successful adventure. I'm very satisfied with the way we managed to organize it. In the future we will do our best to make such trips longer, because, as experience showed, 3 days is definitely too short. “
coordinator Daria Matuszewska The second day was devoted to sport and recreation. The most common activities were basketball, volleyball and football, but there was also a possibility to explore the nearby lake on a paddleboat. Later that day it was time for some work or actually funintegration in groups. To add a little bit of competition, there was a reward for three best teams. We spent the rest of the night in the moonlight by a camp-fire talking and sharing memories and experiences.
WHY NOT??
ESN-EYE ENROLMENT MEETING On 6.10.2011 in the International Faculty of Engineering we organized the ESN-EYE enrolment meeting, which was a chance for all the people who wanted to develop their soft skills. The attendance was stunning. Division into 6 teams helped to control the enthusiasm of the newcomers. Everyone could see what it means to work for ESN-EYE, for example by pretending to be a coordinator of a project, party or a trip. We were also trying to share the positive spirit of our organization with everyone.
FUKSÓWKA It is a tradition to organize „Fuksówka” (a big party for the freshmen) in a really insane way. “Crazy Science” was the main theme of the party. Students dressed-up as mad scientists and beautiful decorations together with drinks served in testtubes created an unbelievable atmosphere. The preparation was quite a difficult task which required tight cooperation and caring about details.
IFE
“Thanks to this event I could find on my own how to manage people, I got a lot of experience and found new paths to realize next, bigger projects.” Anna Szoszkiewicz - „Fuksówka IFE” coordinator
All Saints’ Day Photowalk On the all Saints' day, as in every year, a Photowalk has been organized. It was an event which was meant to show the students from foreign universities the cemetery on Ogrodowa street in Łódź, which is considered one of the most beautiful in the city. Firstly, we walked through the evangelical part, were we showed to the Erasmus students the Scheibler's neo-Gothic chapel and briefly explained who this very important person in Łódź's history was. Next, we visited the biggest, catholic part of the cemetery, where the Heinzlów chapel is located. We also stopped next to the big cross with lots of candles. „The walk took place in a nice and friendly atmosphere.” -Ada Grzelak – Social Erasmus programm coordinator „It was really nice! Good to see some of the polish culture.” - Robert Cornelissen (Netherlands)
MOBILITY WEEK Beata Ogrodowczyk (administrative coordinated of the LLP-Erasmus programme, representative of the International Student Exchange Office) evaluates the help and support of ESN-EYE during the organization of Mobility Week: “The students from ESN-EYE is a group of well-organized and enthusiastic young people. Along with the International Student Exchange Office they were responsible for the organization and promotion of the second edition of Mobility Week (24-28 October 2011). They were giving pieces of advice to polish students interested in studying abroad and together with foreign students they were promoting the idea of the Erasmus programme. We are particularly happy with their help during the organization of Polyglotus Café and Mobility Party.”
POLYGLOTUS CAFE
Josh Skjold (leader’s opinion about whole event): „It was a big success due to a host of factors: organization, enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, and "human capital." From the start, the students of IFE were a wealth of creative ideas and stimulus for fun and integrative activities which were developed and put into action by them. These activities were an intercultural quiz, speed dating and power point karaoke. Their enthusiasm was infectious and is most likely a reflection of the positive and integrative student bodies of the schools that were drawn to the meeting, as the group in its entirety collaborated, shared and laughed together. As a participant and observer, I grew from this very positive experience and I feel that those involved have as well.”
MOBILITY PARTY On 28.10.2011, after the ending of Mobility Week, the Mobility Party took place in the IFE building, where Erasmus students from each country served their traditional cuisine. Apart from that, some presentations from polish and international students entitled “My adventure with Erasmus” were shown. In the programme of Mobility Party there were also dance shows, a discussion panel “How did Erasmus help you with the development of your path of career?” and workshops organized by ESN-EYE entitled “Erasmus – is it worth it? Let's create a business plan together” (chaired by Paweł Trybulski and Michał Garbacz, IFE students). This event was very successful and well received, strongly due to the ability of getting to know other cultures. „Mobility party, were the best idea to join all nationalities together.” - Julien Piret (France) „The mobility party was a very good idea to know the typical thing for other countries.” - Antonio J. Maestre (Spain)
„Both parties required a lot of work, time and money. Polyglotus Café was a novelty, a lot of things kept surprising us, but thanks to close cooperation, which proved really helpful, we managed to create a very nice, innovative event. The same can be said about the Mobility Party, which would never be thrown without cooperation. This event was organized by many people, who treated the subject seriously and managed to do everything quickly and creatively. “ - Monika Tim – coordinator
PRL PARTY PRL Party Photowalk In order to help the Erasmus students choose the outfits for the upcoming Polish Communism Party, ESN-EYE organised two trips to second-hand clothing stores. The first one took place on the 4.10.2011, and the other one on the 8.10.2011. The turnover during both events was very high, and all the clothes were tried and tried again. The results of the shopping could be seen not only in the pictures, but mainly during the party. „As the coordinator, but first of all a participant, I was positively surprised by the large number of people that showed up for the shopping. All in al,l I didn't have any problems, because the Erasmus students had a really great time. ” – Justyna Paradowska.
PRL Party On the 10.11.2011 we traveled back in time and returned to the Communist Poland. Nearby Pewex club, where the party was held, a lot of people arriving at the event with red flags could be seen. Much to our surprise, even though the turnover was extreme, this time there were hardly any queues at the club's front doors and all those willing to participate could enter the club. Around 600 people showed up at the party. Apart from the international music hits from the communist period in Poland, also polish melodies could be heard, such as Elektryczne Gitary (The Electric Guitars). Welcome drinks were served to the first 100 people and also typical polish snacks could be found at the tables, such as bread with lard or pickled cucumbers. Judging from the opinions of foreign students they really enjoyed the atmosphere of the party.
ICE SKATING
„And PRL Party was really amazing !! A very good party in a good club, really crazy for me!” - Guillaume Fersing (France) „For me, one of the best of the year! very good music, nice people.” - Cyrille Arduino Smorczewski (France)
coordinator Justyna Paradowska An agreable and unofficial event. Much to our surprise, most of the participants wore ice skates for the first time in their lifes! There were also those, however, for whom the ice seemed like a natural habitat. Because of high attendance and requests for similar events, activities like ice skating will for sure be continued in the future.
INTERNATIONAL SANTA CLAUS International Santa Claus is a new project of the Erasmus Student Network Poland – Social Erasmus division. The aim of this event is to provide children from orphanages with an easier access to the possibility of learning foreign languages. In December foreign students that were in Lodz at that time due to the Socrates-Erasmus programme played the roles of Santa Clauses and handed presents to children from the orphanage “Dom Małego Dziecka”. The gifts were bought for the money collected during:
Christmas Market - which took place at IFE on the 8.12.2011. On this day the IFE building was filled with the smell of homemade cakes and the sounds of carols that reminded about the upcoming Christmas. A fair of the cakes and Christmas cards handmade by the Erasmus students was held, as well as auctions of items delivered by the lecturers.
International Santa Claus Party – the entire profit from the charity event, organised together with ESN UŁ, supported by many sponsors, such as Atlas, Bowling Club Drakula, Dance&Fit, Salome or language school “Centrum Języków Romańskich”, was used to buy presents for children.
The engagement of foreign students into the event was admirable. Thanks to the hospitablilty of the authorities of IFE we could organise an artistic workshop there twice. The aim was to prepare Christmas cards for sale during Christmas Market. Also the members of ESN-EYE proved to be very helpful by preparing cakes and other delicacies sold during the fair. Moreover, the lecturers were very enthusiastic about the event and turned out to be extremely generous with their gifts for auctions. On top of that, we had an additional assistance from the Office of International Student Exchange in the event's promotion. We would like to thank very much everyone, who had an input into this project.
Integration and training trip ESN-EYE Łódź In all well prospering organisations the most important factor is cooperation and good atmosphere. For this reason, on Saturday 19.11.2011 a group of 48 members of ESNEYE went for an Integration Trip to Cesarka. After the arrival there was not much time for rest, because the workshops and trainings started immediately. At the beginning, the ESN board made a presentation about the activity of ESN-EYE. Next, all the participant were improving their skills and knowledge on interpersonal communication, finances and future thinking. The other workshops aimed at presenting the features of an ideal leader, pointing out how one should fix their own mistakes and how important the role of a single person is in the group's mission. In the evening there were integration games, chats and karaoke singing. The good mood stayed with the participant until morning, where even at breakfast people were laughing and making jokes. Students left Cesarka in a very friendly atmosphere.
“This trip, due to the combination of self-improvement process and entertainment, has very much integrated the members of ESN-EYE. Thanks to closer relations and relaxed atmosphere I believe that the organisation will now prove to be an even more effective team. The stay in Cesarka brought many benefits both to the organisation as a whole, as well as to each member individually.”
“About 50 people took part in the integration trip in Cesarka. Right after the arrival we began intense training sessions, which concerned the structure of the whole Erasmus Student Network organisation, group work, using internet tools to facilitate the work of our section, finanses and project management. Older and more experienced ESN-EYE members were very helpful with the preparations and carrying out of the presentations. Long and exhausting trainings turned out to be very fruitful, and the common trip motivated everyone even more to work together.”
Paweł Kordek – president of ESN-EYE Łódź

Central European Platform in Kraków (1 delegate) A CEP is a meeting of representatives of the sections from states of the central bloc, among others Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Hungary or Poland. The event took place on 3-6 December in Cracow, where over one hundred delegates from Europe met. During the training camp every section had a chance to present in front of others, to show results of organized projects and to share ideas and plans for the future. It was a great opportunity to get to know how other sections of our organization work, as well as in the country as abroad. Organization Committee took care of trainings and workshops for participants, among others about motivation, as well as concerning
projects such as ESN Olympics, Erasmus Day, whether next year's 25. ESN birthday Apart from the official part of the training camp, there was also a time for integration. EuroDinner was one of main entertainment event. The CEP was my first trip of this type. It was a remarkable possibility for me to get to know plenty of wonderful people and establishing new, numerous relations, it was also a great motivation for further actions. Krzysztof Podstawek (audit committee).
Świeżynki in Białystok ( 3 delegates) ESN Świeżynki is building up the image, wiping stereotypes and promoting the region. Mentioned elements are however a supporting role in this weekend project. The key is leading the unaware of the purpose people into modes of the organization, meeting the structure and prevailing principles in the organization. We spent the evening on getting familiar with each other and playing integration games. Saturday and Sunday were devoted to workshops, mainly on the case study principle,
Meetings with leaders of ESN, sharing the experiences and beginnings of building huge projects arouses the desire to take the challenge and confront with the results of organization. We recommend to support and engage in the work of ESN. It is a great chance for selfdevelopment and opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people. Amadeusz Wieteska, Świeżynka
but also concerning project of the management and the contact with people. These trainings were unusually interesting, especially for those who are willing to gain new experiences. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Mikołaj Mikołajczyk, Świeżynka

24-27 february 2012 coordinator Daria Matuszewska
Visit to second-hand clothes store, organized on the occasion of the Integration Weekend, helped its participants got to know each other even before the trip. Although the time spent together did not allow to form long-standing friendships, it was enough for people to start recognize one another. Additionally, central themes of the integrating parties and events, prepared for the weekend, were commonly known, what saved students the bother of searching for suitable costumes. Everyone was quite aware of what outfit to choose in order to look splendid during Green, 90s or Pyjamas Party.
The last weekend of the winter holidays the group of 50 foreign students as well as members of the ESN-EYE association spent on the IFE Integration Weekend in Sulejów. The Thursday afternoon after arrival went by on the integration games. In the evening the everyone gave in to the atmosphere of the forest and wearing green clothes was dancing till the crack of dawn. The main attraction of the following day was a stroll around surroundings, speed dating and evening 90s party. On Saturday students competed in the tug-of-war and other games, such as tearing off the snaps from other participants. As usual, evening was dedicated to the partying, this time in “Pyjamas Party” style. Next morning everyone suddenly realized the it was time to pack one's stuff and head back to Łódź. The goal of the trip was achieved - the participants came back integrated, satisfied and enthusiastically began the new semester aware that the university would give them many chances to bump into new acquaintances.
Erasmus students opinions: Adrien Manissolle - France “Good idea for erasmus people to meet other erasmus students and polish students from ESNEYE. It's a good introduction of the polish stay.” Sebastian Peltonen – Finland “Very nice in general, a really pleasant way to meet a lot of new people. Has made my everyday life here on campus a lot easier and more fun. I think the activities were good and easy-going enough to allow the real personalities of people to come forwards. I have attended similar ESN integration events in Finland and I must say yours was far superior to anything there, excellent work. I hope you will keep this tradition for years to come. The venue was quite rudimentary, which in my opinion is good since it had all the feats our group needed and was not too fancy to throw great hall parties.”
Academic Job Fair 2012 coordinators Justyna Kałużka and Krzysztof Podstawek The Academic Job Fair (ATP) is an annual event directed to students and graduates of our local universities as well as companies seeking young employees. It is organized by Technical University of Lodz in close collaboration with the Municipal Council of Lodz, International Lodz Fair (Międzynarodowe Targi Łódzkie), The Carrier Office of Technical University of Lodz (BK PŁ), Erasmus Student Network – European Youth Exchange Lodz (ESN-EYE Łódź) and other organizations. The main aim of the Academic Job Fair is to assure ambitious young people an opportunity to get in touch with a potential employer. Participants are given an unique chance to meet representatives of small local companies composed of only several employees as well as grand corporations dominating on international markets. On the occasion of the fair, students and graduates of all local universities can learn about what companies are expecting from them as potential employees and take a closer look on organizational culture prevailing in the firm. During the fair, visitors have the opportunity to establish direct contact with persons responsible for recruitment and to receive answers to bothering questions about the given company. During such discussions, and graduates and students increase their chances of getting dream job, while the presenting employer have the opportunity to find qualified workers and present their offer. This important for our region event abounds with workshops conducted by professional trainers. Trainings concern primarily the problem of mobility on the labor market and the development of soft skills such as self-presentation and negotiation skills. This year's Academic Job Fair was held March 27th, 2012 in Lodz International Fair Hall. It turned out to be a great success, as shown by the record to date number of companies that chose to present their offer. Hundreds of people visiting the fair will surely be able to easily find the appropriate offer both internships and traineeship, as well as full-time job. The main task of ESN-EYE was contact with the media patrons, signing contracts with partners, fair's logistics, contact with the exhibitors and the promotion of the event.
LINKS: www.facebook.com/Discover.Europe www.discovereurope.esn.pl Discover Europe (in progress) coordinator Anna Szoszkiewicz Discover Europe contest in 2012 is slowly coming to the end. Issued by us promotional stand, wandering about the recesses of the Technical University campus, attracted many students. But it was not the only way to get them interested in the subject of photography. The Photowalk, sightseeing our city with camera in hand, turned out to be a spot-on idea. Taking advantage of a good weather we set off twice. The first part was devoted to Lodz manufacturers. On our route we found the White Factory, Priest's Mill, Park 殴r贸dliska and even an old abandoned factory, which left the whole group breathless. The second part was a week later and led through the area of the Lizmannstadt Ghetto. Participants visited the Radegast station, Park of Survivors, as well as the Ten Commandments monument while enjoying original charm of Baluty district. The Photowalks certainly contributed to the photographic result we achieved - 193 pictures reported by the students from Lodz. Now we can just wait impatiently for the final gala to be held on 24th April in Music Theatre.
Discover Europe Exhibition coordinator Magdalena Skwarka On the February 23th, 2012 at 7 pm in the Student Center Artistic Initiatives in Lodz, as part of the photo contest Discover Europe 2012, the verinssage of photos from the previous edition was held. At 7.30 pm the grand opening of the exhibition took place, which aimed to show the different looks of students on Europe and to encourage them to participate in the next edition of the contest. Not only students graces us with their presence, but by people who are fanatically involved in art as well. The exhibition lasted until the March 7th, 2012.
Erasmus students opinions: Totti Pekonen - Finland The event was well organized and as a participant I felt my opinion was valued. The group visited a variety of places depending on what the participants wanted to see, within reason of course. As an idea, I think the photowalk is great. It makes it easier to visit places you normally might not and get a real feel for the city. The group moved slow enough for everyone to keep up, but also fast enough to not get bored. The organizers did their best to answer questions set by the participants. The weather was nice and I had an enjoyable afternoon.
Jeremie Bidal - France I loved that photowalk, we saw old factory, lot of parks in Lodz and the weather was perfect for visiting. It was very good idea from the organisation to make this, but after fews hours lot of people was tired, so we didn't visiting all of Lodz stuff but doesn't matter! Keep this idea for the next years!
Erasmus Welcome Party 29 february 2012 coordinator Paweł Kordek
50' & 60' Party 28 march 2012 coordinator Krzysztof Podstawek
When the hard times of exams passed by, we decided to organise Welcome Party for the new Erasmus students, who weren't participating in Integration Weekend. This time we cooperated with Pomarańcza club which prepared posters and additional promotional materials. As always Erasmus Welcome Party attracted lots of foreign as well as polish students. All the people were partying to the early morning hours.
Our next march event – 50' & 60' Party, took place in club Łódź Kaliska. We can definitely say it was a successful event. Even though it was in the middle of the week a lot of people attended. Thanks to rock'n'roll music the guests could shift back in time and fell the great atmosphere of Elvis Presley and Marylin Monroe age.
Erasmus opinion: Sebastian Peltonen – Finland “Well organized once again. I am not the biggest fan of Poma, but with this group it was a fun night after all. Had a good time and had a good chance to talk more with the ESN-EYE actives who I normally don't see too often.”
Alice Luckenbach – Italy „Perfect atmosphere '50 '60 with fancy, colored dresses for girls and leather jackets, snug trousers, brilliantine on heads for men....and of course rock and roll music. For this reason it felt like being in the grease movie! I like so much this kind of parties because they give us the possibility to plunge in different and funny atmosphere, and unfortunately in my city are not so common.”
Pub Crawl 30 march 2012 coordinators Justyna Paradowska i Magdalena Skwarka Mafia Party 16 march 2012 coordinator Krzysztof Podstawek The theme of our next party became mafia. The event took place in Ambasada club, which was taken over for one night by aspiring Dons. The party was a big success as we managed to fill the whole club which is quite big. Around 400 people had fun with us. Also the upcoming opinions of our guests were positive: Carmelo Pérez Golf - Spain “It was a great party, with good music. The site was very cool with 2 rooms and with a good temperature inside what is important because here in Poland all the places are too hot. I'd like that both rooms were full but only one was it. However, it was fine because you could relax.”
Generally speaking Pub Crawl means roaming around from one pub to another. It's a common initiative of ESNcard and SocialErasmus which strengthens the integration of polish and foreign students and helps them in getting to know the city better. The event was also supposed to promote the ESN card that provides discounts in several places. On the way we visited: Peron 6, The Mexican, Przechowalnia and Biblioteka. Thanks to good atmosphere and fun the integration lasted to late night hours. Benjamin Barre – France „It was really great because it permits us to discover other bars and also because it's always good to do erasmus party. I think it should be more events like that! “

Erasmus forest – 25 000 trees for the 25th anniversary of Erasmus program. In cooperation with ESN UŁ we will support the campaign. A group of 25 foreign students from Lodz University of Technology will plant 2000 oak trees in the Żywocin forest next to Brzeziny.
In the upcoming semester we plan to conduct International Lessons as a part of SocialErasmus program. During International Lessons Erasmus students will have a chance to present their countries, culture and traditions. We're counting on a Secondary School students who will show their interest in lessons and will keenly participate in discussions. We have to take into consideration the time needed to organise such lessons in schools as well as proper preparations for them. For us it's also a great way of promoting International Faculty of Engineering among our future potential students. SURVIVAL Trip 07.06-10.06.2012– coordinator Daria Matuszewska Survival Trip is a peculiar trip. We plan to go to Janowice Wielkie, small cottage laying in the Rudawski Scenic Park. The participants will live in tents and ESN-EYE will provide them with food. This trip apart from integration is about showing the foreign students the beauty and richness of polish nature. Imprezy planowane na najbliższe miesiące: * ESN-EYE's BIRTHDAY: -Tram Party- 70's & 80's Party * ZOO Party Inne przedsięwzięcia integracyjne: * Pub crawl * Ice skating * Bowling
Ewelina Kądrzycka, IFE student „I hope that ESN-EYE will soon amuse me with another original idea to spend a free time and gain new experience. I'm glad that Lodz University of Technology has such good-working organisation, which does its best to prepare new projects.”
