“The digitization, the interactive supports, the paper, e-readers and electronic books; finally a revolution within our grasp!”
E-PaperWorld 2010 Montréal At the core of the emerging market of an entirely digital chain of communication, we are witnessing in 2010 an unprecedented commercial and technological war between the world of the iPad, that of electronic readers with LCD screens, and that of Kindle as well as several other electronic readers using electronic paper (E ink). In Europe and Asia, as in the driving North American market that is largely dominated by Google, Apple and Amazon, in bookstores and libraries paper books, schoolbooks and newspapers, are being abandoned in favour of electronic books and readers. In Canada, particularly in Quebec, we have been catching up and investing in this field since the ANEL (l’Association nationale des éditeurs de livres du Québec) requested in 2007, the report “Les enjeux de l’édition du livre dans le monde numérique”, about issues concerning book publishing in a digital world. Now Indigo offers its electronic reader, Kobo. Quebecor Media offers the website, jelis.ca, created in collaboration with the De Marque company, the ANEL and European contributors. De Marque provides the ANEL with a digital warehouse, which contains over 3,000 titles of digitized books from Quebec. This fall, a new electronic reader from Quebec, the ExoPC, will compete with the iPad and enrich the choice of electronic readers on the Canadian market. EPC @ Partners.inc is a research and development company founded in June 2007 by Eric Le Ray Ph.D. It was incorporated in 2010 with the help of his collaborators, Franck Ferrandis, Pascal Delepine, Guy Millière and Gilles Lucas. Thanks to this French and Canadian team, EPC is observing the development of technology in the realm of media evolution: from printed publishing to electronic paper (E-ink) and electronic tablet computers (LCD). These new media are part of the process of convergence and mobility. EPC @ Partners.inc. publishes the E-PaperWorld Magazine through its publishing company, EPC @ Édition numérique, and has created an international observatory, OBS@E-PAPER. Finally, the first editions of the international forum E-PaperWorld were held in Montreal (Canada) in September 2009 and in Paris (France) in May 2010, presenting conferences, round tables, workshops and a trade fair. We invite you to join us for the third edition of E-PaperWorld at the Université du Québec à Montréal on December 1st to 3rd, 2010. Three Professionals’ Choice Prizes will be awarded for innovation. Three Public’s Choice Prizes will be awarded as well, based on visitors’ votes: a prize for best electronic reader, another for the best software and a prize for the company offering the best intelligent digital solutions in the fields of publishing or journalism. A special prize for innovation, the E-PaperWorld 2010 Montreal Prize will be given to a company in recognition of its excellence, its reputation, the quality of its service and its innovative character. Visitors will also have a chance to win a draw for one or more electronic readers. We are looking forward to meeting you at the E-PaperWorld forum! Here you will find the general programme for this new Professional forum:
