Make the most of raising money for your local charity…

How we joined our pubs by stepping up and helping the local community.

Our chosen charity, the Trussell Trust, supports a national network of 1,240 food banks across the UK. During last year a number of fund raising activities took place, but December saw 14 NewRiver shopping centres introduce food donation points in their malls. These donation points provide accessible and convenient points for visitors to deposit donations to support those in crisis in the local community.

The teams also held festive raffles with all proceeds going to the Trussell Trust. Prizes such as iPads, theatre tickets, sunglasses and sports memorabilia were donated and in total £2645.00 was raised, bringing the total amount raised in 2019 to over £40,000.

The Hawthorn Leisure team supported Kingfisher Foodbank at their Tesco food drive and helped collect donations weighing 1632kg.

The team at NewRiver lent a hand at Hackney Foodbank and spent the morning sorting donations and preparing emergency food packs.

Choosing a charity

Why not ask your regulars what charity is important in the local community to them. There may be a kids sports team that needs funds, or a cancer hospice. If you are raising money for a local cause which is close to peoples hearts it will really bring your community together and your pub will most certainly become the hub! Run a Quiz Night

Why not run a fun Quiz Night, charge a ticket price for all players and donate the proceeds to charity. If you run one a month, this could really mount up!

Themed Music Night

The Trussell Trust supports a national network of 1,240 food bank centres who in the last financial year, 2018/2019, provided 1.6 million emergency three-day food parcels to people living in crisis; more than half a million of these were children. www.trusselltrust.org

Based on the average age of your regulars, choose a certain decade of music to enjoy a themed music night. You can host a fun 80’s night for example, make it fancy dress and ask people to donate.

Off the marks…March, April and May also bring is a packed racing calendar from the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Grand National and Chester Races. Make it easy for your customers to stay in the pub by providing racing papers, and consider running a pub sweepstake When decorating your pub, think outside the box. We love the valentines decorations seen at the Nevile Arms.
