EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2021

A watch means that conditions are favorable for severe storm/tornado development. Take these actions when a watch is issued: • Secure items that could be blown away in high winds. • Continue to monitor the weather for any changes or additional alerts. • Be prepared to unplug your electric cord from the electric pedestal. • If camping by your aircraft, make sure it is tied down securely. You may not use “dog leash” tiedowns to secure your aircraft.

WEATHER WARNING

A warning means that dangerous weather is threatening the area. It is important for you to monitor weather conditions and not just rely on the sirens to be sounded to notify you of imminent severe weather.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

A severe thunderstorm warning is issued when winds reach 58 mph or greater and hail has been measured 3/4 inch in diameter. • Take shelter in your camper. • If you are in a tent or small camper (e.g., a pop-up), take shelter in your vehicle. • If a shelter or vehicle is not available, find a low spot away from trees, fences, and poles, but make sure the spot is not prone to flash flooding. If you cannot avoid trees, try to stay in the area of shorter trees. Cover your head with your hands and lie down on the ground.

TORNADO WARNING

A tornado warning is issued when a tornado has been spotted or indicated by radar. County emergency sirens will be activated when a warning has been issued for the area. • Move away from your camper and find a ditch, depression, or low area and lie down, covering your head with your hands. • As a last choice, secure yourself in your vehicle, with the vehicle running so that the air bags can be deployed (if your vehicle has air bags). Keep your head lower than the vehicle windows and cover your head with your hands.

City Of Oshkosh Fire Department Cooking stoves in transient aircraft camping areas: • Do not leave campsite areas without completely extinguishing stove. • No charcoal or wood campfires. • Careful use of white gas or propane camp stoves is allowed in aircraft camping, provided they are used in an area well away from parked aircraft and that the stove is attended at all times. It is strongly recommended that aircraft near the stove be checked for any fuel fumes or leakage, and the stove be elevated above ground level. • Cooking stoves must be a safe distance (10 feet) away from any aircraft. • In the event that the conditions on Wittman Regional Airport and the EAA grounds change drastically before or during the convention, a more restrictive decision may be made regarding cooking stoves.

The growth of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is tremendous, but it’s led to some logistical challenges. Due to the unique nature of the event, final AirVenture prep work is taking place while thousands of people are arriving on the grounds with their airplanes, motor homes, and other camping equipment. To improve safety, security, and mobility in these final hectic days before AirVenture opening day, the policies previously put in place leading up to AirVenture will continue to be in effect. These procedures will be in place from Thursday, July 22, through Sunday, July 25.

Thank you for your cooperation! This policy is undertaken with safety foremost in mind. There is a tremendous amount of work that must be completed in the final days before AirVenture opens, and we want to give our staff, volunteers, exhibitors, and vendors every opportunity to safely and effectively prepare for the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration.

aerial application’s growing role

NOW RECRUITING & CELEBRATING 100 YEARS visit the ag plane display at Booth #457 Aerial application, an industry that has been progressively evolving now for 100 years, is an exciting field of aviation that aids farmers in producing a safe, affordable and abundant supply of food, fiber and bioenergy; protects forests from fire and pests; and protects the public health by combating diseasecarrying mosquitos and other potentially lethal insects. Opportunities are available for a new generation of ag pilots to step forward and provide the aerial application services America’s farmers depend on and to help growing and expanding the industry for years to come. Becoming an ag pilot isn’t easy, but it is worth it.
