Version 14 -
Having lost my mother at the age of 11 years old to AIDS and then her mother, who rasied me, in 2005 – I often find myself without a clear direction of how to proceed as a woman in “today’s modern world”. The family photo albums have often been a place that I look back to for visual cues and references about how this life has been lived by others previously. My conclusion through this process of reference and reflection has been that there will always be patterns which are inately and inherently repeated, however each of us as individuals must ulitmately find our own way through life. I find myself now living a life full of inspiration and creativity as a “single mother artist”, I find joy in the monotonous daily grind which it takes to provide a good life for my daughter and I at the same time I challenge the traditonal roles of women in society and our current culture.
