Cicero woman, 100, dies in Christmas Eve fire Multiple fire departments responded to a fire at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 24 at 5657 Central Ave. in Cicero. Upon arrival, Cicero and Clay firefighters made entry in the single-story ranch home and located Mary A. Howard, 100, in a rear bedroom. Immediate lifesaving measures were performed by Navac ambulance at the scene, but Howard was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. Agencies reporting to the scene included the Town of Cicero Police Department, Village of North Syracuse Police Department, along with the Cicero Fire Department, South Bay Fire Department, North Syracuse Fire Department, Brewerton Fire Department, Bridgeport Fire Department, Clay Fire Department, Mattydale Fire Department, Liverpool Fire Department, Navac Ambulance and Brewerton Ambulance The Cicero Police Department and Onondaga County Fire Investigators are currently investigating the structure fire/ As of press time it was reported that the fire did not appear to be suspicious.

Members of the Liverpool High School I Am Norm Aktion Club recently took over the Kohl’s on Route 31 to shop for families in need. The club, with the help of the LHS Parent Teacher Student Organization, received a $2000 Kohl’s Shopping Grant, which they used to purchase items for Joseph’s House for Women. Located in Syracuse, Joseph’s House provides a safe home and family environment to mothers and their children. Prior to their shopping trip to Kohl’s, the I Am Norm Aktion Club made a shopping list (and checked it twice in the store.) They purchased items such as robes, bedding, blankets, pots and pans, vacuum cleaners and toys for Joseph’s House residents. Even better, the group earned $340 in Kohl’s Cash that will be used to adopt a Liverpool family for the holidays. Afterward, the LHS I Am Norm Aktion Club celebrated their efforts by stopping at Chick-fil-A, which donated 25 meals to the group. While there they learned more about Joseph’s House and the school’s adopt a family efforts.

North Syracuse swears in new police officers
The Village of North Syracuse welcomed three new police officers. On Nov. 30 three new members were sworn into the North Syracuse Police Department. The North Syracuse Police Department announced the addition of Brittany Meyer, Joseph Cooke, and Khiem Nguyen to the police agency. Meyer and Cooke, recruit offi-
cers, will attend a 26-week police academy in the near future and then begin their field training and evaluation program. Nguyen, also a recruit officer, is currently completing basic course for police officer training before entering his field training and evaluation program.

The Liverpool Dollars for Scholars online application process for students in the Class of 2024 opened on December 15, 2023. If you know Liverpool High School seniors who plan to further their education, please encourage them to apply for more than 180 scholarships that range in value from $500 - $2,000. Many of our scholarships have no criteria while others seek applicants who attended specific elementary/middle schools; plan certain majors/career fields including the trades; participated in the arts, school/ community service, or athletics; etc. All LHS seniors and parents/guardians received a list of scholarships arranged by criteria as well as instructions and helpful tips for completing the online application process. Scholarship winners attend two-year and four-year colleges and universities, technical institutes, trade schools, hospital nursing and other health related programs, adult BOCES programs, and apprenticeships. Every graduating LHS student in the Class of 2024 bound for some form of higher education is urged to apply. January 2024 graduates and students who attend off-site BOCES programs are eligible for our scholarships. Some colleges will match the scholarship. The odds are good for those who apply. During the last few years, about 90% of applicants were awarded scholarships or selected as alternates. Many alternates eventually received a scholarship. While it takes time to complete the online application, it’s worth the effort. The money can be applied toward non-tuition expenses – fees, room, board, books, and educational supplies. Despite post-Covid and economic challenges, we awarded 178 scholarships worth nearly $136,000 to LHS students in the Class of 2023. The online application submission deadline is 11:59 p.m. on March 6, 2024. Students can go to liverpool.dollarsforscholars.org to complete a profile and apply for scholarships. Taste of DDE HELD

Donlin Drive Elementary recently hosted The Taste of DDE, an event to celebrate its diverse school community. DDE families participated in a potluck dinner, sharing meals that are traditional to their family’s culture. Liverpool High School Key Club members helped served families and staff serve the food. There also were performances by Irish, Indian, Ukrainian and Latin dancers, and activities provided by the LHS Muslim Student Association. The DDE school community represents more than 30 different countries. In addition, families at the school speak more than 20 different languages. “This was an opportunity for our students and families to share and educate others regarding their heritage and aspects of their culture,” said DDE school counselor Joelle Feinberg. “Through this event, we are celebrating and encouraging appreciation of our rich, diverse population, to spread cultural awareness and to foster an inclusive, welcoming environment for all.”

OBITUARIES John S. Palmer, 91
Built Austin Park basketball courts
Saint Albans, Vermont – John “Jack” Stuart Palmer, 91, a 17year St Albans, VT, resident, passed away on Dec. 24, 2023, at the McClure-Miller Respite House in Colchester, VT. Jack was born on Oct. 5, 1932, and grew up in Skaneateles. In high school he was student council president and a member of the basketball team that won 75 straight league games. He worked and earned his way through St. Lawrence University. While there he joined the SAE fraternity, was a captain of the basketball team and president of the senior class.
He completed the ROTC program and spent two years in the Army, including 16 months in Korea. Jack earned his masterss degree at Springfield College, where he met Susan, his wife of almost 66 years. They raised three sons and have six grandchildren. He was a physical education teacher, athletic director, coached various sports and was a guidance counselor. During each summer he painted houses until he retired from education. His sons worked with him during summers while they were in high school and college. Most of the family years were spent in Skaneateles. During that time, he joined Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce, was a town justice and sold real estate for Wil-
liams Realty after retirement. He also built the outdoor basketball courts in Austin Park (Jack Palmer Courts) and founded the Bill DeLaney Youth Basketball Program. His influence with Skaneateles youth basketball spanned the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Golf was a fun and competitive part of his life. Jack was a member of the Skaneateles Country Club and Champlain Country Club in St. Albans for many years. Jack is predeceased by his parents, John Stuart “Stu” Palmer and Laura Ludington Palmer, and his sister Margaret “Peggy” Major. Jack is survived by his wife Susan “Sue” White Palmer; sons Jeffrey (Robin) and their children Ben and Carolyn; Peter (Sarah) and their children Trent and Holly; and Scott (Lynne) and their children

A new year
By the time readers get their papers we will be in 2024. It is not uncommon for people to see the start of a new year and wonder what happened to the previous year. There are times, particularly like New Year’s Day, when we take the time to reflect and look back and it can seem like time, a year, 365 days, have all flown by all too fast. We may stop and wonder how that happened, how did that time go by so fast and what was I doing? In some ways it is easy to understand. We all know how busy life gets with work, children and all the myriad responsibilities that we all face in our day to day lives. The start of a new year can be a time to see the imperfections of the previous year, but it is also a time that presents an opportunity. Perhaps the most important is the opportunity to focus on the positive and the possibilities as we being 2024. With this in mind, a common resolution in the new year is to make more time to enjoy the little things and to try to enjoy and appreciate things and be more in the moment. While it can be viewed as an arbitrary date on the calendar, we do place a special emphasis on the new year and the chance to make some changes and improvements as the new year presents us with a clean slate so to speak. There is of course the actual rejuvenation that is taking place. It is painstakingly slow, but each day is getting a little longer and the sun will be in the sky more and more as we get one step closer to the spring each day. But it is a more metaphorical emphasis we tend to place on the new year. It is often a time to make a fresh start, make some changes, hopefully changes for the better, and the new year give us that little push we need to take that first step. With a new year comes new hope and new possibilities and something of a fresh start, a time to put an emphasis on those personal objectives and really try to get to make the changes we want to see in our lives. While there is never a bad time to decide to make some positive changes in your life, whether it is the new year or not, if this time serves as inspiration grab this opportunity. If you have decided it is time to exercise more, be more active, eat healthier, quit smoking or some other bad habit, travel more, make more time for family, become more involved in community organizations, use this inspiration for all it is worth and put your plans in motion. Statistics say only about eight percent of people keep their resolutions and 80 percent or more resolutions are broken by February. There is no doubt that change can be difficult and challenging and there will be setbacks and limitations, even for the best intended changes. But as cliché as it is, the journey of a thousand miles does start with just one step, and gradually one step will follow the other and with a little luck you will find yourself making the changes you want in your life. We hope your 2024 is off to a good start and the year will bring you much joy and happiness and you will find what you need to make the changes and live the life you want in the new year.

Holding on to his cart in which one could easily see his cane, the fellow’s hand was visibly shaking as he pushed himself to stretch a bit further toward the floor so that he could grab the escaped cucumber. blocked the aisle with our deliberations. Or I could just push by around him as he struggled or make a sharp turn to the right to enter the next aisle. Nothing like ignoring a problem, hoping it would just go away. But there is always the thought of Sister Mary Robert and her ilk to bring
right behavior to the issue. While all of this was filling my brain with “what if ’s,’ a little girl, about 6 or 7 years old ran in front of me, picked up the cucumber and gave it to the struggling man who in turn courteously thanked her and her parents. I just knew that there were those who thought “she (meaning me) should have done something” or, more sadly, have I been relegated to that part of humanity as no longer capable, bordering on the edge of “Poor thing.” Another random thought: Maybe I needed to hydrate so that I could get through the store and purchase the things that I came for. If I could remember them all. Hmmm. I wonder what I would have done if my brain still worked, or if my cane had a sharp point on the end, sharp enough to stab the escaped vegetable. state is insisting that we drop the name “Warriors.” Anyhow, I suggested a few possibilities, including one of my more serious suggestions, Liverpool Lancers. According to former LHS Athletic Director George Mangicaro, the teams were indeed called the Lancers sometime prior to 1966 or so. Mangicaro was AD when Liverpool changed its mascot from a Native American warrior to a Roman warrior. “I have a question for the state and others wanting the change,” Mangicaro wrote in an email, “why didn’t the state tell Liverpool they had to change the nickname when we changed the mascot? Now, after 20-plus years that name is suddenly objectionable.” Mangicaro puts the high-school controversy in perspective by comparing it to some professional sports monikers. “How can the state give millions of dollars to the Buffalo Bills when they encourage the ‘Bills Mafia?’ Isn’t that term, Mafia, offensive to Italians?” The longtime football coach and AD thinks local taxpayers should be the ones to decide such things, not state bureaucrats or special-interest groups. “How is it possible that a very small group of people, the Onondaga Nation, can tell us what nicknames we may not use,” Mangicaro asked. “I guess the taxpayers in Liverpool have no say, while non-taxpayers can call the shots.”

To the editor: When I was first elected to the New York State Senate, Albany had promise. Most sbvenators on both sides of the aisle had integrity and put the interests of everyday New Yorkers as their top priority. In the years since my retirement, so much has changed. Elected officials are acting out of contempt for political rivals, and more importantly, against the best interests of their constituents. I am appalled at where New York State is headed, and it’s time to end one-party New York City rule in the State Senate and restore our community’s voice in the
halls of Albany. When I met Nick Paro many years ago, I saw his commitment to making our area a better place to live. OBITUARIES Byron Richards, 91
Retired from Welch Allyn Byron Richards, 91, of Hendersonville, NC, formally of Skaneateles, died Saturday Dec. 16, 2023, at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, NC. Byron was born Oct. 30, 1932, in Akron, N.Y., to the late Robert Joseph and Helen Richards. He was a graduate of General Motors Institute with a degree in mechanical engineering. He spent 15 years at General Motors. In 1968 Byron moved to Skaneateles where he worked 20 years in the newly created Fiber Optic Division at Welch Allyn and earned a patent for the flexible cord fiber optic bar code reader which is a part of our everyday lives today. He retired in 1988 and relocated to Hendersonville, NC. Byron was an avid collector of conifers and created, with his wife Hazel, an impressive arboretum that was visited by tour buses several times a year. Byron was a marathon runner and hiker. With a goal of reaching the highest peak in each of the 50 states, he completed 29, many over 10,000 feet. Byron was a fine craftsman, having built his dream home with his wife Hazel. Everyone loved Byron. Byron is survived by his wife Hazel

OBITUARIES Helen Dobrovosky, 91 Expert knitter and quilter
Helen Georgia Schillawski Dobrovosky, 91, of Skaneateles, died Dec. 20, 2023. Helen was born in Auburn on May 6, 1932, to Henry and Lola Schillawski. After graduating high school in 1950, she attended business school and was employed by Red Star until 1960 when she married George Dobrovosky and moved to Hencoop Road in Skaneateles.
Helen then worked for over 50 years as a secretary/bookkeeper for the family business, Dobrovosky Excavation. She and George raised five children and remained devoted to one another until his passing in 2003. Helen was a faithful New York Yankee fan, but she was an even bigger fan of her children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. She attended countless contests and with her notebook and pen in hand, meticulously recorded stats. Helen was an expert knitter and

Last week I received an e-mail from a “gentlemen golfer” who is spending the Winter in Florida with his wife. This particular “gentlemen golfer” has a life long reputation of being trustworthy with impeccable character and therefore, I had no reason to believe he would send me anything but reliable information about a fellow CNY golfer we both know. The information, if made public, would be damaging to his family and also to the other person who was involved and who would certainly lose her job if the information were true. He asked me to verify the story before he took official action with the Board of Governors of the CNY private country club, whose location was to remain confidential. I told him I would do what I could to verify the story. No names will be used to protect the innocent. The story.....
For the last several years, a man who is a member at a CNY private country club was having an affair with an Italian women who was working at the club. One night, she confided in him that she was pregnant. Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, he offered to pay the woman a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to secretly have the child. He added, that if she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would also provide child support until the child turned 18. The Italian woman agreed, but asked how he would know when the baby was born. To keep it discrete, he told the woman to simply mail him a post card and write “Spaghetti” on the back of the card. Donald E. Cox, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023. while at the Iroquois Nursing Home. Born March 14, 1937, to Harry and Mildred Hannum Cox, Donald was a lifelong resident of Skaneateles. He was an Army veteran along with being an avid golfer, hunter, carpenter, storyteller, pitch player and a friend to many. He loved to spoil his animals and raised everything from dogs to cats to pheasants. Not only was he a lifelong resident of Skaneateles he also worked for the village of Skaneateles up until his retirement. He was always one who enjoyed helping those that asked or needed it. Donald spent the past few years at Camillus Ridge Terrace where he was well taken care of. Liverpool, C-NS win ahead of holidays by Phil Blackwell
Everything the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse boys basketball teams did after their Dec. 15 overtime clash suggested that these two sides remained the Class AAA favorites. The Warriors’ last game before the holiday break took place Dec. 22 against East Syracuse Minoa, yet another instance of defense serving as the primary catalyst as Liverpool rolled to a 58-37 victory over the Spartans. Sitting at no. 17 in the state Class AAA rankings, the Warriors paid full
attention to ESM, taking charge with a first quarter where it made several defensive steps and produced enough to build a 17-6 lead. Steadily adding to that margin the rest of the way, Liverpool was led by Freddie Fowler’s 16 points as Alex Trombley got nine points. Jeff Manuel had eight points, with Owen Michaud adding seven points and Giancarol Galimi earning six points. To pace ESM, Anthony Bryant had 10 points and Tyler Quarry got nine points. Meanwhile, C-NS, fresh off a tough
win at West Genesee on Dec. 19, met PSLA-Fowler two nights later and responded quite well to an uneven start, going on to defeat the Falcons 81-49 and improve its mark to 6-1. Hot early shooting helped Fowler gain a 19-16 advantage through one period, but that changed in the second quarter as C-NS cranked up its defense and forced turnovers that led to plenty of easy baskets. The 29-9 blitz gave the Northstars the edge, and it kept on going, led again by Andrew Benedict, who poured in 28 points, including four 3-pointers.
Nate Francis connected three times beyond the arc on his way to 15 points. Rosco Polos had eight points, with Michael Sellin (seven points) and Ryan Becker (six points) both setting season marks. Having moved up to no. 18 in the state AAA poll, one spot behind Liverpool, C-NS would test itself playing Utica Proctor at the Nexus Center as the Warriors (7-1) were off, ready to resume Wednesday hosting Auburn just as the Northstars were facing Fayetteville-Manlius.

From Taylor Page on the oval to Nyquez Madison in the jumping events, each of the Liverpool indoor track and field teams would have winning performances during the Dec. 22 Westhill Invitational at SRC Arena. For Page’s part, she ran in the featured girls race, the 600-meter invitational. Pushed hard by Baldwinsville’s Kamryn Barton, Page would go from fourth to first in the final lap and, in one minute, 39.75 seconds, edge out the personal-best 1:40.21 from Barton. Victorious in the boys triple jump, Madison added to his win total in that event, his best effort of 41 feet 5 ¾ inches enough to hold off the season-best 41’1 3/4” from B’ville’s Logan Zapf. Another win came in the girls 4x200 relay, the Warriors seeing Mikayla Greene, Mia Wright, Caitlyn Guilfoil and Maddie Devendorf cover the distance in 1:49.34 to edge B’ville’s 1:49.70 and take it. Greene took fourth in the 55-meter dash, her 7.62 seconds topping Wright (7.67) in fifth place as Devendorf was
eighth and Nahia Battle-Crenshaw ninth, both going 7.83. Elsewhere on the girls side, Addison Ziegler was second in the full-field 600 in 1:47.74 to Solvay’s Rachel Willsey (1:47.25) as eighth-grader Jahynasia Jordan took fifth in 1:49.43. This was after Ziegler got third in the 1,000meter run in 3:13.37, with Chloe Ryan fifth in 3:22.80. Layla Pearl Collins, clearing 8’6”, was second in the pole vault to B’ville’s Kelsey Dwyer and her 9-foot best. Devendorf added a sixth-place long jump of 15’2 1/2”. Kaitlyn Hotaling earned fourth place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:00.39. Madison finished seventh in the boys 55-meter dash, where Kyle Schmalenberg took third in 6.87 seconds, not far from the winning 6.82 by Elmira’s Ben Rhode. Schmalenberg, Madison, Maltrin Ramadani and Robert Jones rose to third place in the 4x200 in 1:38.51, edging fourth-place Westhill by inches. Roman Murray, in 2:47.80, held off teammate J.T. Goss (2:49.57) for fourth in the 1,000 as Nate Aurello (2:51.96) also finished in the top 10. Ian Sher-
lock added a fifth in the 600 in 1:31.77 as Liverpool had a seventh-place time of 3:54.24 in the 4x400/. Adetomiwa Adefashola emerged in the high jump, clearing 5’4” for the first time to tie for seventh place, with Kaden Bickford topping 8’6” to share seventh in the pole vault as Brayden Smith was ninth (17’10 1/2”) in the long jump. Cicero-North Syracuse competed during the holiday break, its girls team finishing second out of 36 teams in the CNY Holiday Classic at Utica University with 90 points, behind only Guilderland’s 142. Victorious in the girls 55 sprint, Jaydin Mackey went 7.38 seconds to edge the 7.39 from Guilderland’s Kendall Barnhart and 7.40 of Colonie’s Mariah Durenay, while Marissa Doty dominated the 300, her 42.36 the only time under 43 seconds. Then, paired together in the 4x400, Doty and Mackey, joined by Katy Harbold and Grace Murray, roared to victory in 4:12.93, well clear of the 4:20.44 from runner-up Shenendehowa. Anna Eells won the triple jump,
going 38’5”to finish nearly two feet ahead of any other competitor, and also took second in the 55 hurdles in 8.58 seconds with Aaliyah McDonald third in 8.65. Gianna Melfi, Samantha Moreno, Selena Moreno and Stephanie Todd were second in the 4x200 in 1:52.15. Kennedy Jones went 10:43.78 for third in the 3,000 before Cameron Sisk’s third-place finish in the 1,000 in 3:09.09 and Harbold getting third in the 600 in 1:43.32. C-NS took fifth in the 4x800 in 10:39.23 as Maria Sanfilippo was eighth in the weight throw. The C-NS boys finished ninth at Utica with 29 points, highlighted by Kavon Brunson going 8.066 seconds to edge the 8.070 of Colonie’s Nick Rushford and win the 55 hurdles. Eight more points camefrom Dante Melfi going 1:27.94 for second place in the 600. Davine Bennett got fourth place in the 55 sprint in 6.89 seconds, with Joe Main throwing the shot put 47 feet for fifth place and Jefferson Cazimir seventh in the triple jump with a personal-best 39’4 1/4”.
C-NS girls hoops score big win over Bishop Ludden by Phil Blackwell
Facing its second game against a top Class AAA contender in as many weeks, this time it was the CiceroNorth Syracuse girls basketball team making the comeback to earn an important victory. The state Class AAA no. 13-ranked Northstars’ 51-43 win over Bishop Ludden on Dec. 21 was impressive on several levels, from the quality of the opposition to the fact that C-NS was short-handed during the game’s pivotal moments. One starter, Grace Villnave, was out. Then an injury sidelined another starter, Olivia Cook, before halftime as the two sides battled to a near-standstill and the Northstars trailed 20-19 at the break. Both teams got more productive in the third quarter, but C-NS still found itself trailing 38-34. Yet it was here that the Northstars would play its best on
both ends. From a series of key defensive stops to a go-ahead 3-pointer by Kat McRobbie-Taru, the Northstars seized control and earned its second strong win of the week to go with one two days earlier against West Genesee. McRobbie-Taru finished with 17 points as she and Jilly Howell, who had 12 points, hit on a pair of 3-pointers. Leah Benedict added nine points as, for Ludden, Jordyn Townes led the way with 11 points. Liverpool, no. 8 in the most recent state AAA rankings, was far away from all this, playing in the KSA Events Tournament in Orlando, Florida, and taking its first defeat of the season against high-level competition in the Purple Bracket. The Warriors made it through the first round Dec. 20 against James Madison (Virginia), winning 43-29 by dealing well with a slower tempo and overcoming a season-low six points from
A’briyah Cunningham. Strong defense carried Liverpool all the way through. Only Angelina Kohler, with 10 points, hit double figures, Kaylyn Sweeney adding seven points and Sophie Sageer getting six points. A close battle with Horizon (Colorado) followed a day later, but the Warriors, despite a lot of offensive improvement, took its first loss of the season 56-52 to the Hawks. Cunningham drew a lot of defensive attention and earned eight of her 16 points at the free-throw line. Sweeney gained 12 points, with Gianna Washington adding nine points. In the third-place game Dec. 22 against Signal Mountain (Tennessee), Liverpool took control with a tremendous third-quarter performance, ultimately defeating the Eagles 59-45. Most of an 18-12 first-quarter advantage had gone away when, clinging to a 28-26 lead at the break, the Warriors cranked up its defensive pressure
at the outest of the second half, forced turnovers and converted them into baskets. The 25-11 push was something Signal Mountain could not answer as Cunningham finished with 18 points and Gracie Sleeth stepped up with a season-best 15 points. Kohler, with eight points, and Sweeney, with seven points, helped out. Now Liverpool could enjoy some rest, while C-NS would make its way east for back-to-back games against Albany Academy (no. 2 in the state Class B rankings) and Averill Park (no. 5 in the state Class AA poll). Even with Cook and Villnave back in the lineup, the Northstars lost 62-41 to Albany Academy, a close game broken open when AA outscored C-NS 19-5 in the third quarter. McRobbie-Taru had 11 points and Howell 10 points, with Cook and Benedict each getting seven points.
C-NS wrestlers rout Liverpool, win at B’ville Duals by Phil Blackwell
Already this season, the Cicero-North Syracuse wrestling team has demonstrated to all of its neighbors that it still possesses a roster capable of outclassing any opponent, especially the familiar ones. Dec. 20 brought the renewal of the rival between C-NS and Liverpool, but it decidedly went in the Northstars’ favor as, with a full roster and plenty of strong mat efforts, it beat the Warriors 54-15. Though it was Liverpool getting the jump at 138 pounds when Marek Sokolowski was able to pin
Luke Hogue near the midway point of the third period, the Warriors had just two wins the rest of the night. And while it did help that Austin Hartman (190 pounds), Joe Kozubowski (215 pounds) and Anthony Lisi (108 pounds) got forfeits for the Northstars, it still won plenty of contested bouts, too. Kennedy Thomas (145 pounds), pinning Will Cowan in the second period, seemed to be the start of a streak where Jacob Day (152 pounds) battled past Lantz Herrera 6-1 and Zion Mukasa (160 pounds) pinned Ryan Heneka at the end of the second period.
Three more pins followed. In 98 seconds, Kamdin Bembry, at 285 pounds, finished off David Blue Moore, with Kasey Kalfass (101 pounds) pinning Jude Atchie in 29 seconds and Anthony Ciciarelli (116 pounds) getting his fall over Paolo Munetz in 82 seconds. It ended at 131 pounds when Javone Dawkins held off Connor Rice 9-5. Liverpool’s other wins came when Dante Malozzi, at 170 pounds, edged Kaydin Welch 5-3, and Gavin Connolly (124 pounds) pinned Aaron Westcott midway trough the second period. C-NS went from here to a short trip to Baldwinsville
for the Bees’ dual meet on Dec. 23 where the Northstars would sweep through the entire competition. At the outset, the Northstars topped Vernon-VeronaSherrill 51-19, then followed by winning a tough 41-27 battle with Marcellus where it trailed 27-26 with three bouts left, but swept them thanks to pins by Ciciarelli and Dawkins. In between, Aaron Westcott (124 pounds) gaining a tough 5-2 decision over Jack Burton. A 57-16 rout of Corning followed, with pins from Dawkins, Kalfass, Hogue and Hartman, along with a close 145-pound opener
where Thomas edged Matt Mahon 6-5. Then, after handling Dryden 63-9 with seven pins from Kalfass, Ciciarelli, Hogue, Thomas, Bembry, Kozubowski and Mason Indick (131 pounds), C-NS completed the sweep by beating Section V’s Webster Schroeder 38-18. Hartman outscored Ashton Allen 10-7 before pins by Bembry at 215 and Kozubowski at 285. Kalfass pinned Aiden Vollmer, with Dawkins, moving to 124, beat Zach Gaura 9-4 and Hogue pulling out a 6-5 decision over Virgil Joseph.
