Students participate in extracurricular activities Written by: Jake Mendoza Photo by : Brittany Hines
Debate, DECA, FCA, Theater,FCCLA, Stuco, Sports Marketing, Band, Newspaper: these are a few examples of clubs that a student can join to get more involved for the school’s family. “Debate has helped me so much throughout high school it’s guided me to find my identity as a student and another motivation for my grades to go up i’ve met so many cool people from debate, I always say that if it weren’t for debate I probably would’ve dropped out of school,” Junior Isaac Keller said. Debate is one of the more popular clubs that students can join and also compete against other schools for awards to attempt to go to state. Debate is where multiple individuals stand on a stage in front of judges and an audience to argue over certain topics depending on the students category they are in. “Debate has opened the door for a bunch of opportunities for the future and has helped me become more outspoken and able to talk in front of an audience,
Whitney Wilson is preparing to go to nationals after her recent state victory. The debate squad has has a recent tidal wave of sucess in the recent years. “I am very blessed to have won state and can’t wait for what the future has in store for me ,” Junior Whitney Wilson said.

Everyone around you is so intelligent whether it’s the competitors or your own team,” Junior Whitney Wilson said. Wilson recently won a state title for the National Forensic League and hopes to continue her success into her last year of high school. “Running a club is a lot of hard work but I was a DECA alumni and when I got this job teaching business I decided to become the sponsor for DECA and the rest is history,” teacher Kristen Hitner said. Hitner and students just returned from DECA Nationals in Nashville, and plans to continue running DECA. “FCCLA has opened the door for great opportunities and I hope to continue doing this hard work throughout my highschool career and have an impact hopefully on my future occupation,” Freshman Nina Infranca said.

Finals week is here! How are you going to study for finals?
Over the years, students have always found new and creative ways to make studying for finals less boring. Computers have made studying for finals much easier with access to google or other sources.
All high schools have to take finals and with final dates right around the corner, many student are at a loss or just plain tired of taking tests. “The most stressful thing about finals is probably what big deal they are. They’re always so much of your grade so that is difficult,” former LNHS student, Kendall Miller said. Many teachers hate tests as much as students, and give them projects instead. “I prefer tests, simply because I perform better with them,” Junior Joseph Duncan said. Some students prefer tests, while others prefer projects. “I prefer projects. They’re
less stress and you can work in groups,” Junior Kaylee Chase said. Each student has a different method they use to study. “Usually I just go over the material, sometimes find problems online if it’s math,” Miller said about how she studied for finals in high school. So what can you do to prepare for finals? “Get sleep, staying up all night and studying is useless without enough rest,” Miller said. While sleep is important, it’s also important not to overwork yourself. “Over studying is just as bad as not studying at all,” Duncan said. Time to get ready for finals.

David Young is the theatre teacher. He seems to teach something he is passionate about. “There is a lot more to it then just acting. We teach stagecraft, Technical theatre, advanced theatre, and competitive theatre. These courses cover everything: Makeup application, lighting design, scenic construction, acting dancing, theatre management, sound, rigging, flying, etc.” Young said. Young says he always wanted to be a teacher. “ I always wanted to be a teacher and I loved producing theatre so the two seemed to work out perfectly for me.” Young has a hands-on approach to teaching. “I take a hands on approach to theatre and I think students like this approach. It’s much more fun to do theatre than to talk about it. I’ve been very pleased with the students at North in the theatre program because they are all very nice and

supportive of one another. I’ve taught in the district for 23 years and these are the nicest students I’ve ever had,” Young said. “I believe that performing in front of people and working hard help build self-esteem. Theatre definitely does both of these. Theatre can help anyone who has to speak in front of a group: Lawyer, teacher, salesman, etc. No. Sometimes quiet, reserved people are the best actors and technicians,” Young said. Overall Theatre is a place to help people be better at expressing themselves it seems. Theatre is more then just fancy lights, makeup, or clothes. It’s about teamwork, and growing as a group with people who you probably thought you would never know or be friends with, and it would all be because of theatre.

Volleyball is the Big Picture
Thomson is serving the ball during a game. Thomson is one of the team’s best servers. “I have always enjoyed serving” Sophomore Lauren Thomson said.
Written by: Wyatt Travis Photo by: Stephanie Thomson The game of volleyball is not for everyone, but just like everything else if people set goals they can be accomplished, and if goals are set and someones skill set is high enough the sport of volleyball may be for them. “This will be my fifth year of volleyball,” Sophomore Lauren Thomson said, Thompson started playing in a church league in seventh grade and has played club and school volleyball ever since. “I love the game, I enjoy playing with friends and playing as a team. Being a part of a team with many of the same girls has been awesome, we have all grown together, but this past year I was put on a different team with only one girl I knew,” Thomson said. Many things can change over the years such as friends, teams, feelings, and thoughts. “At first it was just something fun to do, but soon after the game become something
that I wanted to improve and try to be the best,” Thomson said. Club volleyball and high school are very different things. School volleyball mainly is just something fun to do in the fall because it is not as competitive but can keep anyone in shape for club. “I enjoy club volleyball more because it turns out colleges are looking more at clubs than they are at school because they can see more potential in players at a higher competition. Also, the team is more like a family and is more connected than school is,” Thomson said. Playing in club and high school is only one part. Most athletes look to play at the college level and then continue to professional. “I would love to play volleyball in college, I think it would be a lot of fun and it would be great to go to college and play the sport I love,” Thomson said.

Freshman Year Is the Start of the Rest of Their Lives

Coming to high school as a
freshman can be either really exciting or really scary. It is the first year of the high school journey for everyone. Freshman year is where grades and attendance start to matter. In order to get into a good college, having excellent grades and attendance is expected. That can get a little scary for many people, but not for freshman Melissa Hagan. “In high school, we get more freedom but we have to advocate for ourselves. Last year in 8th grade, I never really studied for tests but for high school I had to study if I wanted to get a good grade,” Hagan said. In high school, there are many opportunities to be successful in school and to strive as a person like sports, clubs, or other organizations. Being involved in extra curricular activities is also very good on a college application. It can also help freshman learn to make new

friends and to grow into their own person where they can figure out who they are. “ My favorite thing about high school is probably being on the LNHS swim team and having fun with all of my friends,” Hagan said. The first year of high school is the first step in becoming an adult in the adult world. It is the first step to prepare for the rest of their lives. Starting the first year off right will make the next three years easier and more fun. For Hagan, she plans to finish the year off right and to start getting more involved next year. “I always want to be prepared for a test. I always study for finals, EOC, or any other test I have so I know I will do good. My goal next year is to get more involved with high school so I signed up for student ambassador and I’m hoping that I will gain a lot from doing that,” Hagan said.

A Plan For After High School Written by: Zach Campbell
Dominick Berkstresser plans on going to attend UMKC for his future career in mechanical engineering. Dominick Berkstresser wants to be a mechanical engineer. He has had the dream to be one ever since he was a little kid. “I really wanted to be a police officer when I was younger because it sounded cool, but then I realized you get shot at from time to time. I moved on to wanting to be a mechanical engineer because I like math,” Berkstresser said.
In high school, the last two years (junior and senior years) can be used to figure out what will be accomplished in one’s life, including which college they might attend, if they’re going to join the military, become an inventor, make a company, or just plain wing it. Junior Dominick Berkstresser has an idea for what he would like to study, but it was not what his original plan. “I really wanted to be a police officer when I was younger because it sounded cool, but then I realized you get shot at from time to time. I moved on to wanting to be a mechanical engineer because I like math,” Berkstresser said. The college Berkstresser would most likely plan on attending when he graduates will be UMKC. “The college I want to attend is UMKC because of its engineering program, and
also because it is close to home. I’m either going for a four year bachelor degree to get my mechanical engineer title, or go for six years to get my masters degree and get better pay,” Berkstresser said. The college that Berkstresser would least likely consider to go to would be KU, for simple reasons about the college. “I do not like KU as much because I do not like their colors as much as the other college colors that I would like better,” Berkstresser said. After Berkstresser finishes up at UMKC for his mechanical engineering degree he hopes to accomplish, he hopes to fulfill his dream job. “My dream career is to be a mechanical engineer, and to work for a very prestigious company,” Berkstresser said.

Keeping Secrets Since Day One
Students at Liberty North love singing, but don’t love bringing attention to it. Picture by: Brittany Hines Story By: Lauren Becker
Sophomore Selma Taylor showing off her singing skills after a stressful class. She is always singing the song “How Great Is Our God,” By Chris Tomlin.
Secrets are something that everyone has kept at one point or another. Some secrets are more intense than others, one being that they secretly love to sing. “My mom and dad want me to play soccer for my entire life. They don’t know that I spend all my free time at night singing and I sing with my friends,” Sophomore Selma Taylor said. There are lots of different careers that allow someone to sing but some parents disagree with that. Teachers apparently feel different than some parents. “I think that music is a good thing and it improves your brain… We have a choir class for a reason.” Science Teacher Mrs. Fairhurst said. A few people find something good in something people think is so wrong. “I love it, I love singing and I love the way my throat feels when I sing. All of my pain and struggles go away when I am singing.” Taylor said. Taylor doesn’t feel any humiliation
or embarrassment about her loving to sing, she’s just worried about her parents finding out about her love for singing and they way she pursues it. “If my parents were to find out that I sing, and why I do, I would never be able to do anything again. I would only be allowed to play soccer which is what they want me to do. I want the entire world to hear me do what I love but I know that as long as my parents have a say I will never get the chance and that’s really the only thing that makes me question if singing is worth it to me or not. But at the end of the day it’s worth it.”

Food Trends In Today’s Teens Veganism at Liberty North High School
Written by: Glennae Cook Photo by: Brittany Hines
Sophomore Camryn Smith is enoying a tofurky sandwhich, fruit snacks, apple slices and water. She has been vegan for 4 months after she saw a video on veganism. “That video was not supposed to influence me as much as it did. I orignally watched it out of pure curiosity but it really inspried me. I am glad i made the choice to become vegan because I feel 10 times healthier and wish I would have made this choice earlier in my life. I don’t think I will ever go back from being vegan and when I have kids, I hope one day they will make the choice to be vegan as well. I love being vegan,” Smith said.
Food trends are becoming more and more popular recently in society. Everywhere people turn they see the latest one coming. The most recent one that is becoming mainstream is Veganism, or going vegan. “First I was a raw which means I only ate raw food, so nothing processed. I typically ate a lot of smoothies, bananas and spinach. I am now just a regular vegan because it was too hard to be a raw vegan during school. It is so hard to keep raw food fresh,” Sophomore Camryn Smith said. With veganism being a trend there are tons of average people being vegan, posting vegan blogs and food pictures but we also see a lot of celebrities becoming vegan. Everyone from Beyoncé and Jay Z, Ariana Grande and Jared Leto are vegan just to name a few. “No, I honestly don’t know which celebrities are vegan. The only real influence I had was this one time I was on youtube watching some makeup tutorials and I saw this video called “What My Two Year Old Vegan Eats” and I thought it was really rude of a mom to do that and then I realized that, that kid was really healthy and I wanted to be that healthy too,” Smith said.

Vegans have many restrictions when it comes to their diet like butter or cream, eggs, cheese from cows or goats, milk from cows or goats, meat, poultry, lamb, or beef, fish, shellfish, shrimp, or lobster, gelatin and honey. With all those restrictions, it makes going out with with vegan challenging. “Before she was vegan, we could go anywhere and eat and she’d actually eat whatever she wanted and pig out with me. Now she can just eat a large orders of French fries because that’s all she can eat so it’s weird that I’m the only one eating a real meal. The most frustrating thing is she is not eating really anything but saying it’s ok that I eat everything. Overall I think it’s weird. I don’t get how she does it or how anyone does it but if she feels better eating that way then she can do her,” Sophomore Emily Ewing said. Being a vegan is a something that may be typical but for some can be difficult. It is not something that people can do overnight and expect to succeed at. “When I first became vegan it was tough for me, I cheated multiple times. When I stuck it out and pushed myself it became easier for me over time,” Smith said.
Gettin’ Money While It’s Sunny Most teens are geting jobs during the summer.
Written by: Ikanwie Acha and Thomas Petree Photo cutersy of: Mitchell Sevier
There are many factors that lead high school students to begin work around this time of year. Some are in it to afford college, while others are just in it for extra spending money. In any case, with the ever so slowly rising gas prices and the higher cost of higher education, summer jobs are becoming more and more necessary for survival in this economy. Nowadays, there are a few must do activities during the summer including things like swimming, eating ice cream, and having huge water balloon fights. While not all of these options are realistic, being a lifeguard at our local community center or elsewhere certainly is, “It’s a fun summer job, and it makes money,” said junior Aubrey Larkin. And money is definitely one of the top priorities of working minors this summer. Aside from even just college, some students have chosen to live that fancy lifestyle with their chevy cameros

or newest model cars. Many parents work out some sort of agreement for these high maintenance cars, but your parents can’t(or won’t in some cases) do it alone, “I needed money to pay for my car, “ sophomore AJ Wiley said. Now although money is a necessary and vital resource and certainly a byproduct of work, it would be rather foolish to make that the driving force behind your job search. Before you rush into a summer job, allot some time for self evaluation: What are my interests? Do I like kids? If so, maybe consider babysitting. Do I cook well? Perhaps the restaurant business is more suitable job. Even if it is just 5 minutes, this self evaluation tactic can increase job satisfaction in many cases, “My work at Saver’s is probably retail [and] I mean yeah it’s a fine job. Like it’s not that hard,” junior Devyn Oglesby said.
In Depth In addition, getting a summer job requires a certain amount of maturity and in many cases, sacrifices. Students have difficulties accepting these sacrifices because, after all, they’ve worked their tails off for LPS for 10 months; isn’t it about time for a break? In any case, many students are willing to look past that and realize that the benefits far outweigh the costs for them, “Well I think personally for me the benefits are that I’m getting tan by spending so much time at the pool. I’m also making money and I make a lot of friends. I think the disadvantages are that you don’t have as much time to spend with your friends outside of the pool.” Larkin said. As for working past the summertime, students have mixed opinions. As August returns and the stores begin to reek with the smell of pencil sharpener shavings and loose leaf paper, many students begin to shift their allegiance to school activities such as sports or club dedications or even just school work in and of itself, “I would probably just work on the weekends if I did work past the summer,” Wiley said.
Senior Samantha Harris is working dilligently at Taco Bell. Samantha has worked at Taco Bell for three months, and will continue to work through the summer. “Taco Bell’s a good job and I love working there.” Harris said

NF “Therapy Session” Album Review Review Written By: David Valentine
Review Written By: Catrina Wilson
In the movie Deadpool, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a very sarcastic actor because of how he uses his word choice. I like whenever he says “Bad Deadpool….Good Deadpool.” He says that when he is shooting all the bad guys at the beginning of the movie whenever he counts down the only twelve bullets he has. I like how the plot kind of turns and Wade Wilson gets cancer. The bad guy Ajax (Ed Skrein) tries to persuade him into making him stronger and Ajax thought it would not work. Then the oxygen tank actually worked on him and made him basically impossible to kill and made him a lot stronger than Ajax. The thing I did not like about the movie overall is that the oxygen tank made his whole body ugly and dehydrated and that they never found a cure for it in the end. I thought for sure by the end of the movie, the producer would have made a way for Wilson to be cured. Overall the movie was good because you were always on the edge of your seat and they were good about making everything clear, you will not be lost like some movies.

April 22 this year Christian Hip-Hop/ Rap artist NF released his most recent album, “Therapy Session. He opens up to his audience even further than his previous albums, inviting them to join him for his Therapy Session. It takes guts to be as vulnerable and to write about the personal matters NF does on this album. He admits to his immaturity in relationships in “Breathe”, and the way he pours his heart out on “How Could You Leave Us” is something not everyone could do. We live in a world today where we try not to open up and show ourselves. Lack of honesty has led to a generation full of anxiety, isolation, broken relationships, and frustration. By opening up and allowing listeners to join in his own personal Therapy Session, NF lets others see that they are not alone in their struggles. It encourages openness, which is something we all could use more of in our lives. Aside from strong lyrical quality, NF displays remarkable growth musically as well. Each song is beautifully crafted. His rapping has become even more complex and intense at the same time, and his ability to sing his own hooks is so impressive. He can really do it all, write, rap, and sing. Therapy Session is probably one of the best all-around rap albums in recent years. NF has definitely taken a big step on his road to becoming one of the premier rappers in the business.

I cannotbelieve I didtake a picture of how this place looks like from the outside. I came here with one other person and it was probably around 6pm. There were already a lot of people eating at tables but there were a few places to sit still. I ordered the Steak & White Cheddar Panini with bread and a fountain soda. It didn’t take long before our orders were ready. The Steak & White Cheddar Panini tasted good; however, it was such a small portion for me. There were onions in it so watch out for that if you order it... that is if you don’t like onions or want onion breath. The bread that came with it was fresh and good. I forgot what kind of bread it was though. I thought this place was a little pricey in terms of the amount you get. Good place for studying or just to meet with somebody. Multiple times in the past 2-3 years I have ordered a pizza from here. It is always delivered on time and just what I ordered. The delivers also always act very professional and respectful. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and I would definitely recommend the restaurant to my friends and other people looking for some tasty italian pizza in the area.
Video Game Review
Review Written By: Zach Poitevint
I recently had the opportunity to play the new Ratchet and Clank game for the Playstation 4 released on April 12, 2016, which was developed by Insomniac Games. This game is a reimagining of the original Ratchet and Clank game released in 2002 that follows the adventures of a lombax named Ratchet who wants to be the next hero in the galactic rangers led by Captain Qwark. This game gets so many things right, such as staying true to the original formula of gameplay, great dialogue, and replayability is outstanding, offering a challenge mode after completing the game. Although, it has some flaws with some of the side characters being a little out of place from the story and only show up once or twice to tell you what to do. When playing through this game I was looking for the same things that made the original have an impact on me when I was a little boy, and it has the same gameplay style as the original and feels like taking a trip down memory lane. This game often references and jokes towards the movie and the game itself in ways breaking the fourth wall for some creative humor, and this makes me excited for the movie even more. I highly recommend this to anyone who liked playing these type of games as a kid, and at a $40 price tag for a game, it is a great value for what this game has to offer.

tereotypes are pretty much unavoidable. We all go to highschool, and this place is full of them. We stereotype people by their looks, their athletic abilities and their academic abilities even if we hardly know them. You might see a jock and think that the only thing they’re good at is sports, and maybe they’re not as smart. Maybe the kid in front of you i geometry always gets all A’s, so maybe they’re a “nerd”. But maybe, if you talk to these people outside of one class, they’re actually good at more than one thing. I think that the worst thing about stereotypes is that in your mind you automatically think that a person is really only good at the one thing they’re known for, and that’s just not the case. There’s really no way to get rid of all the stereotypes and at least one will probably always be around, but maybe they won’t be so annoying. My favorite stereotype is blonds being stupid because everyone knows blonds can be just as intelligent as others who have a different color of hair. But girls who used to be referred to as stupid blonds didn’t let it get to them. Instead girls might forget something and say it’s because they were blond, as if that was an explanation. This is the great idea of using a stereotype to their advantage. Besides making a joke of a stereotype, there are some that are disappearing, like only guys playing football or only girls doing gymnastics. Now, you’ll see both girls and guys obliterating the boundaries of stereotypes.

e all have a favorite movie character that brings us joy to our hearts when we see them. On the other hand, we also all have a least favorite. I, for one, am sick and tired of seeing minions everywhere I go. That’s right. I think that those little yellow tic tacs from Despicable Me are trying to take over the world, and they need to be stopped. I can’t be the only one who thinks this. Just stop to take a look around. You’ll see that their image is on almost every toy, cereal box, and child’s clothing item out there. They have now got their own movie. What’s next? A sitcom? My heart would not be able to handle seeing that nightmare come true. The madness doesn’t seem to be showing signs of stopping because I still see them in every store. I’ve even seen them on the beloved twinkie boxes. This kind of over-advertisement was okay when it came to Shrek. I even let it slide with the Frozen merchandise, but these minions have taken it too far. It’s time for us, as a community, to make a stand against the horrific force that is the minion army...alright, maybe that is a little bit of an overreaction. It doesn’t matter. I stand by what I said, and I would advise you to do so as well.

ecently in 2016 a new movie titled “10 cloverfield lane” directed by Dan Trachtenberg was released. Overall this movie got rated 4 stars. After waking up from a life threatening car accident, Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) finds herself trapped in an underground bunker with two other men who claim there has been an attack above in which caused the air to be unbreathable. Although the bunker has a very nice environment, one of the men’s behavior begins to cause her to try anything she can to escape. Once Michelle finally makes it to the outside world, she finds the truth about everything she had been questioning. Towards the end of the movie the movie starts to release some extraterrestrial characters, which viewers were not too fond of. Viewers had very good reports on the movie until the end in which those extra characters came out. Adding up to the end, all of the characters were very well talented with their acting. The movie had so much suspense viewers rarely could take one eye off of the screen. When Michelle first wakes up she is extremely confused as to what had happened and why she was in the bunker. As she began conversing with the two men she realizes that they really are just trying to help her and keep her safe from the world above, so she thinks. The most interesting part of the movie has to be as time goes on and Howard (John Goodman), the older man, starts to act a bit suspicious and make Michelle question if she really belongs down in that bunker.

attoos, are widely known in our society today and all around the world even, Many people even cultures have embraced this form of art. However they are still many people who look down upon tattoos. Tattoos are pieces of art placed upon the skin and bodies of many, it is common that most of individual’s tattoos tell a story. Therefore I myself and many others believe the age at which you are allowed to get tattoos should be moved up from 18 to 16, when a teenager turns 16 they are given the freedom to get their license, drive a car, and get a job so why should they not be allowed the opportunity to decide whether they want a piece of art on their body or not. There is a widely known saying that states “Your body’s a temple, so why not decorate the walls with art” which we as teens should be allowed to do just that they are our bodies not our parents or anyone else’s . Tattoos are admired in many cultures and even have symbolic representation to them.

Unfairness is something that you see commonly through the years in high school. There are teachers that pick favorites and there are some that do not. Often times we hear that teachers “don’t pick favorites” but it is apparent that they do. This treatment can often lead to unfairness or unfair treatment. Students can lead to mental issues with the fairness treatment. Should teachers treat students this way? What can we do about this “unfair” treatment? Students do not think it is okay unless they are the student getting the good treatment. And it is not okay. Should principals punish teachers for this treatment?Students often get led to thinking they are the favorites when the teacher is only being nice, because of what they witnessed in the past with other teachers. Students don’t know what the fairness treatment is or when the teacher is being kind. I think we should have a camera in each room so we can monitor the classrooms and how they are handled. And as for the teachers punishments? They need to lower their paycheck or get fired. We need to do something about the fairness treatment before it get carried out of hand.

I am in a club called Diversity Council. Diversity Council is ran by Dana Combs. It has been a club since Liberty North High School opened up.The mission of Diversity Council is to reach out to all individuals and spread awareness to all different races and nationalities. This club is very important because there are a lot of races and nationalities and some people ared judged or they feel left out, So I’m glad that we a club that will make you feel like you belong and to show you that you are not different from.Diversity meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month and typically talks about things like how we can spread awareness to the student body about different divercial holidays like Cinco De Mayo, Hanukkah, and Black History Month. In Diversity Council you do a lot of fun things like Foods of The World and Nest Fest. Diversity to me is more than a club I feel like they are more of family I have bonded with everyone in that club.

New Level The college recruiting process explained
Sports column by Matt Long
There are 8 million high school athletes in America(per NCAA). Only about half a million of those athletes will compete in the NCAA. Every year, dozens of college recruiters walk through the halls of each high school to talk to coaches about potential recruits that might be at that school. Most high school athletes are recruited after their junior season has ended. This is when most kids go on official visits to all the big schools and get excited about college athletics. The school puts their name and number above a locker with a matching jersey so the recruits can flex on Instagram and Twitter. The most important part about the visits is coaches trying to convince the recruits why this is the team for them. Meeting players, touring facilities, sitting down and talking to position coaches is the only way for a kid to be able to decide if this is where he wants to play. Signing your scholarship at the end of the recruiting process is the most satisfying feeling a high school athlete can experience.

Recap on Baseball Season
Story By: Robbie Hanson Photo By; Holly Hundscheid Baseball season has come to an end and now is the time the seniors leave and the underclassmen start to get ready for next season. Even though the season is over it did not stop the player from realizing the good things that happened during the season. “I think it was really good for us, we had a rough start which was eye opening for us because I think we thought we were a lot better then we really were. So I thought when we saw that we were not amazing which got us to work harder at practice to get better which resulted in more wins,” Perry said. Perry had some doubts in the beginning of the season but saw that the team could have a chance to compete for a district title. Perry also thought that there were a couple of games they could of won but just could not get it done. “There were definitely some games we should of won like our first game against North Kansas City. We did not have a good game at all, we hardly could even hit the ball and still only lost by one run,” Perry said. saw how this years team was young and not experienced. “It was sad at first when I realized our season did not go the way we wanted but I realized that it was good for the team and the young players. Now the younger players have good experience,” Winkel said. Geisert, one of the returning players, is already working hard now that he has the varsity experience. “I think next year is going to be a great year with a lot of returning varsity guys and with all the experience,” Geisert said.
The baseball teams is currently play in districts. They won districs over Liberty last year. “I am very confident going into districts and think we will do pretty well,” senior Jack Degarmo said.

Whatever it Takes The NBA Playoffs have finally started
Story By: Jackson Martin May has finally rolled around, and that means a couple things. Beautiful flowers, the end of school, warmer weather, and of course, the NBA Playoffs. The NBA Playoffs are already in full swing with the first round over, or just about over for other teams who are in intense matchups battling to move on. Let us take a quick look over the first round. The San Antonio Spurs made a quick series of the Memphis Grizzlies, sweeping them in a four game set, winning 10674, 94-68, 96-87, and 116-95. With these dominant performances and no key players getting injured, the Spurs may be the team to beat this year. “I certainly think that the way they[Spurs] are playing, no one can stop them. They are playing on fire right now,” sophomore Akshar Patel said. The Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers are in a crazy series right now battling it out to see who will play the Golden State Warriors. The Clippers took the first two games with scores of 115-95, then 102-81. The Clippers made it look as if they were going to sweep the Blazers, but two key players - Chris Paul and Blake Griffin got injured for the Clippers, and Portland has since won three in a row 96-88, 98-84, 108-98. “The Clippers and the Trail Blazers has
Photo From: CBS Sports been, in my opinion, the most exciting and entertaining series because of the way Damian Lillard[Trail Blazers point guard] has given the team life and brought them back into the playoffs,” junior Jacob Kirch said. The Cleveland Cavaliers swept the Detroit Pistons in their first round match up. The four games came and went and Cleveland came out on top in every one. The big three of Lebron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love won 106-101, 107-90, 101-91, and 100-98. The Cavs had some problems with the eighth seed from Detroit, barely coming away with victories in a couple games, but are ultimately moving on to the next round. “I don’t think the Cavs played that good vs the Pistons and I’m worried about the next round if they keep playing like this because the competition will be tougher vs the Hawks,” Patel said. Some other headlines are: Warriors’ super-star guard, Stephen Curry, went down with a knee injury, Raptors beat the Pacers in game 7, and the Heat beat the Hornets in game 7. “I think that this year’s playoffs will be great and I’m looking forward to seeing who will win it all,” senior Carson Armour said.
The NBA Playoffs stretch from April to June. Golden State won the Finals last year. “I think that this year’s playoffs will be great and I’m looking forward to seeing who will win it all,” senior Carson Armour said.
