GALA EVENT BENEFICIARIES

‣ For over 25 years, The Environmental Media Association (EMA) has been dedicated to harnessing the power of the entertainment community and the media in a global effort to educate on environmental issues and promote sustainable lifestyles. ‣ The Environmental Media Association is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1989 by Cindy and Alan Horn & Lyn and Norman Lear. ‣ At EMA we are inspiring solutions for the environment through our continued impact in media and pop-culture. ‣ EMA focuses on action programs, PSA campaigns, celebrity and brand role modeling, educational salons, solution-oriented conferences, placing green storylines into film and television productions, and using our iconic EMA Awards Gala as a platform to help create a template for a more environmentally responsible future.

‣ Everything is bigger in Texas, including the commitment to work together to achieve a world of sustainable balance. As evidence of that commitment, Earth Day Texas (EDTx) – the world’s largest annual expo and forum for sharing the latest sustainable initiatives, discoveries, research, innovations, policies, products, and corporate practices reshaping the world will hold its 2016 event on April 22 – 24 at Dallas’ Fair Park from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM daily. ‣ The largest event in the world of its kind, EDTx brings together environmental organizations, businesses, academic institutions, government agencies, speakers, interactive programming, and subject matter experts. ‣ This three-day free event is held annually, coinciding with global Earth Day observances each April to celebrate progress, hope, and innovation.

EMA - ANNUAL EVENT INFORMATION

Since 1991, the EMA Awards has been the premiere awards program solely devoted to the entertainment industry’s environmental efforts. A pioneer in linking the power of celebrity to environmental awareness, it was EMA who invented the “green carpet,” launching the concept of taking a hybrid or alternative fuel vehicle — not a limo — to the EMA Awards show. The awards show has been a launching pad for iconic green innovations (like the Toyota Prius) and landmark environmental films (like “Inconvenient Truth” and “Food Inc.”). EMA showcases the most cutting edge brands, chefs and artists dedicated to sustainable living and advancing sustainability messages. Since 2009, the EMA Awards Gala has also honored environmentally responsible entertainment companies with our EMA Green Seal Program. Over the past years, the EMA Awards have hosted such luminaries as Al Gore, Dave Matthews, Rob Reiner, Mikhail Gorbachev, Pierce Brosnan, Robert Redford, Edward Norton, Sir Richard Branson, Jeff Skoll, Ted Turner, Elon Musk, Bill McKibben, Matt Damon, Jessica Alba, Maroon 5, and Justin Timberlake. In 2015, it was no different, as we honored icons Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Henley and the United States’ first official Green Czar, Van Jones. Beginning in 2016, The EMA Awards Gala will broaden its scope, honoring all aspects of “media.” Introducing four new categories, for Outstanding Achievements in Advertising, Music, Technology and Environmental Missions.
