It is useful to study in Estonia

There are students from all over the world studying at Estonian universities. At the same time, Estonia is not too big. Our towns are reasonably sized and so are our universities. Instead of constant competition, our universities are networking with each other, just as the students. It’s not such a common thing on the world scale.

Joining the European Union and rapid economic development have enabled Estonian education sector to meet the leading economic requirements quickly and efficiently. This and also the correspondence to Bologna system guarantee that the education that the students receive in Estonia meets the world standards.

Every university has a department that deals with international students, providing all kinds of help regarding everything associated with studies and living conditions. The mission of international departments is the satisfaction of students – their job is to ensure that nothing would interfere with concentrating on studies.

The international communication language of the universities is English, which is spoken by academic staff, administrative staff, students and the majority of the younger Estonian population. Also Russian and near Tallinn, Finnish are spoken widely. The youth also speaks other major languages well.

English-language education is offered in more than a hundred internationally accredited study programs. There are truly unique study programs available such as Master’s degree in cyber security. Constant benchmarking with other similar universities ensures the development of study programs and thereby also the high value of the diploma.

As the universities are not very big, there are also fewer students participating in the courses. This allows for more personal networking with lecturers and supervisors. The focus of Estonian higher education is also more practical and reality-based than in the large European universities.

The buildings and technical infrastructure of Estonian universities have been renovated and improved several times. Most information moves digitally and most scientific and research centres and libraries are equipped to the highest standards. There is free internet available everywhere at the universities.

There are students from all over the place in Estonian universities – from Russia to Australia. Everyone studies in English and student life is filled with several hobby or specialty-based clubs and organizations. There are several events and field trips organized for foreign students, which enables them to get to know each other in addition to the local situation.

During your studies you can always participate in the lectures that interest you although these might not directly be connected with your major. In most specialities you can put together your own personal study program in addition to compulsory subjects: there is a wide choice available already on the undergraduate level.

Estonian universities are in the process of constant and increasingly broader networking with many leading universities and research institutions of the world. This enables the students to acquire large amounts of high-quality knowledge that can be applied in real life. Transnational networking is also active regarding joint study programs where studies are partly conducted in a nearby country.
