SKIN TAG REMOVAL
What are Skin tags? Skin tags are made of collagen (a type of protein) and blood vessels surrounded by skin. They are usually found in the folds of the skin, for example, in the armpits, groin, thighs, eyelids, neck, face or under the breasts. They look different from warts and other benign skin lesions because of the small stalk that attaches them to the skin. Warts tend to be flat, while skin tags hang off the skin. Usually these growths are small and less than 2mm in size, but they can grow much larger. They feel soft, and can be smooth and round, wrinkly and uneven, or look like a grain of rice. They can be flesh coloured or darker, sometimes dark blue. Both men and women can have them and are more common in older people and people living with type 2 diabetes. Pregnant women are also more likely to develop skin tags, although these usually disappear after the baby is born. They are harmless, but sometimes the location of them can cause them to be sore and, for many, they are an eyesore. However, because they are harmless, removal of skin tags is not covered by insurance as it is considered a cosmetic procedure. The removal of Skin Tags can be accomplished through a number of different methods. One way is by using electrical energy (cauterising). Since June of 2020 I have been licensed to remove skin tags and treat age spots using electrocautery, whereby an electric probe or needle is used to burn off the skin tag or treat the area covered by an age spot. If you decide to have a skin tag or age spot removed because it is bothering you or you don’t like its appearance, contact me to schedule an appointment. For more info feel free to Contact me.
