Teachers, parents and community mem-
bers are mulling concerns about staff levels and turnover within the ranks of the Castro Valley Unified School District. Going in to the 2014 school year that began in August, 13 of 42 administrators are new and 64 new teachers arrived to CVUSD school sites. “The amount of new people seems much more than usual and is the big talk across the district,” said Chabot Elementary teacher Alicia Gholami, who told CVN the district is also in need of a Special Education Director, Resource Specialist and is short on Instructional Assistants. with other years in regard to staff levels. “I do new teacher orientation, so I know we hire pretty much the same number of teachers every year. We lost some valuable members of our administration, but one went on to a promotion in the district, and the principal we lost had been here longer than any other,” said MacLeod, who has been at CVHS for nine years. When asked “Why do you think admin and instructional staff may want to leave the CV Unified School District” Superintendent Jim Negri responded,“Individuals change positions for a variety of reasons. It’s an individual decision. I have worked in six districts.”
