BadDog offers good painting advice For 18 years, Bill Sousa’s company, BadDog Painting, has been providing affordable and reliable painting for homes and businesses throughout the Southeastern New England area, with a licensed and insured team of qualified painters. His company is also lead certified, and provides free professional consultations and detailed estimates. His services include interior and exterior painting, power washing and wood restoraBill Sousa tion, brush and spray applications and epoxy repairs. BadDog guarantees its work for a year. And on that subject, BadDog has some words of good advice to those looking for painting contractors this fall. Make sure your painters are licensed and insured. “Workers comp is important to employees and homeowners,” says Bill, a proud U.S. veteran who takes his craft very seriously. He urges homeowners to make sure the prep work for each painting project is properly done, as this is the most important step. The prepping phase may include pressure washing, sanding, scraping, priming, caulking, glazing, plaster repairs, wood repairs, wallpaper removal and drywall patching, as needed. “You’ll want to know the surface is properly prepared before the paint is applied,” he says. “That way you’ll be assured of a long-lasting paint job. “Check our work on Facebook,” he says to prospective customers who want an idea of the type of properties he works on and the superior quality of his painting.

Bad Dog’s scope of work includes this stately Colonial home, painted within the past year.

venation in a location that will transport mind, body and spirit to another world. Looking for a “day-cation” or a pampering retreat? Cristallo Spa, with its well-landscaped and serene setting, is the answer. Stress will melt away. Cristallo, which has been open for three years, is the area’s exclusive provider of the Kerstin Florian medical skincare line, and its signature “Lavender Dreams” treatment. Until Cristallo brought in the product line, you had to travel to New York to enjoy its benefits. With this leading product line and the other sought-after medical rejuvenation services available at Cristallo, the spa has become a Medical service center, offering chemical peels, fillers and Botox injections for those seeking non-surgical skin rejuvenation treat-

ments, all administered by trained staff under medical supervision, using the state-of-the-art SkinCeuticals Medical Skincare Line. Owner Tricia Ferreira knew after the massive renovation undertaken at Hillside five years ago that the perfect addition to this exquisite setting, would be a spa. She set about creating a first class spa and salon, using state-of-the-art equipment and furnishings and only the best products. She found an ideal manager, a massage therapist and nail technician in Teresa Wroblinski, who is an 11-year veteran in the industry and brought her well-honed management capabilities to the fledgling business three years ago. Because the Hillside setting and facilities, including groomed grounds, natural pond, gazebos and elegant ball-

room, are the perfect wedding location, it was a big asset to offer bridal parties full spa treatments, from hair to nails to skin, making for a unique and fully coordinated event, as well as a relaxed and perfectly groomed bridal party. And with Hillside’s new, heated salt water pool, large Tiki bar and patio, restaurant and golf course, all open to the public, Cristallo has become a popular spot for a relaxing massage and a complete menu of services, following a day on the course or at the pool. Spending time at this countryside spa is an activity that has not passed unnoticed by residents of the surrounding areas, including Providence, the East Bay and the Southcoast, as more and more people put 82 Hillside Ave., Rehoboth on their GPS. It’s always a pleasant surprise how near it is.

The Kimberly Group has great neighborhood smarts

The Kimberly Group has agents throughout Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts ready to jump into action.

Kimberly Teves is the owner/ broker of the Kimberly Group in Bristol, R.I. After 10 years at another real estate agency, she started her own business in 2016, and right out of the box it became a realtor force to reckon with. Now her organization has 10 realtors throughout the Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts, and she has designs on expanding branch locations, East Side first and then on to Narragansett. Kimberly is a lady with a plan. Her success with the Bristol office is a good indication of what the future holds for this mother of five who does not understand the concept of sitting still. “Want something done? Ask a busy person.” That’s what they say. The Kimberly Group has good neighborhood knowledge

throughout the state and a strong focus on the East Bay, but it is in Bristol where Kimberly got her real estate start and put her sales and marketing enthusiasm and drive to the test. Her roots go deep in the town where her grandparents were Andrades, the caretakers of Colt State Park, and her husband is a teacher at Mt. Hope High School. Both are active in the Corliss Institute, where the Kimberly Group services the organization’s properties. And with an office right on the Bristol Fourth of July parade rate, you can bet the Kimberly Group is the “go to” place for employees, friends, as well as family, on the signature day. The frosting on the cake is that Kim’s daughter was a Miss Fourth of July in the Bristol parade. “I still get excited with every new listing and every new sale,” says Kim, about her love of the

real estate business. While she hasn’t said she dreams about it, she does blog. Does she ever. “When I started the company, I needed to get the name and the brand out there, and so I started a blog that dealt with my experiences, different facets of homes and home selling, and personal observations,” she says. It’s a delightful read, and says a lot about her life and her work ethic. You’ll find it on the Kimberly Group website and also on their Facebook page.

From its inception in 1979, as an interstate trucking company, in the 1990s they were one of the primary transportation suppliers for CVS nationwide. The company bought Nunes Disposal in 2002. That acquisition has produced a multi-city refuse and recycling collection company that serves 11 local communities, multiple public housing agencies and office buildings, and a commercial collection division that serves many accounts with annual service. They also offer temporary dumpster service for homeowners and contractors. Combined, these divisions generate more than $30 million in sales annually.

Celebrating 100 years of providing health and wellness services to our communities The Little Compton Wellness Center is part of a long history of health-related services in Little Compton. In 1918 the Spanish Flu hit Little Compton and the surrounding communities very hard. Elizabeth Osborn Burchard saw the urgent need for local medical care and in one day set up a satellite hospital in the Grange Hall with 30 beds, 2 nurses and 6 orderlies. Once the flu outbreaks subsided, the town realized that a more substantial local medical presence was needed. By the 1920s the Red Cross was providing local nursing services and health clinics were set up with local doctors operating out of the Brownell House in Little Compton. Over the next decades the Little Compton Nursing Association was formed and provided nursing services to the community. By the 1970s what started with a single nurse had grown into an organization providing over 4000 home visits in an average year. In the 1980s the organization found itself in need of larg-

By 2011, changing medical practices and technology resulted in yet another transition. The Little Compton Wellness Center was formed to continue the tradition of providing health and wellness services to the community. The Center now offers an expanding set of programs focused on the 4 pillars of healthy aging – body, brain, nutri-

tion and community. Each year hundreds of local residents visit the Wellness Center to take advantage of a growing set of educational and wellness programs which include well-adult, podiatry and flu clinics, nutrition programs, memory management classes, yoga, meditation and exercise programs. We are proud to continue the 100 year tradition of responding to the health-related needs of Little Compton and the surrounding communities.

Legendary ‘Venus’ now comes to you Since 1959, the Venus De Milo Restaurant has emerged as the area icon for weddings, corporate events and fine family dining. What began in a bowling alley was imaginatively transformed into a welcoming and well-appointed venue and highly regarded community asset, hosting countless celebrations over the years in its legendary banquet hall and its award-winning restaurant The vision of founder Monsour Ferris continued under his sons, Ronald and Monte. Today, Monte Ferris Sr. carries the proud mantle. Under his charge, food remains at the center. Awards have come from the Boston Harbor Chowder Fest and the Newport Chowder Cook-off. Chef and Restauranteur Emeril Lagasse proclaimed the bakedstuffed lobster the best in Southern New England, and Forbes Magazine dubbed it one of the Top Ten Restaurants in New England. It’s a big act to follow, but more than 50 years of award-winning cuisine can think outside its four walls. Today, the Venus brings its inspired menu to you, on a full service catering or drop-off basis. You can plan an event with hors d’oeuvres, food stations or buffet, breakfast, lunch or dinner for your back-

yard parties, weddings, graduations, reunions or other important occasions. “Whether it is our Empire Grille, on-premise Banquet or our Catering division, dollar for dollar, you will never find a better value anywhere,” says Monte Sr. “Our people make us who we are."

Happy dogs, happy families Founded by a Barrington native and doglover, Pooch Pawsitive offers a puppy preschool and dog daycare staffed entirely by dog trainers. That staff, and their approach to care, create significant differences. Operating out of a new space on Fairmount Avenue in East Providence, Pooch Pawsitive does much more than give dogs a place to run around all day. They run it like a daycare. The dogs have "nap times" during the day, when the lights go down and the Classical music comes on. The trainers monitor and interact with the dogs. If they see bad behavior, they correct it. They don't just care for the dogs, they teach them. "All of our staff are dog-trainers," said owner Heidi McNeil. "We're 'all-in' on good manners, habits and behaviors … we really try to help them develop." The daycare reflects Ms. McNeil's overall philosophy on training and teaching dogs. She wants them to be not just good dogs, but good family members. "In our classes and in our daycare, we're trying to develop confident, happy, well adjusted family members," Ms. McNeil said. Her classes are offered 5 days a week at Rumford Pet Center on Warren Avenue in

East Providence. Their primary focus is on puppies, for good reason. "I decided to focus on puppies, because the reason dogs are surrendered to shelters or abandoned, often, is because they were never properly trained or socialized at an early age," Ms. McNeil said. "So this is my answer to the shelter problem, to train them early, and socialize them early, so they don't develop bad habits." The puppy training happens in a series of six classes, with a highly flexible schedule. Once you attend the opening orientation class, you can attend any of the other five classes at any time. Many families appreciate the flexibility. Though puppies are the target audience, Pooch Pawsitive also offers a series of training classes for older dogs. "We really offer a combination of training and socialization, with families taking part … It's a whole symbiotic approach that helps them grow up to become good, happy family members," Ms. McNeil said.

because we started here back in the 60’s and we have been here since. Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Timothy. One day when he was seven years old, his Aunt sent his four older brothers and him money to pick out their own Christmas gifts, so his Dad took them all to American Toy, in Pawtucket. Tim saw a toy called “The Big Press”, a toy printing press. It was love at first sight. Tim’s first project was a fun neighborhood newsletter for his friends and neighbors. At age ten, Tim printed church bulletins and other newsletters on a mimeograph machine that belonged to a local secretarial service. When Tim was 13, he purchased a Chandler & Price foot-powered Letter Press and about seven cases of lead type. With these he began printing tickets, menu cards, stationery, “peanut bags” etc. for friends and local businesses, in his parents’ cellar. At 14, he bought a Multilith Press, for printing in Tim at age 16 larger quantities. Tim was so interested in printing, that at Warren High School, he took as many printing classes as time allowed along with all his other classes. At 17, when he graduated, he purchased an AB Dick 360 and expanded to multi-color printing work. In late 1973, Tim officially founded the company and named it Tap Printing. Tim continued to run the company in the cellar until 1978 when he married Frances and moved to his own cellar! In 1986 he added state of the art phototypesetting to his list of services. He then began shifting from letterpress to offset printing to provide better quality for his valued customers. In early 1988, Tap Printing became a corporation and moved into an 800 square foot store front location on Metacom Avenue in Warren and has been there since. Copying was added to the services in 1988. A year later, the store size was doubled to make room for the addition of a new color press, a Heidelberg windmill and some new folding and bindery equipment. Macintosh computers were introduced to provide more creative and expedient typesetting and graphic design. Late in 1989, a high speed copier was added and in 1992, a color copier was purchased. In 1999, Tap invested in a state of the art Quickmaster printing press. Then in 2001, it was replaced with a new Heidelberg Printmaster because of the increase in productivity it offered. In 2006, Heidelberg four color process printing equipment was acquired for More larger color projects and bulk than just mailing services were now a print being offered. shop! DeJesus Driveways is rated tops by customers

No matter what type of asphalt, sealcoating or concrete project you have in mind, it pays to turn to an A+ Better Business Bureau company like DeJesus Driveways of Seekonk. You are sure to get a top quality job from a company that has good ratings from happy customers. Just check out HomeAdvisor’s 5-star ratings or Angie’s List, if you need further confirmation of a job well done. DeJesus Driveways, family-owned and operated by Joshua DeJesus, has been doing first rate work since 2001. From sealcoating, asphalting, or installing concrete driveways or pavers, to making major or minor repairs, DeJesus is the first name to contact. They serve residential and commercial customers throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. No job is too small or too large for this versatile company. Their projects have included everything from roads to potholes to retaining walls and shopping center parking lots. Perhaps your driveway is having a few problems, like cracks or fading. You’ve let it go for years because you think it will be expensive and more than you want to take on. Well, easy fixes by the versatile DeJesus crew can solve the problem affordably and kick up your curb appeal for many years to come. A hot rubberized crack filler professionally applied can take care of spiderwebbed areas. Broken areas of pavement can be patched without having to replace the entire driveway. Josh and his crew cut oversize square segments of the damaged area and replace it with a fine asphalt topcoat. Of course, a good seal coating can bring a faded, tired driveway back to life and make it look new again. If you need to replace an asphalt driveway or pave a new one, here are a few things to consider. Paving comes with many benefits, like better parking, greater curb appeal and the ability to keep the exterior of the home in tip-top shape. First in the process, a good gravel base of between 2 and 8 inches is key to having a well functioning driveway. Asphalt itself is blended with an aggregate. It contains stones, sand and liquid asphalt cement, a product of petroleum. It is heated until it becomes liquefied and then the blend is poured on top of the gravel base. It produces a thick, black driveway that absorbs heat in the winter and helps melt snow and ice. Winter can sometimes be tough on

asphalt here in New England, and a more weather-resistant asphalt called a chip seal is becoming popular. A layer of gravel is put on top of a newly formulated and poured asphalt and rolled into permanent place, helping the driveway to withstand colder temperatures.

It’s always smart to talk to the professionals about what’s best for you and your property. You’ll be assured of a top quality job and competitive pricing from DeJesus Driveways, with fast and free quotes that can get your job scheduled asap. Just ask Angie or HomeAdvisor.

Family-owned business offers the full spectrum of elderly services In 1966, Linda and John Machado opened the Grace Barker Nursing Home. Linda, a registered nurse, named the facility for her mentor and nursing school benefactor, a woman known for her unselfish and compassionate caregiving. I could think of no better tribute,” said Linda, “than to name it after Grace Barker.” Today, Linda and John’s daughter, Mary Beth, runs the facility along with her husband, Mark Lescault. It’s a true family business: Mary Beth and Mark’s local East Bay roots run deep, and the business remains family-owned at a time when corporate ownership is increasingly becoming the norm. “We are blessed with staff longevity and are pleased to continue serving this wonderful community,” says Mary Beth. Mark agrees that it’s the sense of family that makes The Cove at Grace Barker and The Willows at Grace Barker unique, and it is tremendously beneficial for the elders in their care. “It is very comforting for residents to see the same familiar, smiling faces day after day,” he adds. “Linda would be pleased to see that we are still here on Barker Avenue treating patients with dignity and topnotch medical care, and keeping her dream alive for generations past and present.” Grace Barker Health is the only facility in the area to provide a full continuum of care for the elderly – from skilled nursing and shortterm rehab, to adult day and assisted living services. To further differentiate it from other longterm care providers, Mary Beth and Mark announced an exciting name change in June 2017. “We’re not just a nursing home, not just an assisted living, not just an adult day and not just a rehab provider,” comments Mark. “We are an all-encompassing healthcare provider, all on one campus now known as Grace Barker Health. Our new name better reflects our ability to change with our patients as their needs change. It’s who we’ve become, and where we are going.” The skilled nursing center where the short-term rehabilitative care

“Change is something to be embraced. Change enables growth to propel a dream forward. It’s the necessary engine to meet the ever-changing needs of our residents and families.” ~ Mark and Mary Beth Lescault, Owners/Administrators

Dear Friend: At Grace Barker and The Willows, we have certainly evolved over the past five decades and feel that we have made our founder proud of what we are today. Mary Beth’s mother, Linda Machado, started this business, naming it after a nurse, Grace Barker, who mentored and made possible Linda’s nursing education and career. Linda would be pleased to see our evolution, to know that we are still here on Barker Avenue providing patients with top-notch medical care and keeping her dream alive for generations past and present. It is with evolution in mind that Mary Beth and I take great pleasure in announcing an exciting change: Our names have changed from Grace Barker Nursing Center and The Willows to “Grace Barker Health.” We are the same family you’ve come to know and love. We are the same owners. Nothing is changing except for

our name and logo. This identifies and differentiates us as an all-encompassing healthcare provider. We’re not just a nursing home, or just an assisted living, or just an adult day or just a rehabilitation provider…we are a provider of all those services on one campus. Our name better reflects this continuum of services – as our patients’ needs change, we can change with them. The people we care for don’t have to leave the caregivers whom they have come to know. They don’t have to leave our campus where they call home for the day or longer. “Grace Barker Health” is who we’ve become and where we are going. Our nursing center will now be called The Cove at Grace Barker. The Willows will be The Willows at Grace Barker. It’s an exciting time in our history, and we are glad you are a part of it. Thank you for taking the journey with us.

The Grand Prix has family fun for all ages Seekonk Grand Prix is celebrating its 27th anniversary as a family-owned business, and it's bigger and better than ever. A year ago, they went through a large renovation and expansion, moving their entrance from one side of the complex to the other, and opening a much larger game room, complete with a highly popular ropes course. Since then, business has been booming. It's easy to spot the large, yellow building across from Lowe's in Seekonk. The new building allowed them to install all new arcade games as well as the ropes course, all while improving the flow of traffic so people waiting in line don’t get in the way of people playing the arcade games. They also feature four go-kart tracks as well as bumper cars and bumper boats. “Character Night” is also new to Seekonk Grand Prix. It happens twice a month throughout

game play, the ropes course, and a round of mini-golf. Seekonk Grand Prix isn’t just a place for children; it’s for people of all ages. While they offer birthday packages, they have also catered to other celebrations, such as bachelorette parties and corporate team-building activities. So when you're driving down Fall River Avenue and you see the big, yellow building, think of all the fun and good times that can be had at Seekonk Grand Prix.

When you're in need, you need Independence East Bay residents Richard Westlake and his partner Charlene Russell began Independence HomeHealthWares on 9/9/99 with a mission to help people become independent of whatever physical challenges they face and be able to continue living at home. “We sell and rent the products we would want to use ourselves,” says Richard, whose background in hospital administration and medical equipment was perfect to achieve this aim. Independence HomeHealthWares has a showroom in East Providence displaying its comprehensive product line, including oxygen equipment, wheelchairs, bath safety equipment, beds, ramps and patient lifts, all in new or near-new condition. “We have shopped available products and equipment and can recommend what is the best choice, based on customer preference and resources available,” he says. as well as insurance coordination when needed. The company maintains high standards and is licensed, accredited and insured, with superior ratings of customer satisfaction. Graphic Ink - a winning team East Providence natives Nelson Silva and Hilda Allienello, owners of Graphic Ink, have just celebrated the 20th anniversary of the screen printing and embroidery company that is so much a part of East Providence sports and business life. For all of those twenty years, they have been in the same location on Warren Avenue in East Providence. Check the t-shirts, uniforms and hats of many area road races, baseball, lacrosse and soccer teams, and businesses, and you’ll find that most came from their shop. At Graphic Ink no job is too big or too small, and their clients also come from all over the Northeast and from as far away as California. “We print on everything but paper,” says Nelson. They also design logos. Think it’s impossible to print a logo on something? Think again. “We’ve printed everything from Government missile straps to beach chairs,” says Nelson, of some of the more challenging projects they have faced. The company has also been a big supporter of local activities and events since day one. Case in point, for more than fifteen years, they have been a major sponsor of

the successful East Providence Recreation Department Dolly Searle Golf Tournament, which took place this year on July 17th. We don’t have to wonder who imprinted the golf towels.

Shake, rattle and roll into Pazi’s Place Pamela “Pazi” Leite always wanted to own a 50’s diner and six years ago, her dream came true. After leaving the corporate world, she and her husband Dan opened Pazi’s Place. The immaculate eatery - that uses only the freshest ingredients dishes up breakfast, lunch and dinner and homemade ice cream too, seven days a week. The atmosphere takes you back to the 1950’s when times were much simpler. The checkered floors, walls lined with blackand-white photos, and the lengthy countertop surrounded by swivel stools all seem plucked from the 1950s. A family affair, daughter Stephanie is the creative mind coming up with nostalgically named omelets and all the interesting specials. Son Brian is part of the marketing and business strategy. Many people have inspired the creation of the menu and the atmosphere. Dan’s father was a photographer and the brains behind the black and white photos that adorn the walls. Pam’s parents, with their southern heritage, were the inspiration for the breakfast dishes like ‘Pop’s Legacy’ homemade biscuits and gravy.

They have created a fun dining atmosphere that brings back memories. Come in and savor a great meal while enjoying the music and the pictures from the past.

Child Care at local YMCA gives parents peace of mind The Newman and Bayside branches of the YMCA of Greater Providence offer before and after school pProgramming through the Out of School Time (OST) program for children in kindergarten through middle school as well as summer camp. OST Programs are held at their branches, along with four convenient school-based locations in East Providence, and the Y offers transportation to and from the child’s school. The goal of the OST program is to give all children the opportunity to be the best they can be; to build confident children today who will be contributing and engaged adults tomorrow. All of their OST programs are staffed by individuals who understand the need for children to learn new skills, make new friends, be physically active, and succeed in school. As a parent, you can be assured that the safety of children in their care is of the utmost importance.

They utilize a rigorous screening and orientation process, and all staff members are trained in the recognition and prevention of child abuse. Every YMCA employee must adhere to an established code of conduct. The OST curriculum focuses on impacting the academic, emotional, and physical development of each child. The OST staff emphasizes the importance of a healthy spirit, mind and body. Through the Y’s unique “Kids on the Move” program, the well-being of each student is woven into the daily curriculum. Children learn the benefits of good nutrition and healthy food choices while enjoying nourishing snacks. They learn stress management techniques through engaging, fun activities and participate in games to keep them physically active. Children explore and develop creativity and self-expression through drama, dance and mixed media art activities.

Y camps offer values-oriented, camper-centered programs that help children discover their talents and feel a sense of belonging. Our activities combine friendships, adventure, and personal growth, creating days as unique as each camper and memories that last a lifetime. At Newman and Bayside, we offer day camps and extended day programs. Sign up today before summer is over.

75 classes, 3 locations, Providence Power Yoga has you covered Joellen Hockenbrough moved from Newport to Providence about five years ago and had a devil of a time trying to find a yoga studio with classes that suited her schedule. With great support from a husband (he said rent the place!), she started her own studio in the Jewelry District. And so it began. Today, Joellen has three studios (two in Providence and a Riverside studio that opened last September), offers 75 classes, and has more than 15 Yoga Alliance-approved teachers. It is a big priority that her studios offer a solid and consistent schedule for her yoga students. Joellen says PPY has early morning classes and even a later at night one. We always have a 5:00 a.m.,

5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. class for those who have to go to work early, like nurses and teachers. We always have a 4:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. class,” she says. In Providence, she adds, there is always an 8:45 p.m. class for students and medical professionals. “Consistency is the key,” she says. “We work really hard to meet schedule needs.” Interested in a lunch schedule? Try the five dollar 45-minute session and you’ll never have another excuse to miss a class. OUR DOGMA We designed Lucky Dog as a RESORT, not a kennel. Dogs are intelligent, loving, sensitive creatures and being away from their families can be stressful.

“Your dog is our client and our mission is to make him happy. If he’s happy, you’re happy, and that makes us happy!”

We’ve created a haven ensuring both dogs AND their parents always feel confident they will be exceptionally well cared for, with no guilt, worries or stress. We do this by making his transition from your home to ours as seamless and happy as possible… and providing an interesting, safe, fun and loving environment that encourages dogs to think, learn, engage and be well, both mentally and physically.

Fireplaces, patios, and antique collectables coming soon Sunfire Hearth and Patio in Barrington originally opened in 1949 as a metal working business. In the 1970’s the business was adapted to include woodstoves and hearth products. Today, the business has expanded their showroom and will soon include consignments and antiques. “We have a big huge room that is probably five to seven thousand square feet that we are going to be dedicating to the consignment and antique collectables,” said Kerry O’Brien, owner of Sunfire Hearth and Patio. “We are also going to be expanding all the fireplace products into that room as well,

building new fireplaces for displays.” Mr. O’Brien has worked at Sunfire Hearth and Patio for over 20 years now, when it used to be known as New England Hearth and Patio. “I grew up to love this place, I love the industry. I love the fireplace industry,” Mr. O’Brien said. “It offers its challenges. There are new challenges everyday. You’re constantly learning.” When he and his wife, Erin, decided to reopen the business three years ago, he wanted to make sure they kept it as a fireplace store, and he made sure that Sunfire Hearth and Patio maintains its reputation as a solid reputable business. He knows they are moving in the right direction. “We don’t want to be known as a socalled flea market or anything like that. We are going to be carrying quality old furniture,” Mr. O’Brien said. “We have gotten in a bunch of 19th-century pieces, when stuff was made well. That is what we are going after.” He says that in addition to furniture, they will also be selling collectibles such

as small toys and records. Starting next year, Sunfire Hearth and Patio will be doing restorations on the antique furniture that they receive, however it wont be a full restoration back to its original.

“We are actually going to be doing more of painted finishes and things like that,” Mr. O’Brien said. “We aren’t going to be doing a full restoration, but we are going to be giving it a modern kick.”

We love our jobs, and watching families grow The seven doctors at Swansea Pediatrics love their job, taking care of thousands of children, even up to college age (they really don't want to leave). We love our newborns, whom we see at Charlton and at Women and Infants Hospital. We each have our own patient list, so we can get to know you and your child better. We share our patients at times so we can all become familiar, say, if a child is ill and his/her own doctor isn't in that day. However, we alone take care of our patients, as there is no sharing weekends or holidays with other doctor groups, just us. The seven doctors in Swansea have a terrific staff, many of whom have been with us for 5, 10, 15, even over 20 years. Warmth and kindness are required qualifications, alongside training and skill, whether at the front window, while taking temps, while providing breathing treatments or giving the dreaded "shots." Our staff will care for and comfort you and your child, as we understand there is often more than just one person needing encouragement or support.

Visits are usually just fine, but on occasion, fears and tears are not limited only to the patient. That's when the doctors and our staff try our best to reassure everyone that whatever the problem is, we will all do our best to fix it and dry those tears. Swansea Pediatrics has been around a long time, in fact, 35 years. We are an allfemale, seven-doctor pediatric group. We care for patients from Massachusetts

and Rhode Island. Started by Linda Tartell, MD, in 1982, we were first located at Town Terrace, at 1162 GAR Highway. After Joyce Monac, MD, Nina Cummings, MD, and Nancy Singer, MD, joined over 20 years ago, the group chose to buy a building and eventually make it into a medical destination, at 2200 GAR Hwy. Barbara Den Uyl, MD, Gina Costello, MD, joined us over ten years ago, and Kristen Markie, MD and Jessica Farrar, MD, more recently, as Dr Tartell and Dr. Singer retired. We believe we have a great group and when we are together, our favorite topic of discussion, is, you guessed it, our patients! That is an important part of our ongoing self-education, as is reading, conferences and teaching. We are all Board Certified in Pediatrics. In addition to our rounding at Charlton's and Women and Infants' newborn nurseries, we are affiliated with Hasbro Children's Hospital, we teach medical students from Brown University's School of Medicine, and we are affiliated with Boston Children's

Hospital , named #1 Children's Hospital in the nation. We are 15 year members of Boston Children's nationally recognized Physician Organization known and helped to bring Children's clinics to their new North Dartmouth site. What is it about our jobs we love so much? Of course it is our patients and families, with whom we develop a relationship that is crucial in caring for each child. Children are the best possible patients. Watching someone grow and change is a privilege, a miracle to be part of, so that is what makes our job so rewarding, so funny, so sweet, and after 19 years, why it is so hard to let those teens move on.
