"You're the people who make it possible," stated Allan Borys, Grand Knight of Our Lady of Lourdes Star Knights of Columbus Council #6382, addressing the 53 participants of the Lamont Terry Fox Run on Sept. 15. Borys also thanked co-ordinator Shanon Skitsko, who in turn thanked his mom Nadine. "The whole event wouldn't be possible without my mom Nadine who did the fundraising." Skitsko also recognized the efforts of other volunteers who assisted with canvassing, registration, confirming and reconciling the money count, helping with setup, lunch and clean up. He also acknowledged the runners. "Thank you for picking up the run from and for Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope for those who've passed from cancer, those who live with cancer or those who are survivors. Thank you also for your commitment and perseverance in search of sponsors. It's not easy to ask people to open their

wallets in sponsorship." A couple of the top fundraisers were Joannie Lopushinsky, who raised $2,730; and Sandy McDonald, who raised $1,520. Skitsko said that every dollar counts, and was very pleased to announce that a grand total of $12,717 had been raised. Donna Carter took the opportunity to thank Shanon as well. Carter mentioned Stan Kornicki, who organized the first Terry Fox Run in Lamont. Kornicki, had given her a part of a Lipstick Plant many years ago."I managed to keep a bit of his plant alive. It bloomed this summer and I'd like to pass it on." No sooner had Carter finished speaking when Carmen Palinchuk offered to house the plant at the Lamont Health Care Centre. Carmen is one of three daughters of Len Siracky, who was named honourary person for the 2013 Lamont Terry Fox Run. By Carmen's side were her sisters Louise Redmond and Chris Guse. Their mother Toni received a wonderful bouquet of flowers on

behalf of the K of C which were presented by Edward Medynski. "Thank you for honouring our dad today," added Chris. Lamont town councillor Steve Sharun also thanked event organizers on behalf of himself, coun. Sylvia McDonald who was also in attendance, fellow members of town council and staff. "Thanks for carrying on the tradition." Lamont has been in the top 10 municipalities in terms of fundraising for the Marathon of Hope. Borys thanked all of the participants once again before encouraging them to bring more of their neighbours and friends back for next year's run.
