We exercise various forms of restraint all day, every day. We go to therapy to try and manage unpredictable or inappropriate emotions or reactions, bite our tongues when our friends go a little too close to being out of line, and restrict desires to feed a more ultimate desire—be it a physical goal, affection, you name it. The beginning of every year is plagued with resolutions, vague or extreme, intended to better ourselves. Do you feel better yet? This summer, submit your work on how you restrain, or have been restrained, in your life, in mundane or excessive ways. What have you been holding back?
