How to Care for Your Down

PROTECT The first step to care for your down bedding is to keep the comforter protected with a duvet cover and the pillows with our Tenor Pillow Protector in addition to pillowcases. The extra layer of fabric which easily can be washed will serve as a protector from dust, dirt and body oils. FLUFF Frequently fluff your down comforter and pillows by giving it a few daily shakes. The steady flow of air will bring back its natural loft. On a dry breezy day, you may air de’ Medici’s down products outside, but avoid direct sunlight. CLEAN Frequent or improper washing of down can lead to excessive wear and tear and shorten its longevity and optimum performance. A properly cared for down product will only need washing every five years or so or only when soiled. We strongly recommend that our Basic Bedding products are cleaned by a professional launderer that is experienced with handling down. It is possible to wash down products at home, but residential machines are often too small and have an agitator which may harm your bedding. We do not recommend it, but if washed at home, use a front loading commercial style washer with non-bleach detergent on a gentle cycle. It is important to dry on low heat in a large machine until the product is completely dry; any lumps or smell of fill indicates dampness. Add a couple of clean tennis balls so that the fill moves as it dries. STORAGE Down does not like humidity. To avoid mildew and mold, we recommend a dry well-ventilated storage space. Do not compress down during storage; give your comforter and pillows enough space to air and breathe.

QUALITY ULTRA CLEAN de’ Medici’s Luxe Down and Premier Down fill is FTC regulation-guaranteed hypoallergenic. The down and featers go through a program of multiple washes and sterilization treatments in Eastern Accents’ ULTRCLEAN process. This uses 20 gallons of water per pound, which is recycled at a state of the art facility and returned to the cleaning processing plant right here in the Midwest.

FILL POWER Fill power signifies the number of cubic inches filled by one ounce of down. The higher the number, the more warmth and loft. de’ Medici has carefully chosen two lofty down fills that we believe represent the best options for our fans; Luxe Down in 650 fill power, Premier Down with an impressive 720 fill power, and Prestige Down with a luxurious 850 fill power. To assure that the fill power meets our rigorous standards, we use independent laboratories to test our down.

THE FILL de’ Medici only uses the finest materials to fill our comforters and pillows. Premium quality is our first priority, whether it’s natural down or synthetic. Down is the most efficient natural insulator in the world and can be found on the under belly of waterfowl. The Pure White Duck Down and Prestige White Goose Down used in our Bedding Basics contains light fluffy three-dimensional clusters that allows for warmth and comfort. For the sleeper who prefers man-made fibers we have developed a fill that imitates the loft and lightness of down. de’ Medici’s Faux Down is an ultra-fine microfiber that mimics down’s softness and resiliency offering a luxurious, water-resistant alternative with a completely hypoallergenic assurance.

FABRICS We love fabrics. So it was hard to narrow down the selections when developing de’ Medici’s Bedding Basics. THREAD COUNT Many judge the quality of fabric purely by its thread count, which is the number of threads per square inch. de’ Medici’s down-proof fabrics range between 230 to 330 thread count but more importantly, the long-staple yarn results in high quality textiles that are strong yet light in weight. WEAVE From Silky Sateen to Crisp Cambric and Airy Batiste, we have something to keep every sleeper comfortable. Cambric and Batiste are a lightweight plain weave claimed to be one of the finest and most dense kinds of fabric available. Sateen is a fabric with a characteristically silky surface and high luster due to the high number of floats produced through the satin weave structure.

Shipping

Our standard lead time is 3-5 weeks for bedding, upholstered furniture and accessories, and approximately 1 week for in-stock fabrics and trimmings (FOB Chicago). For domestic ground delivery orders, shipping costs are calculated based on dimensions, weight, shipping method, and destination. Please contact our Customer Service department for a quote when shipping to an address outside of the continental United States. Standard Shipping Charge For customers with terms, Eastern Accents will include the freight company’s fee to the invoice. For credit card and prepaid check transactions, we will charge a minimum $15 shipping fee for all orders under $200 and a maximum 10% percentage shipping fee for orders over $200. Note that standard shipping charges does not apply to orders containing furniture. Additional Shipping Fees Drop-ship requests will be accommodated for an additional fee; when shipping directly to an address other that the bill to, Eastern Accents will charge a fixed Drop-Ship fee. Pillow Inserts Unless otherwise noted, de’Medici pillows include Cloud Faux Down inserts. Our Cloud Faux Down pillow inserts are filled with an ultrafine microfiber engineered to imitate the loft of down. Bliss Blend and Plume Feather inserts are also available, visit our website for more information. We recommend our deluxe warmth comforters for colder climates and duvet covers made of heavier fabrics. Our medium weight is suitable as an all-season comforter, while our light weight is ideal for warmer climates or those who prefer a blanket-like feeling.

QUALITY & CARE Fine Linen Quality

Ticking Quality & Weave

de’ Medici Fine Linen fabrics are woven using the finest 100% Egyptian cotton. The collections feature yarn-dyed jacquards in signature colors, piece-dyed solid sateens, crisp percales, and prints. Solid sateens are available in both Luxe (600 thread count) and Classic (300 thread count) variations. Linen and other natural fibers may have variations in texture and color.

Many judge the quality of fabric purely by its thread count, which is the number of threads per square inch. de’ Medici’s down-proof fabrics range between 230 to 330 thread count but more importantly, the long-staple yarn results in high quality textiles that are strong yet light in weight.

Please note that matelasses, as with most products made of natural fibers, have a tendency to shrink. We account for this shrinkage by making products a little larger than our published sizes, so items must be washed prior to use for proper fit.

Fine Linen Care We recommend that de’ Medici Italian Fine Linen be machine washed in a front-loading machine. Machine wash in warm water using color- and fragrance-free detergent. Tumble dry on low for a few minutes and then iron. For best results, use a spray bottle with water as opposed to the iron’s steam feature. Due to the chemical processes, dry cleaning and bleaching are not recommended. Also, please note that de’ Medici Italian Fine Linen products, as with most products made of natural fibers, have a tendency to shrink 4-6%.

Down Quality de’ Medici only uses the finest materials to fill our comforters and pillows. Premium quality is our first priority, whether it’s natural down or synthetic. Down is the most efficient natural insulator in the world and can be found on the under belly of waterfowl. The Pure White Duck Down and Prestige White Goose Down used in our Bedding Basics contains light fluffy three-dimensional clusters that allows for warmth and comfort. For the sleeper who prefers man-made fibers we have developed a fill that imitates the loft and lightness of down. de’ Medici’s Faux Down is an ultra-fine microfiber that mimics down’s softness and resiliency offering a luxurious, water-resistant alternative with a completely hypoallergenic assurance.

Comforter & Pillow Construction For maximum loft and to keep the fill from shifting, de’ Medici’s comforters are handcrafted with a baffled box design. The three-dimensional boxes have walls sewn inside the comforter providing depth and even distribution of the fill. To enhance its durability we finish our comforters and pillows with fabric piping using double-needle stitching. Our comforters have corner loops that simplify the process of attaching it to a duvet cover and guarantees that the comforter stays in place.

From Silky Sateen to Crisp Cambric and Airy Batiste, we have something to keep every sleeper comfortable. Cambric and Batiste are a lightweight plain weave claimed to be one of the finest and most dense kinds of fabric available. Sateen is a fabric with a characteristically silky surface and high luster due to the high number of floats produced through the satin weave structure.

Down Care The first step to care for your down bedding is to keep the comforter protected with a duvet cover and the pillows with our Tenor Pillow Protector in addition to pillowcases. The extra layer of fabric which easily can be washed will serve as a protector from dust, dirt and body oils. Frequently fluff your down comforter and pillows by giving it a few daily shakes. The steady flow of air will bring back its natural loft. On a dry breezy day, you may air de’ Medici’s down products outside, but avoid direct sunlight. Frequent or improper washing of down can lead to excessive wear and tear and shorten its longevity and optimum performance. A properly cared for down product will only need washing every five years or so or only when soiled. We strongly recommend that our products are cleaned by a professional launderer that is experienced with handling down. It is possible to wash down products at home, but residential machines are often too small and have an agitator which may harm your bedding. We do not recommend it, but if washed at home, use a front loading commercial style washer with non-bleach detergent on a gentle cycle. It is important to dry on low heat in a large machine until the product is completely dry; any lumps or smell of fill indicates dampness. Add a couple of clean tennis balls so that the fill moves as it dries. Down does not like humidity. To avoid mildew and mold, we recommend a dry well-ventilated storage space. Do not compress down during storage; give your comforter and pillows enough space to air and breathe.
