Class of 2022
Dear Graduates, Commencement, college graduation day, is a very special time for all involved — for your proud parents, friends and family, but of course, primarily for you, from this day forward, a graduate of the class of 2022. Congratulations! You did it! You completed a rigorous course of study that will change your life. No one can ever take away what you have accomplished, nor what you have learned. Your life, and the lives of your loved ones will be better because of what you have accomplished. Each of you has a story to tell. Most of you have had to overcome significant obstacles to earn your diploma, including the challenges of balancing multiple family, work and life responsibilities during particularly difficult times. Some of you are the first in your family to graduate from college, which only makes your accomplishment even more significant. Because of you, your children and their children are now much more likely to follow your footsteps and earn a college degree. So, go tell your story. Tell others how good it feels to accomplish something so important, so life-changing. Let me also ask you to reflect upon what it took to get here, what you needed to do to complete the work necessary to earn your diploma. Think about the skills you had to learn in order to be successful — goal setting, time management, commitment, hard work, and persistence. Now, think about your next big goal and apply these same skills to accomplish it, and then the goal after that. Think about how good it feels today, and how good it will feel again each time you achieve your next goal. Let me sum up my charge to you. Go tell your story to anyone who will listen. Tell them the keys to your success. Pass on what you have learned. Be proud of your accomplishment. Have confidence in yourself. Know that in bettering yourself you have bettered your family and your community. Have faith and optimism in the future. Know that all things are possible. Dream big, and then act upon your dreams. Commencement is also my favorite day of the year, and this year we get to celebrate your accomplishment in-person for the first time in three years. I so look forward to shaking each of your hands and offering my most sincere “We are proud of you!”

Dear Graduates, As the President of Muscatine Community College (MCC), I congratulate you on your outstanding achievement — your graduation. I speak for the entire MCC team when I say we are honored that you not only decided to let us be a part of your academic journey, but also celebrate this milestone with us. It’s the first of many milestones that are ahead of you. Many of you will continue on to earn even greater achievements that may include further degrees or career advancements. You have demonstrated with this accomplishment that you have whatever it takes to pursue that next step. The pandemic has affected everyone these last two years and may have made you wonder about the future. There was a level of fear and uncertainty that affected our daily living. Some of that uncertainty may still exist, but what is certain is what you hold in your hand tonight. Your diploma. You did it. We share in your pride in graduating from MCC.
