EASTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY

YOUR COLLEGE CHOICE As a Cincinnati Public School (CPS) student, Eastern Kentucky University offers several opportunities for you on your path to a college degree. From programs helping you navigate the college process to financial assistance keeping education affordable, EKU wants to be your college choice. With EKU’s campus just an hour-anda-half from Cincinnati, you can go away to college for less, but still be within a short drive from home.

PAYING FOR COLLEGE

You may be eligible for a range of financial assistance – from a discounted out-of-state tuition rate to a full tuition award! Here’s how EKU keeps college affordable for you:

DISCOUNTED OUT-OF-STATE TUITION RATE If you’re in good academic standing and are admitted to EKU by Feb. 1, you’re automatically eligible for a discounted out-of-state tuition rate. The discount amounts to nearly $9,000 off EKU’s regular out-ofstate tuition rate. If you’re a high achiever when it comes to your grades, you may also qualify for additional merit aid. ——————————————

IN-STATE TUITION RATE AND MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS If you have a 3.0 unweighted GPA, graduate from a CPS designated high school and are PELL eligible as determined by the FAFSA, you qualify for the PELL Plus program. This allows you to attend EKU at the in-state tuition rate, even though you’d be an out-of-state student, and receive an automatic merit scholarship equal to those offered to Kentucky residents based on high school GPA and standardized test scores.

FULL COST OF ATTENDANCE Annually, two PELL Plus eligible students are nominated by CPS administration for the New Horizon Award, covering the cost of attendance after federal grant aid, loans and expected family contribution (EFC) are applied. For consideration for the New Horizon Award, you must meet the following requirements: • Apply to EKU by Feb. 1 • Submit a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Feb. 1 and be qualified to receive PELL assistance • Apply for the New Horizon scholarship by Mar. 1 • Submit two letters of recommendation to the CPS administrator, with one letter from a participating community-based organization outside of CPS. —————————————————————————————————
