Have you heard stories in the media about funeral directors taking advantage of people? Sadly, it is becoming more common. At a time when someone they love has passed away, families are incredibly vulnerable. Yet they place an enormous amount of trust in their funeral director to care for the person they love. The betrayal of that trust by unscrupulous people is inexcusable. So how can you avoid being placed in such a situation? Here are 5 tips to protect yourself. 1. Phone 2 or 3 funeral directors to request itemised quotes on email. Items which will effect the cost include: • Burial or cremation? • For burial - what cemetery and do you already own a grave? • Weekday or weekend funeral? • Single service or dual service (ie. place of worship first followed by crematorium/ graveside)
