What is HealthWorks? 12 week physical activity referral scheme designed to provide opportunities for people to improve their health and become more active.

You can access the scheme if you:

How much does it cost?

There is no cost for your initial consultation, follow up appointments or design of your programme. The use of the facilities however are not free of charge, but HealthWorks referrals receive a discounted rate for activities that fall under the scheme.

Activities Available Places Leisure Centre, Eastleigh:

Gym workout – Equipment includes the latest cardiovascular and resistance machines on which you will be given full instruction and a personal programme. Gym Support Sessions – A member of the HealthWorks team will be on hand to help. Please enquire for days and times. Deep Water Aqua Therapy – A no impact class ideal for those

with back problems, arthritis, or recovering from injury.

Swimming – The 25m main pool is used for a mixture of general and lane swimming. Group Exercise Classes – See page 6 & 7 Health Walks – See page 8 HealthWorks also operate from Wildern Leisure Centre, Hedge End. Activities available include gym workout, aqua therapy and swimming. HealthWorks

You don’t have to be sporty to be fit! Your own fitness level should meet the needs of your daily life. You should be able to climb the stairs, take a brisk walk and perform other daily activities without getting breathless or tired.

Cancer Physical Activity Scheme HealthWorks and Macmillan run a Cancer Physical Activity Scheme for those that have had a diagnosis of cancer and are either undergoing or completed treatment. All of our instructors hold a Nationally Recognised Level 4 Qualification in Cancer Rehabilitation which provides them with both the knowledge and understanding to guide individuals with cancer to a healthier lifestyle through physical activity intervention and behaviour change. Being active during and after treatment can help manage some of the side effects of cancer treatment, such as: R educing cancer related fatigue Reducing stress and anxiety I mproving low mood or depression I mproving bone health and helping prevent osteoporosis § I mproving heart health § Building muscle strength § H elping maintain a healthy weight § § § §

Breeze Cycles

Low level Circuits

Breeze rides are free women only rides designed to make women feel confident about going on a bike ride, and have lots of fun along the way.

This class is particularly suitable for anyone with medical conditions such as cardiac, cancer and pulmonary.

Healthworks host a monthly 1 hour easy paced cycle ride covering approximately 5-6 miles from Places Leisure Eastleigh.

NeuroFit

These sessions are suitable for older people who are unsteady and will help them to undertake their normal daily routines and improve their balance.

An exercise class tailored for people with neurological conditions such as MS, Parkinson’s or those who have had a Stroke.

5-0 Activity Mornings Places Leisure Eastleighs 5-0 club sessions are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9am-12 noon. Activities include: § badminton § short mat bowls § table tennis § or you can enjoy a class,

swim or gym workout.

The sessions provide an excellent opportunity to be active, meet new friends and enjoy a chat over tea or coffee in the centres café. Please enquire at Places Leisure Eastleigh (023 8068 4800) for specific 50+ sessions and prices.

Activity Buddy Scheme The scheme pairs volunteers with disabled people to take part in a variety of sport and activities offered by Places Leisure Eastleigh. SportWorks SportWorks provides a varied programme of sport and physical activity opportunities to encourage adults within the Eastleigh Borough to be active at least once a week.

Ongoing opportunities Walking Football - 5 a-side Football for over 50s available at five different locations across the Borough. Low impact, with no running or slide tackling, it provides players the chance to get back playing the game they once loved.

New Year New You This campaign offers a wide range of subsidised 6-10 week beginner courses throughout January to help residents make regular weekly exercise part of their routine.

Summer of Sport This campaign offers a variety of sport and fitness taster sessions for adults to try during the month of August. All sessions are tailored as introductory taster sessions, enabling residents to give something new a try and get fit and active in the process.

Mum and Baby Exercise Classes In partnership with Places Leisure Eastleigh, SportWorks provides a range of post-natal exercise classes, exclusively for new mums. Classes include Mum and Baby Spin, Buggy Workout and Mum and Baby Legs, Bums and Tums. Boccia Club - Boccia is a Paralympic sport for athletes with disabilities that have a major impact on motor skills. This club runs every Wednesday from 2pm-3pm at Pavilion on the Park and welcomes complete beginners or experienced players alike.
