Get healthy get active! Thousands of local residents of all ages are getting active and healthier as part of a range of projects run by or supported by your Council. The wide range of popular activities helps to tackle issues such as obesity, smoking, heart and respiratory issues, together with dementia. Our HealthWorks team provide ‘Steady and Strong’ classes that are aimed at older adults who may be at risk of falling. Led by qualified Postural Stability Instructors, the exercises are aimed at improving strength, balance, flexibility and the confidence to carry out daily activities. They also work with Macmillan Cancer Support to develop and promote our Cancer Physical Activity Scheme for those people who have had a diagnosis of cancer and are either undergoing or have completed their treatment. The activity scheme helps to tackle the effects of cancer treatment by reducing fatigue, stress and anxiety and improving low mood/ depression and building strength (see page 4). This year, thousands of residents of all ages have signed up for a number of exciting physical activity initiatives including a ‘New Year New You’, ‘Summer of Sport’ programme and ‘Park Sport’- a programme for children of between 8-16 years of age. Recycling collection points for real Christmas trees have been set up around the borough. Trees can be dropped off between 3-16 January at the following collection points:

A new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) is set to open later this year in Chestnut Avenue, Eastleigh. Hampshire County Council is replacing the HWRC in Woodside Avenue, Eastleigh with a new, better facility at Stoneycroft Rise.

The new site will open later this year promising less queuing, quicker turnaround times, better access for people with disabilities and less road disruption. capacity and the opportunity to recycle a wider variety of materials.

Changes to HWRC’s Hampshire County Council are changing the opening times of all HWRCs across the county. From 1 January 2017 they will now open at 11am and will be closed on a Thursday.

Local residents are reminded that Hampshire County Council have also started charging for the disposal of ‘DIY’ waste such as soil and rubble, bricks, tiles, plasterboard and asbestos at their HWRCs which includes four sites in the borough. The HWRCs are also offering a new trade waste service to small businesses.

physical activity and behaviour change.

The Cancer Physical Activity Scheme is open to anyone who is pre-treatment, undergoing or post treatment. We accept referrals from health care professionals, including Cancer Nurse Specialists, GP’s, Physiotherapists and Oncologists, as well as selfreferrals.

These can include a reduction in cancerrelated fatigue, decreased levels of stress/anxiety, maintenance of a healthy weight and improving overall wellbeing. All of our instructors hold a nationally recognised Level 4 qualification in Cancer Rehabilitation and are trained to guide individuals towards a healthier lifestyle through

The scheme is designed to be a stepping stone back to physical activity. Following an informal consultation, our team of professionals will create a physical activity programme tailored just for you and will be on hand to provide you with advice and ongoing support. Who is your local sporting hero? Now is your chance to nominate high-achieving sportspeople, and those behind the scenes who make it happen, in the prestigious annual Eastleigh Sports Awards for 2016. The awards are a celebration of the success of the many talented and dedicated players, coaches, teams, juniors, volunteers, officials and clubs from across the borough. The awards, organised by the Eastleigh Sport and Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA), culminate in a grand ceremony at the Hilton at the Ageas Bowl on Monday 13 February. The Council’s Cabinet Lead for Leisure, Cllr Alan Broadhurst, said: “This is a fantastic way to

highlight local sporting success and the huge effort of the many people to make sport possible in our borough. If you know someone whose sporting efforts deserve to be recognised, please make sure you nominate them before the deadline.” To view the categories and nominate, visit www. eastleigh.gov.uk/sportsawards. Nominations close on Sunday 4 December.

Mohammed explained: “There are a large number of committed people doing great work around the Borough to celebrate diversity and build community cohesion. The award was inspired by the huge passion my parents had for creating an inclusive society and recognising these unsung efforts.” To make a nomination download the form at www.awca-eastleigh.org. uk or contact Mohammed Mossadaq on 07870 163464. New electoral arrangements for Eastleigh The borough is to be represented by five fewer councillors following recommendations from the independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England. This follows an eight-week public consultation on the draft proposals and draws new boundaries for each council ward across Eastleigh. The final recommendations propose that Eastleigh should be represented by 39 councillors in the future: five fewer than the current arrangement. The recommendations also propose that those councillors should represent eleven three-member wards and three two-member wards across the borough. The proposed new arrangements should come into force at the council elections in 2018. Full details of the final recommendations are available at www.lgbce.org.uk

Have your say on Eastleigh constituency proposals The independent Boundary Commission for England has published its initial proposals for new Parliamentary constituencies. The publication marks the start of 12 weeks of consultation, during which the Commission needs to hear from you to help shape the proposed new constituency boundaries. It is proposed that the Hiltingbury and Chandler’s Ford areas of the borough, that currently form part of the Winchester Constituency, go to the Test Valley Constituency.

ousing benefit changes to H the Benefit Cap From November 2016, the Department for Works and Pensions (DWP) is reducing the level at which benefits are capped. The current cap of £26,000 a year for couples and families is being cut to £20,000, and the £18,200 for single people is reducing to £13,400. This means that the total amount of household benefits cannot be more than the new amount of the benefit cap. If it is then your housing benefit may go down and you would have to use money from your income or other benefits to pay towards the rent for your home. If the cap applies to you the DWP will have written to you to remind you that your housing benefit may go

down, and the council will confirm the exact date from when the changes will apply to you and what your revised housing benefit will be. If you find work, the benefit cap won’t apply to you if you are able to get Working Tax Credit. You can find out more about Working Tax Credit at www.gov.uk/working-tax-credit including how many hours you need to work to receive it.

History celebrated by tree grilles

Innovative public art that celebrates aspects of the town of Eastleigh’s history and at the same time helps protect a number of trees can now be enjoyed by visitors to the town. Seven new grilles, surrounding trees planted in Market Place on Leigh Road, are also helping to protect the tree roots whilst allowing rainwater through. The lines on the tree grilles follow the history of Eastleigh from the arrival of the railway through to the completion of the Market Place in 2015 with references to the people, places

and events that made Eastleigh what it is today. This includes the emergence of the railway upon which the town’s fortunes were built; the maiden flight of the Moonbeam aircraft in 1910, one of the first from Eastleigh aerodrome; the creation of the PLUTO pipeline (Pipeline Under The Ocean) that had such a decisive impact in the

D-Day landings and the recent development of Market Place. The scheme cost around £25,000 and was paid for by Eastleigh Local Area Committee from community contributions resulting from recent local developments. The grilles are made from prerusted steel and were cut using water jet technology. They are designed to develop a covering of rust as they age.

Vote for “rock climbing boulders” for Grantham Green Your vote could help secure funding for an exciting new rock climbing feature for Grantham Green, on Derby Road in Eastleigh. The Council has teamed up with local charity, One Community, who have applied for a £10,000 award from the Aviva Community Fund. When combined with match funding from the Council, this will be enough to create a fantastic new rock-climbing feature in the middle of Grantham Green. The feature is part of a major transformation of the Green funded by £277,500 from developers’ contributions. The planned focal point of the Green’s re-landscaping is a large earth mound. This

Crestwood College go green and get cycling Staff and students at Crestwood College have welcomed the introduction of a new fleet of pool bikes, funded by Eastleigh Local Area Committee, to enable staff to travel sustainably between their two college campuses at Shakespeare Road and Cherbourg Road (formerly Quilley School of Engineering). The college has been working closely with the Council and the local Sustrans Schools Officer to identify and purchase the most suitable bikes and equipment. Initially 10 bikes have been purchased for staff use; however it is hoped that in the future the scheme can be extended, allowing pupils to cycle between the two campuses for after school clubs, for example. Krista Dawkins, Head Teacher of Crestwood College, said: “I am delighted that we are working so closely with the Council and Sustrans. As a newly merged school the

scheme has helped us to think innovatively about transport between the sites. The scheme will benefit staff and students alike, whilst promoting cycling across the school.” As well as being encouraged to cycle to and from school, students are being urged to walk more regularly, with each new pupil being given their own pedometer. Crestwood College is well on its way to achieving Modeshift STARS accreditation; a national award presented to schools that show commitment to promoting active and sustainable travel.

Creating a sustainable borough

Borough’s first ‘A’ rated mobile home Margaret Wilson moved in to a park home at Grange Park, Hedge End less than a year ago and in that time has transformed it into one of the most energy efficient, ‘A’ rated homes in the borough.

When you buy or rent a home it will have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) showing its overall efficiency. The higher the rating the more energy efficient the home is and the lower your fuel bills will be. The most energy efficient homes are assigned a letter ranging from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient).

Since moving in, Margaret’s home has benefited from a range of energy saving initiatives, including a new roof with fibre glass insulation, new ceilings and externally insulated walls. Two new insulated floors were also installed along with a damp proof layer and LED lights. All of these initiatives are

potentially available to any property in the Borough. Fourteen PV solar panels were also installed on the new roof that produce ‘free’ energy during the day, and provides Margaret with an income as the excess electricity generated is sold back to the National Grid. Margaret said: “It has been a lot of work, but now I have a really well insulated home that is very energy efficient. It’s too early to compare my energy bills with last year but my home definitely warms up much quicker and stays warmer for longer. I’m looking forward to a warm and cosy winter.” If you would like more information about how you can make your home more energy efficient visit www.eastleigh.gov.uk/ energysaving

Can we grow more, waste less, cycle more, breathe cleaner air, generate our own energy, use less water? These are some of the challenges being looked at by a new community group that is being launched this November. ‘Eastleigh Sustainable Vision’ is a group of residents who are acting as ‘community ambassadors’ to encourage practical action and education in the community to improve the environment and help move towards a more sustainable Borough. The group have already launched a project to help residents recycle their food

waste and signing people up for a scheme to save money on their water bills. If you are interested in joining the group why not come along to this launch on 19 November at the Eastleigh Town Centre Christmas Lights Switch-On to find out more. Bags of help

Vote for Bags of Help for Lakeside trails and Hamble Parade Local people are being urged to cast their vote in the Tesco Bags of Help initiative to create superb new trails around Lakeside Country Park and major improvements to Coronation Parade in Hamble. Grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p plastic carrier bag levy – are being awarded to environmental and greenspace projects across the country and, this month, shoppers can head to local Tesco stores to vote for who they think should be awarded the top grant. The aim of the Council’s bid for Lakeside Country Park is to bring together people from all parts of the community to design activity trails to improve access, encourage heathier active lifestyles and raise

awareness of the Country Park and its ecology. Coronation Parade is in the running to receive a grant for exciting improvements to this small shopping area. If the bid is successful the funds will augment the council’s plans to resurface the area in front of the shops, redesign the steps to include tree planting and improve paving and parking. The aim is to give more prominence to the Parade which serves as a gateway to Hamble village.

Voting is open in stores until Sunday 13 November. Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop. You can vote for Lakeside Country Park at: • Tesco Express, Ashdown Road, Chandlers Ford • Tesco Express, Winchester Road, Fair Oak • Tesco Express, Twyford Road, Eastleigh • Tesco Express, Bishopstoke Road; Eastleigh • Tesco Metro, Swan Centre, Eastleigh • Tesco Express, Valley Park. Votes for Coronation Parade can be cast at Tesco Extra, Hamble Lane, Bursledon.

Latest News from Barton Peveril Sixth Form College • Adult Learning Peer Mentors lead the way in college student support Students from Barton Peveril have been celebrating after being chosen to lead the way in college peer mentor support.

11 students from the sixth form college have successfully completed an Emotional First Aid and Wellbeing Mentors Development Programme driven by the Solent NHS Trust. Barton Peveril are the first college taking part in the pilot, since its successful rollout in regional schools. The six month course led by Paul Jetten from the Solent NHS Trust saw students learn about anxiety management, promoting self-esteem and confidence, recognising stress and child protection. He said: “what has been incredible is the involvement, enthusiasm and creativity of the students. They’ve taken some key concepts and built a well-being mentor service that has been well received and is being embedded across the college. Their drive and determination has already seen some inspiring mentoring taking place which has already

made such a difference to the lives of students attending Barton Peveril.” Following their training, the students then put their new skills into practice by becoming peer mentors to others, helping them address their levels of anxiety, stress, and mental health and wellbeing. Helen Cunliffe, Barton Peveril’s Senior College Counsellor said: “The student wellbeing mentors have offered one to one support to students who’ve felt overwhelmed or anxious. They’ve also helped others with revision techniques and exam stress. Our peer mentors have thoroughly enjoyed being part of this NHS scheme and we are proud to be leading the way with college student support.” As well as one to one appointments with current

students, the peer mentors have also helped out at events such as Introductory Days and Open Evenings to support new students. So far the feedback has been positive all round – some students said they thought it would be awkward talking to someone their own age, but the mentors really helped, whilst others said they valued the support in the transition from school to college. Stuart Gemmell from the Solent NHS Trust attended a celebratory event at college to congratulate the students for completing the programme. Due to the success of the scheme, Barton Peveril plans to continue peer mentor support for this academic year, to ensure that all students have access to peer mentors if they need or want to.

Open Studio for UAL Foundation Diploma Students interested in creative careers can discover more about Barton Peveril’s prestigious Foundation Diploma course when the college hosts an Open Studio event on Saturday 3 December. Validated by University of the Arts, London (UAL), the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design prepares students for a broad range of art-related degrees at the most selective colleges and universities – the Oxbridge equivalents of the art world. Photography, fine art, moving image, fashion,

3D, illustration, textiles and graphic design are all represented in the pathways chosen by post-A Level students who spend a year exploring, extending and transforming their artistic practices. Around 60 graduates from the class of 2016 are continuing their studies at universities including the Mackintosh Glasgow School

of Art, Central St Martins, London College of Fashion, Goldsmiths, Camberwell and the Ruskin School at Oxford University. Many were selected from fields of up to 1000 applicants for one of just 20 places. The Open Studio event runs from 10am to 1pm. 40 Years of Fleming Park Leisure Centre

Fleming Park Pavilion - provided changing facilities for the sports pitches until the leisure centre opened

People across the borough are keenly looking forward to the opening of the new Fleming Park Leisure Centre – and there was similar excitement more than 40 years ago when the original building opened its doors. Fleming Park Leisure Centre under construction in the 1970s

Taking six years to plan and build, Fleming Park Leisure Centre was considered ahead of its time in the early 1970s, with saunas, a solarium, squash courts and two swimming pools. It replaced a large pavilion for cricketers and other users of the park. With thanks to Barry Kitchen of Eastleigh and District Local History Society who provided these images of Fleming Park Leisure Centre taken during the build and in the early years after it opened. To see more of the society’s excellent archive, visit www.eastleighhistory.org.uk

Gold medal-winning Olympic pentathlete, Mary (now Dame Mary) Peters, performed the opening ceremony 1974 – having triumphed in the Munich games two years earlier. Eastleigh’s own 1932 goldmedallist, speed walker Tommy Green, was also in attendance. Over the years, famous visitors have included footballers Sir

Bobby Charlton and Emlyn Hughes, swimmers David Wilkie and Duncan Goodhew and movie star Britt Ekland. In 2005 another Olympic medallist, Sally Gunnell, unveiled improvements that included a new, ground-floor entrance, the Council’s Health Works office, an extended restaurant and reception area, and a soft play area.

Local Plan The Council has prepared a Local Development Scheme (LDS) setting out its timetable for producing its Local Plan over the next two years. This new LDS sets out the intended programme for the continued preparation of the Eastleigh Borough Local Plan 2011-2036. The next key milestone is the pre-submission ‘Publication’ version of the Plan whereby consultees will be able to comment on the ‘soundness’ of the Plan and its preparation. The aim is to commence this eight week consultation period during May next year, and to finalise it ready for submission by September, for examination by the Planning Inspectorate.

The timetable set out in the LDS is challenging but has been set to demonstrate to all parties the Council’s willingness to address the planning issues facing the borough and bring certainty to communities. The LDS including a detailed explanation of the timetable is available at www.eastleigh.gov.uk/lds

Chandler’s Ford & Hiltingbury New Men’s Shed Men’s Sheds are places where men can meet in a safe and friendly venue to pursue practical interests. The Chandler’s Ford group meets every Friday afternoon, from 1pm to 3pm at the Hexagon Community Centre. The Hexagon has a well equipped workshop where

members work on projects of their own choosing and at their own pace. The small but growing membership has a wide range of skills, learnt either professionally or through their personal interests, and the shed puts these skills to practical use. If you are interested in joining the Chandler’s Ford Men’s Shed, please contact Steve

Hiltingbury Pavilion Designs exploring the feasibility of upgrading the Hiltingbury Pavilion to include a sports hall have been received from architects, TKL. If approved at the project board, the plans will go to the full Parish Council meeting for approval.

Neighbourhood Watch Grant Individuals and community groups can bid for up to £200 in small grants from the Proceeds from Crime Budget, which supports good causes in the local area. Bids could include things like re-painting a room, providing new sports kit, or paying for specialist advice. Ideas that benefit young or older people are particularly encouraged. To find out more,

email the Chair of the Eastleigh Neighbourhood Watch Association, Mike Anthony mikea.enwa.chair@gmail.com.

CFPC goes green Chandler’s Ford Parish Council is buying new grounds maintenance equipment that will keep the area really green – not only will the electric 4WD utility vehicle and electric power tools (including strimmers and hedge cutters) keep hedges and verges in trim - they will also save up to 30 tonnes in CO2 emissions.

PSPO Approved At September’s Chandler’s Ford and Hiltingbury Local Area Committee, members unanimously approved a Public Spaces Protection Order aimed at preventing drink-fuelled anti-social behaviour in the Chandler’s Ford shopping area. The PSPO has created a ‘no drinking zone’ in Chandler’s

Ford town centre giving police and council officers powers to ask individuals to stop drinking - and to confiscate alcoholic drinks if they are causing or likely to cause anti-social behaviour.

Hedge End, West End & Botley Youth Grants Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area Committee (HEWEB LAC) has continued its support for local organisations involved with services for young people. It has allocated £4,000 towards annual youth grants which last year were awarded to 12 groups including scouts, rangers, explorers and young carers. The picture shows the 10th Itchen North Scouts enjoying their Summer Camp on the Isle of Wight, which was supported by funding from

this grant process. For more information about how to apply for this year’s grants, please email donna.love@hedgeendtc.gov.uk.

Good news for train passengers Shelter for passengers at Hedge End train station will be greatly improved, with 40 per cent more cover, thanks to partnership working between South West Trains/Network Rail and the Borough Council. A new canopy shelter on Platform 1 and an extension to the existing shelter have been made possible with £16,000 from the Borough Council and £37,000 from the railway companies. Work should be completed in December.

Speed limits Roadside speed limit reminders (SLRs) have proved very effective and demand for them across the area is extremely high. In

recognition of this, the HEWEB LAC bought its own SLR a few years ago to supplement one provided by the County Council. Following comments from residents - and in consultation with LAC members, the police and Community SpeedWatch - 40 sites for the SLRs for 2017 have now been agreed - an increase of seven sites compared to last year.

Martial Arts comes to the Ageas Bowl Choi Kwang Do 4 Health, which offers martial arts and selfdefence classes to adults of all ages and abilities, was located in West End’s village centre but, due to redevelopment, the club had to find a new home. The Richards Room in the Ageas Bowl’s Pavilion is now host to the club and as the majority of Choi Kwang Do’s members live in the HEWEB area, this is extremely convenient. Children as young as five are able to start classes if accompanied by an adult. The emphasis is on

building confidence and getting fit and having fun. This is the latest community leisure activity operating from the Ageas Bowl which is also home to the highly successful Poseidon Boxing Club and Hedge End Running Club.

Defibrillator for Dowds’ Farm Local Councillors continue to support the roll out of defibrillators - which can provide invaluable first aid in the event of cardiac arrest - across the area. The latest publicly accessible defibrillator has been installed by the entrance to Wellstead Primary School, Hedge End. South

Central Ambulance Service www.scas.nhs.uk - has a map on its website and an app showing the locations of all of the publicly accessible defibrillators in your area.

Bishopstoke, Fair Oak & Horton Heath Bit of a squash Fair Oak Squash Club has been working with the Borough Council’s Sport & Active Lifestyles team on plans to upgrade its premises in the centre of the village. As well as attracting a wider range of members, bringing the building up to standard will enable

the venue to be an asset to all residents. The Local Area Committee (LAC) is providing funds towards the refurbishment in a partnership agreement with the club.

A “fantastic” Carnival “A fantastic community achievement “ – that was the verdict of the Parish Council

Chair, Cllr Anne Winstanley, on this year’s Bishopstoke Carnival. With so much reported about a general lack of community spirit, organisers of the event were keen to report that no such problem exists among Bishopstoke folk. The wide range of stalls and activities provided something for everyone and, once again, raised funds for good causes. New carnival helpers are always most welcome and can commit whatever time works for them. For further details email: bishopstoke.pc@btconnect.com - or call 023 8064 3428.

Safer parking To reduce anti-social and dangerous parking the LAC has agreed a number of traffic restrictions following requests from residents. Double

yellow lines will be placed in areas such as the bend on Blackberry Drive, opposite the Y Zone youth centre, where inconsiderate parking and speeding motorists have created a risk for pedestrians.

Local Area Committee - Acting Chairman Following the very sad death in office of Cllr Roger Smith, the LAC has appointed the ViceChair, Cllr Trevor Mignot, as Acting Chairman. Trevor brings over 20 years’ experience as Vice-Chair to the role and is also a well-respected councillor for both local parish councils.

Mr Mayor This year’s Mayor of Eastleigh is Cllr Des Scott, a Member of the LAC. He and the Mayoress are keen to hear from anyone who would like to hold an event to raise funds

Eastleigh Lakeside Centre previewed Residents and user groups were given a sneak preview of the Lakeside Centre, the new home for users of Eastleigh Lakeside Country Park at a fabulous Family Fun Day. The centre supports a range of activities, including: canoeing, angling, model

boating, open-water swimming, Newfoundland dog rescue training and the new Lakeside Weightlifting Club. It includes improved changing rooms and Changing Places disabled facilities, a multi-purpose training and conference suite that is available for hire and can accommodate up to 60 people, rentable office space, and a permanent home

for some of the Council’s Countryside staff who take care of the park and its users. Visit www.eastleigh.gov.uk/ lakeside or to find out more about room hire opportunities, call Jenna Dewhurst on 07775 672766.

Leigh Road pavement and cycleway improvements A new cycleway and pavement has been installed along Leigh Road from Southampton Road to Upper Market Street, providing an improved link between the station forecourt and the re-designed Market Place. The £65,000 scheme has been jointly funded by the Borough Council and Hampshire County Council. The scheme includes re-laying the uneven footway and re-surfacing the red-coloured cycle lane to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians. It also includes introducing a series of traffic

islands so cyclists will not have to cycle against the traffic flow as a result of cars parking in the cycle lane. Chair of Eastleigh Local Area Committee, Cllr Paul Bicknell, said: “This is another great example of the Council’s ongoing programme of regeneration in Eastleigh town centre.”

Cornwall Road Play Area A brand new play area has been installed at the junction of Devon Drive and Cornwall Road on the Velmore Estate. This has proved to be a great hit already with the many children living nearby. The project was funded by developers’ contributions as part of the Velmore Estate redevelopment. It is part of the wider on-going plan to invest in our play areas and open spaces.

Bursledon, Hamble-le-Rice & Hound Consultation on improvements for Coronation Parade Local Councillors were asked to approve a consultation on significant improvements at Coronation Parade in Hamble at November’s Bursledon, Hamble-le-Rice and Hound Local Area Commitee (BHH LAC). This includes resurfacing the area in front of the shops and redesigning the steps to include tree planting. (See page 12.) The Council is also working hard to identify funding for improved parking facilities.

Improving the school run in Netley A mini-crossing on Grange Road is now complete and is helping to ease school-run traffic congestion around the front of Netley Junior and Infants schools; more parents

now park at the Netley Grange pub and enter the school through a newly installed gate. Please do what you can to make the school run safe, healthy, fun and good for the environment.

Keep your speed down Evidence shows that most speeding is carried out by local motorists. The LAC is encouraging everyone to keep speeds down, by funding flashing speed signs that are deployed at 24 key locations, each for a two-week period. Locations include Ingleside, Victoria Road and Grange Road in Netley; Satchell Lane, Copse Lane and Hamble Lane (outside the new Folland Court development) in Hamble, and Dodwell Lane and Bridge Road in Bursledon.

Parking investigations There are several parking problems across the area. You can help by using any off-street parking you have available, and by parking safely and responsibly. Councillors have agreed a priority list of schemes for investigation including Hound Road, New Road, Priory Road/St Edwards Road, Moorhill Gardens, Station Road, Long Lane, and Bridge Road/ Close.

Planning application rejected A second proposal for 230 houses on land east of Grange Road (behind the Roll Call pub) was rejected on 22 September. This follows Eastleigh Borough Council’s successful rejection of this application at an appeal several weeks earlier.

Follow ‘Money Saving Expert’ advice and book an MOT with your Council Eastleigh Borough Council’s team of professional technicians, based at the Hedge End Depot in Botley Road (SO30 2RA) offer a comprehensive MOT testing service for cars, light vans, class IV or large panel vans between 3,000kg and 3,500kg (class VII). Martin Lewis’s www.MoneySavingExpert.com website recommends council MOT testing centres: “Thousands of savvy MoneySavers have used

(council) test centres and the vast majority report their cars either consistently pass the test, or need fewer repairs compared with MOTs done at other garages.”

Because the Council’s MOT team does not provide a repairs service, if your vehicle fails you will only be advised on what work is needed to get it through a retest. Tests can be carried out while you wait, but it is essential to book your test in advance. To book your vehicle in with us, book online at www. eastleigh.gov.uk/motbooking or call our MOT Direct line on 023 8068 8389.
