Eastleigh Borough Council’s SportWorks team are delighted to bring you the New Year New You programme. Access a wide range of subsidised 6-10 week sport and fitness courses to help make weekly exercise part of your 2017 routine. All courses are tailored for beginners and all starting levels of fitness, so there has never been a better time to make your New Year’s resolution to get healthy and active a reality. Courses are available to participants aged 16 and over.

Couch to 5K Taking up running can seem like a scary prospect, especially if you feel out of shape or unfit. Couch to 5K starts with a mix of running and walking and gradually builds up your fitness and stamina. This course is very much aimed at those new to running. Weightlifting Find your strength with this beginner course hosted by Lakeside Weightlifting. Lifting is about having all the fun whilst getting stronger, faster, fitter and more agile for life. HealthWorks has a 12 week Physical Activity Referral Scheme to provide opportunities for people to improve their health and become more active. If you are aged 16 and over, are sedentary, at risk of coronary heart disease (high blood pressure, diabetes, overweight) or have a medical condition that would benefit from physical activity (cancer, cardiac, pulmonary, mental health, neurological, post op) then ask your GP/Nurse/Physio to refer you or you can self-refer onto the scheme. Activities available include gym sessions, deep water aquatherapy, falls prevention classes, low level circuits, swimming and Health walks.

Breeze Cycling

Health Walks

Breeze is a national initiative developed by British Cycling to encourage more women to get cycling and develop confidence on their bike, in a friendly and social environment. HealthWorks host free monthly easy paced Breeze Rides starting from Fleming Park Leisure Centre. The next ride is Wednesday 18 January starting at 9.30am.

Stay active by enjoying a local free Health Walk. Health Walks are led by volunteers and last for about 1 hour and run all year round, whatever the weather. The walks are a great way to socialise, and improve your health and wellbeing. All Health Walks are free and all you need is a good pair of shoes. Walking Football and Walking Netball offer a slowed down, low impact version of the games aimed at over 50s. Many individuals have not only benefited from the social and competitive elements of playing, but have seen huge health benefits as a result as well. Walking Football is currently available at 4 sites across the borough of Eastleigh. Walking Netball is available on Thursdays 2-3pm at Fleming Park Leisure Centre.
