This will be the first time that another artist has been shown alongside Henry Moore in the Gallery and 70 acres of gardens at Perry Green in Hertfordshire, Moore’s home for over 40 years until his death. The Musée Rodin has generously agreed to lend Rodin’s Adam 1881, the third maquette for The Gates of Hell c.1881-82 and Walking Man, Large Torso 1906. The exhibition also includes an extensive selection of drawings by both artists and the first ever showing of a set of photographs taken by Moore of his cast of Walking Man at Perry Green. explore There are so many animals to meet at Shepreth Wildlife Park you won’t know where to start. Marvel at the sheer ‘roar’ power of the tigers in the Big Cat House or spy upon the mischievous primates on Monkey Island. Getting up, close and personal is what it’s all about. No visit to the park is complete without visiting the Nocturnal House. Get to know the bats in their darkened cave where they swoop just inches from your head. For those afraid of what inhabits the dark, why not try something a little friendlier - what about hand-feeding the ducks or even the fish in the lake
www.enjoyhertfordshire.com
You can also explore the alien world of fish, reptiles and invertebrates in Waterworld & Bug City, better still why not conquer your arachnophobia at one of the hands-on experiences in this wondrous and exotic indoor attraction.

!!"#$%&'$()*+$# Hedgehogs S pring is in the air finally, and this can only mean one thing – hedgehog release season. The traditional nickname for people from Hertfordshire is ‘Hertfordshire Hedgehog’ and despite the abundance of hedgehogs found in the county, the nickname is more likely to have derived from haycock. Hay being one of our key exports sold at London markets in medieval times. The team at the Shepreth Hedgehog Hospital has been working tirelessly over the past few months to get one of the nation’s favourite mammals back into our countryside – the hedgehog. 76 ‘hogs’ are now fit and healthy and ready to brave the outside world again. Some even weigh in at over 1kg, a far cry from their former underweight, bodies, when they were brought to the centre. The Hedgehog Hospital opened last autumn, with over 70 hedgehogs moving in straightaway to be cared for by the newly-trained team of hedgehog volunteers,

you can help the Shepreth Hedgehog Watch by downloading a form at www.swccharity.org. This will help track post-release success. A prototype GPS ‘backpack’ is being developed and if successful will be attached to several hedgehogs released later in the year. This post-release monitoring will provide scientific evidence of the unknown survival and breeding success rates of the hedgehogs. For more information look on www.swccharity.org.uk, or, if you would like to help fund the Hedgehog Hospital’s work, you can donate online at www.justgiving.com/SWCC/donate.

and it has been full to capacity ever since. The conservation charity doesn’t want the care they have taken looking after the hedgehogs to be in vain, and has spent the past few months travelling all over Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk looking for the very best areas suitable for a successful hedgehog release. Students at Melbourn Village College have also been working hard this year to build all the ‘Hedgehog Homes’ for the soft-release pens where the hedgehogs will spend their first two weeks. All hedgehogs are tagged with a unique blue identity chip. You can help with tracking where the hedgehogs go, so if you spot a tagged hedgehog
The park provides lots of unique experiences from hand feeding the ring-tailed lemurs to playing with meerkats in Meerkat Manor. For those under 18’s, the education team are on hand to amaze young minds with their ‘Bug Parties’ where children can get a ‘handson bug experience’ in their very own home, or if you’re the next Attenborough and enjoy exploring all things wild, then ‘Junior Conservationist’ is just for you. Why not try at being a real-life Animal ‘Keeper for a Day’ with the unique opportunity to shadow an experienced member of the animal team. If you build up a ‘lion’s’ appetite take a trip to Ringo’s Play Barn, where you can relax, while your little ones can let off steam in the indoor adventure play area, or if the sun is shining, watch outside as they play on the pirate ship or be ‘king of the castle’ on this mighty building complete with tube slide, and climbing frame. So, if one trip to this wildlife haven just isn’t enough, this is where the Shepreth Wildlife Park ‘Family Discount’ card is on hand. For just £10, anybody named on the card can explore the park at a significantly reduced price again and again throughout the year. Look on www. sheprethwildlifepark.co.uk for more information.

Welcome to Watford… for you We are proud to welcome you to our growing, prosperous town. With our diverse population we think everyone will feel at home
Watford has activities and attractions to suit all tastes: parks, museums, leisure centres and sporting events for the whole family. There’s a wide range of shopping and dining opportunities as well as theatres, cinemas, pubs, music venues and nightclubs for after-hours entertainment. Watford enjoys an enviable proximity to the UK’s transport network. Its location just inside the M25 at junction 19 and 20 and just off the M1 at junction 5 ensures it simply couldn’t be easier to get here. Alternatively, Watford can be reached by tube on the Metropolitan Line and for destinations to the North or the South, via overground services into Watford Junction. Here is just a taster of what our town has to offer…
Shop til you drop! Intu Watford is Hertfordshire’s largest shopping centre. It opens seven days a week and has over 140 shops and restaurants under its roof including John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Apple, Karen Millen, Primark, Disney Store, Lakeland and Zara, to name just a few.
Entertainment for all Fancy a night at the theatre? Watford can offer anything from a show at the theatre to a night out dancing! Watford Palace offers a vast array of theatre, dance, films and more, and many of its productions have enjoyed critical acclaim. Opened in 1908, the Palace Theatre has a long tradition of launching new productions before they hit the West End. Contact the Box Office to discover which

comedies, plays and musicals are featuring in the forthcoming season. It also boasts a 3D cinema screen showing the best new releases and classic favourites. Watford Colosseum is a 1392 seat venue in the heart of Watford, which is home to the best live music and entertainment outside London with recent acts including One Direction, Level 42 and Jimmy Carr. The Colosseum has had a £5.5 million refurbishment to bring it up to the standard of a world class venue it once was, complete with a Café, Restaurant and a number of bars as well as the main auditorium. Oceana Watford opened its doors in September 2008. Since then it has cemented its status as being one of the best clubs in the South East, and Watford’s only Super Duper Club. So far Oceana Watford has hosted some of the biggest acts in the

music industry from Calvin Harris to Annie Mac. It also boasts a breathtaking main stage, 3 club rooms and luxurious VIP Bar. So come on down and experience an Oceana night out.

his summer, St Albans commemorates the 800th anniversary of its unique heritage as a Magna Carta Charter Town. Churchmen and barons, led by Stephen Langdon the Archbishop of Canterbury, held their first meeting in St Albans in 1213 to discuss their grievances against King John. This historic meeting eventually led to the articles that became Magna Carta, signed at Runnymede in 1215. The Magna Carta is the historical document which set out the basic rights and freedoms of common people, including the right to trial by jury. It also provided for regulation of the power of the monarchy. Since the 13th Century, it has continued to underpin legal systems across the world and is still relevant today, forming the basis of the constitution of democratic countries such as the United States of America and Australia.
