Eastrea Village News THE EASTREA CENTRE — FINALISING THE DESIGN AFTER many delays the Village Hall Trust has finally been given full ownership of the land and we have now managed to obtain a design that matches the original concept. In addition, the arrangements for our funding are in the final stages. When we lost the opportunity for the original £1,000,000 hall through the delays in planning permission, we asked Rose Homes (our developers) to produce a design for our village hall but at half the cost. Then the Trust went back and asked them to reduce the build cost to less than one-third of the first budget, and Roses managed to do

this too. They have now come up with a design we can afford. A sub-committee has made their choice of colours (below). These now have to be submitted to Fenland District Council for approval. A public meeting of Eastrea residents will be held at the Nag’s Head public house at 7.00 p.m. on Wednesday 12th May 2010. The plans will be available and the developers on hand to answer any questions that villagers wish to ask. Residents will be able to approve the

2010 executive committee. Many of the current committee have said they are willing to stand again. Residents of the village can vote to appoint the board of trustees. The

next stage is agree all the building regulations. This complicated legal procedure should take most of the summer and building the hall should then be able to start.

Ms Becki Suckow from Kelful Close (right) has been given a sports equipment award by The Storers to join the junior women’s team in the White-water Rafting World Championships in the Netherlands in July. Becki was presented with her certificate and cheque by Mrs Jan Ford, clerk to the Storers. Says Mrs Ford, “Each year grants are offered to students and this year we have been able also to make this new sports award.” The ancient Storers trust, also known as the Herds and Bulls Grass Fund, was founded in 1717 and they host the annual Eastrea senior citizens’ lunch (see next page). Mrs Ford reminds all Eastrea residents, “The Storers can also make financial grants to villagers facing hardship, or towards a specific project. All personal support grants are always kept completely confidential.” Phone 350 888 for further details.
