Eastrea Village News THIS map of our village dates from about 1720, and shows some of the features that are still evident today. The level ground south of the main Road (the ‘Fields’ in this map) are mostly farmed to the present day. Note that the area which we now call Springfields was known as ‘Fieldale’ at the time of this old map.

ON-SITE EXPERIENCE COMMITTEE MEMBERS and developers have visited many other village halls in the region to ensure that we have the best and most up-to-date advice in planning our own hall. A team from Eastrea village hall recently toured the Wisbech St Mary Sports and Community Centre. This sprawling development is set in 20 acres of playing fields. Our architect David Broker (left) is a director of that community centre and has been involved with running the site for many years. In Eastrea, we have been advised by village hall committees, notably from Doddington, Coates and Alwalton. We are grateful to everyone who has offered advice, and have done all we can to ensure that our plans take all their experience into account. Our funding has covered major areas (like furnishing the meeting room and entrance hall, the kitchen, design of a control room for the main hall, and the seating and tables) and — now that building work is at last under way — we will now be seeking funds for equipment, storage, display screens, etc.
