Eastrea Village News No 33: November 2012
VILLAGE HALL HOLD-UP PROGRESS ON THE VILLAGE HALL has slowed to a near-standstill as special brackets are produced to fix the roofing panels. This is a second hold-up; the first was due to the extra time needed to manufacture the steel frame. Our new building has a unique, asymmetrical design so measuring and cutting the steel proved to be an intricate task. The design also has a superb open ceiling, so strengthening shoulders were incorporated to avoid any cross-beams blocking the view. When the roofing panels arrived on site it was found that specially designed brackets would also have to be obtained. The building is now scheduled for completion in February, though this does not interfere with plans for the opening ceremony in May or June 2013.
Next Public Meeting in December A PUBLIC MEETING at the Nag’s Head held on 31 October agreed changes in design for the new Eastrea Centre. The use of silver finished ceiling lamps (rather than more costly LEDs) was agreed, and it was thought best to lower the ceiling for the foyer café to allow a load bearing floor to be erected above. In future, there could even be a second floor installed; for the present, this will be a control room. The final Section 38 Agreement by Cambridgeshire County Council Highways—after more than two years in preparation!—had been hastily compiled and was unanimously declined, so it was returned to the lawyers. Two residents, Mrs Sue Stamper and Mr Edward Groves, asked for information on the new company, Eastrea Centre Ltd, and were told that it was a dormant company set up to register the name, and the form of the future management body was yet to be finalised. In any event, as is the case with the current Trustees, no Director could ever be paid, and all the money raised would always be exclusively for the benefit of Eastrea and the village hall. This would be legally written into the constitution at the outset. Next public meeting is on 4 December.
STORERS STUDENT
The 2012 student grant from The Storers has been awarded to Ms Alice Cutts who is at college in Peterborough. Each year the Trust can give grants to promising Eastrea students, many of whom have qualified and are successful professionals.
Rothay House, 6 Mayfield Road, Eastrea.
Wise Mind LOCAL ELECTRICIAN Mr Tony Lane (above) is advising on all the electrical circuits for the new village hall. Known to many local householders (and now retired), Mr Lane, who lives less than a mile away in Coates, has had extensive experience and now, say our developers, his advice has been extremely useful in designing our wiring diagrams. The wiring will be installed by Tony’s son Michael, who lives in Eastrea.
REMEMBRANCE NOON on 11 November 2012 marks the commencement of the Eastrea remembrance service. Those who wish to attend should gather at the war memorial garden for a short act of remembrance to those who died.
