Eastrea Village News NAG’S HEAD LIVES ON TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY OUR village pub has had a reprieve. David Lepla, joint owner of the Nag’s Head with John Harris, tells us that the “For Sale” sign is due to be taken down at the end of this month. The present manager, Kevin Archer, will be leaving early October and taking a well-deserved break. Then the pub will be closed for 10-12 days, so that refurbishment work can be carried out on the apartment, the public rooms and also the kitchen. The new pub manager will be Lorraine Werner, who has served part-time behind the bar for several years.
NEW PUB MANAGER TO TAKE OVER LORRAINE WERNER, the new manager at the pub, is a legal assistant in March and says: “Kevin has been training me up. And he isn’t disappearing—he will be returning to advise me, and also to help out at peak times.” Says Kevin: “I have been working like this for twenty years and although I like the pub and its regulars so much, I really must have some social life now.” Lorraine says she wants to build on what Kevin has achieved, with the Burma Star group and the Lunch Club for retired residents continuing as before. “I do want the community to become involved,” she adds. “I am thinking of a drop-in morning on Tuesdays for mothers and toddlers, to have coffee and cake—and we will have plenty of toys for the children.” She plans to continue the beer festival each year (see p2), “with Kevin’s help,” adds Lorraine. The 2017 Beer Festival
July 17 saw the Nag’s Head public house thronged with many local residents and visitors (right) celebrating our annual Beer Festival. Among the entertainers were top Peterborough band ‘HotWired’ with their lead singer Sophie Goodacre and lead guitarist Dean Sheldrick (above and top right).
The Gables Summer Fete WHITTLESEY MAYOR Ralph Butcher (right) was a guest at the Gables Summer Fete at the Eastrea Centre. He said: ‘This hall is the ideal venue for these events!’ Performers were Dave the Cockney Crooner (below right) and Pete Hale (left). This was a crowded event. The Family Fun Day organised by the Eastrea Centre was said by visitors to be a low-key item this year; ‘Funk Soul Brother’ played, but there were no stalls this year, though there were bouncy castles for children.
