Division A is headed by the reigning champions, team Ken Smith. Attempting to challenge them are Not an Exit, Dodge Mahal, The Flying Llamas and 6God. Truly, they look primed to dominate this division. With a mix of baseball players like Andrew Bowen (‘16), basketball players like Olin McClendon (‘16) and other all-around athletes, they are a very well-rounded team of seniors. Dodge Mahal, a team of sophomores, performed admirably last year in their first tournament. They will likely feast on the rest of the division as well, with their hardest matchups being those against the champs. While not an Exit is highlighted by players like Rob Bica (‘16) and Mr. Hulme, they will have to prove themselves against some tough opponents if they hope to advance. Two more teams of sophomores, The Flying Llamas and 6God, are equally unproven, so any win for them is a feat due to such difficult opponents. Look for Ken Smith to win out easily, with a potential Dodge Mahal or Not an Exit wild card win.
Division B features seasoned veterans Chinstrap as the favorite to grab the division title. The team features top athletes like Vinny Team Name Guckin (‘16) as well as big arms like Jake Babroff (‘16). Look for Chinstrap to ride this combination far into the tournament. Chinstrap Don’t be surprised to see Your Mom’s Favorite Dodgeball Team surprise many and challenge Chinstrap for the top spot in the division. The Josh duo of Kagan (‘17) and Snyder (‘17) will look to carry the team to victory. The Boys will use their running skills to dodge as many balls The Boys as possible. Cross-country star Aaron Groff (‘16) will look to run the other teams into the ground. Your Mom’s FavorRaksh is an enigma in the tournament. Look for Christian ite Dodgeball Team Termine (‘17) and company to try to grab some wins. Big Daddy Semus Mathemat- Raksh ics will look to calculate the trajectory of the balls and use that to their advantage. Mr. Semus will be the wild card on the team. Big Daddy Semus

One of the most competitive divisions for this fall dodgeball tournament has to be Division C. Bruise R’ Us comes in with a new and improved squad, led by Anthony Uciferri (‘16). Mike Likogiannis (‘16), after about a year of building up, should be a great asset to the team. They will challenge Skillz That Killz, led by Skyler Colton (‘17), which came in second place in last year’s spring dodgeball tournament. Eastside has high expectations for the team to reach the finals once again. New team member Brandon Roche (‘16) replaces Will O’Kane (‘17), an interesting move made by the team. Throwsama Been Lobbin’ has shaky potential besides its creative team name. However, we could expect the unexpected from Viggy Vasu (‘16). Ratio Game Strong is led by Jason Fisch (‘16). The team consists of many members of CHE Hacks, including Bogdan Vitoc (‘16), so we can expect some smart strategies to be utilized. Jenn Andalora (‘16) leads 50 Shades of Shady, a new team with some experienced players including Girls Varsity Soccer star Alexa Beatty (‘16) (Sorry Lex, can’t use your feet for this one).

Division D features two dominant forces that will collide in a race for the playoffs. D6 Bound is predicted to square up and defeat ALM1GHTY KING5 to go 4-0 and head into the next round. The KING5 features Kyle Encarnacion, a wide-receiver for East Football, who has the hands that might change a game in the team’s favor. The KING5 are predicted to fight their way into a 3-1 position, resulting in the chance of winning one of two wild card spots. D6 Bound is led by two-sport varsity athlete Lee Rosen-Swell (‘16), who is supported by a team of athletic seniors. In the shadows of these two dominant squads are the Ball Buddies, the Above the Above Average Joe’s, and Berries and Cream. The Ball Buddies are made up of a group of junior friends led by robotics participant and model student David Kell (‘17). Although this team of robotics hopes to build a path to an unlikely playoff berth, the team is predicted to go third in the group and just miss the chance at glory. Following the Ball Buddies is the Above the Above Average Joe’s, a team of fresh-out-of-middle-school freshmen who hope to rise above expectations. Although the team is ready to make the statement that age does not matter, the odds of this team sneaking into the playoffs are pretty slim. When the regular games end, Berries and Cream is predicted to finish 0-4 and on its way home, unless Victor Chan can break out and maximize his potential to pull off big-time upsets.
Division E looks to be the most competitve of them all, with Smat Team and Las Vegas Police Department battling it out for first. Mitch Finkelstein (‘16) and Jesse Dubrow (‘16) will look to help Smat Team improve on its third place finish from the spring last year. Their biggest challenge will come from Las Vegas Police Department. Led by Jake Cerota (‘17) and Joey DiAntonio (‘17), LAVPD will look to use their big arms to overpower Smat Team and pull off the upset. Uncle Sam’s Boys will look to grab a few wins and end up in the middle of the pack. Look for Miles Bush (‘17) to try and carry the Boys to victory. Average Joes is an all-freshmen boys team. Led by Sean McKenna (‘19), they may be the surprise team in the division. If they can get the hang of East dodgeball quickly, they may challenge for a wild card spot. Bringing up the rear of the division is The Super Seven. Watch out for Lauren Romisher (‘16) and Laura Turkienicz (‘16) as they attempt to come away with at least one win.

Enjoy this fall dodgeball tournament. This is Eastside’s 20th tournament, and we are proud that it has become a twice-a-year East tradition. Events like these help us to print issues and run our website. We are proud to announce that Eastside has been named the #1 high school newspaper in New Jersey for seven consecutive years. Eastside also racked up 13 awards at the National High School Journalism Convention in Orlando last month.
Watch the event unfold on Wednesday, December 16.
Important Rules For Players... - Due to a smaller field of 25 teams, two teams will advance from the wild card round to make up our seven-team championship field (not just one as in the past). - Familiarize yourself with the registration packet, which explains all of the rules and guidelines in detail. - Players are not permitted to step outside the the borders of the court. Eastside staff will be in charge of retrieving any dodgeballs outside of the court. If a player violates this rule, he/she will be called out as if hit by a ball. - No arguing with the alumni and staff referees or any other Eastside staff members will be tolerated. Their rulings are final. Arguments or any foul play could result in being thrown out of the tournament and future tournaments. - If a player is hit and eliminated, he/she can make no intentional contact with a dodgeball. For example, no dodgeballs can be kicked or thrown out of frustration after a player is eliminated. The above rules and all previous rules will be strictly enforced by referees.
All teams MUST arrive by 6:30 p.m. Spectators should arrive by 7:00 p.m. Please be sure to visit www.eastside-online.org and www.youtube.com/eastsideonline afterwards for post-tournament coverage as well as coverage from past years! Follow us on Twitter @eastsideonline for updates.
