intro
As green shoots of global recovery sprout we’re seeing more than just grassroots growth. By adding value and spreading our passion for the sport we’re proud to bring our range to market. By weeding out jargon and cutting the hype, Fanatic’s organic produce is unique. Our team proudly use only home grown or off-the-shelf shapes for your benefit. By starving others of information and feeding only our own data rich CAD / CNC shaping system, we’ve won PWA trophies and magazine tests worldwide. So why save the best until last? Now it’s your turn to taste success.
Skates being used in the PWA Tour this year, the only thing between you and a World Title is the 4 times World Champion himself, go for it!
New Looks. New Constructions.
Beginners and Improvers
It was hard to keep our stunning new optics under wraps. An online explosion of images sent shockwaves through the web when our sexy polished rail effects and airbrushed effects went public. What’s more, we’ve taken steps to clean up the sport with more eco-friendly clear wood sandwich constructions, and with more efficient use of resins and cutting edge cloth we’ve pioneered the TeXtreme® layup with our flagship FreeWave 95.
Our benchmark Viper learner line remains the reference in its class. Ask any of our many school’s instructors – there’s simply no better option for rapid learning, progression and funboard excitement. For younger and lighter beginners there’s the smaller Viper 70 or the Ripper kids’ boards for the champs of the future.
Wave We’ve created a world of choice for cuttingedge performance riding. 4 styles for all conditions let you pick the sensations you dream of. Choose from FreeWaves for new skool and freeride fun, classic NewWaves for epic single fin feeling, Twin Fins for the purest in-the-pocket power, or Quads for extra drive and reaction.
Freestyle With 4 World Titles, PWA Freestyle World Champion Gollito Estredo leads our unbeatable team of cutting-edge tricksters. Add their skills to the craft and CAD ability of Sebastian Wenzel and you’ll see why the Skate is not only a world-beater, but a super fun freeride board too. With standard production
Rider: Victor Fernandez
Freeride. Freecarve. Freerace. Reach the top of the food chain with 3 swift & sleek Slalom predators. We’ve got every type of blasting, sliding and carving covered. From the speed and control of the Ray, to the hard swooping Hawk – plus the intermediates dream board – the Shark.
PWA Production Slalom The élite Falcon line’s now in its 3rd V-Bottom incarnation. With a new 148 for lighter airs the range is complete and identical for everyone from local speed junkie to F63 World Cup performance. Just ask our Fanatic rookie of the year, Pierre Mortefon after his win over 1000 competitors at the 2010 Defi Wind! We’re still as “Addicted to Ride” as ever. We know you’re hungry for more and nothing gives us greater pleasure than cooking up 5-star servings for you. They say the “proof of the pudding’s in the eating”, so whatever you do this season, make sure you try a Fanatic. Happy sailing and see you on the water!

Addicted to CNC
technologies TeXtreme®
Sebastian Wenzel CAD Shaping Whilst CAD technology ensures perfect shapes for Fanatic, the materials used are still of upmost importance on a windsurfing board. Our long standing partnership with the leading board producer is continually re-inforced by our commitment to exploring new materials and techniques. Whether it is the lightest, strongest or most durable construction, our product engineers are constantly on the search for new innovative materials, The TeXtreme® project is one of many examples of how a high tech material (in this case from the motorsport industry) can be incorporated into a Windsurfing board construction, with huge benefits. The Swedish producer of the TeXtreme® material, Oxeon, explains
It’s 7-years since Fanatic’s shaper Sebastian Wenzel began our pioneering CAD / CNC design and manufacturing system. Several seasons precise tuning and tweaking have perfected the process – time our competitors don’t have to catch up. This workflow’s backed-up by a huge data base of figures from countless tried and tested rocker lines, rail shapes and outlines. The resource grows daily as we learn daily during intensive periods of rigorous testing. With the stats to back it up with, we can confidently continue to innovate and present proven designs to you.
Sebastian Wenzel: “Even before we adopted the CAD system, I’d collected information from each board I’ve made since 1993. Every model ever to leave my shaping room has been archived with notes right down to even what grade of sandpaper I used and why. But even the best craftsmen can’t compete with the accuracy of a correctly configured CNC machine capable of milling to within a thousandth of a millimetre. It’s been an unforgettable journey to master this equipment, and even now we’re only just beginning to reap the benefits of the software’s powers. The advantage of accurately comparing prototypes side-by-side, guarantees progress. You only need to check magazine test results worldwide to realise that the vast amounts of time and money we’ve put into this project has put smiles on the faces of thousands of windsurfers.” With precision assured nothing can fault the input of our biggest asset – the Fanatic in-
ternational Team. This human element of feel by the most outstanding athletes in the sport is vital, and our strict standard for riders to use only Wenzel-shaped prototypes assures you of the most thorough test process in the industry.
TeXtreme® – How it works: TeXtreme® fabric is made using Oxeon’s Tape Weaving technology that uses Spread Tow Tapes instead of yarns. By using Spread Tows the crimp is nearly eliminated, substantially improving the mechanical properties of the fabric. A woven material comprising interlacing fibrous Spread Tow Tapes, instead of yarns, also displays a substantially reduced number of interstices / openings. This means that a Spread Tow Fabric presents less accumulation of matrix at the interstices and hence increased fiber volume fraction. Furthermore, in any given area more fibers can be packed in Spread Tow Fabric form than in a yarn fabric enabling reduced laminate thickness. The image on the right best explains the difference between Spread Tow Fabrics and Regular Tow Fabrics.
Klaas Voget (G-4), 4th Overall PWA Wave Tour 2009 and Fanatic’s R&D Manager: “For us it’s simple. Our promise to deliver the best to you forbids us from letting team members pass their knowledge onto anyone but Fanatic R&D. The advantage of accurately comparing prototypes side-by-side guarantees progress. The best part of all is that the world of CAD / CNC's only just beginning.” TOP COAT LIGHT FINISH CARBON KEVLAR-CLOTH WOOD / CARBON REINFORCEMENT PVC-SANDWICH LAYER ON TOP AND BOTTOM OF BOARD GLASS-CLOTH SUPERLIGHT EPS FOAM TEXTREME® CARBON
TeXtreme® Technology
For 2011 in just one FreeWave size (95L), the TeXtreme® FreeWave has an extremely light layup of pvc, wood and TeXtreme® cloths, to ensure one of the most innovative constructions Fanatic has ever produced. The TeXtreme® material is not only an optical eye-catcher, but also has many technical properties which make it superior to standard Carbon cloths. The main advantage is the flat weave, which is stronger, yet lighter as less resin is needed / absorbed. On the deck we use the high quality full Carbon Kevlar material to offer the most efficient construction in terms of light weight with maximum impact resistance. Combined with the polished base and airbrushed rails, the TeXtreme® FreeWave 95 is the talk of the beach.

Custom Wood Sandwich Light Technology
technologies On every 2011 board is a small ‘Fanatic Ocean Minded’ logo – this is to signify Fanatic’s commitment to protecting the environment and researching more environment friendly materials, in all our products. Every detail of our constructions, packaging, printing and accessories is constantly analysed to try and improve our ‘footprint’ on the environment, not as easy task as composite materials are not the most eco-friendly. However plenty of resins, sandwich foams, eva pads and laminates are already being developed with a more green approach in mind,
Fanatic is a leader in testing and further developing these and other materials. Some of our innovations in this field are easier to visualize, like the Pine Wood constructions of our Ray and Hawk lines, or the new Basalt material used on our Limited Edition boards. Others are under the ‘skin’ with new resins, less toxic paints and eva pads, intelligent packaging systems and various cloths / sandwiches all contributing in their own way to a ‘greener’ product line. More details on these innovations will be
released throughout the year on fanatic. com, as the new products are released step by step. Our Fanatic Ocean Minded project is a long term commitment and we are therefore investing into long term use studies, new material developments and partnerships with composite producers, to innovate and lead the way, just as we do with our performance leading products.
Using a lightweight yet robust wood and glass fibre construction gives a very high strength to weight ratio. In combination with the Double PVC / Wood Sandwich, this is an extremely durable lay up, the thick sandwich, wood and glass fibre absorbing high forces, even after the hardest landings! Used on the standard FreeWave models.

Carbon Kevlar Light Technology (Double and Single)
The lightest and most impact resistant Carbon Kevlar, combined with a double PVC /Wood Sandwich and Wood / Carbon Heel Reinforcements, guarantees the most efficient construction in terms of light weight with maximum impact resistance. The Team Editions of NewWave, NewWave Twin and FreeWave benefit from a double sandwich deck with Carbon Kevlar layups, plus Carbon bottom layups. The Skate Team Edition has a single sandwich deck of Carbon Kevlar and a Carbon bottom. All of these models are produced with the Light Finish sanded look, for extra weight saving.
A specific combination of top quality Biax Glass fabrics in combination with PVC layers on deck and bottom provides optimised durability for the standard Skates. The light finish helps to reach an excellent weight to price ratio.

Top quality and high-tech specification Biax Carbon has a perfect weight to stiffness ratio as a result of its very fine weave, plus has fantastic dynamic flex. In combination with PVC Sandwich Technology and Glass reinforcements, it provides a perfect stiffness / flex / weight ratio on the Falcon Slalom line. We used the same basic construction for our Freeride Limited Edition boards, except that on the deck we have a full Carbon Kevlar layup which has a better shock absorbing character than pure carbon, for more comfort, whilst offering a very stiff and light performance, which is needed for these high performance Freeride / Freerace boards (Shark LTD / Hawk LTD / Ray LTD). On the bases of the LTD boards we have the new innovative Basalt cloth, a cloth which is not only technically superior to many other standard cloths, but also environment friendlier in both the creation and re-cycling thereof. All of these models are produced with the light finish sanded look, for extra weight savings, whilst the new polished and airbrushed rails and bases are the ultimate optic for 2011!
A combination of top quality and intelligent layup specifications, Wood Sandwich and Glass / Wood reinforcements, gives the Wood Sandwich Construction extremely competitive weights at value prices. Used for the standard Hawk and Ray models, now also available in the light finish sanded look for the most efficient weight possible.

High resistance composite technology – an optimum weight and durable construction for every-day use. A thick, durable outer skin gives the board hull a high strength, ding and impact resistance. Strategic use of glass reinforcements ensures an adequate stiffness. Used on the standard Shark, as well as on the Viper / Ripper ranges in combination with a user friendly EVA deck.

“The Hawks are fully CAD designed, analysed and shaped on the CNC machine. Using the proven, super-fast Hawk rocker line we’ve updated the 110 and 135 with narrower overall profiles, but wider centre points. Their thinner, tucked-under edges also eliminate the chances of catching a rail during either carving or sliding manoeuvres. The domed decks in the tail and footstrap area are awesome for flatout control.”
