Try these three summer makeup trends to get you glowing as the weather heats up.

By Madeleine O’Connor

With the weather warming up there is A LOT to look forward to; longer days, outdoor dining and (most importantly) getting to try out the new summer makeup trends!

A new season is a chance to revamp your makeup staples and experiment with trends that can add a little spice to your everyday look.

This summer it’s all about pastel eyes, glossy lips and faux freckles. Add these three trends to your makeup routine for a fresh and flirty look.

Pastel Eyes

A makeup trend that is a staple for the summer months is pastel eyeshadow. Opting for pastel tones is a fantastic way of easing yourself into the world of coloured eyeshadow as wearing bright colours on the eyes can sometimes feel intimidating. Pastel tones give the most beautiful wash of pigment to the eyes without feeling over the top.

Lavender or lilac tones are a great place to start. Purple shades are such a flattering tone on all eye colours and skin tones and provide such a modern and chic eye look. It can be paired with a pastel blue eyeliner to add definition to the eye in a soft yet unexpected way.

*ele tip: To get the most true to colour application of pastel eyeshadows we recommend laying down a white eye base first. This gives the eyeshadows not only something to stick to but also an even, blank canvas for the eyeshadow to really pop on.

Faux freckles

Nothing says ‘summer skin’ like a glowy and freckled complexion. It makes the skin look so effortlessly flawless and cool. The great news for us who are not blessed with natural freckles, is we can now fake it!

Take either your eye brow pencil (providing it isn’t too dark for your complexion) or a product created for faux freckle application and dot this across the nose, cheeks and forehead over your finished makeup to create the perfect kissed by the sun look.

*ele tip: Once you have finished applying your faux freckles we recommend taking your foundation brush or sponge that you used to apply your foundation and, with no extra product, lightly bounce the brush/sponge over the areas where you applied the freckles. This helps soften them and makes it look like your natural freckles are peeking through your foundation.

Hydrated, glossy lips

It has been a long time since our lips got some attention with the face masks we have been wearing over the past couple of years but this summer, lips are back and better than ever.

Lockdowns brought us all a deeper appreciation of skincare and it was inevitable that some of our ‘skin is in’ mentality would carry through to our neglected lips. Glossy-balm hybrid lip oils are a great discovery. These hybrid lip oils are infused with lip-loving ingredients that give the most incredible shine to the lips, making them look fuller and more plump. They also help improve your lips’ condition as you’re wearing it. With a soft wash of colour, lip oils are a must-have handbag staple!

*ele tip: For a more defined, longer wearing lip, we recommend you both line and fill in your lips with lipliner before applying your lip oil of choice.

Finally use a setting spray to set your look and you’re done. Pop on a flowy summer dress to compliment your look and head out looking fresh and fabulous.
