ERIK EBBERSTEIN INDUSTRIAL DESIGN PORTFOLIO
ERIK EBBERSTEIN My name is Erik Ebberstein, I am from Sweden and I am currently in the first year of my master education in Industrial Design, at The School of Industrial Design Lund University. Between my bachelor and master I worked as a design trainee/intern for a year, first at Holscher Design and then Skibsted Ideation in Copenhagen. I enjoyed working at both companies a lot and I can share letter of recommendation and references if wished. I always strive to do my best in all my work and I enjoy working both individually and in team. I have got very positive feedback from my previous colleagues regarding my skills within the design process, idea generation and thoroughness of my work. Now I am looking for work during the the summer of 2016 (June, July and August) to gain more experience and create future contacts and connections. Do not hesitate to contact me and I hope you enjoy my portfolio. Best regards / Erik Ebberstein

INTERNSHIP AT SKIBSTED IDEATION My second internship (February - August 2015) was at Skibsted Ideation. Skibsted Ideations main client is the bicycle company Biomega and my projects surrounded products related to that industry. I worked both on projects together with the head designer Johan Hübinette as well as on my own. I worked mostly with Solid Works and hand sketching, but also Photoshop and Illustrator. One new experience for me was to work with projects simultaneously as conducting a conversation with production and engineering departments.

INTERNSHIP AT HOLSCHER DESIGN A six months (July 2014 - January 2015) internship at Holscher Design in Copenhagen. This was my first real experience within an Industrial design firm and I got the chance to be a part of a quite large design team. I participated in both short and long projects and my work was mainly done by hand sketching and Solid Works. The projects was very varying and I worked on projects such as public furnitures and lighting to graphic and exterior design for trains. DESIGN PROJECT - WATER BOTTLE During my last semester of my Bachelor education me and a friend took on the assignment after school hours to work for Kristoffer Cook, the head of a company called Cyclicor. The project brief was to design a concept of a new modern multi function water bottle. This project involved brainstorming meetings, idea generation through sketching, 3d modeling visualization. We also got to experience very interesting and teaching meetings with a patent focused law firm.

PROJECT
HAGLร FS /
Brief. Design an object for outdoors activities. The product should be designed to be in line with the Haglรถfs family. I chose to create a marketing concept where Haglรถf would sponsor the organization Missing People Sweden with a product suited for their search parties and similar activities. 4th semester - spring 2013 Individual project
PROJECT: SEARCH PARTY KIT
MOTIVATION /
BACKGROUND Haglรถfs creates outdoor products for people with an active lifestyle. They value functionality and high quality and aims for the top of their product market. Missing People Sweden is a non-profit organization that help finding people who has been reported missing. They have a vast community and can in a short time assemble a search party which can contain of hundreds of volunteers. My concept is a marketing concept based on a sponsorship where Haglรถfs would support the organization Missing People Sweden. A sponsorship is an investment, Missing People Sweden is greatly appreciated and talked about in social network as well in media. To include Haglรถfs products and their logotype with an organization such as Missing People Sweden would create trust and reach out to an audience of every age and lifestyle.
PROJECT: SEARCH PARTY KIT
IDEATION / BRAINSTORMING AND SKETCHING
INITIAL IDEAS
01 COMMUNICATION One initial idea was to use Haglรถfs knowledge of backpacks and to combine with communication technology in order to enhance the ability for search groups to contact each other.
01 02 MARKING SEARCHED AREA Another issue during search parties is to mark where you have searched. One idea was to use a tape dispenser with biodegradable tape which to be used to signal that an area is searched.

IDEATION / FINAL CONCEPT
DEFINING THE MOST ESSENTIAL NEED
WHATS NEEDED
FINAL CONCEPT
All combined data from the search groups adds up to a huge amount of papers, maps and equipment
The final concept is a Haglรถf product that allows the search leaders to put all their equipment into one package.
The most basic and essential need for Missing People Sweden was a simple way to distribute, handle and keep a clear overview of all equipment and data.
Confusion is minimized with less amount of separate products such as paper with notes and maps. It would also simplify the logistic routines for Missing People Sweden.

PROJECT
REFILL DEO /
Brief. Choose an area of products that is based on a linear system from an environmental point of view, and create a design so this product becomes part of a cyclic system. My project was inspired by the wasteful behavior we have around cosmetic packages, where people are using and throwing away several plastic containers each year. The result is a refillable deodorant that is designed to inspire and encourage people to use and create their own deodorant.
Individual project
PROJECT: REFILL DEO
BACKGROUND /
BACKGROUND AND INSPIRATION
WASTEFUL BEHAVIOR AROUND DEODORANTS / As a start point for this project I was inspired by how much waste we create by using today’s deodorants. They have a short product life and it is difficult for the user to sort them for recycling as they are often made of MAKER MOVEMENT / different materials and difficult to separate. A great source of knowledge and inspiration was the vast sharing of recipes for creating deodorants based on natural ingredients. This is a result of an ongoing discussion about if our common deodorants are harmful to SKEPTICISM TOWARDS NATURAL DEODORANTS / our bodies in the long run. Natural deodorants exist on the market, and they are popular among their specific target group. The issue is that the majority of people have a lot of skepticism toward these products because they look more like a homemade soap rather than a trustworthy and functional deodorant.
PROJECT: REFILL DEO
PROCESS /
NATURAL DEODORANT / DEFINING NEEDS
No toxic substances / Use natural ingredients
No plastics / Using natural materials can communicate that the inside of the product is toxic free
Protective cover / Deodorant is something you bring with you if you are traveling. It is essential that it feels safe to put the product in a bag or suitcase.
No stinky armpits / Deodorant must be functional
PROJECT: REFILL DEO
PROCESS /
PROCESS AND FINAL CONCEPT SKETCHING, BUILDING AND TESTING
FINAL CONCEPT / INSTRUCTIONS OF USAGE
Pour melted deo
Insert the metal piece
Press down
Wait a few hours
Deo is done!
PROJECT: REFILL DEO
FINAL RESULT
DEO CONTAINER AND CASTING FORM COMBINED
Aluminum weight / This part is inserted after pouring in the ingredients. It is used to press down the deodorant casting process and to push out the deodorant when it is hardened.
Deodorant container / Mostly used as a basic container protecting the deodorant, but as well as a casting form for when creating a new deodorant.
Lid / Used to press back deodorant into container after usage and as a base during the casting process.
PROJECT: REFILL DEO
FINAL RESULT
FULLY FUNCTIONAL PROTOTYPE
