The Micro Fight Chassis Mk V is a compact chassis that can be utilised as either a standalone system on a plate carrier, or as the central hub for a chest rig when combined with other Spiritus Systems components. It can be configured for wear in low visibility environments that require minimal printing through clothing with maximum equipment storage. It can also be configured for high visibility operations where a full spectrum of equipment is required. The design features MOLLE on the front and sides to accommodate additional magazine pouches. Tourniquets and other equipment can also be stowed outboard via the use of Spiritus Systems’ ‘Universal Retention Kit’, and a row of anchor points along the top opening is designed to incorporate their ‘Magazine Bungee Retention Kit’ to secure any calibre magazine. The CHASSIS is part of the Micro Fight Chest Rig System. This item does not include shoulder straps, a back strap, magazine inserts, or any other accessories. Additional components are required for proper use. If you are building a stand-alone system, shoulder straps, back strap, and magazine inserts are needed. If mounted to a plate carrier, a magazine insert is needed.

CORE ALL BLACK There are many people who have forecast the demise of the watch, their argument is that since nearly everyone carries a mobile phone that tells them the time, the humble wristwatch is now redundant. Despite this, watch sales are still very healthy and most people we know still wear one. The idea of the mobile phone as timepiece is a bit retrograde in our opinion as it harks back to the era of pocket watches – yes, they do the job – but they are less than convenient.If your preferences or work takes you outdoors a lot the ability to check the time without having to rake through your pockets isn’t just a convenience, it can be a necessity. It’s not just checking the time though, there are watches out there which can provide you with much more relevant information than just time and date. This includes but isn’t limited to tools such as GPS, a compass, or various data readings such as distance travelled, speed and altitude. Exploration has been at the core of Suunto’s business model since 1936, with Finnish orienteer Tuomas Vohlonen endeavouring to create a more accurate compass. This subsequently led to a new method for manufacturing liquid-filled compasses. The Suunto Core is somewhat of an enigma. First manufactured in 2007, the watch has become a mainstay of the outdoors world, with Suunto capitalising on its popularity having released more than thirty different versions of the watch since its inception. However, most of these changes have been design related, with the core functions of the watch remaining identical to the original iteration released in 2007. The Core is a ABC-watch (ABC being an acronym of Altimeter, Barometer and Compass), however it does play host to a number of other features including a depth meter, a digital thermometer and sunrise/sunset timings for over 400 locations around the world. What very few people know though is HSGI come from humble beginnings, and have not always been the tactical gear stalwart they are known to be now. OUR THOUGHTS CONNOR: Magnum was the first boot company I was introduced to when starting playing airsoft, and if I'm honest, it's been a long time since I've taken a look at a Magnum product. Not because my experience was bad or anything, but purely because it never really looked like Magnum had advanced their product range much from when I first started playing airsoft some 15 years ago. That has changed with the Ultima. Not only are they insanely comfortable, they fit brilliantly, reducing the chance of blistering. They're lightweight as well, and at times leave you feeling like you're wearing a pair of sneakers instead of a pair of boots. While the recyclable materials thing doesn't really bother me too much, its definitely good to see companies looking to reduce their carbon footprint, and provided the boots' performance isn't hindered with this, then I'm more than happy to support Magnum's efforts in the use of recyclable materials. All in all, I'm looking forward to spending more time with the Ultima, but through Storms Dudley, Eunis and Franklin, they've definitely came in clutch! NICK: Spending time in the Police Force, Magnum is a name I’m more than familiar with. That said, I echo Connor’s sentiment in the fact that up until now, Magnum never really seemed to look to advance. In reality, the saying “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it” runs true here, but with boot companies around Magnum really making an effort to reduce weight and include new design features, Magnum soon become a brand I wasn’t really interested in. However, forget what I’ve just said, because the Ultima has most certainly propelled Magnum into a position of power once more. The Ultima, at least at this point, ticks all the boxes I could want from a pair of boots -- they’re ridiculously comfortable, they’re waterproof while breathable and they have so far held up to the little bit of punishment I’ve been able to throw at them. How they hold up over an extended period of test will be interesting, and again, I echo Connor’s sentiment in regard to the materials used -- if it doesn’t effect the performance, then I’m all for it! The Ultima is now the go to boot for me when I need something lightweight, replacing my LOWA’s for now. Visually, they’re not quite as nice as the LOWA GTX, but performance wise they certainly seem to measure up to what is a brilliant mid boot. If the Ultima can keep up these levels of performance, there really is no reason for them not to become a huge favourite in the industry!

MORE THAN 45 YEARS AGO, NASA WAS INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING A SOLAR SIMULATOR FOR THE SPACE PROGRAM TO SIMULATE SUNLIGHT OUTSIDE THE FILTERING OF THE ATMOSPHERE. A GROUP OF ENGINEERS SET UP A LABORATORY IN FAIRFIELD, NJ, AND DESIGNED A PRODUCT THAT GENERATED 25 MILLION CANDLEPOWER OF LIGHT. THE TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPED DURING THIS RESEARCH WAS SUBSEQUENTLY USED TO DESIGN AND DEVELOP A HANDHELD UNIT THAT PRODUCED ONE MILLION CANDLEPOWER AND THAT WAS SOLD TO THE MILITARY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT MARKET SECTORS.

Upon completion of the NASA project and perfection of the miniaturized one million candlepower design, a private investor from the Philadelphia area moved the company to King of Prussia, PA and, in 1973, created the company that today is known as Streamlight, Inc. The TLR RM 1 includes one (1) 3 volt CR123A lithium battery, measures 3.2 inches in length and weighs 2.74 ounces. US ARMY STRYKERS UPGRADED WITH MODERN WEAPON SYSTEMS THE WARHORSE BRIGADE AT FORT CARSON, COLORADO BEGAN FIELDING AND TRAINING ON THE COMMON REMOTELY OPERATED WEAPON STATION AND THE COMMON REMOTELY OPERATED WEAPON STATION-JAVELIN ON FEB. 7, 2022. THE FIELDING OF THE NEW SYSTEM, WHICH REPLACES THE REMOTE WEAPON STATION, IS PART OF A LARGER EFFORT TO GIVE STRYKERS MORE LETHAL CAPABILITIES. The eight-wheeled Stryker combat vehicle is the U.S. Army’s Stryker Brigade Combat Team primary combat and combat support platform and the focal point of this ongoing phase of Army Transformation. Significantly lighter and more transportable than existing tanks and armored vehicles, the Stryker fulfills an immediate requirement to provide Combatant Commanders with a strategically deployable (C-17/C-5) and operationally deployable (C-130) brigade capable of rapid movement anywhere on the globe in a combat ready configuration.

Stryker vehicles have robust armor protection, can sustain speeds of 60 miles-perhour, have parts commonality and selfrecovery abilities and also have a central tire inflation system. Prior to the upgrade, the Infantry Carrier Vehicle carries a nine-man infantry squad and a crew of two and has a Remote Weapon Station with an M2 .50 caliber machine gun or MK-19, 40mm grenade launcher. Additionally, and just as important, the Stryker family of vehicles stresses performance and commonality that reduces the logistics footprint and minimise sustainment costs. The same engine used in the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) powers the Stryker. The Stryker can reach speeds in excess of 60 mph with a range exceeding 300 miles on 53 gallons of fuel. The Stryker is designed to enable the SBCT to maneuver more easily in close and urban terrain, while providing protection in open terrain. Performance highlights include C-130 transportability; internetted C4ISR capability; integral all around armor protection from 14.5mm projectiles and 152mm artillery airburst protection (upgradeable to Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) protection with addon armor); self-deployment and self-recovery capability; reduced vehicle acoustic signature; ability

to carry a nine-man infantry or engineer squad; and bunker and wall breaching capability. These performance highlights provide a force that will move rapidly as a cohesive combined arms combat team, a capability not currently in the Army inventory. These attributes make the Stryker the Army’s first true system-of-systems and enable the SBCT’s unique organic combined arms capability.

The CROWS and CROWS-J system also allows for Soldiers to engage threats from inside the Stryker, providing a more lethal approach to eliminating threats from a distance. “It improves crew safety and survivability,” said Sgt. Joshua Carroll, infantryman with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2SBCT, 4th Inf. Div. “We can engage farther than a dismounted javelin.” The systems include improved visual capabilities, increasing the Stryker’s lethality. “Including both optics and control of the primary vehicular weapon system, they allow operators to engage targets from inside the vehicle at extreme distance with an increased resolution in the camera feed,” Kiser said.
THE WARHORSE BRIGADE BEGAN ITS TRANSITION FROM A LIGHT INFANTRY BRIGADE TO A STRYKER BRIGADE IN THE SUMMER OF 2020 AND BECAME FULLY MISSION CAPABLE AS A STRYKER BRIGADE IN LATE 2021. THESE LATEST UPGRADES TO THE BRIGADE’S FLEET MAKE IT THE MOST MODERNIZED IN THE U.S. ARMY. “It makes us the most lethal Stryker brigade in the Army,” Carroll said.

RHEINMETALL HX 8X8 IN COOPERATION WITH THE SLOVAK COMPANY CSM INDUSTRY, RHEINMETALL MAN MILITARY VEHICLES (RMMV) HAS UNVEILED A NEW HIGH-MOBILITY MULTIPURPOSE EXCAVATOR VEHICLE BASED ON THE HX 8×8. THE NEW VARIANT DERIVES FROM RMMV’S TRIED-AND-TESTED FAMILY OF LOGISTIC VEHICLES, WHICH ARE IN SERVICE WORLDWIDE. IT CARRIES AN UDS 214 EXCAVATOR BUILD-ON, A PROVEN SYSTEM MADE BY THE CRANE AND EXCAVATOR MAKER CSM BASED IN TISOVEC, SLOVAKIA. THE HX 8×8 EXCAVATOR IS SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR COMBAT ENGINEER OPERATIONS AND DISASTER RELIEF MISSIONS. Able to pivot 360 degrees, the build-on features an extendable telescopic arm that attains a length of up 14.60 metres. It can use various tools: besides the excavator shovel, a hook or hydraulic drum cutter are possible. This universally deployable device can lift loads of up to 7.5 tons and can thus serve as an auxiliary crane. If desired, the excavator operator’s cab can be protected in accordance with common STANAG levels and fitted with a ventilation system.

Like RMMV’s entire HX family, the HX 8×8 is a military off-the-shelf vehicle designed to withstand the most gruelling military conditions, assuring excellent mobility even in the toughest terrain. When ready to operate, the basic version of the vehicle weighs 28 tons. Its MAN D2676 diesel engine generates an output of 387 kW or 540 hp, giving the HX 8×8 a top speed of 90 km/h. The vehicle can handle inclines of 60 percent and wade through water up to 1.5 metres deep. If desired, the HX 8×8 can be equipped with Rheinmetall’s protected Integrated Armoured Cabin (IAC) or prepared for its optional use. The vehicle can also be fitted with a remotely operated weapon station for self-defence. Belonging to the HX family – of which more than 16,000 vehicles are now in service worldwide – offers advantages with respect to maintenance, repairs and training. Numerous NATO nations already own HX family trucks, resulting in synergy effects particularly during multinational operations. The HX 8×8 Excavator is another example of Rheinmetall cooperation with European and other international partners. Nor is this limited to technical teamwork. By cooperating with Rheinmetall, CSM stands to benefit from access to new export markets. Moreover, the Düsseldorf-based technology enterprise offers Slovakia additional options for cooperating with local industry. One possibility would be the production of infantry fighting vehicles in the NATO country.

RATION HEATING KIT
The BCB Ration Heating Kit is the result of a significant investment, with the British based manufacturer looking to design a heating kit capable of delivering the needs of both military and humanitarian missions. Designed to make use of BCB’s proprietary eco-friendly FireDragon, the BCB Ration Heating Kit utilises 7g fuel capsules which are manufactured in an aluminium container, allowing them to double up as a cooker by simply peeling the lid off and lighting the eco-friendly fuel. The fuel is capable of heating 300ml of water from 10-degrees centigrade to 55-degrees centigrade in a matter of minutes – under five to be precise. The capsules are supplied with a folding stove, which when coupled with the FireDragon containers, gives the user a perfectly working stove. The stove itself is equipped with adjustable cup support wings and can withstand multiple folds and unfolds, making it perfect for multiple uses.

FIREDRAGON FUEL
With a large reliance on hexamine fuel cells for cooking whilst in the field, BCB International looked to address the issues surrounding hexamine, specifically the dangers it presents to the health of soldiers. Highlighting the issues with hexamine, which include the emission of harmful gases such as nitrogen oxide and hydrogen cyanide when burnt, BCB begun work on a biofuel that eliminated any potential risk to soldiers. Working with Cardiff University, BCB created FireDragon; a new all-weather solid flammable biofuel, made from ethanol sourced from the United Kingdom. BCB’s FireDragon is superior to hexamine cooking solutions is every way imaginable. With a boil time of 5 minutes and a burning period of 15 minutes, it is one of the most efficient heat sources for cooking on the market. It is completely odourless, making it the perfect product for cooking while on operational duty and it also has the ability to burn while wet which allows the modern warfighter to replenish his nutrient stores regardless of the climate he or she is operating in. On top of the above, FireDragon is easy to light, lightweight, environmentally friendly, easy to store, safe to be packed with food and can also be used as hand sanitiser. All in all the Fire Dragon Fuel does nothing but impress, with BCB International showcasing once more that innovation is at the forefront of their designs.
