Welcome Everyone! Again, it’s my pleasure to invite all of you to our annual bull sale. It’s hard to believe another year has passed. The old saying of “the older you get the faster it goes” sure is correct. With all the craziness going on in the world, it makes us appreciate all the blessings we have especially the privilege of living in the Midwest. We were fortunate to have had a good growing season, plenty of hay and pasture so cattle have done well. Again, we say thanks for your loyalty and trust in our seedstock operation. We are thrilled to be working with so many good people and appreciate each and everyone. We are extremely pleased with the bull offering this year’s sale. We will be offering some new genetics that we think you will have alot of appreciation for. We continue to focus on reducing birth weights while maintaining and even increase weaning weights at the same time improving the maternal side. The breed has worked very hard at improving the terminal genetics of the breed and carcass results are proving this to be true. The genetic pool we have to choose from continues to grow and I believe our breed is truly headed in the right direction. We encourage you to come evaluate these bulls physically, then take the time to study their EPDs, only you know the genetic needs of your operation. If you would like to visit about any of these bulls, we encourage you to call Landon or myself. I love developing these bulls and am always looking for ways to improve the way they are handled. Like I have said before, the developing process can have lasting effects on the longevity of a bull. As always, the ration consists of high quality rough with the proper protein, energy and minerals. We will continue to offer to bring the bulls back to the farm to finish developing them, we will keep them until May 1st at no charge. Cason’s Mr. Declaration is a solid red purebred that maybe one of the best red bulls I have ever raised. He is as deep and soggy as any bull in the sale. He is a Declaration son out of a Beef King daughter. He is no accident I bred his dam to Declaration banking on this calf being red, his maternal grandam Cason’s Miss Amber was one of the best red cows I have raised. This 28-cow family goes back to my original cow herd in the late 70’s.

Mr. Gold Standard is a little larger framed F-1 SimAngus™ bull, being out of a first calf heifer. He qualifies as a heifer bull you sure wouldn’t know it. He is one the biggest fall bulls. This an attractive black white faced bull that is long sided. His sire, GCC Gold Standard, is a really good purebred Angus sired by GCC Total Recall, one of best female makers in the Angus breed.

J351 and J95B are Proclamation sons that I believe are a couple the sales highlights. Both weaned off an average of 900 pounds, and currently weighing over 1400 pounds. These bulls have lived up to their genetic profile. This pair of black white faced bulls would improve weaning and yearling weights in any commercial cow calf operation. Their EPDs are almost identical very strong on the maternal side, both have API of 147 and 149 well above breed average.

Mr. Timber Line was one of the top weaning weight bulls this year (adj ww 912 lbs.) sired by Hooks Eagle 6E, and dam sired by Grandmaster. The Eagle calves have been very impressive, they come easy and grow well. Eagle has made a huge impact on the breed, improving genetics from maternal side to terminal cattle. This powerhouse bull weighed 1350 pounds in early January.

Bull Buyer’s Guide Explanation of How to Utilize API and TI Indexes First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described to the left, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). Definitions of Terms Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score.
