2022 Minnesota State Sale Catalog

Page 1

From Your Association President:

It has been a busy fall and there is still a lot of work and harvest left, which makes it hard to believe that the 2022 MN State Simmental sale is less than a month away. I am looking forward to seeing many of the members during our upcoming banquet and sale. We had a lot of positive feedback about our new sale date last year and we are excited to move to a new venue for our banquet this year. Treasure Island definitely had its perks, but we are looking forward to less travel time between the sale facility and banquet. Once again, our state’s breeders have brought you some of the finest Simmental and Sim-Angus genetics out there. We are very thankful for the support of our consignors. It takes a lot of planning and hard work to prepare their animals for the sale and it does not go unnoticed! I hope that all of you will be able to attend our sale in person so you can see the high-quality cattle we have to offer for yourselves. If you are not able to attend, make sure to join live on liveauctions.tv. This is a great time to be involved in the cattle industry and the State Sale is a great opportunity to continue advance your herds genetics.

I also welcome everyone to join us for our Annual Banquet on Saturday, November 19th at 5:30 PM for social hour and 6:30 PM for our dinner. Following dinner, we will celebrate the past year with our awards ceremony and then hold our Semen auction and Junior Association’s fundraising auction. You can still donate to the auction, and proceeds go to a great cause, our Juniors! We also hope that you will join us for the membership meeting on Saturday, at 1 PM in the Haas Livestock Sales facility. It is a great opportunity for all breeders and MSA members to come back together and catch up, as well as voice any concerns or comments to the board.

Thank You to our Queen and Princess

Thank you to Queen Kenzie Kuyney & Jazlynn Hilbrands for serving as the 2022 MSA Queen and Princess

From Your Junior President:

Hi everyone!

My name is Jazlynn Hilbrands, and I am currently serving as your Minnesota Junior Simmental Association President! I have had a great time serving as President this past year and had the wonderful opportunity of representing our association at many shows this summer, such as the MN Simmental Field Day in Pipestone, MN; Simmental Junior Nationals in Madison, WI; Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Beef Expo. I have had a wonderful time getting to know the junior members and helping to plan fun and educational activities for them throughout the summer. We held an educational event at the MN Simmental Field Day to help prepare our members for Junior Nationals, we also had meals for everyone at Junior Nationals which was a great way to bring everyone together and I had so much fun!

This summer I had the honor of being elected as a North Central Region Trustee on the American Junior Simmental Association board. This opportunity and position I have been rewarded is something that would not have been possible without my time spent and leadership roles held in the Minnesota Junior Simmental Association. I would not be where I am today without the people I have met, skills I have developed, friendships I have made, and lessons I have learned while being a part of the MJSA.

I am currently a freshman at South Dakota State University where I am majoring in Animal Science with an Industry Relations specialization, and minoring in Agribusiness Marketing. I am thankful for my time as MJSA President, in helping me to become a better team member and leader as I work towards my future career.

I would also like to extend a huge thank you to our Junior Advisors, Marilee and Daryl Peterson, and Matt and Adrienne Hilbrands. The opportunities and success of our Junior Board would not be possible without your hard work and dedication to our youth. I would also like to thank all of the junior members for being so passionate about this association and creating an environment filled with generosity and motivation towards others. You guys are what truly makes this association feel like one big family!

Lastly, my advice to all members is this: get involved in any way you can, even the smallest task may teach you the biggest lessons; get to know the other members, you will develop more connections, friendships, and memories than you could ever imagine; and finally, never let fear or doubt stop you from accomplishing your dreams and goals, you are capable of achieving whatever it is you put your mind to, with such encouraging people by your side and the drive and ambition to never give up on what you set your mind to.

MJSA Donation!

Thank you all for such an incredible year! Jazlynn Hilbrands, MJSA President

The Minnesota Simmental Association is excited to sponsor the MSA Futurity to promote Simmental sales within the state of Minnesota and to strengthen the relationship between breeders and juniors.

Animals purchased at any of the sanctioned sales will be eligible to show at the MSA Summer Splash Field Day that is held each year in Pipestone MN, the first Saturday in June. There is a separate division for these animals during the show and a great way to highlight the kids that purchased animals in these sales.

HOW TO ENTER:

• Minnesota Simmental sales or breeders pay a $200 sanctioning fee (open to in-person, online and private treaty sales DUE STATE FAIR OPEN CLASS WEEKEND to MSA Treasurer Beth Andersland).

• Individual animals purchased by youth can be nominated for $10 at the time of purchase (nominations are due May 31, 2023 to Beth Andersland and are good for one show season).

• Youth do not have to be from Minnesota to purchase an animal at a sanctioned sale and participate in the Futurity Show.

SHOW RULES:

• All animals must be purchased through a Minnesota sale (either in person/live, online or private treaty) that has paid the sale futurity fee aka “sanctioned”.

• Either the buyer or seller are allowed to pay the $10 nomination fee for an animal and the nomination must be made at the time of purchase.

• Junior exhibitors wishing to exhibit their futurity animal in the junior show at Field Day will pay a $25 entry and comply with the rules for that show.

• Heifers will be shown by age and must have been born between September 1st (fall yearling) and December 31st (fall calf).

• Market animals will be shown by weight, must be 1/2 (50%) blood or higher Simmental and must be born after January 1st of the previous year (yearling).

• All animals must be registered with the American Simmental Association. No pending or reported papers (# in parenthesis) accepted.

• Foundation heifers must be registered 1/2 – 3/4 blood Simmental.

• High percent heifers must be registered purebred (7/8 or higher).

• Steers, bulls and cow/calves will be shown together in their respective divisions.

• Payback will be pro-rated per class from futurity nomination fees and awards will be given for Champion & Reserve in their respective Divisions.

For the 49th Annual Sale, we wanted to bring some bred heifers from the heart of our herd. These heifers represent some of the bloodlines that we have built our herd on and around. They have not been babied and were ready to go to work for us, but instead we offer them up for everyone. We are proud of these females and believe they could make their mark on any herd they go into. These heifers were exposed to Frankes Unified; our United son out of our Kori donor who our other consignments are out of. Exposed from June 15th to September 15. Watch Ebersale.com for updated information and videos on these females.

An own daughter of the famous Phyllis 423 cow, who has now surpassed over 2 million in sales, Girl Talk, more affectionately known around our place as Beluga, is so unique in her phenotype. She’s big footed, big bellied, big hipped, long fronted and ties in so high out of her shoulder. Maternal sibs have had a ton of success in the show ring and I would have to write paragraphs to cover

all but to name just a couple they have included 3rd Overall Heifer at the 2019 Simmental Jr. Nationals and 5th Overall Heifer at the 2018 Angus Jr. Nationals. If the popularity and success of her family line is any indication of her production power, we’re pretty excited about what this one has to offer! Combine her uniqueness with the raw power and superior phenotype and this is one mating that really gets us excited! Guaranteeing one (1) 60 day pregnancy if implanted by a certified embryologist.

An incredibly stout featured individual, K076 herself is a donor cow in the making. Milk did this body good, the Sweet Martha’s cookies paired well here, powdered sugar donuts are next. Like these sweet treats there isn’t much this heifer does wrong. We made a pile of them last year and they are all identical in their build, body shape and attitude. A female you cannot go wrong with. We pictured and videoed this heifer with the Secret Simmental females and she has improved since then and honestly, she would’ve been a standout in that group. Out of our now deceased, Rhythm donor who was Champion Purebred Simmental at the Minnesota State Fair, this will be one of the last chance opportunities to own in on this cow family.

of 21, we knew she would be living in the donor pen. The first group of GTS baby girls hit the ground running this spring! They are equipped with some extra punch that also balances their maternal look, impecable feet and legs, and superb personalities. The grandam behind Rich Girl never misses (HS Stop N Stare U118L) and I’m excited to watch this younger female develop. Have a blast with her next summer in Des Moines but expect her to raise a great one when she is a brood cow. Already halter broke and with show experience, Ginger is that May calf, perfect for the little showman in your family. Strong topped, wide pinned, big footed and stout, purebreds like this are the kind to keep

in the cow business. Ginger has that long, level hip needed to produce. And we have to mention her pedigree: her dam comes from a tried and true herd - Andersland Simmentals. Taking after her sire, she is growthy, ranking in the top 15% for WW and YW, yet boasts an API of 146.7. Add a little spice to your life with this ginger colored beauty!
