WELCOME TO OUR 6TH ANNUAL GENETIC ADVANTAGE SALE!

Hello! We would like to welcome you back to the 6th installment of our Genetic Advantage Sale. We hope this greeting finds you and your families well.

As you find your way through the catalog, you will see a lot of familiar names and pictures as we are continuing to expand our ET program and the use of some of our leading donors in both the bull and bred heifer divisions. Cows like You’re Right, Blown Away, Contagious C512 and Rhythm E748 that we hope are really starting to become household names at this point as they have proved to be consistent and elite year after year and bulls such as W/C 4254F that has really written our story for us the last 3 years. You will also see some new names such as W/C Intuition which was our calving ease selection at Werning Cattle Company this past year. He is a Night Watch son that we are tremendously excited to get the first calf crop out of.

This year’s offering of bulls is as strong as we have offered to date. We are able to bring you many flush mate brothers as well as larger sire groups than in the past. We are excited to be able to show case this year’s offering and believe in making these bulls phenotypically as good as we can while still being able to offer a genetic edge with genomic values to make these bulls more predictable as you invest in our program.

The cattle will be on display all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the coffee will be on! BULL BUYERS AGREEMENT

Reck Bros. will keep your bulls free of charge until April 1st. At that time, we will begin delivering bulls free of charge within 100 miles of the farm. If the distance is further than 100 miles, we will accommodate the best we can. We encourage buyers to keep their bulls at the farm until time of delivery so we can get them into breeding condition with all vaccinations and a breeding soundness examination.

We stand behind these bulls and their ability to perform 100% and we will guarantee them that way. If your bull becomes unable to service cows due to a structural issue, please contact us and we will resolve the issue to the best of our ability. We strongly encourage that you take insurance out on your investment which will be available on sale day. If your bull becomes unable to breed as the result of an injury (broken tool, lame foot, etc) related to fighting with other bulls, pasture conditions, mother nature, etc., we will do our best to provide you with a bull to ensure your cows get serviced but we will not guarantee financial compensation, sale credit, or a replacement bull for any of the above listed issues.

FEMALE BUYERS AGREEMENT

Reck Brothers are excited about the females that sell in this sale. Therefore, we will reserve the right to one successful flush on all females unless noted differently (a successful flush is 6 or more transferable embryos). This does not mean we are wanting to obtain a flush right away. We feel these females need to calve, become cows and see how they develop and raise a calf first. Then, let’s look at the possibility of the future in that individual.

The Ruby Rhythm cow family has made big waves here at Reck Brothers as well as for our partners, Lashmetts and Weis Cattle. The quick success of Rhythm E748, who sold through this very sale, alone is enough to solidify this cow family’s potential. I am convinced that these Insight half blood daughters have as much capability as the E748 herself. This is your chance to get in on proven genetics that has already generated well over the $100,000 mark.

She is out of a full sister to RBS Yours Truly –the mother to a 4254F daughter that just commanded $29,500 as a fall born on Weis Cattle’s 2022 spring sale. Proof is in the blood for J113. Don’t miss your opportunity to tie into one of the best in the offering –she checks all the boxes.

Every year, there is a heifer or two that I contemplate if they should go into the sale or be retained in our herd. This year, J117 was that female for me. You’re Right isn’t a spring chick anymore and this Turnpike daughter is one I feel could possibly take her place and hopefully follow in her mother’s footsteps. I love the extra body shape that Turnpike added to the look and presence that You’re Right stamps her calves with. If you’re serious about making good cattle then J117 is one to highly consider adding to your program. With the bull offering in this year’s lineup out of You’re Right, it is evident this female will product herd bulls as well as highly sought after, attractive females.

Here is another bred that has been a favorite since she was a baby. The center portion of her rib cage and true shape and dimension she possesses has always impressed me. She comes in a moderate package but has the extra body and punch that I desire in breeding cattle.

sampled a few different sires this year, especially on our heifers, and seeing the results we already plan to use State of War a lot heavier next year. K988 is a favorite among the calving ease bulls and it is mainly because he doesn’t have the “calving ease look” that often comes with the EPD. He has a lot of true muscle and power from nose to tail. I think this bull will have a lot of friends.

Explanation of How to Utilize API and TI Indexes

First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described to the left, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more information, visit www.simmental.org

Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels.

Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat.

Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight.

Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.

Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight.

Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.

Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score.

Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.

Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye.

Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak.

Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age.

Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario.

Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.

A bull who will add 30 pounds to the weaning weight of each of his calves mated to 25 cows per year for 4 years and you sell the calves for $1.50 per pound: 30 X 25 = 750 X 4 = 3000 X 1.50 = $4,500

This bull is worth $4,500 more than the average bull who will keep your weaning weights the same. Take this formula and put your own figures in and see what you can afford to pay.
