Welcome...

Performance, Pedigree, Power Bull Sale H Saturday, March 1, 2014 H 12:00 Noon Lamoni, IA

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 5th Annual Performance, Pedigree, Power Bull Sale. New records are still being written daily in the cattle industry. Prices are at an all-time high and cattle inventories are at an alltime low. It is truly and exciting time to be involved in the beef industry! We feel that this set of bulls is the best that we have offered for sale to date. Our cowherd is run like any commercial cowherd. With the high feed costs that we are faced with, we demand that our cows be efficient and are able to convert forage into pounds. With drought that has impacted everyone these past couple years, efficient, sensibly frame sized cattle have proved their economic value now more than ever. We realize there are many bull sales as to which you can find a bull and we thank you for your consideration. We want to emphasize the fact that when you buy one of our bulls, you are not just buying a bull, but buying into a program that is committed to providing you the best

product available anywhere. Every year we have people come through that have been to other sales and tell us that our bulls are as good or better than anywhere they have been. All of the bulls have been ultrasounded and that data is available. They have also been fertility tested and will be ready to go to work. We provided you with this information to be let our bulls be as transparent as possible. We want you to be informed as you can be about your new purchase. I have always said that if breeders are not providing you with this data, they are trying to hide something. Again this year, our bulls were developed on Purina’s Impact Grower. This was an easy decision for us due to all of the positive feedback from the past bull sales. We had many reports how impressed buyers were that their bulls didn’t melt after turnout and they stayed good on their feet and legs. Our bulls have also been BVD-PI tested negative. New to the sale offering this year are a handful of select Angus bulls. We think

Welcome Fellow Cattlemen and Cattlewomen! these bulls complement our Simmentals very well as they are stout made, easy doing, efficient cattle that are sound and still have a good look to them. If you are looking for a stout made, traditionally built Angus bull, take a look at these. There is no better time than now to invest in top genetics for your herd. Extra pounds at the livestock markets are returning big dividends, and we are confident we have the bulls to add those pounds. Looking forward, replacement heifer values are off the charts, and as you look through the offering, we believe we have several great maternal sires available as well. We also invite you to come see the bulls on the side of their dams in the summer, which is where we feel they are the most impressive, and you get to see the factory that stands behind them. Please feel free to call us with any questions regarding the sale offering. Thanks for your interest, Nate Ruby

This pair of bulls could pass as full brothers, but they are not. They are bred similarly on the bottom side however, so I guess that explains a lot of it. One is out of a direct Meyer 734 daughter and the other is a Macho daughter. These boys are absolute meat wagons. They are huge topped, big middled, big footed, big butted bulls that will sire steers that will weigh like lead and sire replacement heifers that will grace your pastures for years to come. 316A is a full brother to a $9,250 heifer calf that sold to Scott Hansen of Adel, IA, in the 2012 Livin’ the Dream Sale. 315A is also our high IMF bull, ratioing 159, so if you sell your cattle on a quality grid, take a hard look here. Both are Homo Black by pedigree.

Here is another member of the Wide Open family tree. If you can appreciate some line breeding in your cow herd, than take a good look here. He is sired by Wide Open and his dam is an In Dew Time out of L27, who is Wide Opens grandam. So this bull is double bred back to the L27 cow, and that is absolutely a good thing. L27 is the foundation of the Miss Cleo cow family that has been so good to us here. The descendants of this cow are all great uddered, sound footed cows that are easy doing and fertile. We have retained about every female that comes out of this line for those reasons. Here is a great chance to get two shots of that cow family in one bull. Its like killing two birds with one stone! I am going to sound biased, but the Wide Opens are flat good cattle. They come with moderate birth weights, grow well through the summer and absolutely turned it on since then. They are sound, easy keeping and most importantly, are extremely stout made. These full brothers are some of the stoutest bulls in the whole offering. Their dam comes from the famed Rhythm line and has done a great job for us producing females as well as bulls. Take your pick here, you can’t go wrong with either one, they are both high quality and will add muscle and pounds which means value to your calf crop.

We always keep a couple bulls back every year, and this year it was these two full brothers. They are Ringleaders out of our U857 donor. We used Z209 to clean up some cows and are excited to see what the calves look like. These two year old bulls obviously have some age to them and will be ready to go cover some cows. They both performed well as yearlings and will be great herd sires. If you are looking for more than one bull, here is a great chance to get flush mate brothers to kick out on your cows.

We have had great success with the SAV Angus bulls on our cows. If you remember two years ago, we sold three Final Answer sons that were in great demand. I can honestly say, that I like these Incentive sired SimAngus™ bulls even better. They are easy calving, high growth, big spread cattle that have muscle and eye appeal and good carcass traits. It is hard to find a fault in them. This bull is unassisted out of a first calf In Dew Time x K18 heifer. We have sold several high dollar sisters to her in the past and she is doing a great job. You can breed him to your heifers or cows, it is up to you, but I know you will like the calves. He is a member of our class winning SimAngus bulls in Denver this year.

He was small at birth with an acceptable weaning weight and then exploded into a big yearling weight. He scanned with lots of IMF and once again, I think he would sire cattle that work great on a quality grid setting. We bought his dam with this bull in utero and there was some confusion on calving dates in the catalog so this bull was born on the stalk field while we were gone to Denver. He must have been a ball of fire to get up and get going because it was obviously cold when he was born as Jack Frost got a lot of his ears. They have that easy keeping high performance look to them. The A334 bull is really unique as he weaned off over 700#, and just missed the 1400# yearling mark by a few pounds. His dam is a hard working Lucky Break daughter that has been around a long time because she does a great job. Another high quality SimAngus™ bull here.

A few years back, I couldn’t find a purebred Simmental I liked and I came across this bull. I bought him and used him for a couple years on our purebred cows and he really made some nice halfbloods. The reason I am selling him is we don’t have a use for him anymore as we are running several Angus cows in our pastures and I do not want to make purebred Angus cattle out of our cleanup bulls. I did not use him this past year, but kept him in case I needed him. He is sired by Upward, the number 1 registration sire in the Angus breed. He is a great breeder and always caught up our later cows. He doesn’t act like an Angus bull and is quiet and easy going. This bull sired a $5,200 bred heifer and a $4,000 open heifer this past fall in our female sale. He is in his prime and is ready to cover a bunch of cows. I hate to see him go, but somebody might as well put him to good use, you will like his calves, they flat out grow!
