THE BELIEF MAGAZINE

What is the true meaning of New Years? Is it about making resolutions that we know we cannot keep? It is about talking a good game without execution? Or is it aspiring to achieve our goals but don't take the initiative to follow through with them? Every year, I hear people stating what they are going to do in the new year but they never have the will power to actually make it happen. In 2016, we are now in a brand new year that is awaiting us with many opportunities to take on. So in 2016, my challenge to you is to STOP MAKING EXCUSES BUT START MAKING MOVES. We will always find a reason or an excuse to stop us from executing the purpose that has been given to each of us. But in 2016, DON'T LET NOTHING OR NO ONE stop you from reaching your destiny. We all have greatness that dwells inside of us but it is up to us to tap into our greatness. For now my question is to you, "Are you going to star making moves? Or continue to make excuses?"

Love Ebony

SHEILA DANCHO 9 STEPS IN CONQUERING PROCRASINATION

STEP 3 DESIGNATE TIME

I’ve actually been procrastinating writing this Schedule a specific time in your calendar for at least a year. That’s the thing about procrastinated tasks—they don’t go away until to work on this task—and remember, you take action and get them done! I’m going to keep it SHORT. Find a 1-hour period in give you my tips on how to take better control which to accomplish this task (or get started on it). For example, set aside the of your time and tasks.

STEP 7: ASK FOR HELP

If you are really stuck, don’t be too proud to ask for help from a friend, business partner, or team leader. You may even want to hire a coach or a technical expert. For example, if you hour from 7 to 8 on Tuesday night to have been avoiding building your There are two kinds of procrastination make prospecting calls. I call this a power website, hire a web developer to build —deliberate and productive. Deliberate hour, because you’ll be surprised at how your website for you. If you’ve been procrastination is when you make a conscious much you can actually accomplish in just waiting to create a blog because you decision to put it off—“I’m going to wait until an hour. Get the support of your family or don’t have the time to learn how to use tomorrow.” Unfortunately, tomorrow never co-workers to not disturb you during this WordPress, hire someone to teach you comes in most cases. This article was in the time. or to do it for you. Tomorrow Land for a year!!!

STEP 4: READY, FIRE & AIM

Productive procrastination is much sneakier. You are so busy doing mundane tasks that you don’t get around to those tasks that will bring you more results—for example, throwing another load of laundry in the washing machine instead of making those 5 prospecting calls that you know are critical to moving you forward in your business. At the end of the day, you feel a sense of accomplishment about all the things you did, but you did not complete the necessary tasks to accomplish your important business goals. I call this “Busy being BROKE”. Why do people procrastinate? There are many reasons, but FEAR is the generally the root cause. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of rejection, fear of not being worthy—fear stops most people in their tracks and steals their dreams. If this has happened to you, here are my 9 steps to conquering procrastination.

Don’t worry about perfection. Just get started, learn from the experience and get better as you continue. For example, my first prospecting call was a complete disaster. I called my accountant. I had a head cold, low energy and I read from a script. He gave me a polite “NO! I am not interested.” After I hung up the phone I thought, “Well, that didn’t go well, but I can only get better! What can I learn from this experience?” The next call was much better and I became better and better with every call I made. Now I am a master prospector.

STEP 5: VISUALIZE THE WORST CASE SCENARIO

If fear is holding you back, ask yourself, “What is the worst thing that could happen if I did this today?” Picture the STEP 1: IDENTIFY TASK worst possible thing that could happen, Make a list of all the tasks you need to do to and accept that that may happen. Most achieve yours goals for this year (this may of the time, the worst case scenario be a really REALLY long list). Next, identify would really only be a temporary which activities you have been putting off setback that you could learn from in —for example, I might be avoiding order to get better. prospecting calls. Then ask yourself, “Why have I been procrastinating starting and/or STEP 6: VISUALIZE THE PERFECT OUTCOME completing these activities? What fear is stopping me?” Vividly imagine the perfect outcome of

STEP 2 SELECT THE MOST IMPORTANT TASK Look at your procrastination list and pick the one task that will be most important in accomplishing your goals this year. Commit to getting started on it. Put the energy you’ve been directing toward excuses into the task you’ve been avoiding. Action eliminates anxiety. I love the Nike slogan “JUST DO IT.”

the task—what would be the best possible results of this task being accomplished? Also picture how you’ll feel once it’s complete—the inner relief and freedom you’ll experience can be enormously liberating. Accomplishing put-off tasks usually gives a person a great boost of confidence and energy. You can even use that energy to complete the NEXT task on your list!

STEP 8: DE-CLUTTER YOUR OFFICE

Create a beautiful and functional environment in your home or office, a place you love and that motivates you. If your office looks like a public storage space, I can guarantee that you’ll avoid working there. All the clutter will demand your attention and drain your energy. A clean and de-cluttered office will boost your energy to be more productive and procrastinate less.

STEP 9: TIME MANAGEMENT Good time management means that you maximize the daily return on the energy and mental effort you expend. Your time management skills will determine how many tasks you accomplish. If you need some guidance on time management, I’d recommend The ABC Method of Setting Priorities by Brian Tracy.

SUMMARY We’re all guilty of procrastination to some degree. Occasionally your tasks will seem too daunting—but if you can put aside your fear, fire before you aim, and manage your time wisely, you’ll start to see results. It’s an exciting feeling to have more items checked off than not on your task list, and you can use that energy to pave your way to a more productive and fearless tomorrow!

BELIEF MAGAZINE 6 II began cooking at age 9, studying a cookbook that dated from the 40's from my grandmother's library. From the moment of making my first meal - beef soup- which consisted of foamy, tough meat, hard pasta and unrecognizable vegetables, I have had an intense passion for cooking. Coming from an Italian background, everything seemed to revolve around food, family, friends and the dinner table. Even at a young age, the joy of having friends and family around the table gave me a feeling inside-like some sort of "rush". Stories were told, problems solved and friends were made around the table. I realized food brings people together regardless of your culture. After rewarding professional career as well as raising a family, I never quite felt like I was doing what my purpose was. I was in a car accident in 2010, where someone literally parked their car on the freeway in a rain storm, and caused an eight car accident, things in my life began to change. At the time of the accident, I was working in a job that, without a college education, I was earning a pretty high wage. But, I wasn't happy, I wasn't fufilled. I had to walk with a cane while I was healing. Having to take an hour to walk around my block made me realize how I had taken my mobility and health for granted. The job meant nothing, when I realized had been killed, life would have still gone on and the thought that my girls, Leann and Cassi, could have woken up to find out that their mother was dead made me realize it was time for a change..

It sounds so cliche but something clicked. We all have that time in life with something happenssometimes big sometimes small, when you realize how precious our lives are. Whether you are walking with God as you should or not, He still has you in His arms and is guiding your path.

19

I have realized He has always been with me throughout my life. I just didn't always see it. I grew up believing that my entire existence was a mistake. I had been led to believe that because of the decisions of others, I was unworthy, not good enough. I was raised by my grandmother and as much as she could love me, she could hate me. She had had a very hard time in life and found herself in a relationship that was not going anywhere. Her married lover gave her the promises that were never fulfilled and after 14 years of an on and off affair, she learned her daughter was pregnant with his baby. As a way to hold on to him, she agreed to adopt me and raise me. Although, I am grateful to her in many ways, I knew my family and never had to search for my birth mother, it also came with much heartache I found myself in relationships, friendships that were familiar to what I knew and continued the cycle. Mental and physical abuse is generational. It continues until someone finds the strength to stop it. We gravitate to what we know. We believe we are supposed to feel this way, not good enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough. We can grow up and move away from it, but, it is still in our soul, our heart, our minds. But God knows our pains, our insecurities. He wants us to find who we are, what He has intended for us. If we just listen. As I begin to realize this, I can look back and see that every tear, every pain, every relationship, friendship, job, has been a stepping stone to get me to where I am now in my life and with my career. But, it wasn't until I stepped back, took the time to be still, sought God, asked for His help and forgave that my path began to take a turn to where I was supposed to me. As a near sighted, little girl with an overbite and an older mom on the play yard, my confidence was null. The only time I felt confident was in the kitchen language.

My grandmother taught me very young how to cook and I loved the ability to create food, change recipes, I loved seeing the joy on faces when someone was enjoying a meal that I had created. As I got older, it was a way to be accepted. Everyone loves the girl that can cook! After the accident, it took me the entire summer and a couple hobby classes at a local culinary school, with an encouraging Chef instructor, to decide that I wanted to pursue a career in the Culinary World. It also provided me with the confidence to change careers and pursue my passion. More importantly, I have learned from all my experiences that God has a plan. It may not be anything that we can even comprehend. I never would have thought that I would be able to have a career doing something I love. But, it goes further than that. This career has given me a sense of fulfillment that we can only get when things are lined up correctly in our lives. When we finally say this life IS short, it is time to unload the baggage and God is there to be our porter, to take the heavy baggage from us, to free us up to do and be what we should be.
