Going further

We are one of the biggest and best youth organisations in the UK with around 49000 cadets in over 300 schools. CCF cadets are boys and girls aged between 13 – 19 who are looking for challenges that will improve their leadership skills. Fun and friendship is at the heart of the cadet experience and sharing adventure is a great way of making friends. The cadet experience provides exciting and challenging experiences that help young people develop and thrive. Cadets can choose a wide range of activities but everyone does the Army Proficiency Certificate (APC); you’ll develop leadership and team-working skills that will help you reach your full potential.

Ashford and Wye School CCF will meet one afternoon a week with the occasional weekend camp and CCF competitions. There are also optional cultural trips: these will be one per month during term time. Our activities are fun and challenging. From target shooting to rock climbing to mountain biking to archery to abseiling. Ashford and Wye School CCF will provide you with structure and support and teaches you discipline, respect and leadership - essential skills to help you succeed. Every summer there will be an annual camp. During these camps there will be an element of adventurous training focusing on leadership, courage, discipline and most importantly you will make new friends and have fun. There will also be opportunities to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award. You will learn new skills and discover talents you never knew you had.

The CCF & The Duke of Edinburgh Award The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award was first introduced in 1956. Since then, the DofE has been inspiring, guiding and supporting young people in their self-development and recognising their achievements. Employers, colleges and universities really value Duke of Edinburgh Awards and know what achievements an award holder has. In fact, the award is so popular that more than 17 million people internationally have taken part since its beginnings 60 years ago. All Cadets from Ashford and Wye Schools Combined Cadet Force will be given the opportunity to complete one or more of The Duke of Edinburgh Awards. The awards are as follows: Bronze 3-6 months (one hour per week) Silver 6-9 months (one hour per week) Gold 12-18 months (one hour per week) The CCF curriculum and the DofE award sections are very similar and can be run in conjunction with each other.
