4 HELLO! JUNE 2018
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR letterstohello@gmail.com A WELLNESS TREAT Oo lala! Just when I thought HELLO! could spring no more surprises on me, I was proven wrong once again. Your latest May 2018 ‘Wellness Special’ issue was just fabulous, from cover to cover. /M\\QVO \PM RM\ [M\\QVO 4Q[I 0IaLWV _I[ the coup of the decade! I also found features like Meet the Yoginis (featuring Mariela, Mrinalika and Deepika) and The Era of the Supermoms deeply inspiring in its celebration of a healthy lifestyle! Finally, the homage to the original style icon of all time, Audrey Hepburn, reminded us of her incredible talent and fashion legacy. We may not see []KP PQOP XQ\KPML OTIUW]Z QV \PM UW^QM[ IVaUWZM J]\ PMZ ÅTUWOZIXPa TMI^M[ I whole new generation rediscovering what the 50s Golden Age of Hollywood was all about. The issue had me wondering how you pack so much magic into HELLO!, month after month. Can’t wait for your next masterpiece! – Belinda Braganza, Mumbai
25 YEARS AFTER AUDREY HEPBURN HELLO! deserves to be commended for doing a feature on Audrey Hepburn in your May 2018 issue. It was worth commemorating the 25th death anniversary of the legendary actress and humanitarian activist. While much is talked and written about her superlative performances in enduring movies like Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady, little is said about her work with the UNICEF, specially for children which took her to places like Ethiopia and Sudan. Another highlight of the May issue was the article, Era of the Super Moms 3]LW[ \W \PM LaVIUQK []XMZ Å\ U]T\Q \I[SQVO UWU[ <PMa PI^M XZW^ML that motherhood doesn’t mean a full stop to their dreams and aspirations. <PM LMUIVL[ WN PWUM KIZMMZ [MTN KIZM social and family life, can be balanced and managed. SUMMER SURPRISE Seeing Lisa Haydon in her shimmery sheer dress on the covers of HELLO took me by surprise as I always associate HELLO! with royalty or mainstream actors and actresses. Lisa has long gone beyond those frameworks and is a jetsetting model, actress and society princess. When I noticed the issue was a ‘Wellness Special’ I did understand why Lisa made such a good cover story. She is in perfect shape and had a lot to [PW_ NWZ PMZ KWVÅLMVKM NZMMLWU IVL
bindaas attitude. Although her life pivots around her husband and toddler, she also represents a ‘way of life’ to those who want to make most of it, echoing the stark truth that you live only once. Apart from so much to gain from other wellness articles, I really liked the Five Types of Giving and their gradation as suggested by Vedanta. You feel light at heart and want to follow these recommendations as the act of giving always instills purity and lightness in our lives. Thanks to Shallu Jindal for sharing these. Though I am yet to imbibe much from other articles in this issue, one word consistently rings in my mind: Yoga, Yoga, Yoga... it can change you and your world! – Nikita Singla, Haryana

The Almighty blesses us all with the best teacher of the world, even before W]Z ÅZ[\ KZa · W]Z UW\PMZ .ZWU cuddling to scolding, a message is hidden in every act of the mother – how to love and how to mend. In line with Mother’s Day, I am sure Lisa Haydon’s interview in the cover story, (Livin’ La Vida Lisa), Farah Khan Ali, :IUWVI 6IZIVO IVL ;WVITQSI ;IPIa¼[ stories in The Era of the Super-Moms must PI^M QV[XQZML UIVa UWU[ \W JM <PM[M _WUMV PI^M J][\ML \PM IOM WTL Ua\P \PI\ motherhood is the enemy of beauty, and

ERRIKOS ANDREOU Errikos Andreou is possibly one of the most in-demand lensmen in tinseltown right now, and with good reason. His hawk-like vision on a set, ability to almost do a ‘live’ edit even while reviewing pictures on location, and his confident direction of his starry subjects, all earn him brownie points. By his own admission, realistic photography doesn’t allow constructive visual dreaming, so he prefers to work his magic with fashion and celebrity photography. Someone who believes in being 100 per cent in the ambience of the shoot, sharing the same sensory world surrounding his subjects, Errikos zooms right into the cosy rapport between our cover story stars, Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez. There is a real-time quality to his pictures that makes them poster-worthy. A true HELLO! exclusive!
ABHEET GIDWANI Abheet Gidwani’s creative appetite lies in noticing the ‘unobvious.’ Having started his career in 1990 with a travel company, his love for travel is evident through his works. He went on to study photography at the renowned Spaos School of Photography in Paris and is currently noted for his work with the crème da la crème of the Indian film industry. A perennial HELLO! contributor, the Mumbai native and self-taught photographer captured the gifted designer-muse duo – Payal Khandwala and Adhuna Bhabani in a sartorial journey that celebrates sustainability.

his Summer the heat is scorching to another level. It has already broken all previous temperature records in North India. While the world is struggling to GO GREEN, the global warming and rampant concretisation on our green pastures has taken a toll on us. Delhi is one of the most polluted cities in the world, and half the kids in this city are asthamatic. It is deplorable and a helpless situation for most! There is absolutely nothing that is being done to make our lives liveable. The citizens voices are being drowned by shallow political promsies made to vote banks. So here is a special issue dedicated to Friends… or what they call in social media lingo – BFFs. Our cover duo – Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez, who have shown much screen chemistry in the super-hit Kick a few years ago, are great friends off screen as _MTT <PMQZ¼[ Q[ I KWVVMK\QWV ÅTTML _Q\P PWVM[\a I[ _MTT I[ I [PIZML passion to give back to society through humanitarian endeavours. They are both denizens of a globalised B-town, knowing they compete with the best entertainment output from coast to coast, and hence are hard-wired to put their best out there. At the shoot, Jacqueline’s high-octane ‘hotness’ was a healthy counter to Salman’s ‘cool quotient!’ This has also turned out to be a ‘Wedding Special’ with so many celeb engagements and weddings happening one after the other over the last couple of months. While the royal wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle grabbed the maximum limelight, HELLO! has got an exclusive for the Richard Gere and Alejendra Silva nuptials. Back home, style diva Sonam Kapoor tied the knot to long time beau, Anand Ahuja, in a full on Bolly-style wedding. The country’s most eligible twins – Akash and Isha Ambani, got engaged, bringing down the curtains on an unending saga of “Who will be the lucky ones marrying them?” Yes it’s been a summer of power-couplings! While most of you must be enjoying your summer vacation in cooler chimes, do come back and catch up on your HELLO! stories – packed with exclusivity, glamour and excitement!

JUNE CALENDAR
Swan lake, New York
San Vino wine fight, Haro, Spain
ARTS AND CULTURE SAN VINO WINE FIGHT WHERE: Haro, Spain WHEN: 28 – 30 June The Batalla Del Vino originates from a dispute between Haro and the neighbouring town of Miranda De Ebro about who owned the range of mountains between them. The dispute has long been solved but the tradition of throwing wine has extended from locals to tourists coming together in friendship instead of feud to celebrate, drink, dance and to soak each other to the bone in wine. Tradition calls everyone to wear a white shirt and a red scarf but before you know it you’re dressed in pink against your will! By midday you can take your wine-stained bodies down to Plaza de la Paz and continue the festivities with bullfighting, food, drinks and of course, dance.
MURAL FESTIVAL WHERE: Montreal, QC WHEN: 7-17 June In the celebration of creativity and democratisation of urban art, MURAL transforms the SaintLaurent Boulevard into an open-air pedestrian art gallery. Artists from across the globe, as well as local talent, unite to paint murals live in front of your eyes which will be added to the legacy that MURAL has established since 2013. Come be a part of this spectacle! MUSIC BONAROO MUSIC FESTIVAL WHERE: Manchester, TN WHEN: 7-10 June Spread out across a 700-acre farm, the Bonaroo Music Festival brings to its audience an annual four-day bonanza of the best beats from rock, indie, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, pop and country music, to name
Mural Festival, Montreal
a few. You can expect multiple stages featuring live performances of this diverse array of music styles. THEATRE AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE – SWAN LAKE WHERE: Metropolitan Opera House, New York WHEN: 18-23 June Swan Lake is a timeless, quintessential ballet that tests its dancers and leaves its audience in awe no matter how many times you watch it. Ill-fated passion and forgiveness are the main themes for this piece that come out through the breathtaking choreography and the Renaissance-inspired set. Make sure to buy your tickets as this is definitely going to be a sell-out. MULTI GENRE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF ARTS AND IDEAS WHERE: New Haven, Connecticut WHEN: 9-23 June Culminating an extravaganza of performing arts, theatre, music and dance, the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, has been booming for over two decades. HELLO! WEDDING
On his ranch in upstate New York, on the shore of its beautiful lake, the couple said their vows. The Spanish ‘pretty woman’ (she’s certainly pretty and Richard’s head-over-heels for her, but the resemblance ends there) and the movie star said “yes” to a life together, “yes” to making each other happy every day, “yes” to respecting, forgiving, understanding and helping each other, “yes” to starting a new family together, to helping those most in need, and to making their commitment last beyond this life HELLO! *5.%

The brothers both sported the blue doeskin frockcoat of their old regiment the Blues and Royals, handmade by Dege & Skinner on Savile Row – the crowns on their epaulettes denoting the rank of major. Prince Harry displayed his pilot’s wings, which he gained while serving with the Army Air Corps, and his medal ribbons: the KCVO, Afghanistan with rosette, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Chatting to each other, the two men waved at the lucky invitees who had been given places inside the castle walls. With the biggest moment of his life less than half an hour away, Harry – who received the Queen’s permission to keep his beard, despite suggestions he might shave – looked relaxed. BEST FRIENDS FOREVER ‘Friendship is to be able to depend on someone for unconditional emotional support without judging each other... and to always have each other’s back no matter what’ - Amrita Kak Jhunjhunwala
ISHA RAJPAL FASHION DESIGNER, ROSEROOM STUDIO
What does friendship mean to you? “Friendship means a sense of compatibility between two individuals who discover their true self together and help each other grow in all walks of life.” Your childhood besties and your fondest memories with and around them? “I have no childhood besties as we learn to recognise who we truly are at later stages of life.” How do you like to spend time together when you catch up with friends? “Spending time with the empowering and elegant women in my life would ideally be a relaxed dinner playing dress up with them at the Roseroom Studio.” Your favourite holiday with friends? “My most recent excavation with my dearest friends to the Maldives for my friend, Rajat Singhi’s 40th celebration.” Your best friend and what he or she means to you? “I wouldn’t say I have a particular best friend but I have a few close friends that are close to my heart and I feel blessed to have them as a part of my life’s journey.” What has been your greatest contribution as a friend? “An ideal contribution would be through any interaction between me and my friend. If I could add value to my friend’s life, I would consider myself grateful.” Do you believe in BFFS (Best Friends Forever)? “Yes, I believe people can be BFFs if you’re true to yourself and to your friends. The ties of friendship can last beyond a lifetime.” If you had to set out on an adventure with your girlfriends, what would you choose? “An adventure on the Caribbean islands with my girlfriends would be a great idea. I would love a relaxed weekend where we do nothing but pamper ourselves.”
NAMRATA RAJPAL CREATIVE DIRECTOR AT ROSEROOM COUTURE, COFOUNDER L’OPULENCE, INTERIOR AND FURNITURE DESIGN COMPANY
What does friendship mean to you? “Friendship to me is all about honesty and giving each other strength – both at the emotional and mental level. It’s also about the ability to be yourself without the fear of judgement from the other. It’s a comfort feeling.” Your childhood besties and your fondest memories with and around them? “I make very few friends and my besties are very close to my heart. 1\¼[ LQNÅK]T\ \W VIUM \PMU ITT PMZM · J]\ ITT 1 KIV [Ia Q[ \PI\ MIKP one of them has had a special place in my life and we have made incredible memories along the way.” How do you like to spend time together when you catch up with friends? “A cosy close-knit dinner over wine and music where we end up chilling till the wee hours, is my ideal way of spending time and bonding with friends.” Your favourite holiday with friends…? “Is yet to happen.” Your best friend and what she means to you? “I have a few friends who complete me in some way or the other. Each brings out a different version of me when I’m with them.” What has been your greatest contribution as a friend? HELLO!
“I guess my friends would be better at answering that. But I feel I am a 2.00 am kind of friend who you will be there for you when you need me, no matter what.” Do you believe in BFFs? ¹1\¼[ ZIZM \W ÅVL NZQMVL[ TQSM \PI\ J]\ aM[ 1 LW JMTQM^M \PMZM IZM [WUM people whose friendships last a lifetime.” If you had to set out on an adventure with your girlfriends what would you choose? “I would love a road trip across the Californian Coast – from Los Angeles to San Francisco. AMRITA KAK JHUNJHUNWALA FORMER PLAYBACK SINGER, DESIGNER RUNNING THE LABEL ‘MY LITTLE J BY AMRITA’
What does friendship mean to you? “To be able to depend on someone for unconditional emotional support without judging each other and to always have each other’s back, no matter what.” Your childhood besties and your fondest memories with and around them? “I was in boarding at Mayo College, Ajmer, and my besties are actually from that time – Sagarika Ghatge and Ritika Shahabadi Prasad, were a year junior to me. However, as things went, I started to share a truly special bond with them. Both are married and settled in Mumbai and I really miss chilling with them. We’ve had some amazing times together in school and after that, when we were in college in Mumbai. We’ve seen each other grow and we all know each other’s shortcomings but have never been judgmental. We’ve partied together, gone through ups and downs together and it’s been a beautiful journey so far. Sagarika and I even travelled together representing our school at inter-school dance competitions.” How do you like to spend time together when you catch up with friends? “When it comes to friends, honestly the place really doesn’t matter. It’s more about being together. It could be going out for a fun dinner or even chilling at home and chatting. Our conversations are neverending.” Your favourite holiday with friends? “There have been quite a few but recently we did Gstaad with the kids. There were quite a few of us and it was an absolute blast. It was amazing as the kids had a blast together and so did we all.” Your best friend and what he or she means to you? “Sagarika and Ritika are my go-to people. Sagarika has this tendency of absconding every now and then (smiles) but then these two are family and we don’t have anything to prove to each other. It’s amazing how we know what the other one is thinking without having to spell things out. We share a beautiful understanding which you seldom come across these days. I am so grateful that I have them in my life.” What has been your greatest contribution as a friend? “I think I’ve been there to support my friends emotionally whenever they’ve needed me.” Do you believe in BFFs? “Yes I totally believe in BFFs and I am grateful I have mine.” If you had to set out on an adventure with your girlfriends, what would you choose? “I would love to go on a holiday with Sagarika and Ritika. We have made some twenty thousand plans and they haven’t worked out because all three of us are super lazy in our own ways. I so wish we could do a holiday together at some point of time – could be a beach or honestly anywhere, would be super fun.”

iding close on the success of their Modern R Indian Art auction earlier this year and after recently having conducted their Rare Books on Hindoostan auction in May, 2018, auction house AstaGuru is geared to present an extension within their ‘Contemporary’ art segment with a ‘South East Asian Contemporary Art’ auction. Raring to go ahead with this refreshing wave of contemporary artists, AstaGuru’s art specialists Sunny Chandiramani and Sneha Gautam tell us the pressing importance of contemporary art. Sunny states, “Today’s contemporary artists need to be nurtured, considering these very artists will be masters tomorrow.” Sneha further elaborates by saying, “Contemporary art is not just art, it’s a philosophy of modern society, and chronicles our current reality.” After having conducted numerous successful contemporary Indian art auctions in the past, the auction house is now reaching out to new horizons by including works by artists based all over South East Asia, to name a few – Kim Seola, Shahabuddin Ahmed and Senaka Senanayake, who is one of Sri Lanka’s most HELLO!
eminent artists and was recently represented by a major international gallery durring Art New York 2018 which took place in May. For instance, TV Santhosh’s installation titled Houndingdown, which is his most important work till date, will be a part of this auction. Santhosh’s narrative has always been intertwined with the notion of violence, its repercussions and its very prevalent reality in the present, and therefore through this installlation he highlights how man, in the grasp of vengeance, forgoes the very essence of humanity. His distinctive stylistic treatment and art philosophy makes Santhosh’s works recognizable and relevant without being predictable. This particular work was also displayed at the Royal Academy of Arts during ‘A multi-disciplinary season of cutting-edge visual culture exhibition’
in the year 2009. The work by Anju Dodiya titled Cloud Hunter from the year 2005, depicts a couple with the man aiming an arrow towards the sky; the medium for this work is unusual as the innovative artist executes this work on a mattress. The oil-on-canvas work by Surendran Nair titled Madanika/Dunyazade (Cuckoonebulopolis) merges the artists’ work ergonomics. The artist projects his protagonist, engulfed by the aura of theatre with a meditative stance; it articulates the work a stage actor undertakes in order to prepare for a role and a performance. The six-foot work establishes its presence with a certain element of drama and silent contemplation. Did you take very strong steps to regain your super-toned body after your baby girl arrived? Can you share, for new moms, what the most critical measures were? “Actually no… it took me over a year to drop the baby weight. I took my time with it – I enjoyed being pregnant, largely because I was told I’d never be able to have children. I was bedridden for weeks and _MMS[ IN\MZ PI^QVO 3ZQ[PVI [W 1 KW]TLV¼\ M`MZKQ[M I\ ÅZ[\ 1 IK\]ITTa didn’t put a lot of pressure on myself to lose the weight quickly, I decided it was going to come off when it was time for it to. I didn’t want any added stress on top of what comes naturally from being a new mother. I didn’t want to do anything too drastic with my diet either because I didn’t want Krishna to miss out on any nutrients from nursing. When you let yourself off the hook, and don’t give yourself such strict deadlines, I think you naturally shift back into working out and eating better more wholeheartedly.” Many mothers say time is too short to dedicate to selfcare, be it paying attention to one’s diet, or making time to exercise. What is your solution to this time-management issue, given you are a working mom too? “Time management is essential for any busy Mom, but my attitude is not such that I go about trying to solve every obstacle myself. Rather, I prioritize what I can manage and what will keep me functioning at my optimum self. Working out is important to me, especially because 1 MI\ NWZ I TQ^QVO [W 1 \Za \W [KPML]TM \PI\ ÅZ[\ \PQVO QV \PM UWZVQVO after I’ve dropped my daughter off at school. Not only is it good for bonding with family, but it’s usually much healthier and more affordable than what you’d get eating out in restaurants. I’m also fortunate to have help when I need it, so I think knowing when to delegate is important too. The reality is no one can do it all. And I think there’s grace in being able to ask for help when you need it.” How do the 40s change one’s metabolism? Have you introduced major lifestyle changes post 40? “I think metabolism slows down for everyone in their 40s. One of the best additions to my life recently has been Pilates. It has completely transformed the shape of my body – I have lift and muscle tone where I haven’t had any before, and I feel stronger overall. I also love to box, I think it’s just as great a mental workout as it is physical. As for diet,

We cannot buy indiscriminate fast fashion without thinking about the impact it has on our planet. We must buy less but buy better. We must repeat and reuse, we must care about what we put on our bodies and in our wardrobes. Buying less is the only way to be truly sustainable.” Adhuna Bhabani: “If our planet is to survive, sustainability is the key to everything we do... including what we wear.” How do you personally recycle and reuse? Cheap knock-offs are made at the expense of cheaper human labour in factories, some of which don’t meet even basic safety requirements. If the cost of all our raw materials have gone up over the years, how can our t-shirts keep getting cheaper? Somewhere, someone is being compromised, and it’s the quality of the clothes and the quality of the lives of the people that make them. We must rethink what we are really supporting in the name of fast fashion. Because we are all responsible for the consequences.” Adhuna: “Fast fashion is fun. While I was growing up, I would change my hair almost as often as my clothes, and this kind of fashion was affordable and fun. However, I am not very sure about how ethical practices relating to fast fashion are; working conditions in factories where these garments are produced and materials that are sourced for creating the same may not always be sustainably viable. Up-cycling your own wardrobe may be a better way go.”
Adhuna and Payal sport twin-like in silk shirts and handwoven silk bootleg trousers. Adhuna completes her look with a brass saffron neckpiece and a brass ring from Tachi with pointed-toe satin boots. Payal pairs her ensemble with a multi-layered necklace from her own collection HELLO!
HELLO! DESIGNER–MUSE How can everyone include sustainable fashion into their lives? Payal: “It’s quite simple. Question what you buy, question why you buy it, look at the philosophies of the brands you buy from and buy less. Buy better quality clothes that will last you longer. Care about your personal style more than you care about fashion and you will have already won half the battle.” Adhuna: “By being conscious and aware about what you are buying and who is making their clothes. There are so many choices out there.” Tell us about the garments created today… Payal: “For the most part, I think garments are made too quickly, fashion cycles are short and this should change. We must return to carefully crafted clothes and change how people think about dressing. We cannot sell this idea that every time we step out we must wear something new. We must reintroduce the idea that clothes are an extension of our personalities and can be integral, long lasting and comforting, not just something that is topical and dispensable. Clothes must be accessible but also special. They must maximise your personality and they could certainly do with being less homogenous.” As a mindful muse, what makes these garments – both special, and a necessity? Adhuna: “I trust Payal, her clothes are always made in beautiful colours and natural fabrics. This is a choice I make therefore, a necessity for me.” Which are your most timeless possessions? Payal: “All the textiles I’ve collected over the years, sarees, brocades, handwoven silks that I know cannot be replicated now are my most treasured because I know those artisans are long gone. But I have many other rather [QUXTM _IZLZWJM [\IXTM[ TQSM RMIV[ I _MTT Å\\ML [PQZ\ Ua NI^W]ZQ\M XITIbbW pants and a pair of sandals. Things that have been in my closet for years that are timeless and that I still wear today even though I’ve had some of them for more than a decade.” Adhuna: “If I’m not wearing Payal, then my jeans and a t-shirt are my ‘timeless’ and my ‘go to’ fashion possessions along with a comfortable pair of Adidas classic runners!” Which fashionable trend are you looking forward to embracing this season? Payal: “To not embrace any trends. And I hope this is not a trend!” Adhuna: “I don’t really follow trends. I choose clothes in fabrics and colours that I like and I attempt to wear what I feel suits me and what I feel comfortable in.” Do you believe sustainable ‘beauty’ will follow suit? Payal: “I hope so. I think we cannot be irresponsible in any of the choices we make, what we eat, how we live, what we wear... it’s part of a larger eco system that we must address if we are to leave this planet a better place for our children.” Adhuna: “Let’s hope so!” Which beauty trend will you be embracing this summer? Payal: “I’m going to try and drink more water and I’m not sure this counts, but I don’t have any beauty rituals as such, except getting lots of sleep!” Adhuna: “Like I said, I don’t really ‘follow trends.’ I will probably experiment with my hair... that’s how I usually update/up cycle my look. You wear your hair every day so by updating your cut or colour is a great way to stay on trend.” How do you balance your personal (and holistic) wellness? Payal: “I like to spend time with my family, I like to laugh a lot, I like to XTIa Ua XQIVW IVL TW^M Ua [TMMX 1 _WZS PIZL J]\ Q\ LWM[V¼\ LMÅVM UM IVL 1 KMZ\IQVTa LWV¼\ \ISM Ua[MTN \WW [MZQW][Ta 1 ÅVL \PM MOW KIV JM I OZMI\ XWQV\ of stress.” Adhuna: “Through exercise, I try to work out in some way or another, hiking, playing a sport, and generally being active. Staying active is what works for me, while making sure I keep it varied and fun.” What’s next? Payal: “I hope that we can continue to offer solutions to women that slow fashion just a bit, focus on personal style and empower the women that buy them. While we do that, if we can support some of our artisans and do it in a way that makes consumers want to buy conscious clothing then I’m glad to be part of this movement in an albiet small important way.” Adhuna: “To focus on sustainability and not be sucked into more consumerism!”
Adhuna gives a twist on power dressing in a hand-woven brocade jacket and trouser with an ivory silk shirt from Payal’s latest collection, paired with metallic sliders and a statement brass circle neck piece from Tahi HELLO! *5.%

He found his passion for East-Asian food and moved to Tokyo to pursue his interest in Japanese cooking. Over eight years, he mastered this art and is implementing it at Okura, amongst others. Previously catering to Japanese diplomats at the Japanese Embassy in Delhi, his stellar record also has him listed as the only Indian chef to be honoured by the Government of India for promoting Japanese cuisine with his own twist, in India. ANTRA MOTIWALA & MOHIT MARWAH ANIL KAPOOR’S NEPHEW WED TINA AMBANI’S NIECE OVER SUMPTOUS NUPTIALS OFF THE SHORES OF RAS ALKHAIMAH. THE CELEBRATIONS CULMINATED A SEVEN-YEAR ROMANCE OF THE BELOVED DUO AND WAS ATTENDED BY THE WHO’S WHO FROM ACROSS THE NATION. A HELLO! EXCLUSIVE
THE ROMANCE… “Sonam (Kapoor) is a dear and childhood friend of mine. I knew Mohit as her hot brother! (laughs) We were introduced through common friends and went on to date for about seven years. It was a long courtship and after our parents met to decide about the wedding, we started planning immediately as we didn’t have a lot of time before the nuptials. He surprised me with a beautiful and romantic proposal, on one of our reconnaissance trips for the wedding to Ras Al Khaimah, at the most gorgeous Ritz Al Wadi desert property. We were under a blanket, having a romantic candle-lit dinner in the desert.”
THE FESTIVITIES… “We wanted our celebrations to be intimate – well, as intimate as was possible, considering both our huge families! Both our siblings had destination weddings and relatively larger ones that were great fun – so we wanted the same ‘vibe’ for ours but just closer knit. We also wanted a location that was accessible and enjoyed good weather – and of course, a hotel that could understand and adapt to an Indian wedding. We looked at Dubai and Bahrain before selecting Ras Al Khaimah, which is barely an hour’s drive from Dubai. The Waldrof Ras Al Khaimah was the perfect choice, it has a beautiful beach, plenty rooms and had already conducted a number of Indian weddings – but had no banquet hall, so we built an enormous tent of about 16,000 square feet on the beach for all our evening parties. For the mehendi, we had a lovely Havana haven \PMUM · \ZWXQKIT XITU TMI^M[ XQVS ÆIUQVOWM[ HELLO!

THE GUEST LIST…
“We travelled to Italy for our honeymoon… Tuscany, Florence, Milan… and ended the trip with Malta. It was an amazing experience… we rented a car and drove around the beautiful landscapes of Italy, ate a lot of delicious pasta and gelato – and essentially just truly embraced the la dolce vita H philosophy for that duration of time!”
“On Mohit’s mother’s side of the family are all of the Kapoor family. Rhea (Kapoor) and I grew up together and have tons of common friends. Karan Johar is also a close friend. My family included Tina and Anil Ambani along with the Bachchans (Jaya aunty, Abhishek and Shweta) who are also very close family friends. The son of the crown prince of Rak city also came to give us his blessings. ”
“Karan (Johar) performing on stage with Arjun (Kapoor) and Badshah – it was akin to a karaoke and dance night!” (laughs). My varmala was also very special, we had it on the beach and there was a truly mystical aura to it – it was a magical moment for both of us. The fact that everyone just got along together so well and that every celebrity guest had their guard down and was just having the best time, was magical.”
