It is such enriching yet not simple task that Editorial Claretiana assumes with joy and dedication, insisting in both good times and bad times for the Word of God, our priests and of all the Latin-American people, to be incarnated and multiplied in each and every one of our publications. Our books have been developing along the years ‘with one ear in the Gospel and the other in the people’. In this way, it tries to reflect a pastoral and simple style which, faithful to the Church’s mission, is inserted in the life of men and women of our time. Currently we own 7 evangelization centres and we supply to the vast majority of commercial centres which spread the Word of God; it’s a privilege for us to be able to reach all America through our commercial representatives. One of our biggest challenges is the merging of all the publishing houses into Claret Publishing Group, which we have been developing as a joint project since 2011. The cities where the Claret Publishing Group is present are Bangalore, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Chennai, Colombo, Dar es Salaam, Lagos, Madrid, Macau, Manila, Owerri, São Paulo, Warsaw, Yaoundè.

Consecrated life LUIS CASALÁ, SM

Consecrated life is to be a sign of faith, hope and charity. We are presenting this selection of studies and reflections, together with Marianist priest Luis Casalá. This selection will facilitate a more joyful, mystic and prophetic religious life if attention is paid to its continuous development. On the preface, Msgr. Juan José Chaparro, Bishop of Bariloche (Argentina) shares: ‘These books are lavish on life in order to obtain more Life. What my brother and friend is giving us here is the rumination of that lived, his personal testimony, his years of listening and interpellating religious life; accompanying novices, religious, meetings and retreats. And the promise of that to be lived.’

BACK COVER/ REVIEW It currently looks as if Consecrated Life has stopped being ‘useful’ to God. Or at least in the shape it so strongly cherishes. Moreover, it is not only a few who behave as if Religious Life would no longer be Life. Is there a future for it? The ancient recipes have exhausted and the ‘status quo’ has become unfeasible. Now, should it be agonising, it would be time to dare and imagine another Religious Life, radically different to that disappearing. This is what the author explains and describes in a thoughtful selection of articles. These will provide the consecrated with lights to go back to their path and to feed on real faith in Jesus Christ, making a renewed mystical experience possible and alluring.

Fidelity through time CONSECRATED LIFE

Theological notes on the use of the concept in religious women’s life

MERCEDES NAVARRO PUERTO, MC Collection: Awaken the world ‘Every year I look back in time, trying to see myself throughout my history. On this occasion, the perception of temporariness was more acute, and that question which rushes into me in good and bad times, every now and then, started to resound in me in a different way: Why am I still here?’ (Mercedes Navarro Puerto). RIGHTS AVAILABLE Title: Fidelity through time. BACK COVER/ REVIEW In that way, from her own religious experience, Mercedes Navarro Puerto, invite us to reflect upon the value of fidelity, to crumble down the meaning that has been ill-treated by time and patriarchal culture, and subjected to a synonym that does not reflect its genuine semantics. It’s the whole history of a term what the author reconstructs in its real meaning, for it to ‘become a sign, a shining reference and a bearer of hope. ‘Fidelity requires audacity, bravery, risk and its uncertainty, paradox of hesitation…’ in order to bring us closer, in any aspect of life, to a fidelity that introduces the eternity of time.

Anawim

Catechesis for people with intellectual disabilities

CATECHESIS

MARCELA P. ANDRINO The word anawim means ‘poor’, he who places all his trust in God because he knows He is enough to survive. In the Old Testament, God always helps the anawim, the same who later Jesus will pronounce: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

BACK COVER/ REVIEW RIGHTS AVAILABLE Title: Anawim Catechesis for people with intellectual disabilities Author: Marcela P. Andrino Pages: 112 Size: 18 x 26 cm Price: 15.10 USD ISBN: 978-950-512-880-8 SKU Code: 9505128808

To be a witness of his love

Topics: Religious formation. Disabilities. Sacraments of in itiation.

People who suffer from intellectual disabilities sometimes experience the misunderstanding of others. This catechesis will allow us to put ourselves in their place. We will learn to embrace their fragility and to acquire the necessary tools to convey, in an accurate and tailored way, everything that is needed for the preparation of the Reconciliation and for their First Communion; but most of all to discover the nearness of God. Each and every session will help us build the right conditions to get to know each child and to learn from them. ‘It is wonderful to see the catechesis’ results after a year of sharing the experiences and sessions with the Word of God. As a priest, I am a witness of the religious sensitivity and the growth in faith of the children with intellectual disabilities who, recognising their sins, went to the Reconciliation Sacrament with their drawings (penance activity) repenting what they had done wrong. And it was delightful to discover how God’s Mercy, of which our dear Pope Francis so highly speaks of, is spilled with simplicity on the youngest ones’ (Msgr Juan Carlos Ares, Auxiliary Bishop of Archdioceses of Buenos Aires, Argentina).

MARCELA P. ANDRINO is a teacher who also has a Bachelor Degree in Psychopedagogy. She studied at Mary Help of Christians Institute where she obtained her Catechetical Diploma and subsequently specialized in catechesis for people with disabilities. She is currently teaching catechesis at Our Lady of Balvanera (Buenos Aires, Argentina) as well as teaching children in hospital who are going through oncology treatment and diverse pathologies, at hospital school ‘Dr Ricardo Gutiérrez’. Her book is the fruit of her years of work dedicated to transmitting Jesus Gospel to our dearest brothers and sisters.

First Announcement Kerygmatic sessions to unfold into the gift of God

CATECHESIS

CARLOS TAZZIOLI – ALBERTO DAGORRET – BEATRIZ CASIELLO ‘The “real First Announcement” is in the act of grace that occurs in the encounter: God passionately goes to the encounter of mankind, talks to their heart and, during this dialogue, mankind responds: adhere or not.’ Once ignited in us, this desire drives us to be part of the community and to transmit the Good News; it hastens us to the mission. But... Where to start?

Meetings. Commun ity. Evangelization. Kerigma.

BACK COVER/ REVIEW Due to the changes that have been happening in the world and a Church that could not keep pace with the circumstances, we need, first, to retrace the path in order to start a new one. F. Carlos Tazzioli, F. Alberto Dagorret and Sr. Beatriz Casiello teamed up to present the fruit of their experience in a marginalized parish from the Dioceses of Concordia (Argentina). Their proposal is to go back to ‘the source’, untangling together in the shape of community sessions and under the Holy Spirit’s enlightenment, what the living and effective Word of God says to each one of us. ‘The encounter with the Word of God shared in ecclesiastic communion, illuminating life and reorganising it, according to God, are the theological fundamentals that support this experience. Perhaps, it may help to uncover a new paradigm for today’s catechesis. I am happy and grateful to present this proposal and feeling identify with its authors, I join in the endorsement of this practice at the top of my voice’ (Msgr Héctor Cardelli, Bishop of San Nicolás, Argentina).

TEKORA project CATECHESIS

Religious education in schools

An itinerary of religious education which invites us to live in harmony with the Creator. It is inspired in LAUDATO SI, the encyclical letter which Pope Francis dedicated to the environment and ecolog y.

BACK COVER/ REVIEW This project, inspired in Praise be to you, my Lord, Pope Francis’ ‘green encyclical letter’, addresses religious education in the classroom from a different place. TEKORA is the looking after of the earth with our body, the water with our blood, the air with our breath, the fire with our spirit according to the Guaraní people. In it resounds all the voices of the native peoples, unreachable as the wind, reminding us the duty of honouring life in all its forms and protecting God’s dream for the Earth. TEKORA project transforms the classroom in an exploratory environment where the teacher and students rediscover together the gift of the creation, learn to recognise in a new way the presence of God in everything that exists, and to look after and being responsible for themselves, their brothers and sisters and nature, from a very young age. It focuses on comprehending the world as ‘the sacrament of communion’ and it announces that Jesus, with his Easter, makes everything new.

SPIRITUALITY

Five minutes of Blessed Oscar Romero EZEQUIEL FERNÁNDEZ Collection: Spirituality Five minutes of Blessed Oscar Romero gathers vital material to learn about the essential thinking of the Martyr Bishop of El Salvador. Romero’s phrases have been compiled under different titles and topics that group sayings and reflections from an inserted spirituality in the option for the poor. Topics: Martyrdom. Marginalization. Daily thoughts. Pastors. Holiness.

BACK COVER/ REVIEW ‘The martyrdom, the being Church, the preference for the marginalized, the combination action-prayer are topics which Romero considered as pillars in Latin America in the seventies’ context. These words are still interpellations that affect us and they allow us to open a spiritual perspective or deepen it, considering the Other who we don’t usually consider as close to us’ (Ezequiel Fernández). ‘In that beautiful Central American country, bathed by the Pacific Ocean, Our Lord granted his Church a jealous Bishop, who loving God and serving his brothers and sisters, became an image of Christ the Good Shepherd. In times of difficult coexistence, Monsignor Romero knew how to lead, defend and protect his flock, remaining true to the Gospel and in communion with the whole Church. His ministry was distinguished by his especial attention to the most poor and marginalized. And in the time of his death, while celebrating the Holy Sacrifice of love and reconciliation, he received the grace to identify fully with He who gave his life for his sheep’ (Letter of His Holiness Pope Francis to Msgr Escobar Alas, archbishop of San Salvador).

EZEQUIEL FERNÁNDEZ, claretian missionary, fulfils his pastoral work in Cordoba’s community, Argentina. He has recently been ordained deacon; his words become an echo of this experience: ‘The “cloud of witnesses” that resounded through the litanies, is giving me the cue to channel what I aim to become my service amongst the People. Not in vain did I choose Msgr Romero, Alberto Hurtado or Charles de Foucauld for this cloud; I believe that on each name there is a story that inspires my pilgrimage...’

BACK COVER/ REVIEW ‘The great mystic Teresa did not play with phrases. She let Who lived in her speak for her, as definitively spoken to us, as we Christian confess, by the lips of a man who resembles us, Jesus of Nazareth’ (F. Maximiliano Herráiz, ocd). ‘These phrases, gleaned from her writings, will give us every day the freshness of her thoughts. Inviting and current, they touch the coordinates of our own lives. They allow us to reach aspects of her search, her dreams and her difficulties. Supported on who has given meaning to her existence, she approaches God with the confidence of the Samaritan, the Canaanite woman, and the brave love of Martha... After the jubilee celebration commemorating the 500th Anniversary of her birth, let Teresa be a friendly hand that brings us closer to Jesus, -‘our Goodness’ and ‘our Light’-(...)’ (Sr. Analuisa Cusán, ocd).

We are called to trust A path to heal self-sufficiency

SPIRITUALITY

LEONARDO DI CARLO Collection: Dalmanutá The contemporary man is afraid of asking for help, afraid of acknowledging his weaknesses, afraid of showing his limits. All in all, he is losing his notion of being human that, as such, cannot fulfil his own needs and requires the help of others and the Other, in capital letters, that is God.

Topics: Self-sufficiency. Personal itinerary. Confidence. Prayer. Reflection.

BACK COVER/ REVIEW We are acquiring the habit of believing that we can live without anyone’s help. We cannot trust ourselves to God’s love and this absence guides us to a cul-de-sac, burdening us with worries. F. Leonardo will teach us how to heal the wounds that self-sufficiency brings along, as well as offering us prayers and guidelines to work individually in order to overcome it. ‘In this small book, the first one I adventure in sharing with you, I will try to become your road partner in order to look for Christian solutions once faced with these realities, which make men’s soul and body fall ill. I have endeavoured to look for the spiritual roots of self-sufficient illnesses: anxiety disorders, depression, panic attacks, gastritis, dermatopathy, among others. Our body screams through our illnesses the pain of the deepest wounds’ (Leonardo Di Carlo).

LEONARDO DI CARLO, born in Mendoza (Argentina), is a surgeon (National University of Córdoba, 2005) and priest from Mendoza’s diocese, ordained on 17th March 2012. BACK COVER/ REVIEW Saint Ignatius wrote Spiritual Exercises (SE) which were aimed to be carried out in thirty days, but from the beginning he explained that, due to different reasons, not everyone can complete them. These ignatian exercises were thought for busy people who after returning from their work, they wanted to ‘take a break in God’. They are offered under the different types of praying: vocal, mental, acceptance, deliverance, penance and repetition, always focusing in the Word of God. Here they are accessible for all of those who would like to deepen the encounter with the Lord, taking as motivation the last five petitions from the old Prayer Soul of Christ; which Saint Ignatius chose as the opening for his book.

Topics: Novena. Devotion. Prayer. Fam ily. Separation. Crisis.

BACK COVER/ REVIEW The family has suffered considerable changes during this century. For different reasons, irreparable ruptures are produced and the family is left wounded. The Church has to accompany the most fragile of its sons in a patient and merciful way. (Cf. Relatio Syondi, 25). Therefore, as committed Christians we should attend, listen and help every family or person who is going through difficulties, whether or not they are believers; be there for them, pray for them and accompany them from our love. This novena invites us to pray for the families in crisis, those who are going through separations, those who are living a new union; and to trust them with the protection and loving care of Saint Mary and Saint Joseph. ‘[…] the awareness has truly grown that it is necessary to have a fraternal and attentive welcome, in love and in truth, towards the baptized who have established a new relationship of cohabitation after the failure of the marital sacrament; in fact, these people are by no means excommunicated — they are not excommunicated! — and they should absolutely not be treated as such: they are still part of the Church.” (Pope Francis, General Audience, August 5th, 2015)

SONIA ARÉVALO, a mother of three, has obtained her degrees in Systems Analyst and Bachelor in Food Technology. The Age of the Butterfly SPIRITUALITY

Spirituality in chrysalis process

SIMÓN PEDRO ARNOLD, OSB Collection: Our burning heart ‘The new paradigms, such as Postmodernity, are the starting point for reflection, they are not the finishing point. Many surprises are still awaiting for us, and it would be naïve to stop here as it would be to hold on to the premodern past.

Topics: Spirituality. Symbolic theology. New paradigms. Postmodern ism. Believer. Relationsh ip faith / culture.

In some way, it is not so much about a discussion between faith and new consciences, but faith’s inherent reflection lived in this new reality. What does it mean and what will it mean to be a believer from now on? How to babble and implement this new language in the core of a new worldview, with its concrete consequences?’ (Simón Pedro Arnold).

BACK COVER/ REVIEW The world we live in nowadays is very different to the one from centuries ago. The current epochal change is a reality that affects everything, and this includes the Church itself and every disciple. It is time to recognise the signs of our time in order to live and adapt to them; and, in this way, grow in following Jesus to live our faith in a renewed way. As the author says: ‘I propose an intuitive encounter, from a spiritual theology, to today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. As at the beginning of Christianism, when we had to transplant our Jewish roots in a Hellenistic world, in order to achieve a new fecundation, it’s our job to forge.

SIMÓN PEDRO ARNOLD was born in Belgium. Being a Benedictine, he founded and became a member of the Resurrection Monastery (Chucuito, Perú). He was ordained priest in 1981. He studied music, and he obtained a PhD in Communication as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology. He has been working as a professor and communicator for many years, in addition to being prior and novices’ teacher in the monasteries where he has lived. He has published several books, both in French and in Spanish, as well as released liturgical and religious music records.

VÍCTOR MANUEL FERNÁNDEZ Collection: Our heart was burning ‘In Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis asked us to be on ‘a permanent state of mission’ (EG 25), and demanded us to be ‘audacious and creative’ (EG 33). He also told us that in order to defeat the comfort that detains us, is important to ‘stop and rekindle some motivations (EG 263)’ ( Víctor Manuel Fernández).

BACK COVER/ REVIEW To be Christians is to be bearers of a treasure that is joyful to transmit. However, many times we feel the cracks in our jars of clay and we feel disheartened. We need encouragement. It is now that we are motivated to assume the missionary commitment and to live it with joy, profoundness and enjoyment. These meditations by Víctor Manuel Fernández have great value as they bring us closer to the heart of Aparecida’s message. In this renewed edition, these are completed by presenting, as well, the fundamental nucleus of Pope Francis’ teaching, so clearly expressed in Evangelii Gaudium.

Through examples of biblical characters and famous contemporary people, with a dynamic and uncomplicated style typical in him, he manages to transmit the zealous message of faith.

If we do not let God change our way of thinking, we will never change our way of living. The Bible can help us, because, in fact, is the best book on personal growth from all times. History, from start to end, provides us with testimonies of men and women who have proven with their lives that whenever we think in an adequate way, whenever we fight for our dreams, no matter where we start, we can succeed in life. Embellished with films, stories and personal anecdotes; this book will try to reach your heart and focus on this truth: Yes you can, yes you have, yes you are. And the most important and original fact – the very author will be a personal witness of this.

BACK COVER/ REVIEW Children reach that stage where, leaving childhood behind, they start questioning who they really are. That path affects the family as a whole. Parents have to face the new challenge of accompanying and guiding their children who swing between rebelliousness and the need of protection. F. Javier presents in the shape of a story, and in the context of a family –whether real or not -, the conflicts, encounters, achievements and difficulties that adolescents undergo. It is narrated in the first person by the mom, expressing her own concerns as well as her husband’s, leaving at the end of each story a question to reflect and discover how to respond in similar situations. ‘Lately I have been living intense moments when encountering with several families, and some of them are parents of adolescents. This has shown me homes where people are still working with faith and love for everyone’s best interest, even if there is the fear of mistakes and failures. These, instead of discouraging, are the source for new attempts, as those which I propose in my writings’ (Javier Fernández).

JAVIER FERNÁNDEZ, CMF, is a claretian missionary priest who, from his experience as spiritual companion for marriages and families, has written several books on personal growth. He wants for people to see their own experiences reflected and to understand these from that point of view. These stories to tell, build and believe try to take advantage of the innocence of the heart to present them with Jesus and God Father. On a biblical level, the book offers new interpretations of the Word of God, so as not to simply repeat the story of the Gospel and to lead to a fundamentalist reading of it, but to offer a simple presentation of God’s message - specially of the New Testament - accordingly with a respectful reading of the texts and contexts which joins life and faith. On a didactic level, they are entertaining stories which children will want to hear over and over again; which will awake their most noble feelings and will open their hearts to the Word of God, like a flower opens to the warmth of the sun.

To experience the fondness of Jesus and the values in the Gospel

These books want to encourage action and celebration by proposing the interaction with the characters, stickers, games and activities; as well as to offer the assimilation of the message of each story from a community point of view.

REVIEW ‘Jesus we are here to ask you to change our heart so we can do good. With Jesus, we can make everyday miracles. Making the sad smile is miracle. Accompanying a grandfather who is alone is a miracle. Feeding the hungry is a miracle. Every miracle presupposes an act of love. This act of love can be done with Jesus’ (Cardinal J. M. Bergoglio -Pope Francis-, Children’s archdiocesan Mass, 2011). Iván is the main character of this story. His name, which comes from the Hebrew, means ‘God is merciful’. Every time, him and his friends will find themselves facing an event, having to decide what to do, and resolving it with an act of love: the work of mercy. Short and simple stories, with illustrations full of warmth and details to explore, with a special twist for the youngest children.

Génesis 3

My first Bible is an enriching and entertaining way to get closer to God and to learn his teachings for the rest of our lives.

— Yo

v oY a v e n c e r a c u a l q u i e r a que venga a luchar conmigo.

Mateo 27; Marcos 15; Lucas 23; Juan 18

To know and to experience the values in the Bible

33

Mateo 14; Marcos 6; Lucas 9; Juan 6
